Sunny McDonald is in the ultimate forbidden relationship. Her boyfriend Magnus is a vampire, and the leader of the Blood Coven. And when the Coven decides that Magnus needs a mate to be his co-ruler, Sunny's humanity puts her out of the running. The Coven's chosen candidate is Jane Johnson, a magna cum laude graduate of Oxford University who just happens to look like a vampiric supermodel.
Sunny is suspicious of a Rhodes Scholar who can't answer the most basic poli-sci questions, but Magnus brushes it off as petty jealousy. Still, when the Blood Coven goes to Las Vegas for a vampire convention, Sunny and her twin sister Rayne secretly tag along. And Sunny's not going home before she learns the truth about Jane. Because not everything stays in Vegas-especially bad blood.

Bad Blood by Mari Mancusi Blood Coven Vampire series #4. YA vampire paranormal romance. Best read in series order. Alternating books between the twins. This is from Sunny’s POV. Cliffhanger. Sunny McDonald is dating the leader of the Blood Coven, though she’s not a vampire herself. The Coven decides it’s time Magnus needs a mate and co-ruler and has chosen a candidate. Magnus says it’s the way things are done since Sunny can’t take the role but Sunny suspects that Jane, the supposed manga cum laude graduate supermodel is hiding something. Denied the request to go with Marcus to Las Vegas for the mating ceremony, Sunny and Rayne decide it’s a good time to visit their father, who just happens to live on the Strip in Vegas. Sunny is determined to investigate and prove that Jane is a fraud.
Sunny is upset because Magnus more or less just calls her jealous and too young to know any better. Sure, she’s only 17 and he’s a thousand years old but she knows a bad actor when she sees one. This story was a bit questionable for me since the girls are 17 or maybe 18 and Rayne “loves” Vegas and gambling and hits the slots in the airport. The law to gamble in Vegas is 21. Maybe it was only 18 when this was first written? And the girls clearly have the means to travel, gamble and shop though they are still in high school. Moving on…. Dad’s called away on business and the twins meet a stepmother and stepsister while Sunny follows Jane around the city. Surprising twist at the end creates a cliffhanger and the thought, “what could possible be next?” Vampire romance with a huge tub of salt but an interesting enough storyline to start the next book and find how it plays out.
It is not easy being a seventeen years old high school student especially having a boyfriend who is a thousand years old vampire. Complicating matters for Magnus the vampire head of the Blood Coven and human Sunny McDonald is she does not want to convert while his followers demand he accept a blood mate to co-rule; humans are forbidden. While he conceals his destiny from her, she learns all about it from Rhodes Scholar Oxford University magna cum laude Jane Johnson, the coven's chosen one.
Sunny has issues beyond jealousy though that is what Magnus assumes is eating at her. Instead Sunny wonders how someone graduating from prestigious Oxford with honors, knows nothing, even common information, about her school and teachers. Worse she dresses trashy and acts as if the educated are beneath her contempt. Something is not right so when the Coven heads to Vegas for the blood mate convention, Sunny and her vampiric-slayer twin sister Rayne secretly go with them to prove Jayne is a fake before the binding exchange of vows occurs.
Sunny is a pure blood normal American teen who has accepted that vampire exist with a calm demeanor even as she is the readers prime escort into a fascinating sub-culture that resides within the greater society. Volunteer blood donors insure the edict of not killing humans is enforced. Sunny is somewhat hurt that Magnus blows away her concerns rejecting the initial circumstantial evidence she provides without listening. She vows to save him anyway and find a mortal teenage male who she could care for. Although campy and amusing, the latest Blood Coven young adult urban fantasy (see Stake That, Girls That Growl and Boys That Bite) is a splendid vampire tale.
Sunny and her twin sister Rayne are at it again. When Magnus, Sunny's century year old vampire boyfriend, gets the bad news about having to get a blood mate, her world comes crumbling down. Magnus' blood mate is a supermodel looking, Oxford graduate vampire named Jane Johnson, who just doesn't feel right to Sunny. Unfortunately, Magnus just puts off her suspicions as jealousy. When the Coven gets called to a convention in Las Vegas, Sunny and Rayne decide to secretly tag along so they can get to the truth about this so-called "Jane". What they aren't expecting is a whirl wind of adventure that leads them onto different paths all along the way that lead to more mysteries for them to solve. It's up to Sunny to save her vampire lover and the Coven before Jane destroys it with her, Bad Blood.
Bad Blood is the 4th book in the Blood Coven Vampire series
SPOILER: at the end, sunny gets to magnus on time and saves him.
Bad Blood, the fourth book in Blood Coven Vampire series, is the first book I have read. After reading the short prologue I felt quite caught up in past events and easily settled into this book.
Sunshine “Sunny” McDonald and her twin sister, Rayne (yes, cutesy weather names) are seventeen years old and live quite the life. Sunny dates the thousand year old vampire Magnus, who is the leader of a big vampire coven. Sunny is a mortal, or at least now is – she was mistaken for her sister in a previous book and was accidentally bit, but was able to reverse the vampire process. Rayne, after a sequence of events in previous books is now a half vampire, half vampire slayer.
