Rate this book
Does this sound familiar to you; every time you take a step forward you also take two steps backward? It’s tough I know; I’ve been there before.

I also know what it takes to create the life you want to live.

For most of my 20’s I struggled with a gambling addiction that led to severe depression and serious financial debt. I wanted to give up so many times, but I didn’t. In the end, I turned my life around, got out of debt, and became an entrepreneur in the process.

The experience taught me how to level up my life, and I can show you how.

Do you know why most people feel stuck in life? It’s because they stop learning, stop pushing themselves to be better, and give up when it starts getting hard. But you’re different. The fact that you’re reading this right now shows me you’re serious about taking action and seeing real results. If you’re ready to be successful, then let me show you the way.

This book contains real life examples from my own personal experience that will teach you what you can do to level up your life. You’ll learn the strategies I used to redefine my career and find purpose in the work I do. I’ll also show you what you can do to build a meaningful life and develop the skills to be successful.

Helpful ideas

This book is written primarily for people still in school through mid-career. I am much older than that and still found some useful and actionable ideas. This book is an easy read. You might want to read it twice.

I bought the book because the author looks cute as hell on his Amazon author page, and it was under a dollar. It's lucky it was under a dollar because it doesn't deliver too much. This is a pep talk in written form. The majority of each topic is filler about Pham's specific struggles with debt, gambling addiction, parental expectations, career etc. Technically, Pham does tell you the steps to 'leveling up', he's just pretty darn low-key on specific steps.

For example, "Solve Your Problems Through Action Oriented Thinking - become better at solving problems by training your mind to break down the problems into minor tasks you can complete. Once you have that, focus on completing them. This is the foundation of action-oriented thinking." (loc 1029).

Yes. Agreed. Action-oriented thinking is crucial. The Next Action function of GTD drives my life. But determining next actions is hard work. It's a skill, that takes time to develop. And at no point does this book guide you through that process. For the problem of "Can't save," Pham's suggestion is, "see if you can cut back in any areas of unnecessary spending." (loc 282).

However where Pham is more general and motivational he is much better. The section on Living in the Past (loc. 669) was valuable to me. I have giant self-esteem issues i.e. I have practically none, and I need someone to regularly tell me to "Stop thinking you're not good enough."

I will keep this on my kindle for those days where all I can hear is that voice telling me I suck and I should give up. But I don't rec it if you're also hearing that voice and don't know what to do to actually move ahead with your goals in practical terms.

For this reason, because I don't think it delivers on the promise in the title, I give it 2.5 stars, for OK.
