'LEARN TO SALSA DANCE,' the card in the shop window read. 'Experience the red-hot vibes of Latin America right here in the Lake District. Beginners and singles welcome.'

Lauren Scott lives in 'The most romantic place in Britain', but her love life is about as successful as her mountain climbing skills. The man she's obsessed over for two years has proposed to someone else - and her only solution is to save up for six months to go travelling, so she never has to set eyes on him again.

But when her friends sign her up for a dance class - in the same historic hotel where her beloved dad worked and her most precious childhood memories were formed - Lauren makes a horrifying discovery. It's been sold to a faceless budget chain, which has depressing plans in store. Worse, the entrepreneur behind it all turns out to be among a group of guys her friend Cate roped in to join the very same salsa class they've signed up for....

Jane Costello's funniest book yet - a story of love, friendship and some serious hip action . . . Get in the mood to mambo!

What you need to know about this novel:

- Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is Jane Costello's 9th chick-lit novel.
- It is a standalone, written in 1st person, narrated by a woman called Lauren (who was such an entertaining narrator).
- The story is taking place in Lake District, „The most romantic place in Britain“.
- This isn't just a funny chick-lit that will only make you laugh and swoon. It will also make you think about life and how much effect other people's actions can have
- This book was my most anticipated this years' release.
- It is said that this novel is Costello's funniest work so far and, although I think it was pretty funny, I think Time of Our Lives was funnier.

What you should be warned about:

- Once you start to read this book, there's a great chance you wouldn't want to stop, so I suggest you to pick it when it's weekend.
- It might make you want to join a salsa or similar club in your area.

What I liked about this book:

- Characters were very likeable and they weren't all black and white, but had some butter on their heads what made them realistic.
- Lauren's love interest, Edwin, is not well-looking guy and in the sea of chick-lits where most guys are hot, dark and mysterious, it was a nice change
- I loved how every character in this book had their purpose when it comes to story development. Even those side characters that you wouldn't pay much attention to were in the story for a reason.
- Reading this book was pure fun and exactly what I wanted for it to be.

What I'd change in this piece of work:

- Nothing really, I think this novel is perfect as it is.

Wait!

- Actually, there is one thing that I would change when it comes to my paperback edition: I wish it didn't have that sticker on it's cover, but it is what it is!

Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is a heart-warming, hilarious and a delightful read.

Lauren is a character that's very realistic and witty. She's thoroughly enjoyable to read about. This is my second read by Jane Costello and she creates very relatable and flawed characters that seem very real. All the supporting characters are very interesting to read about as well and they all play an important part in the story.

Lauren joins Salsa with her best friends Cate and Emily, which obviously makes me want to join a dance class too. Salsa classes are held in Moonlight Hotel which has sentimental value for Lauren as her father used to work there when she was little. They befriend the Salsa group there and learn that the hotel is going through a major change over which Lauren doesn't want it to but has no control over.

Lauren has feelings for one of her colleagues from where she teaches and how those feelings become conflicting and things and relationships become complicated is very predictable but in a good way. Cate and Emily also meet the new men in their lives and how it unravels the twist at the end is amazing.

What I really want from life now is to obviously join a dance class and go live in the mountains.

Super cute chick-lit story. Predictable in a comforting way. This book is funny, light hearted and fun.

AND good for me as it's set in Windermere where I went on holiday this year - bonus!

I really wanted to like this book. I really did. But oh Lord, what have I just read?

I cannot begin to explain how disappointing the whole storyline was. The three friends, Lauren, Cate and Emily were ridiculous, to tell you the truth.

SPOILER ALERT:

They go to a salsa class together, and then two gorgeous guys walk in and they are immediately paired with two of the girls (Emily and Cate). Lauren does not care to be paired with anyone because she is in love with Edwin and has been in love with him for the past two years, but perfect Edwin is engaged to Fiona.

Then Edwin tells Lauren that he broke it off with Fiona after two years of engagement, and Lauren thinks she now has a shot at romance with him. Except Edwin is the most boring, unattractive character I've ever read about. He is the weirdest guy, sending out the most awkward vibes. Not only does he string Lauren along with him, without making any moves, having her make all the moves instead. BUT, he also urges her to move to Singapore with him! Just like that! On a whim! And stupid, silly Lauren, actually begins applying for jobs at Singapore! REALLY? She barely knows this guy, she thinks she's madly in love with him, he's made 0 moves on her, and she's ready to move countries to be with him?! Oh and not just move countries, but skip on her entire dream to visit Australia, which she's been saving for the past 5 years to move to Singapore instead. Ridiculous.