The biggest worry in Sunny’s life at the moment is whether she should “go all the way” with Magnus. Rayne, more of the carefree, screw the world sister tells her to go for it, and after much internal deliberation, Sunny decides after the football game, this will be the night. Magnus has rented a hotel room, and he is ready! (Heck he is 1,000 years old..I bet he is!)
However, Sunny will not get her share of booty at the moment. Jane, the person who the coven has chosen to be Magnus’ bloodmate picks this night to show up. Magnus needs someone to help run the coven, and Jane is selected from many applicants. There is to be a meeting of the covens in Las Vegas in a few days and it will be there where Jane will be officially inducted into vampire society and take over her duty to help Magnus. Magnus reassures Sunny that he still loves her and Jane is just there for business purposes only, but Sunny is hurt and confused.
She decides to take matters into her own hand and do some research on this Jane person. Jane supposedly is well educated from Oxford but after a few questions from Sunny, Jane becomes flustered and confused. Sunny gets a strong feeling that Jane is not who she says she is, but Magnus just thinks Sunny is jealous.
Using the excuse to visit their dad in Las Vegas, Sunny and Rayne fly out to crash the coven convention and prove to Magnus that Jane is a fraud.
Bad Blood is a cute, quick read that is sometimes silly, but entertaining nonetheless. This book definitely reads more towards a younger audience – I can see a young teen really enjoying this book. As an adult, it was cute, but not something I would automatically turn to or anticipate in the future.
Sunny definitely thinks like a seventeen year old, even though her actions and what she is allowed to do might portray someone older. She has a pretty fun, lighthearted outlook on life. Both her and Rayne seemed to have a lot of freedom, but of course the book would not have been as interesting if the parents had been hovering about. While the book is told in Sunny’s point of view, I was more intrigues with Rayne and her “bad girl” charades. She used her fake idea to gamble the nights away, and she is definitely more the emotional, in your face character.
Sunny and Magnus are in love, yet in this book I never really felt love from Magnus. Please keep in mind I didn’t read the first three, so I really don’t have their history. In Bad Blood, Magnus treated Sunny more as a petulant child, rather than his girlfriend. Now there is a 983 year difference between them – HA. During her travels to Las Vegas, Sunny meets Jayden, a cute “emo” that she can’t help but fall for, especially as Magnus is ignoring her taking care of Jane and coven business. I really enjoyed the dynamics' in their relationship and hope we have not seen the last of him.
The ending was a little over dramatic, and a bit too easily won by the good guys. The very end opens up an entire new direction for the series to head and many will be chomping at the bit to get the next book.
This instalment in the Blood Coven series has Sunny as the narrator, like the first book. I have to say, I think I prefer Rayne's narrative, because Sunny is a little whiny and a little bit childish at times. Although, having said this, there were some points in the book that I really enjoyed reading, especially when Sunny was having a pillow fight with Stormy. But I won't spoil who Stormy is. The events in this book, are once again, completely unbelievable. I don't think I really realised it until the end of Bad Blood, but the things that happen are just silly and would never ever happen, even if vampires were real. And yet, that's what makes these books such good reads. They would never happen, yet they're written as if they could have happened. And I believe them, a little. Mancusi is very good at writing in a teenage voice. She uses just the right amount of sarcasm, and teenager-ness, but she makes sure that she uses maturity in her writing too, just to make sure that Sunny doesn't come across as just some silly, shallow teenager. In fact, she's quite the opposite. Though some of her actions in this book are dumb, and you end up screaming at her in your head, telling her what she should have done, you always know that she'll be able to get out of any tricky situations she may find herself in. Even though she's not the Vampire Slayer, she is strong, and a great character. Overall, Bad Blood was a great quick read. Most of what happened was quite predictable, and I managed to guess what was going to happen before it happened, which I'm not very good at doing, but I still enjoyed it. The one twist at the end though, I wasn't expecting at all, and now I'm eager to read the next book, just to find out what on earth is going on. I can't wait!
If you were wanting more Sunny in this book - YOU GOT IT.
This addition to the Blood Coven Vampires series follows Sunny (but don't worry, Rayne is still kicking!). This time around, Magnus has to get a blood mate - and guess what? It's not Sunny.
Sunny, who's madly in love with Magnus, and her trusty sister Rayne have to work hard to try to get Magnus back to Sunny and away from this blood mate. Will they do it? I guess you'll have to read to find out...
I really loved this book, it helps that Sunny is my favourite out of the two girls but I also really enjoyed the adventure and drama within this novel. It's a big step up from the last novel in my opinion. This book hooks me instantly, made me not want to stop reading it, and desire more from Mari Mancusi ASAP.
This book had it's faults - Sunny is definitely in love with Magnus, but I doubted his love for her. While Sunny's actions and thoughts show how deeply in love she is, Magnus barely seems like she has the time of day (despite expressing his feelings).
