When I chose this book to review, I really liked that it was aimed towards "the rest of us" I don't know about you, but I didn't grow up churched. I didn't know God before accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord & Savior. So when I read some authors books, I have a harder time following, primarily, because they're geared towards people like my husband, people who've been in the church since before birth! Devo For The Rest of Us aims to allow EVERYONE in. You're not held back by understanding of the Word, nor spiritual growth, nor how much you read the bible. This book is clearly written for the everyday man. (or woman!!) I truly appreciate the comedic style in which it was written. The author has done a great job grabbing your attention, and keeping it. He discusses everything from feeding your child, to the X-men to the Brady Bunch & movies you're sure to have seen. Each chapter is followed with appropriate scripture & follow up information that allows you to continue to learn. I am excited to share this book with the saints in my church, and excitedly await their thoughts. This is surely going on my bookshelf (vs the local Buy Nothing page!) because I will read it again! You can enjoy the rest of my review on my blog, Sandling All Day
This book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review from Tyndale House Publishers. No other compensation was provided.
This book is great for me to be honest because my new years resolution for 2016 is to have a closer relationship with God and this book will definitely help me and be one of my everyday reads. The book has a 40 days journey to faith which is awesome, I wish the book had more than 40 days but I think that you could read the book over and over if you like.
With so much stuff going on in the world some people tend to get depressed and worried about everyday life and the future. I think this book is a good way to help you to focus on God and to not worry and stress about today and the future. This book can have you focus on God more and your faith. Love this book it is a must have in your life, this is one to carry around with your bible.
I received a book called: For Devo for the Rest of Us, By: Vince Antonucci for free for my honest opinion from http://www.tyndaleblognetwork.com/ .
Devo For The Rest of Us by Vince Antonucci took me on a forty-day journey that drew me in, challenged me, encouraged me, and reminded me of the key elements of my Christian life and experience
Devo For The Rest of Us invites the reader to take an eight-week trek, five days a week to allow the Lord to bring your relationship with Him into better focus. He does so not through preachy religious language, but foundational themes of the Christian life. Then Vince uses illustrations that can help apply those themes or resurrect them in our daily life.
When I finished the book, I felt refreshed and renewed, my heart lighter and full of joy! Vince wrote in a style that was inviting and real with personal stories and examples that enriched each day’s reading and correlated with the theme of the week.
This was a devotional that I looked forward to picking up each morning. It is written in a relaxed, conversational way, with plenty of stories and examples to help the reader get the point. Yet, in spite of the humor found in most days' devotionals, the writer did not shy away from the truth. It was theologically sound, and basic, yet challenging. After reading the discussion of the day, there were passages to be read from the Bible, and then clarification questions and challenges based on the Scripture. As the description notes, this is good for a new Christian, and a solid review of the basics for long-time believers.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.
