Noelle was in somewhat of a pickle. She had researched the Calhoun firm―Elijah Calhoun in particular―before she made the appointment, but she was having second and third thoughts about hiring the firm after she got there. All her research indicated she could trust them, but big men scared the hell out of her, and the place was full of them.

Elijah had been running a tad late for work, so his brother Trent took his first appointment. Elijah never dreamed that the woman he had an appointment with was his future mate…and she needed his protection.

Noelle’s stepfather wasn’t their only problem. Elijah’s brother Sterling’s nightmares had gotten worse and somehow the creature that had marked him was controlling his actions as well…no one was safe….

With this book I understood the 3rd one (yes, I read the third one first). And with all 3 books I have read, I found the common theme : lazy men hungry for money and the side "dish" of the bad side : something magic.
This series wasn't just wolf/shifters but any beings and mixing it up with with magics of all sort.

As for this book, it was well a wolf meeting his mate, a mate with a past. Mating fast, loving fast. A mate being stronger. That would do for the love story and development.
But what I enjoyed was the plots the bad ones. So yeah that would do a 4 stars. Now that I am done with this one I have to wait for the fourth book and the rest of them since there are 6 sons. And maybe something good for Noah?

I am a big Kathi Barton fan... but I think I should take a break for a while... I felt let down by this book.... It feels as if they are lately all the same, just the names and places were different...

Sweet bejeebers, I think Kathi S. Barton's "Calhoun Men" series is one of the best ones I've read so far, and I've read quite a few. 'Elijah' is the second book in the series and it's spellbinding and quick-paced as Trent's story was. The story opens up by introducing us to a she-demon named Helenia. She is going to be the bane of Sterling's existence. But if you know anything about Ms. Barton's families, you know that if something affects one, it affects them all. If you've read the first book, then you'll remember that Trent sold his share of the partnership to Elijah. He still keeps an office there and helps out occasionally but for all intent purposes, Elijah runs the show now. On the morning of Noelle's appointment, Elijah was running late and luckily Trent was there to make the appointment for him. Several things come to light during this meeting. 1) Noelle won a multi-million dollar lottery almost six months ago and she needs to claim it before the ticket becomes null and void 2) She cannot have her name associated with the winnings because of her abusive family and 3) When Elijah arrives and meets Noelle he realizes she's his mate. Wolves, Vampires, Witches, and Demons abound in this storyline and it just gets more intense as we go along. Of course, it still has all the drama, crazy family members, and angst that comes with Ms. Barton's stories but it also has an abundance of love, family, and chemistry that ties it all together. Scott's story is next and I can't wait.

Elijah and Noelle as a couple are probably my favorite couple to date that Kathi has written.
Noelle has been neglected and abused by her step-father and brothers for years. Even after they left her behind at the age of 16, they still manage to find her and take what little money she earns from working. When she goes to Calhoun firm for help she's very nervous scared around so many large males. But she never expected the Calhoun she was suppose to have the appointment with would claim her as his mate!

**"Nothing will be wrong with you however it turns out. You are still my mate. We'll still be madly in love, and we'll have as much sex as we can until we kill each other."**

Elijah has to be one of the sweetest alpha males EVER! He understands Noelle and never pushes her into doing anything she doesn't want to do. But he will do whatever it takes to protect her from her step-father who still feels Noelle should be supporting him since he claims she's the reason he lost his job.

**"I'm not even sure what it is, but this feeling that I have for you, even though it's only been a short time, is powerful. And I feel safe with you. All of your family really, but you mostly."**

One thing that never seems to get old in Kathi's books is her humor. Some characters in the story are so old they don't understand modern lingo, or they are like the mother in this book and will do what's necessary to make her sons see they can do whatever they can as long as they believe they can.