Overall, this young adult novel was everything I wanted (minus the Magnus fault, but hey we can't have everything we want). It's silly, cute and totally unrealistic - but that's what I want in a silly, YA vampire novel that's filled with cute moments and teenage drama. Mari shows her true skill at writing as a teenage which makes this book even more "believable" within it's realm. That helps this quick read continue moving at a super fast pace and become utterly addicting - what teenager didn't think like Sunny and Rayne?
Okay now the series is starting to get way better. I'm glad I stuck with it but it's kind of sad that it took it to get better by the fourth book. At least for me. Please don't hate me.
If you don't like the first three books of this series, like me, definitely try to stick with it because it gets better. I promise.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I have to say, I am a little frustrated when goodreads site breaks and losing all that I've written. So let start again with my review of Bad Blood...
I'm disappointed with myself, I've just started into this series at book 4. The storyline isn't rocket science, so I didn't feel as though I missed out on any character development, but I can't wait to read the first three books.
Sunny is so young and she is really funny with all her whining. Yeah, it got annoying at times, but it adds to the story. A wonderful cast of characters — her twin sister Rayne is a vampire slayer and her boyfriend Magnus is a vampire, and leader of a vampire coven.
A great read about Sunny and all her problems, which seems to escalates when her boyfriend is forced to marry this beautiful blond bimbo and Daddy dearest isn't around to greet the girls when they arrive in Vegas.
So, I'm not in a good mood while reading this but Mancusi's jokes never fail to make me grin. Or laugh.
In the fourth book of Blood Coven, which was told from Sunny's point of view, her vampire boyfriend, Magnus, has finally assigned to a blood mate, something she's very afraid of. Magnus having a blood mate equals to Magnus having a wife. And where's she gonna be?
But she smells something fishy about Jane, the blood mate. Oxford graduates, miss smart-ass while she actually know nothing about Oxford. And yes, she has to admit, she's jealous. And no one believe her.
This fourth book is as hilarious as the previous ones. Plus, if you like something parody-ish, you might like this book.
And seriously, what's with the ending? It makes me giggling too much!
I skimmed the last half. Not because it was bad but because it bored me, which is odd. Usually these books are quick and easy to get through and Sunny is my favorite twin but for some reason I just couldn't get into her character. Magnus annoyed me to no end so maybe that's why. I like them much more when they're bickering like an old married couple then flat out fighting. The end of the book ended how it should have but definitely not my favorite in the series.
(Im a spoiler(and 'spoiler' is just an understatement)!!..Beware)
PERSPECTIVE OF SUNNY BOOK #4 What's a girl to do when her boyfriend suddenly needs to run off to Vegas with another girl? Sunny knows that better than anyone when her vampire boyfriend and Blood Coven leader, Magnus, gets hot-and-steamy (Sunny suspects) with a girl specially picked by the Blood Coven to be his blood mate, one who's going to be turned into a vampire in a few days so she can forever rule by Magnus's side. And it certainly doesn't help that this girl, Jane, is supermodel gorgeous and supposedly has a brain the size of Oxford. But something doesn't quite add up, other than her jeaously, so Sunny secretly follows Magnus to Vegas to see what's up... and maybe save her boyfriend's life.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the fourth book in the Blood Coven series which features twin sisters Sunshine (Sunny) and Rayne McDonald.
Sunny, as those of you who follow this series know, is the girlfriend of Magnus, Master vampire of the Blood Coven. Sunny is a human, but experienced a shock of her life when she was mistakenly bitten by Magnus 5 months previously, and nearly became a vampire herself. *See Boys That Bite. Magnus thought she was Rayne, her identical twin, who went through all the vampires pre-testing to become his blood mate. Thankfully, Magnus and Sunny found the Holy Grail, and stopped her from transforming. It also made her blood unwanted by vampires.
Rayne is our Goth-girl, part-time vampire slayer, and vampire who is in a blood mate relationship with Jareth. **See Stake That!* Rayne doesn't have any vampires powers except the inability to eat normal food. She still drinks processed blood, since real blood grosses her out.
You couldn't find a pair of twins more different in the way they act, dress, or the people they hang-out with. Rayne, shockingly, is still with the cheerleading squad after she was successful in returning them to normal after having been bitten by a werewolf in London (See Some Girls Growl).
This story is told in the POV of Sunny. So, you have two books in the POV of Sunny (Boys that Bite, and Bad Blood), and two books from Rayne's POV (Stake That! and the above referenced book).
As you know, if you read Some Girls Growl, there was a major cliffhanger at the end of the book where Jane Johnson shows up and claims to be Magnus newly assigned blood mate ordered by the Vampire Council. Even Rayne was shocked to silence which for her, is really unusual. Sunny goes into a funk, and walks away from him.
Magnus, in my opinion, should have been slapped upside his stupid head by both Rayne and especially Sunny. I really had problems feeling anything for Magnus throughout this book, especially after he basically tells Sunny that she need to grow up, to get a life, and stop feeling jealously towards Jane who is destined to be his blood mate whether he, or anyone likes it or not.
Sunny and Rayne, reluctantly, then fly out to Las Vegas under the disguise of meeting with their wayward father who slept with another woman who was his secretary at the time (Heather), and divorced their mother 4 years before. The same father who couldn't bother showing up for their 17th birthday party, but did when Rayne was "dying" of the werewolf virus she was infected with after stopping it from spreading.