Then there's Cate and the whole revenge porn thing. Her ex-boyfriend Robby starts leaking intimate and nude photos of her to the world basically, destroying her life and breaking her spirit. She refuses to go to the police because her boyfriend's brother works in the force or some stupid reason like that. I mean, really...those girls and their priorities, huh?

Finally, the crème de la crème, Emily. Sweet, perfect, beautiful Emily, who according to Lauren is the NICEST person on the planet and who is apparently dating gorgeous Joe from salsa class. When Lauren begins to have feelings for this guy, she is riddled with guilt because he is her friend's boyfriend. This friend knows that this guy (Joe) likes her friend (Lauren), and she can tell that there's chemistry between them when they dance and stuff, yet...she chooses not to inform any of her friends that they're not actually dating. EVEN when she gets pregnant and confides in Lauren about her pregnancy, she lets her go on assuming it is Joe's baby, when in fact it turns out to be someone else's completely! What kind of friend is that? How close can you actually be, if you cannot even tell your friends, yeah, by the way, there's nothing there between me and Joe, so we're just friends who hike together or whatever.

I just don't understand that little twist there, because let me tell you, it was SO OBVIOUS from the start that there was nothing between her and Joe. I just don't understand why Emily would feel the need to make them believe that there was. She's gorgeous and beautiful and can have any guy she wants, and she DID. She almost broke up a marriage to get the guy she wants. So why wouldn't it come up in any random conversation that she's actually not seeing Joe? Especially if you could tell that he was actually interested in your friend?! I really don't get it. It makes no sense to me, except that you are selfish and completely self-absorbed.

The worst for me though, was to find out she was carrying the baby of a married man, and how she didn't give a shit what that does to his family and his kid, Tommy. Her attitude towards the whole thing was horrible, and the only reason she ended up breaking it off was because she learned that he had given his wife a diamond ring to make amends. Yeah. THAT's why you should break it off...bitch.

I hated Emily so much and had 0 respect for her. And Lauren was a silly girl, who is easily strung along by men. I mean, it kind of gets old after a while, that whole thing where everything wrong that can possibly happen, happens to this girl. Zits and tripping over herself and forgetting to finish her tan and falling off some chair and getting hit by a ball and getting caught with no pants in the rain and getting stuck in a car in an awkward position and eating disgusting food with hair in it to please the guy you like and having it get stuck in your teeth and getting wasted and sleeping with a guy and not remembering any of it and and and and and and and...the list goes on. Everything that could've possible gone wrong for Lauren, went wrong. And Cate? Cate is a wimp who cares more about what some guy is going to think of her, than putting a stop to the whole thing from the beginning.

Very disappointing set of characters. The only one I could tolerate was Joe, who was reasonable, sweet, nice and decent. He should've finished his work at the Moonlight Hotel and got the HELL out of there.

What a lovely read! I really enjoyed following Lauren, Cate and Emily through this story. Lauren was a bit dippy at times, but I think love and ‘doing the right thing’ often makes you like that! A lovely story with likeable characters and a happy ending, a perfect summer read!

Jane Costello has been one of my favourite authors, ever since I read The-Nearly Weds. She's now written nine books (next year will be her tenth, which is insane to think of) and I've read and loved most of them, and the few I've still got to read, I'm sure will be amazing. Her latest is this one, Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel, and it's a wonderful read. One thing you can always rely on from a Jane Costello novel, is the romance, the laughs, and the quick, quick pace that keeps you flipping the pages. OK, that was more like three things, not one thing, but they're always a guarantee in Jane's books and that's what make her such a great writer.

I love lasses in books you feel like you can be friends with. Jane writes her female characters so well, you really do want to be friends with them, and Lauren is no exception, nor are her friends Emily and Cate. But I will say that, throughout the novel, their friendship is more that pushed to the limit by one thing or another, and the crises the girls go through could fill a whole series of books, and they mostly made me feel sad, especially what happens to poor Cate. I wouldn't even wish that on my worst enemy, if I had one, it's THAT awful. But Lauren was amazing, I love that she was a school teacher, and a school teacher who genuinely loved the kids she taught, it was amazing. And I loved the salsa classes, I have no rhythm, and two left feet, but I love to hear about dancing and the salsa classes sounded like so much fun!