**She had no idea what a selfie was, but decided that she'd make him create one with her just to prove Noah wrong.**

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**

Its been 5 years since we last visited the Calhoun family and they have been busy trying to revitalize the town and being in jobs. Noelle needs help, she has researched the family firm and knows Elijah is the one to help her. Walking in to the office and finding a bunch of large men brings her fears to the surface does she have the courage to ask for what she needs or should she turn around and run. Elijah is running late and is unprepared for the woman in his office. She brings out his protective instincts and he wants to hurt whoever has harmed his mate. There is really more then one storyline going on in this tale. First we have Noelle and Elijah, they need to work through her fear and protect her from her family. The second is about Sterling and the she devil. She is still out there and she is coming for Sterling. While the two stories are intertwined they really are focused on the growth of Noelle and Sterling individually. Noelle was a meek character that grew stronger as she got more comfortable with the love and support of her new family. It let her shine showcasing her keen intelligence and business sense. Sterling was just the opposite, He was once a strong character and now he is beaten down and without hope. Sterling needed Noelle to show him how to live again and be the person he was once before. So in a sense we had two separate stories woven together to create one great storyline that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next.
I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Noelle has a secret. One that she knows will make her stepfamily come after her, which happens a lot. But this secret has the potential for some deadly consequences.

Knowing she needs help, she makes an appointment to meet with Elijah so she can retain her anonymity. Upon meeting him, they both know their lives are forever changed.

Can Elijah help Noelle stay safe? Will her stepfamily get what they deserve? What about Sterling, Elijah's brother? A threat from his past, that impacts the whole family, is back. Can it be defeated? Do Elijah and Noelle get their HEA? What other changes are happening for the Calhoun family? What brother will find love next?

What a book!

It was easy to read and follow. I loved the romance connection that the two main characters had and their trust that they had built up from the start.

Noelle had a rough start to life but went to the Calhoun firm for advice and help with her secret but she was not looking to find her soul mate, which she ended up finding in Elijah.
Elijah Calhoun is a big shot in the business world. He wasn't looking to settle down just yet but as soon as he walked into his office his world was turned upside down.

This story included insight to others characters which I wished there was more to the book but I have to wait for the next story to come out which I can't wait to have.

What a truly unique and creative book this was to read!

This particular story is tied to the first book and it truly took me on a rollercoaster ride that has twists and turns that will leave your head spinning! But it also includes all the characters and the extraordinary trials that they go through together and shifter men are hot and love their mates and treat them like the goddesses that they are to them!! Get this particular series and storyline and you'll never get tired of reading about these amazing and unique characters!!!

Good Wins!

Noelle likes to play the lottery; she mostly does the scratching off kind but sometimes does the Powerball. She hit the big one on the Powerball & that's what brings her into Elijah's life.

There's more to her story but, you'll have to read the book to find out what that is.

This book was very good as it has a good vs bad plot with a she-devil in it; this books also had some descriptive sex scenes. The story of Elijah's mating with Noelle also includes some of the family members that were in the previous book as well as some new friends. I will be reading the next book in this series.

Elijah Calhoun and his brothers help people in trouble. Noelle was in trouble from her stepfather and stepbrothers. She wants to hire the Calhoun firm but is having second and third thoughts about doing so. Elijah was surprised to find out the she was his mate. Will he be able to protect her from her family and also help protect his brother Sterling from Helenia?

Another great read by Kathi S. Barton and I would recommend this as a must read to everyone

OMG, This was just what the doctor ordered. I could not put this book down, once I started reading I forgot about everything else that was going on. It moved along at a great pace, has amazing characters that you cannot get enough of and a story that will not let you down. This book has to be read, no doubt about it.

Fantastic

I really enjoyed reading this book. Elijah and Noelle made a great couple. I liked how Sterling's situation was handled and loved how characters from the Bentley series made an appearance. I did think the situation with Sterling overrode Noelle's situation with her family, but that ended up being played out well. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

This is okay. It was somewhat hard to follow and some of the writing was a little annoying. They way the different paras came together was interesting. Definitely not for teens.