Rayne becomes a gamblers anonymous best fried with the way she throws her money around, and basically turns her back on her sister. Rayne also wanted nothing to do with her second family after finding out that she has a half-sister (Stormy) and step-sister (Crystal) by Heather, the new step mom.
Sunny has some issues as well, but at least she had time to try to form a relationship with her 11 year old sister Stormy. I liked Stormy. She's definitely atypical for a teenager, being a whiz kid with electronics and also hacking. There are several scenes which, if you are a teen, you will enjoy. I'll even use the C word; CUTE. I'm wondering if we will see any more from her, or was this like two ships passing in the ocean.
Sunny finds out that Jane isn't who she claims to be after seeing her with another vampire, later identified as Cornelius. Sunny meets with a boy named Jayden, who I actually liked a lot better for her than Magnus. Jayden ends up getting involved in something he had no idea actually existed until Sunny came along; the reality that vampires do exist and that he has been working for one running his Dracula Revue play all along.
As for the truth behind Jane, she's actually Sasha, and she and Cornelius worked together for the High Stakes Coven to overthrow Magnus for the death of Cornelius's sister Tabitha at the hands of Lucifent, the former blood coven master. The real Jane was killed right before Jane shows up and meets Magnus.
There is, of course, another huge cliffhanger that leaves readers stunned, as well as Rayne and Sunny themselves. It seems David was correct when he said there's more to your mother than you realize. It seems that she's a Sidhe Fairy, along with their father, and Heather, the step mom!
Ok, so, in recap....Sunny was correct in her assessment that Jane was a fraud and trying to destroy Magnus and the Blood Coven. Magnus is a total loser for doubting her for a minute, and then thinking she was jealous, and then expecting Sunny not to ask him to hit the road and don't come back Jack. Sunny kills Cornelius after he bites Jayden after finding the damaging goods on Sasha/Jane. Sunny arrives just in time with the material to take Sasha/Jane down, but Jane drinks Magnus blood as everyone is busy acting stupid and confused. Rayne comes to her senses, after spending the entire story being a gambling addict, and "slays" Jane. Jayden and Sunny kiss while he is in the hospital recovering from his blood drain by Cornelius; Magnus walks in and sees them. Sunny and Magnus come to terms with how their relationship SHOULD work, but probably won't with the cliffhanger at the end of the book. Sunny is considered a hero to the Blood Coven and ends up in Dracula's Revue with Jayden as the vampire playing a bit part of Mina, Van Helsing's lover that gets bitten by Dracula.
THE END
Next book(s): Night School (Rayne's POV), and Blood Ties?? Most likely Sunny's.
Oh my, poor Sunny! Although she knew that one day Magnus would have to find his blood mate, Sunny never expected it to be so soon. Shame on you Magnus for being a soft leader, and to you too Rayne for abandoning your twin sister when she needed you the most.
Jayden, I hope that you're the same species as Sunny and that she's your soulmate! 😉 I can't wait to read the next story and find out more about the family affairs, secret and the coming war!

"Bad Blood" is book four in the "Blood Coven Vampire" series by Mari Mancusi. This series gets better and better with each book I read in it. I love following Rayne and Sunny as they deal with the next issue that arises. Sunny gets a bad feeling when "Jane" shows up to be the blood mate to her boyfriend, Magnus. So Sunny and her sister fly to Las Vegas to keep an eye on Jane. Sunny feels like Rayne isn't taking the situation seriously and tries to do everything by herself. I just love the way Mari writes and can read it every day. I was so shocked to hear about Sunny and Rayne's dad and his new family. I would have to say my favorite scene was when Sunny asked for help from Stormy. I just can't get enough of this series, and I have the next book on deck to read.
I have been waiting for the fourth book in this series for quite a while now and it was good to have a book where Sunny is the main voice again as we really haven't had her point of view since book one. So its a nice change to see a story where the relationship between an immortal vampire and a "mortal" girl is not "and they lived happily ever after" but to see that they have real relationship problems and realistic homelife problems that make Sunny and Rayne seem approachable for girls/readers to relate with. Being children of divorce, dealing with their issues of abandonment of the main male figure in their lives and how it affects their relationships with their other halves. In the last book Jareth was able to really break through to Rayne and reasure her that he was not going to be like her father that he was going to be there for her so she could finally let down her walls and stop acting though and defensive. Where as with Sunny we really don't know her feelings till this book Bad Blood, it gets broken down that she has the same feelings as Rayne that are buried just as deep. It doesn't help however that Magnus is acting just like her father, what with being to busy to have time for her or trying to control her by claiming he is protecting her when in fact he is talking down to her and not treating her like an equal in his life and in turn his world. As she has never had someone solid constantly there and giving her all their attention she doesn't realize that Magnus is mistreating her till he ignores her theories on "Jane" and belittles her by claiming she is only jealous and acting like the child she is to his 1000 years. He though he acts like a complete jerk she still follows to help him because she loves him and can stand to lose what she considers the best person in her life, not realizing that she has given up so much to be with him already her friends, her social life, her high school years. In Vegas, Rayne and her also confront another big issue in their life...their stepmother Heather or HWB as they nicknamed her the woman who "stole" their father away. Only they come to learn that not everything as it appears when it comes to down to it with a big surprise waiting for them in his home. With their father once again not there to explain what really happen all those years ago. Sunny ends up thanks to Magnus not believing her meeting a human boy who actually might be her soulmate who shares her love for dancing and the theather and learns what its really like to be cherished and adored for being herself and finding someone who constantly wants to be around her and can be there to lean on and offer a shoulder to cry on. All in all Sunny ends up saving the day but is left with the understanding that her and Magnus have issues that they need to work on if their relationship is going to last and the feeling that she might not really love Magnus as much anymore and could maybe leave him for someone else. The ending once again leave you hanging with a ton of questions as what the girl's mother's boyfriend hinted in the last book is finally revealed by the girls parents that they are....fairies.