There weren't many negatives in the novel. I do admit to being a tad annoyed at Lauren. She harps on, and on, and on, and on, and on some more about Edwin, and it was the least satisfying thing, ever. I mean he's called EDWIN for the love of Paul Hollywood. It would be sacrilege for a book to end with the lass going with a lad called Edwin. That is just not a hot name. Joe, on the other hand... I liked Joe. Joe is a good name. I loved Joe, let's be honest. Sigh. A man who can salsa dance - lovely.

I really enjoyed Summer at the Moonlight Hotel. It was a quick, fast-paced read, with typical Jane Costello humour and pop culture marks aplenty. Kudos to getting the Duncan from Blue line in, I love blasts from the past like that, although I preferred Lee, to be honest. Jane is such a good writer, reading her books are always such a pleasure and I wish she'd write quicker, because I'm already anxious for book ten. And one last thing, the setting was amazing. It's set in the Lakes, which sounds like an utterly amazing place to live!

I didn't have any expectations about "Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel" and picked this book from my tbr pile for a challenge.
The book was a positive surprise and I found myself quite entertained by the story.

Lauren loves the Moonlight Hotel since her father was working at the hotel during her childhood. When she finds about during a dance class at the hotel, that the hotel will get new owners and a refurbishment, she is not happy.

Soon lots of things are happening and getting mixed up with each other, what I found quite entertaining. Some things were a bit too much and over the top but overall the story was quite enjoyable.

The setting with the hotel and the small English town were also quite nice.

A couple of twists towards the end I did not see coming, always makes an entertaining read when that happens. I adore Joe and Will, and the three girl friends Lauren, Cate and Emily are entertaining and strong characters. Highly recommended

Is it just me or are Jane Costello's books getting better and better with every new release? I mean, I have always loved her stories, they guarantee romance, lovable characters and lots of laughs but with every new book we get a bit more. I especially enjoyed her previous one, The Love Shack, as it was about so much more that a love story. But I think Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel might be even better.

During the first half of the story I was laughing non-stop. Lauren is such a charming character. She is prone to awkward situations and basically making a fool of herself, but you can't help loving her. Her love interest, Edwin, seems quite a nice guy, smart, great with kids and all in all a good guy. Shame he is taken. So Lauren's idea to save up for a while to be able to travel to Australia where her father was from and live her life a little seems like quite a good idea. But soon things start to get complicated. Edwin is leaving to work in Singapore and has actually asked Lauren to go with him!

But this is not the only dilemma going on in Lauren's life. When she takes up Salsa dancing with her best girlfriends, Emily and Cat, the last thing Lauren expects is one, Salsa is actually fun, and two, her beloved Moonlight Hotel, where the lessons take place, is being sold to some company who has no idea of the sentimental meaning it has for the community and Lauren herself. So she is ready to fight for it with all her heart... until she discovers the new owner is actually one of her new Salsa buddies, quite a gorgeous one for that.

As the story unfolds, it starts getting more serious as Lauren and her friends have to fight quite some fronts. Both Emily and Cate have their own stories and I ended up caring a lot for them too, especially Cate, who goes through a rough and really unfair patch. I was rooting for them until the end and it was hard to say good-bye. I am sure I'm going to miss them.

For me, Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is Jane Costello's best book so far. It completely captured my heart and I think there wasn't a thing I didn't love. It is equally hilarious and fun as it is warm and moving. Highly recommended to enjoy during a warm summer night and dust off your dancing shoes, I'm sure you'll want to try Salsa after this read!

Been a while since I read one of Janes books but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A perfect setting - loved this history of the hotel. Lots of different storylines going on - some happy and some not so happy. The book did leave me wanting more - a sequel perhaps??

Jane Costello has done it again. Her books make me smile, laugh, sometimes tear up a bit and always leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy at the end. She never fails to disappoint and she is one of a few authors whose books I keep and collect.
This is a great story about a woman trying to keep the spirit of her father alive, through her memories of times spent with him at the Moonlight Hotel. When the hotel is due for major renovations she is heartbroken at the thought of losing those memories. Little does she know that someone is looking out for her and really wants to help her keep those memories very much alive.
A beautiful and heartwarming story.

