Avanti Chronicles #3

Delphini: Damage Control

Rate this book
When Dax and Bell crash land on an unknown planet they only have one objective— find their friends and fellow Avanti. Of course Bell needs to heal up from his injuries first, then they have to work out where to go. Their biggest problem is— they hadn’t counted on the world they landed on being quite as large as it was.
Along the way they encounter hostile local warriors, incredible beasts and more than their fair share of problems. It would be fascinating, if they weren't so worried about their friends.
Dax has gone into damage control mode, as the commander of the Avanti it’s his job, his duty, to see his friends and teammates safe and there is nothing that will stand in the way.
Bell, the calmer of the two, has finally found somewhere he can let his inner darintha beast be free and he’s making the most of it, using his darintha senses to help find their missing friends.
Never forgetting their mission, the two embark on a journey that not only tests them to their limits, but also deepens the trust and friendship that being Avanti is all about. Together, they search for their friends, and fight for survival as only the Avanti can.

May your journey be swift and uneventful, may you all get one step closer to your truemates and may good triumph over evil. Remember love conquers all.

Short catch up with the team

This one runs at the same time as book one and is basically what happened with Dax and Bell before they met up weighty other guys.

There's lots of Avanti badassery as they make their way to the fallen pod belonging to Corin and Dex and there're more snippets of how far the plotters are willing to go.

In this book we see what happened to Bell and Dax when they crashed on the planet and the few minutes before they left the main ship. They dont know how their friends are or if they are still alive and during the time they spend searching for them, they meet new people, help some of them and fight with others, and make new allies like the Refrinti they save.
Most of the time they need to hide in the woods, to avoid being seen by other warriors, since they dont know if they would be hostile or not and is in one of this occasions that Bell sees Niko for the first time.
He doesnt know his name or who he is, and Niko doesnt see him, but Bell cant keep his eyes off him and something inside his heart is telling him that the young and beautiful man is his mate. Dax too understands that Bell is feeling a strange pull towards the other man, and when the warriors pass them and dont stop, Dax asks his friend if he wants to go back and talk to them. Bell replies that they dont know their clan or how they would react and that they still need to find their friends. Bell knows that maybe he is losing his mate, but he is too worried about their friends to stop and think about his love life.

They continue their journey, meet more people and help some of them, and in the end they are able to talk with Tate. This is the conversation we read about in the first book. They now know that Tate and Corin are alive and soon will meet with them again. They just wish that also Hunter and Bray will soon get in contact and tell them they are ok.

I found the book a bit too long, like always for this author, and a bit boring, I wanted to skip most of the pages to finally be able to read about the other couples, and sometimes I did. The only really interesting scene was when Bell saw Niko for the first time. Yes there were some other cute scenes, for example when Bell in his shifter form and Dax go hunt together or fight laughing like idiots, trying to win the match, or when Bell and the Refrinti's cubs cuddle together. But like I said before, TOO DAMN LONG. (not in a good way..pun intended)

This was an amazing story. I've loved the other Avanti books, but finally we get close and personal with other members and see how they survive after crashing to a strange planet. We follow the men through adventure after adventure as they try to find out what has happened to the rest of their team. As with the other books, this one is a brilliant introduction to a fascinating world and people. It is a fun read to see this side of men we know little about, and while there isn't a huge romance going on in this book as there is with the others, this book is just as good. I can't wait for these men's stories. I am so addicted to the worlds this author has created. I can't recommend this enough.

At first, I was at lost I thought it would be a fast catch up to the book 2 but it's actually the journey of Dax and Bell from the crashing to the first contact via comm with Tate and Corin. It actually put you on the context that they actually met people. Good and bad. They make impression. Great scene of action. A bit too long for a short story. But still interesting.

Four and a half stars!
This story isn’t a romance. However it answers some of the questions raised in books one and two of the series. It’s not really required to read either book to understand or even enjoy this one. But I do suggest reading book one at least so you can see some of the things mentioned in passing in this book.
I loved getting to see Dax and Bell’s adventures when they first touched down on the planet. They showed their true colors throughout the story by helping everywhere they could. From little critters to huge refrinti, they both worked to leave those they met better off than they met them.
Ms. walker writes amazing emotion. Throughout the story you are constantly feeling what the characters are. Bell’s desire to relax Dax, his heartbreak of being able to meet someone important, and his need to help those around him. Dax’s desolation at not being able to protect his teammates, his need to ensure everyone he meets is safe, his relief when finally making contact with Tate. All of those ups and downs in the story I felt with the characters. I enjoy her voice and the way she tells a story.
There are some interesting new questions that are asked in this story. There are some theories and revelations on the way. It makes me eager to keep reading the books in this series.

Wow !! This book takes us back to book 1 and fills in the gaps of what happened to Dax and Bell, from the time they enter the pod on board the Delphini, right up to them making contact with Corin and Tate. In this we learn more about not just what happened to them, the villagers they encountered who helped them, but also about how Bells shifter is able to help him, what type of creature his shifter is, and it's mannerisms too.
I found this book to be absolutely amazing, the way that not just the surroundings they find themselves in are described but also the way the shifter of Bell's is able to do certain things when Bell is injured, how, when there's a threat or danger Bell's shifter comes to the forefront of his mind, begging to be unleashed. Again we also meet the Refrinti but not the ones that we know from previous books, although they are just as good natured.
Yet again another absolutely amazing action packed story, which is broken up with light hearted fun, but not the type of fun we're used to from Tate.
Loved it !!

Another great story.

Editing/proofreading glitches:
1) What is meant by 'class G3 planet'? I've done several searches and found that neither planets nor stars are have this classification. No explanation given in the story.
2) ‘Shit with both the Founders and the Senate is getting stranger by the day.’ Should possibly read, ‘Shit with both the Founders and the Senate (behaving this way?) it's getting stranger by the day.’
3) 'The two women quickly averted their eyes as Dax shifted.' The proofreaders really messed up with this one. Dax isn't a shifter, Bell is!
4) 'I won’t waste my time on people who are interested in learning.' Really? I do believe this sentence was supposed to read, 'I won’t waste my time on people who aren't interested in learning.'

A great side book in the series.

As with all of Ms Walker's books, this is well written and compelling. It adds to the story in book one. It is the journey of Dax and Bell from the time they left their damaged and dying battle cruiser until their contact with the two primary characters in book one. The characters are well developed and you can believe their commitment to doing their best for everyone they encounter. It fills in a lot of the background information about the story in book one and information about the planet they have crash landed on. Try to read book one first!
A couple of hours well spent.