Before moving on to my thoughts, I want to say that I have NOT read the previous Blood Coven novels, and due to that, I probably missed some character development that happened in the previous novels. On the other hand, I can say first-hand that Mari Mancusi skillfully introduced me to the world of the Blood Coven and I was able to quickly grasp the concepts. This review will also be solely focused on Bad Blood without any influence from previous books.
Bad Blood was my first time reading any book in the Blood Coven series, and I was plesantly... surprised? content? I didn't exactly know what to expect, though I thought I would have connected more with Rayne, who emphathizes more with the "dark side." And, no, it's not because of their cookies. However, I actually connected more with Sunny, Rayne's twin sister. Sunny seems like the typical, optimistic fictional blonde, but in reality she's strong and fairly independent. She was a lot more relatable to me than Rayne because Sunny showed human fear but still managed to pull herself through it, while Rayne just seemed confident and more than a little pissed at the world. I thought Rayne was okay, still understandable as a person, but I just didn't feel that connection with her. Either way, I enjoyed the sarcastic banter between the two; there was a solid love-hate relationship going on here, which I could totally relate to given my own sister.
Mari Mancusi's pretty up-to-date, and I liked all the little pieces of pop culture she managed to throw in there. Those tidbits ranged from Katy Perry's "envy-inducing curves" to Hannah Montana and DDR (Dance Dance Revolution). Plus, Final Fantasy equals total love. (Or maybe I'm just a geek.) Either way, the setting was definitely 21st century and made the story and characeters come alive just that little bit more... and a tiny, okay, major portion of why I liked the references were that they were simply amusing, understandable, and made me smile.
Other than the light, fun jokes and good-humored jabs, there was some intense action, romance, and family problems. Basically: nobody's perfect and someone's going to have to pick up the pieces. There were some crazy vampire politics going on here and Sunny and Magnus's relationship greatly suffered because of it. Like my feelings with Rayne, or lack thereof, I don't really have an opinion of Magnus because he just simply isn't there a lot, which is also one of his and Sunny's major problems. I was a little dissapointed with his lack of trust in Sunny though. From a superficial viewpoint, Magnus sounds pretty hot, and I loudly appluad Sunny for not immediately succumbing to his charms all the time, a common fault among pretty boys. Can't say I blame anyone for melting, but hold some semblance of sense together, please!
Finally, the ending. I don't want to ruin it, so all I'm going to say is: WOAH. Total cliffhanger! It was totally out-of-the-blue, but I can't wait to see where Mari Mancusi takes it.
Plot: I haven't gotten back to the series for awhile, so when I saw it on the shelf, I grabbed it before anyone could take it. I was absolutely glad I did because this series continues to not disappoint. When I saw that it was in Sunny's view, I wasn't sure I was going to like it because I was so used to reading Rayne's POV. However, I did like Sunny's view because it was nice to see a human's POV in a vampire series that doesn't want to be a vampire, but feels in some situations that she was when she was battling against vampires. Her name does explain her, she finds the good in people and is determined to make her and Magnus' relationship bright up despite what is happening. I will say that I didn't like the constant "likes" and the "totallys" and all the teenage lingo. I'm a teenager, but I don't like when an author tries to make up lingo for their characters. We don't all talk like that. I haven't heard anyone talk in text for a few years now. But, I did like the plot and Sunny's view really made things interesting, including when she branches off to the theater where she meets a cast playing Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'.
Characters: Sunny-Sunny was a great character for this installment. I couldn't help but be drawn into her and Magnus' relationship. It was refreshing to see that she didn't want to be a vampire, but she also didn't want to be old and wrinkled while Magnus was still young. Sunny was great at finding the good at people and knowing when something was going on. Rayne-I will admit, I was kind of disappointed in Rayne this time around. She kept bailing on her own sister to gamble, what? I wasn't too fond when I read Rayne coming in the scene. She only seemed to care if what she had to do would benefit her. By the end, I did warm up to her and saw what I usually love in Rayne, but I thought it was pitiful that I had to wait until after everything transpired to see the good in Rayne. Magnus-Magnus was....oh, I honestly don't know. I loved him most of the time, but some things he said to Sunny, I gaped at. I did love how sweet and romantic he was when he talked about his love for Sunny. But, I couldn't stand him when he didn't believe Sunny or at least give her a chance to explain anything. He rather side with someone he barely knows than the girl he loves. Jayden-Oh, you will love Jayden! I surely did. I can't give away too much without revealing spoilers, but he will definitely be in the series more and I am so glad. He is romantic and the sweetest guy! I loved when him and Sunny would hang out. I know some people would probably hate him, but I can't wait to see how his and Sunny's relationship develops.