The Moonlight Hotel, situated on the shore of Lake Windermere is one of Lauren's favourite places in the word. However when its taken over by a new developer it looks like change is on the way. For the time being at least though Lauren and her best friends, Cate and Emily, are able to enjoy the Moonlight Hotel as it is for just a while longer as they take up salsa lessons, meeting some new faces along the way. At the same time it looks as though the man Lauren has been hopelessly pining over for the last two years might finally be showing an interest in her after the breakdown of his long term relationship. However, feelings and events are about to get a lot more complicated, Lauren really having to question just what it is that will make her happy, or rather who.

Another light and easy read from Costello. I personally love the Lakes, and as such the setting for this story, with so many familiar landmarks, was a joy. The story itself gets off to a quick start, with lots of little sub-plots throughout such that there is always plenty happening. Lauren is the central character, though her friends Cate and Emily have their own side-plots too; Cate's story in particular I thought was very relevant and highlighted an unpleasant subject but one that is unfortunately on the rise.

Costello touches on topics that are a little more poignant I thought than in her previous books; however, as always there is plenty of humour. Lauren as the central character is easy to like, the supporting cast generally all well drawn too. It was quite obvious from early on who Lauren should end up with, however, for the first half of the book at least she is very much fixated on Edwin, a colleague who she has had a crush on for the best part of two years. Their exchanges were actually very funny, and even though he wasn't perfect I did like Edwin; though I did struggle to always understand his feelings towards Lauren. Her relationship with Joe by contrast is a slow-burning one, Lauren taking much longer than the reader to appreciate her feelings for him; however, even once she does, there are enough misunderstandings and obstacles to overcome to keep readers guessing if and how it will all work out.

Overall an entertaining if undemanding read, perfect for the holidays.

Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is a fun filled feel good read.

I have to say being a big fan of programmes like Grand Designs and Homes Under the Hammer, I devoured every mention of the restoration and decorating of the hotel itself and had the most wonderful visions in my head from the descriptions in the book. Even though the hotel is owned by one of Lauren’s friends love interest, it has a special bless in Lauren’s heart as it has a connection to her dad.

Lauren is a single female who seems to be going through some sort of mid life crisis. She doesn’t seem to really know what she wants and seems desperate to make something of her life and settle down. She seems to make a lot of rash decisions including leaving her job in a primary school to travel to nearly the other side of the world. I actually wanted to give her a good shake to make her realise that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and to realise what she was about to give up.

One thing about Lauren though is that she a truly great friend. She goes above and beyond the call of duty to her friends, even giving up on her own dreams to make sure they are okay. Her poor friends all seem to going through a bit of a rough patch and Lauren has her work cut out trying to sort her own life out as well as her friends.

Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is a novel very much about friendships, relationships and romance. Even though the author addresses some difficult and current issues, she does it in a way that makes this still a heart warming and light hearted reading experience. Really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of the authors books.

This was my first Jane Costello book. If you are a Sophie Kinsella fan just like I am and are done with all her books and wondering what to read next, well this author is the answer to your question !

Its a book which gives you an outlook about the variations of feelings that a person goes through. Silly decisions that we take when we are supposedly in love. Also there are bits about cyber crime which is also a very important and pertinent issue at the moment.

All in all its a good book if you are a fan of chick lit/ romantic comedy genre.

THE SUNDAY TIMES TOP TEN BESTSELLING AUTHOR Learn to dance at The Moonlight Hotel, in the most romantic place in Britain ...Beginners and singles welcome. The Moonlight Hotel sits on the shore of England's best-loved lake, Windermere, exuding vintage glamour. Lauren loves the hotel, for hidden inside its faded walls is the key to her most precious memories. So, along with her best friends, Cate and Emily, she signs up to a new dance class in its gorgeous ballroom. They aren't going for the men, they're going for a laugh - although a little romance wouldn't hurt ...But then a chain of events off the dance floor puts their friendship to the ultimate test, and makes Lauren question everything she holds dear.

