Romance can be a surprise, even if you're ready for everything…

Parajumper Nic D'Onofrio just buried his best friend. The motto of his rescue squad is Simpliciter Paratus: Absolutely Ready, but the only thing Nic feels ready for is vacation. After finding a damsel in distress on the side of the road, he can't help but spring into action.

Julie is stranded, out of gas, and beautiful. She's also wearing her pajamas and can only remember her first name. When she won't let Nic take her to the hospital, they'll do the only logical thing: go back to his condo together.

When Nic learns that Julie's family has been murdered and someone shows up looking for her, he knows this is a situation he can't handle alone. He needs the teamwork and the camaraderie of the entire Air Force 506th Rescue Squad to save the day.

True Valor is the first installment in a five-book military romance series. If you like heartwarming chemistry, page-turning suspense, and wholesome romance, then you'll love this series starter.

After spending 24 years in the Air Force I tend to steer away from military romances; so pleased that I took a chance on this series. Jax obviously loves her para rescue team (PJs) and brings you into their world from the first chapter.

Julie is found sitting in her car wearing pajamas having lost her memory. Our hero Nic takes her in and can't stop himself from helping her discover how and why she ended up on the side of that road. I couldn't put the book down until it was finished and was searching for book 2 to continue the adventure.

I try to support local authors by buying and reading their books. Jax and I travel in some of the same circles. I went to her book signing and picked this up without much expectation - it just isn't my genre.

Surprisingly, though, I was engaged right away. There is a romance in this story but the story isn't just a romance. There are elements of thriller and mystery, too. The characters are three-dimensional, the plot moves along nicely, and the writing is clear and vivid.

I didn't give it 5 stars because of a few little distractions. Your mileage, as always, is likely to vary; but I was distracted by extra commas where they don't belong and by a little problem of verisimilitude: elite military men who never curse.

On the other hand, with the tiniest bit of attention, this book could read like a Reacher novel. A couple of sentences broken into smaller bites, a couple of commas deleted, and you have the brutal, knife-through-butter prose of Lee Child.

If you like a love story or a mystery, give Jax Hunter a chance to impress.

First let me say that I'm not a fan of romance. I prefer straight historical fiction, literary fiction and non-fiction. I'm a writer and a voracious reader. As far as genre fiction goes, I love Westerns, mysteries (especially cozies) and fantasy with a northern European context. That said, this book was a fun, easy read and not cluttered by too many secondary characters or sub-plots. There was no contrived "conflict" between the main protagonists such as I've seen in far too many romances. As a mystery lover, I enjoyed the elements of mystery and suspense. I absolutely LOVE the covers of these books and they make a great-looking collection. If you enjoy a love story with actual romance, rather than the porn-for-chicks that seems to have flooded the market, you'll enjoy this book.

Let me just say Wow! What a wonderful read, I just could not put this book down. Fast paced, easy read, constant excitement, super story what else can I say? Jax Hunter you have a new fan!

This book grabs you on page one and never slows down. I have started book 2 and may be up all night to finish. Nic's story is wonderful, heart felt and emotional. Love it!

I was apprehensive because military romance isn't one of my preferred genres. My skepticism of the damsel in distress thing turned to pleasant surprise as Jax's plot started taking interesting turns I didn't see coming. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!

When I was looking for a book to read it the author’s name that caught my attention 😂 so I had to give this book a try. It’s a murder mystery/romance/military book. I didn’t really know what to expect when I started it, but it was an interesting read with twists and turns along the way. Being the wife of a military rescuer (although this book is Air Force not navy) I found all of the rescue stuff really interesting. I would be interested in reading the rest of the series.

That Others May Live

As a wife to a retired Air Force PJ, many elements of this book struck familiar chords for me. Not unlike life with my PJ, True Valor was a wild ride.

I really tried to like this story; I did! But from the very first chapter I was so angry! If you find a woman in the snow with amnesia, you take her to the police or the hospital. What you do not do is take her to your place and keep her there for days. What you consider helping is actually kidnapping. I'm not going to go into all the other reasons I struggled with this book as it would be counter productive. What I will say is that romance novels, especially ones as short as this book, need to focus on the romance or focus on the other story line - in this case it's the mystery/action story. Trying to combine both makes for awkward conversations and romance scenes that make little sense.

Great book I really enjoyed the story line. The strong characters become a part of your circle of friends and you don't want to say goodbye!

Loved Julie!

I loved the chemistry between Julie and Nic. Julie had temporary amnesia and someone was after her. Nic protected Julie and caught the killer.
Thank you Ms. Hunter for a great start.

Quick read

I liked the characters and learned more about them as their story unfolds. It was a good storyline. I'm just not a big military romance reader.

Totally unbelievable

I only got through 3or 4 chapters but couldn't concentrate because it was so conceivable. No cops, really? Where did she get clothes to ski?

Parajumper Nic D'Onofrio comes to Lake Tahoe to ski and forget that his life-long best friend was killed in a training accident. The last thing he expected to find was the woman of his dreams; she sat in her car beside the road in her pj's and only knew her first name and with a nickname of Batman, he had to come to her rescue.

Julie is scared, only remembers her first name and quotes Shakespeare, eats mustard on her fires and just can't remember much else. Nic contacts his teammate Hollywood and he finds that her family has been murdered and she is missing.

The twists and turns takes them to the murder scene, her Dad's mountain cabin with a booby trap, a local Sheriff with secrets to hide and a suicide too.

The True Valor in the story is shown in two aspects of the plot. The sheriff posing as a Metal of Valor winner never even served in the military and is exposed. Nic's team comes to Julie's rescue showing True Valor that our specially trained military teams practice as part of their everyday jobs. We need to all be thankful and proud for the service they give our country and it's people.

True Valor is my first read by author Jax Hunter. I must say, I was impressed with this well written book. Jax Hunter has given us an exciting story with amazing characters, action, humor and spice. Nic and Julie's story is a fast paced read and will keep you engaged from start to finish. I enjoyed True Valor and look forward to reading more from Jax Hunter in the future. True Valor is book 1 of the True Heroes Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Not that this books wasn't well written because it was. Not because is wasn't edited great because it was. I love a military romance ads much as the next person but I found that there was way more military and just a touch of romance. Not really enough in my opinion that would classify this as a romance book. I was disappointed in that. I appreciate the author knows her stuff when it comes to the military but for a romance book there should be more concentration on the romance. But that's just me.

Good start

This was a good start to this series. While not as good as some other rescue series I will be looking at getting the rest and adding to my read again list.