Cover: I loved the cover on this. I was used to the old covers from the previous books, but these are stunning. I don't know who the cover is suppose to be of, maybe Sunny (even though she has blonde hair) or Jane. But, the cover is lovely, as well as the others.
Overall Rating: I give this book a three out of four. I love this series and can not wait to read Night School, but the lingo really gets to me. The characters made the book though and I would love to read more in Sunny's POV.
These twins...they barely get out of one problem when they're already getting sucked into the next! Bad cases of mistaken identity seem to be a theme in this series.
This next problem though, is for Sunny. Everything was going peachy with Sunny and Magnus...until a bomb was dropped on us all in the last book: Magnus is getting a blood mate! YES, A FREAKIN' BLOOD MATE! Oh my vamp!
But there is something off about Magnus's soon-to-be blood mate...and Sunny is smart enough to notice it. But doesn't Magnus believe her? Nooooo, he doesn't! -_-
So, in order to prove him wrong (and save his ass), Sunny goes all the way to Las Vegas where Magnus is attending a meeting...and where this chick will officially become Magnus's blood mate. She and Rayne go here and they meet their step-family...and there is a shocking detail their parents failed to mention to them...and when I say shocking, I mean SHOCKING! Well, it was to me, anyway.
Rayne agreed to help Sunny uncover this lady's (whose name I totally forgot!) dirty little secret while they're in Las Vegas. But Rayne becomes a little...no, not a little, Rayne becomes VERY preoccupied with Poker and the Slot machines. So, now left pretty much alone, Sunny sets out to discover the truth about Magnus's blood mate.
While Sunny is on the mission of saving her boyfriend, she meets a very sweet guy, Jayden, who she may or may not be falling for.
I don't know if I have said this before, but I don't like love triangles...in fact, I hate them! They just complicate things too much and sometimes I totally hate one of the guys and don't want the girl to end up with him and other times I like both of the guys but the girl cant keep them both, now can she? Of course, just because I don't like love triangles doesn't mean I wont read a book with them. If a book sounds good to me I'll read it, love triangle or no.
In this case, I adored Jayden and I already loved Magnus...so that's totally not cool. But I actually didn't really mind this one, I mean, Magnus was being a total jerk-face and Jayden was there for her, so yay. And the million dollar question is...will Sunny be able to save Magnus while trying to not fall for Jayden?
Another character I really liked was their little sister Stormy. She was just adorable and very likable! I really hope to see more of her in future books!
One thing that bothered me, though, was the ending. I usually love twist endings, but this twist ending seemed a bit much...but it was still pretty shocking for me, so I guess its not all bad. I like being surprised (most of the time, lol)!
I looked at a lot of other reviews and, surprisingly, very few people preferred Jayden to Magnus in this particular book. Magnus actually called Sunny "jealous" and "childish" when she was right. And then he's like 'Oh no, will you ever forgive me? I've been such an idiot!' (If you can't tell, I'm paraphrasing.) Really, I just don't know what to say... Jayden is so sweat and attentive and selfless and totally the opposite of Magnus (in a good way) that I just want to scream!
Jayden is hot too... he's described as the cuter side of emo (black hair, dark clothes, pierced ears, and green eyes)but by the definition of emo I know ***cough***cough***cutter*** the person couldn't exactly be a hemophiliac (a person who has to go to the hospital for every little cut because they would bleed to death)... which Jayden is. So, I'm thinking more along the lines of goth. Which is better anyway.
Magnus and Sunny do have one thing in common. They both seem to be ultra-forgiving.
The ending surprised me.
FYI I have read the earlier part of the series unlike other reviewers. If you haven't you should try them; they're much better and, like this book, utterly hilarious. I prefer the ones about Rayne personally. She's cool, edgy, and kicks butt. In this one she was annoying but she had a lot on her mind.
Jane, who is to Magnus blood mate is not who she say she is. Sunny tried to warned Magnus thinking that sunny might be a little jealous. Magnus went to Las vegas for the ceremony which he and Jane will be bonded. Sunny also goes to Las Vegas without Magnus knowing but he found out anyway to investigate Jane for being evil. Since their dad lives in Vegas, Rayne and Sunny stayed with their step family. Eventually the girls began to to like them but Rayne had a hard time adjusting at first. They have a half-sister name Stormy who knows everything dealing with computers and is always playing with her Nintendo DS.