My Review

Welcome to The Moonlight Hotel a well loved and age old part of Lauren's life and the town's history. Her and pals Cate and Emily find themselves in there learning Salsa. They need a break, Lauren is still in love with her colleague who doesn't seem to know she exists, Cate's ex can't seem to get it that they are over and Emily is up for a laugh and if they find a man - bonus. As the lessons progress they all find their love lives taking a turn that impacts on their friendship and is someone threatening the existence of their beloved hotel?

With short chapters and a focus on friendship, dating, some disasters and laugh out loud moments the book is chick lit but has some deeper themes touched upon. Lauren irritated me at times, everything focused around her "crush" the guy she has longed for or rather lusted over for a few years and makes some very questionable calls. Loyalty is called into question but then we see other sides of her character, I flipped back and forth a few times.

Romance, friendship - some very cringe moments that you can't help but chuckle at. Perfect for poolside reading or if you just want to zone out and tune into someone else's life/disasters for a wee bit. Perfect for a wee bit of escapism but keeping in mind there are a few deeper issues that may spark emotion for some readers, tad vague I know but I don't do spoilers. 3.5/5 for met this time, can't remember if I have read Costello before but I would read her again.

A new Jane Costello book is each time a real treat for me. I've read all of her novels and loved them all, and I can't imagine that one day this author may stop writing - no way! Please, keep them coming, Jane! This time, I had a feeling that this time the book is more serious in tone, and to be honest, I missed this energetic enthusiasm and infectious Jane Costello's humour. Don't get me wrong, there were moments that I laughed, but altogether the book was more serious in tone, and I'm thinking that with every book Ms Costello's writing is maturing and that she tries her touch at some important and difficult issues. It doesn't mean that I didn't like this book - on the contrary, I adored it, it's only that I missed a little of this total airiness of the characters. With every new novel Jane's characters are older, more mature, and they behave accordingly, and it's absolutely okay. This time the author put our heroines up to plenty of really difficult decisions to be made and doesn't spare them troubles - but I find it really challenging and I am happy that Jane Costello tries herself with this difficult task, as I guess it isn't too easy to write.

The characters are, as always, so brilliantly drawn and developed and I felt so good in their company just from the very beginning. Lauren was great: there are two things that she loves with all her heart and these are the Moonlight Hotel and her work's colleague, Edwin, but both are either taken away from her (Moonlight Hotel has just been sold and it looks like the new owner want to re - decorate it totally, not only inside but also outside, and Lauren can't stand it, as she has so many memories with the hotel) or just unavailable, as Edwin is engaged. But when Edwin suddenly announces he has broken up with his fiancée, Lauren decides to take things in her own hand, and I am not going to tell you what exactly she does to persuade Edwin that she's The One he's looking for, but some of the scenes made me cry with laughter. Lauren often puts herself in many embarrassing situations, she's loyal and she's willing to forgo her own dream to help her friend. She's simply one of the loveliest characters that read about, she's full of warmth, she makes mistakes, she always thinks about the best one - liner when it's too late and she adores her job - she's a teacher, just like I am, and she has a nig heart for her pupils.
Now, from the beginning I couldn't believe what Lauren sees in Edwin - and I'm not going to say anything more as I don't want to spoil the book for you, but I was like. OMG! Lauren! Really? Edwin was this kind of character that made you want to take something very hard and hit him repeatedly on his head. Nevertheless, plenty of situations with Edwin had made me laugh cynically.

This book is a relatively slow read, and I mean the pace here. Sure, there are things happening, but on the whole the tempo is more unhurried and nevertheless, it sits with this story. The first half or so of it was more on the light side and even though Lauren had some dilemmas, I often found myself laughing out loud. Whereas the more we get into the book, the more serious the story unfolds and Lauren and her friends have tough nuts to crack. The stories of Emily and Cat were sometimes heartbreaking and incredibly sad, and I found myself rooting for them all, especially Cat, as this what happened to her was so unfair and she could do nothing, and I hated to watch her so defenceless and hopeless. I truly admired the great friendship between Lauren, Emily and Cat.

I must admit that I expected this book to resolve around Moonlight Hotel much more, as the synopsis signalized, but the Hotel is in fact only a background in this story - it's significant, but not as much, though at the end it really plays a big role for Lauren. So yes, it took me a little by surprise, the way it took on, especially as we got deeper and deeper into the book, and the author started to throw twists and turns and surprises at our poor heads, and not the likes that we would say are the nice surprises.

