Hey Arrows! It is Election Day in America, where we so fortunate to be able to elect our own president. But we are also a country divided. Polls reflect that 49% of American citizens support President Obama and 49% support Governor Romney. So I thought it might be good to review a book about Abraham Lincoln—a president who was elected in a time with a very divided nation—between those who wanted to abolish slavery, and those whose economic livelihood depended upon it. Today’s book is Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by Lincoln scholar, James L. Swanson.

The story profiles the last evening of President Lincoln’s life and the plot by John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices to assassinate the president. With tons of inside information taken from diaries and trial transcripts, Swanson does a great job of telling the story of what went through Booth’s head befor

e, during, and after he entered Ford’s Theatre. Beginning on the day of Lincoln’s inauguration, when Booth is photographed looking down upon the stage where President Lincoln is giving his inaugural address, we get a glimpse of the man who’s anger and resentment boiled over to hatred and murder. Chasing Lincoln’s Killer reads like a modern day murder mystery, yet it is very well-researched. So on this election day in America, I urge you to be informed and read a good book, and I will see you next Tuesday!