Sunny follow a guy, named Cornelius who really is a vampire when she see him talking to Jane. (Saw both Jane and Cornelius kissing more than like they were brother and sister. The guy leads her to Sun Hotel where Sunny meets a guy named Jayden. There is an audition for a play, Dracula, for someone to play the part of Mina. Sunny got that part. Meanwhile during the day Jayden and Sunny got to know each other and become close. Jayden turns out to be an hemophiliac.
Sunny continues to investigate Jane but it turns out that her real name is Sasha. Jane and Sasha are identical twins. Jane is the one that is suppose to be Magnus blood mate but she is dead. Sasha replaced her sister because Cornelius wants revenge on the Blood Coven for killing his sister. When sunny found this out she is has no where to run because there are savage vampires outside and she is trapped by Cornelius who cannot bite her since she is marked. Cornelius kidnapped Jayden who helped them escape by cutting himself so that the ambulance can get them out since he is a hemophiliac.
Sunny tells Magnus right at the ceremony and Magnus finally listens to her. But Sasha crab the vials of blood and drink it. Rayne then enter the room and stake her. Sunny goes to the hospital to see Jayden. As Magnus walk in the room, he see Jayden and Sunny making. But he understands saying that he is not always around because he's busy with coven work but say that he will make it up to her as long as he live. Jayden and Sunny are friends.
In the end, their mother comes to Vegas and tell them that they are endanger which was the reason why she sent them to visit their dad. It turns out the they are decedents of fairy and they have to return to Fairyland.

I am getting close to the end of the series. Ok halfway through anyways. Another good one is check off my list. This installment takes place in Vegas and is a lot of fun, we have jealousy, surprises, and of course some funny business going on and Sunny and Rayne’s life just keeps getting more and more complicated.
Long Story Short:
Magnus heads to Vegas to a vampire convention (teehee) and his new candidate for co-ruler, Jane, tags along, things get a little complicated. Sunny has a jealous side that she has kept hidden pretty well. Sunny feels there is something strange about Jane. She doesn’t seem to be on the up and up and this is cause for some action so she and Rayne decided to take a trip to Vegas to spy, I mean visit their father. In Vegas they get way more than they bargained for as secrets and more secrets are revealed.
My Thoughts:
I feel like my reviews for this series just keep getting shorter but it seems that there isn’t much to say beyond giving the book away that I have not already said in my previous reviews. These book are way fun and I love them. I can’t help it.
The author’s writing style remains steady, the plot keeps thickening, we meet new characters and revisit old ones, and the book ends on a cliffhanger that totally made my draw drop.
This installment was a bit slower for me than the rest and I can’t really place my finger on why. I love the setting, Vegas is always fun. I loved all the secrets and finding out more about the girls’ father. It was crazy to see Sunny in such a fit over Magnus having a co-ruler. It would have made everything easier if Sunny had stayed a vampire, but the complications are what keep the stories interesting.
Rayne was up to her mood swings full blast in this book. She didn’t like the truth about her father one bit and she was not afraid to show it. She did find ways to occupy her time and to get into a little bit of trouble along the way though. Same old Rayne for sure.
I enjoyed the book very much but it did feel like a bit of a build up book for the next installment. This one read a bit on the slow side for me compared to the other books. I definitely see a bigger story brewing and can’t wait to find out more.
In the End:
Of course I loved it and will keep on reading this series.
(2.5)Yes, I didn’t read the other three books. That could be the possibility as to way the stars are low and why I don’t really know the characters and how they normally act. I actually heard they weren’t themselves in this one, but I can’t really judge. I just wasn’t feeling it in this one.
Magnus doesn’t seem like a very understanding character, but who am I to know? I found Sunny to be very likable but I found her sister to be more interesting. I could completely understand her feelings toward the subject of her father. I’d be just as pissed off as Rayne if I found out my father’s little secret he’d be hiding all these years.
I stuck to finish reading the book b/c of Jane, she was a mystery, I wanted to know what was to become of her and of course we all know. For those of you who don’t know, Jane is the blood mate given to Magnus to help him run the coven. Sunny is not too happy about that b/c she’s worried about going all the way with Magnus and with Jane in the way it’s even harder. Magnus does not understand Sunny’s feeling at all about the blood mating and totally brushes off her suspicions about Jane as jealousy.
The whole story revolves around stopping the blood mating and searching for Jane’s past in Las Vegas. That’s were Sunny and Rayne’s father comes in, he lives there of course with his second family.
The ending, in my honest opinion, was completely random. I don’t know if there are any other hints in the previous books, but end seemed thrown together and came out of nowhere.
Maybe I should’ve read the previous books, but honestly like I said I’m not feeling it. Just to put it out there, for a while there, while reading, I thought the existence of vampires was known to world, but I guess I was wrong. But that’s my fault for not reading the series in order.
I love Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven series so it came as no surprise that I liked this one just as much as the others. They are all so light and funny and I adore the sisters! It is great that Mancusi goes back and forth between the sisters points of view for each book. I enjoy getting to read their hilarious adventures! They have a strong bond with one another and I delight in seeing them work together in every book to help solve the others problems. If you haven't yet tried the Blood Coven series, I highly recommend that you do!