Even though the story also explores some more serious issues, and the author points at the dangers the social media are, it still is a feel - good read. It is a perfect mix of humour and emotions, a novel filled with lovely characters that we fell for and we keep our fingers crossed for them. And even with all those changes, with this grown - up feeling, "The Summer Night at Moonlight Hotel" was a heart - warming, engaging, hooking book that I didn't want to put down - so everything's OK :), just like Jane Costello has got me used to. There is this Ms Costello's trademark humour that I so love, and adding the more serious issues only made the book feel much more realistic. I really didn't want this story to end - I'm sure you know this feeling when you want to read the book as quickly as possible to see how it's going to end but on the other hand you don't WANT it to end. Yes, it was like this with this novel. Highly recommended!

Ever year I look forward to getting my hands on another of Jane Costello's books and every year I am so excited when its arrives because I know I will spend a few happy hours immerse in Jane's uniquely witty/ hilarious writing world.

This year I had the pleasure of visiting The Moonlight Hotel set in a tranquil and pictures area of Lake Windemere. There I found a story about one young teacher called Lauren Scott who has been smitten (unfortunately, I would say!) with her colleague Edwin for some time now and it seemed she has developed an unhealthy obsession with Edwin and put him on a love pedestal. While Lauren pines of the man of her dreams she is also a devoted friend to Cate and Emily. The three girls are great friends, supporting each other in happy and hard times.

Lauren, Cate, and Emily join a sizzling class of salsa dancing at the Moonlight Hotel, and they all get to know a fabulous gang of people who also came to learn to dance for all sorts of various reasons.
The Moonlight Hotel holds so many precious and personal memories for Lauren and when she discovers that one of her salsa chums Joe, is the new owner of the slightly derelict hotel she is horrified what that means for the future of the hotel.

As with every of Jane's books, we get to experience a funny side of the story as well as a more serious side. I literary laugh my socks off on every second page as Lauren gets herself into quite a few hilarious situations, but I also got slightly frustrated with Lauren's obsession with Edwin because I could clearly see that Edwin was very slow in reciprocating some of Lauren's advances, and maybe he was just not into her. But there is someone who can't take their eyes of Lauren, and when Lauren wakes up from her Edwin induced coma she discovers there is more to Mr. Joe that meets the eye! I also could not believe how Cate coped with her horrid situations and what it took for her to finally deal with her ex-boyfriends Robby (I am still shaking with fury here)!

The Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel definitely gets my 5 sparkly words from me. The book is engaging peppers with witty/ hilarious dialogs. It has a fantastic bunch of complex characters that live in a tranquil setting, and it covers up-to-date topics!

I am highly recommending this book!

We first meet the three friends on their way to The Moonlight Hotel for the first salsa night. There's only another couple there but two men turn up who although are in the wrong place, join in with the lesson. Will and Joe become regulars at the salsa night and one of them provides plenty of conflict and misunderstandings.

There are laugh out loud moments from the beginning. Lauren out on her early morning run had me curled up in pain (so much laughter). She's a primary school teacher and has a crush on colleague Edwin. I must admit I didn't really understand why as I found his character rather boring and predictable however Lauren does bring moments of laughter when she's with him. I identified with how she felt about Tom in her class and was as surprised as she was when one of the truths are revealed (not that it wasn't who we are led to believe it is as I had guessed ... but because of who it actually is). The playground and parents evening provide more laughter.

As well as the laughter there are moments of despair. Lauren questions herself as a friend; Cate's ex Robby causes so much sadness and humiliation; Emily makes choices that leave her in a dilemma. There's sexual tension too from the salsa lessons - sizzling :) Underlying it all is of course The Moonlight Hotel and what the future holds moving forward.

I'm the first one to put my hand up and say I enjoy figurative language in a story but for the first part of Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel there were lots of analogies and brand names. I did find this off putting and it halted the flow of the story for me. I found myself scanning over them. However, once the story really got started, they disappeared and it was much easier to connect with Lauren, Cate and Emily. I became involved with their lives for those all important 'feels.'

Jane Costello is still sprinkling her magic. If you're looking for a romance read that will provide escapism and enjoyment, this is one for you.

I would like to thank the publishers for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel combines humour and fun with romance to create a really enjoyable novel that, I feel, sits squarely in the 'women's fiction' genre.

