Chance Northridge left Los Lobos more than ten years ago, deserting his family and his young, unclaimed mate. Now he’s back, upsetting their world. But those he left behind don’t understand that the pack’s former insane Alpha threatened everything Chance cared about in the world. Still, he’s got some big-time groveling ahead of him.
Julie Pembroke has struggled hard to forget her disloyal mate’s desertion and to gain acceptance in the pack as a woman on her own, and making a new life for herself.
When disaster strikes his family and endangers Julie’s life, can Chance prove himself worthy of a place in the pack and in his mate’s heart?

I do love me some tormented werewolves. The downside is that both Chance and Julie suffered when Chance was forced to run. Come to think of it, his brother suffered, too. It was just a big ball of suffering under the previous Alpha.
But Chance is back and he's torn between wanting to claim his mate and not wanting to mess up her life. Julie's a wee bit peeved at Chance for running, but she's also drawn to him in the way of mates. Which basically means they resist until they just can't anymore. Then the sexy times are unstoppable.
Well, until a dark cloud moves through Los Lobos and tries to disrupt things.
There's some intriguing setup for the next book in the Northridges story. Wolves, man. They know what they want when they see it. Sometimes circumstances beyond their control just get in the way.
Fighting, sexy reunion, heartfelt renunion, and a mystery. Everything you could ask for in a werewolf story. Kincaid adds her second title to this multi-author series with the reuniting of Chance and Julie and it is HOT!
I don't know how to describe this book, but it came across as very...lame. The premise was good and there was a lot of potential here. But there was a lack of development in the relationship between Julie and Chase, and quite frankly, Julie was one of the blandest characters I've ever read. The book started out strong with Chase, and his POV throughout was actually decently written, especially compared to Julie. But with the two of them as a romantic couple, I didn't like how they went from 0 to 100 after two weeks of avoidance. They had a past together, but since the reader isn't privy to most details of how they used to be as a couple, there's a lot to be desired here.
What really bothered me about this book was that the summary on Goodreads makes it seem like Julie went through a lot of adversity by being an unclaimed/unmated female wolf in their pack...but there's zero mention of that in the book. Part of what intrigued me about the book was because of that: I thought Julie would have gone through being ostracized in the pack, but there's nothing. The summary on Goodreads says: "Julie Pembroke has struggled hard to forget her disloyal mate's desertion and to gain acceptance in the pack as a woman on her own, and making a new life for herself." The only part of that sentence that was actually true was that she struggled with Chase's unexplained departure from the pack. And even then, it's brief. The rest of her narration is about her being horny for Chase.
There's no depth to Julie; I felt nothing for her because her story wasn't really written. Yes, Chase left her for 10 years, but how was she struggling to be accepted in the pack? Why would she have a hard time with that, anyway? It's not a pack where every female must be mated to be accepted. And as for "making a new life for herself"...that wasn't really shown either. It's mentioned early on that she's been wanting to open some fancy treat shop, but what else has she been doing this whole time to move on? She never wanted another mate, but when people say they're making a new life for themselves, that usually indicates massive changes taking place in their lives and moving on to better things.
I'm just so frustrated by the loss of plot and character development here. I wish the author had taken more time to write about: 1) the past that Chance and Julie shared before their separation, and 2) what Julie did with her time apart from him and how she dealt with it. With Chase, he talks about how he used alcohol to block the pain out for a little while, but with Julie, it's like the separation was just a thing that happened. It would have made such a difference if the author had written even just a flashback to the day that Chase left: how he felt doing it, thinking it was to save Julie; and how she felt when she realized Chase was gone, thinking he left her because he didn't want her or something. Having that small insight into how Julie felt that day would have helped shape her character so much more.
Also, it really helps to have characters talk to each other instead of just fucking each other; I really hate when authors do that. It does nothing but prolong the story, and while that's good for page-count, it's very dissatisfying to the readers who look for real plot along with the steam that NA provides.

Chance returns to his pack after 10 years hoping to have an opportunity to repair relationships. Julie, who was to be his mate, is still there and he will have to deal with her with another mate. Then he learns so many truths.
I could not put this book down. I loved Chance and Julie and their increasing sexual tension. It takes Chance a long time to learn the truth about him and Julie as well as do something about it. The secondary characters are good especially his brother Brick and wife Summer and their children. I loved seeing Brick with his children. It was beautiful.
The story mostly deals with Chance and Julie trying to quell their desire for one another. Both could have been better at communicating and asking about the past but it does get resolved. I will be reading more in this series.
Chance and Julie knew they were intended to be mates when (the now ex psycho alpha) Magnum forced Chance to leave in order to protect Julie. Being without her hasn’t been good for him but it has forced Julie to become a strong independent woman and okay so maybe she is a little pissed off at the world because her mate ran off without telling her why but it has been 10 years she should be over it. Watching their reunion is a bit voyeuristic but so much fun. Another Chance is everything a second chance romance should be. I loved that the town was upset with Chance on Julie’s behalf and I adored watching them grow, forgive and love. As with the other books in this loosely connected series this book can be read standalone but it is going to make you want to go back and check out the others.