Sunny and Rayne are at it again in Bad Blood. In Bad Blood, Sunny in the narrator. Sunny's boyfriend Magnus is being forced to take a Blood Mate and Sunny can't do anything to stop it. When she meets Jane, his future blood mate, she is instantly suspicious. Sure, it may just be jealousy at first but when she begins to question Jane, she discovers that Jane may not be the person that she claims to be. This leads Sunny and Rayne on an adventure to Las Vegas where they investigate Jane, and in the process, discover much about her dad and his family. Sunny and Rayne definitely have their work cut out for them in Bad Blood.
Bad Blood is just the type of read I need after reading a heavy story. It is so light and hilarious! Sunny and Rayne always get themselves into trouble when they are together and I love it! Sure, some of the things they do are a bit unrealistic, but it somehow works for the storyline. They have such a strong bond with one another and even though they fight, they still come through for each other in the end.
Bad Blood isn't a phenomenal story, but it is funny, sweet, and enjoyable. I know what I am getting into when I start a book in the Blood Coven series! I don't have to over think anything and can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Don't miss out on Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven series! You won't regret giving the series a shot!
Since coincidence makes the world go round, a friend bought me the first three Blood Coven novels as a Christmas present a few weeks before I received BAD BLOOD. I'm happy that the series has been recovered, since the original covers were cute but lacked homogeniety. As for BAD BLOOD itself, I'm glad it focuses on Sunny rather than Rayne.
I'm not gonna lie; Rayne annoys me. I've always been a member of at least one subculture, but I have loyalties to a variety of groups. This usually leads to people claiming I'm not a real "_". And Rayne is one of those people. You've got to fit into her idea of what the subculture is, no deviations. And if you aren't a member, then you're contemptible. (She did get called out for it in GIRLS THAT GROWL, which makes me really happy.)
BAD BLOOD has my favorite book setting: Las Vegas. Sunny's boyfriend Magnus is required to blood a coruler, and Jane Johnson has been chosen. Now they have to go to a vamp convention in Vegas. But Sunny is suspicious of Jane, and takes the opportunity to visit her estranged father and his family. I enjoyed the family story and the mystery, but felt the romance was lacking.
The romance lacking, however, is a trend in the Blood Coven books. It got worse in GIRLS THAT GROWL and BAD BLOOD. The main couples treat each other badly, fight about it, then make up quickly in the end. I have trouble buying it. Instead of being a great love story, it feels like Mari Mancusi is afraid to break the characters up.
Once more, Mancusi ends with a reveal that sets up the next book. And yes, I will keep reading. The books are fun enough, but Mancusi (like almost all authors) has rough edges. Hers just tend to be the rough edges that rub me the wrong way.
Sunny and Rayne have finally got things back to normal - nearly , Rayne is a vampire vampire slayer and has a hot Vampire boyfriend Jareth and the perk is they can walk in the sun , Sunny is now back to normal as a mortal after her and Magnus found the cure to her vampire curse and she is now the girlfriend of Magnus who is the leader of the Blood Coven, all is set to be well and life back on track till it is discovered that Magnus has to take a new blood mate now that Sunny has been turned back to mortal. Enter Jane Johnson , looking like a model and a Rhodes scholar at that it seems that Sunny may be losing her Magnus. When jealousy strikes, Sunny and Rayne decide to do a bit of digging and it turns out that Jane isn't who she says she is and now Sunny and Rayne have a week to get Magnus and the rest of the Vampire world to see the truth before she is bitten and joined to Magnus for eternity. So Sunny and Rayne jump a plane to Las Vegas where the union is to take place , here they discover and meet their dad's new family Heather and her daughter Crystal and their half-sister - get ready for it ...... Stormy, this made me chuckle. We also get a surprise in this novel as it takes an unexpected turn as we discover the girls are also full-blooded fairies , I didn't think that this was going to work and I had my doubts about what it would flow like going from Vampires / Vampire Slayers / Werewolves and now Fairies but Mari Mancusi has written it perfectly and it definitely works. Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven Vampire series has something for everyone and if you wish to have fun and become a member of their coven head to http://www.bloodcovenvampires.com/ and create a membership :) Stay Tuned for Book #2 Stake That and Book #5 Night School.
This book 4 was my favorite out of the series yet. It's told from Sunny point of view. The girls head out to Vegas to prove Magnus is In danger by this new to be bloodmate and to see their dad. How does it all turn out? Do they see their dad and the family he left them for? Do they save Magnus and the blood coven? What a adventure in this book looking forward To getting into book 5.
What can I possibly say about this Blood Coven book besides you need to read the whole series!!! I originally read this book after meeting the author and buying her book at a convention. Then, over the course of two days, devoted the entire series that was currently out and begged for more. This particular book in the series definitely tests both of the sisters, and their relationships. I can't recommend this YA series enough, and my daughter loves them as well!!!
I received a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I was not crazy about this book to start off. I did not like how jealous Sunny became nor how dismissive Magnus was of her feelings. As the book progressed, I was able to get more into it as always because of how much I like Sunny and Rayne. The ending was fantastic and I can't wait to see what happens next