The story itself is fairly predictable and had quite a few clichés in there; from a few chapters in I had an idea of various elements but there were definitely some surprises in there too! The characters are all convincing and interesting to read about- I really like Lauren, despite feeling that some of her decisions were fairly questionable. She's a loveable, slightly bumbling woman who seems very caring and a great friend- just perhaps a bit confused at times! I really felt for her friend Cate and the situation she went through, which also brought attention to the perils of today's 'instant share' culture. I wasn't aas keen on Emily (for reasons I won't reveal here otherwise I'll give too much away), but she seems good fun and coompletes a trio of funny, down to earth women that I would have happily read more about.

I have to say, despite being able to guess what was coming a mile off at some points, this novel really made me laugh, and I laughed out loud at various points (and got some strange looks too)! Lauren is a teacher and I loved reading about her experiences with the school kids- there were some hugely funny bits where, despite having no kids myself, I thought to myself: "I can imagine them saying that" or "I can picture myself wondering how to answer that, just like Lauren"!

Summer Nights at the Moonlight Hotel is very uplifting and, although it covers some more serious topics and themes, it still leaves you with a warm and fuzzy feeling at the end- which is what I expect (and really enjoy) about Jane Costello's novels! If you love your chick-lit or just fancy a light-hearted, fun read then I'd definitely recommend this novel.

Rating: 3.5/5 (bumped to 4/5)

** Many thanks to the publisher for providing a copy of this novel in return for an honest review **

Review: Such a compelling read, right from the word go. The book was particularly exciting for me because it is set in the lake district and a lot of it takes place in Ambleside, a town I have been visiting since before I was born! The descriptions of the countryside, the atmosphere and the general feel of the lake district were all spot on and i was really able to picture where the characters were at each and every point. The language Jane Costello uses is lovely, including some seriously imaginative similes, and she has obviously researched this are well (i'm sure she had fun doing so too!).

I really warmed to the characters straight away too, particularly Lauren. She is a primary school teacher and so I suppose this helps me have something in common with her, but she also has aspirations and dreams whilst at the same time having some fairly conservative views on how things should be done. I love her passion, he sense of right and wrong and the way she looks out for her friends. Her friends are fabulous characters in themselves. Emily and Cate were also very likable and Joe and Will play excellent men to ogle and drool over throughout the book! Lauren's family and the dance 'crew' also play some lovely roles in this novel-lots of comedy moments there!

The story line itself is full of more twists and turns than the waltzers! Lauren and her friends are really put through the ringer in this novel, just when you think nothing else can happen, it does! And some of the things that occur are seriously out of this world! I was entertained through the entirety of this novel, laughing out loud on an aeroplane and gasping to myself in my back garden. This books has it all, friendship, drama, romance and teachers! Pus it's all set in the beautiful backdrop of the wonderful lake district! I love Jane Costello but even if you haven't read anything by this fabulously funny author before, you're sure to enjoy this one!

Lauren and her friend Cate have lived in the Lake District forever. Lauren's a Primary School teacher, Cate owns a flower shop and their friend, Emily is a mountain leader ("basically Bear Grylls but with nicer hair!").

When they learn that the Moonlight Hotel is starting salsa classes they all decide to sign up to learn to dance, make new friends and have some fun.

Lauren's fond memories of the Moonlight Hotel go far back to her childhood when her father was the General Manager there and she loved how grand and romantic it was. It's the backdrop to her most precious memories.

But when the new owners want to overhaul the hotel and bring it into the 21st century Lauren is devastated and even the handsome new owner can't persuade her that it's a good idea. When her friend Emily becomes smitten with him Lauren is happy for her but she thinks he can't be trusted. Then, to make her life even worse, her unrequited love, Edwin, is moving to Singapore in a few months. How will she cope?

This is a light-hearted read in parts, I was chuckling at some of their efforts to salsa, I loved the descriptions of some of the dance moves "the cuddle left turn", "ladies' right turn, back-to-back and reverse wrap"!

There are some misunderstandings, some laughs, romance, friendships, holidays, twists, but the storyline also deals with a serious issue of today which I felt was handled sensitively and was very well-written.

Charming and full of drama, get ready to put on your dancing shoes and strut your stuff! I think Jane Costello fans will love it!

Now then, I wanted to read this as I love Jane Costello and that cover just screamed out to me! Did I want to spend time on Lake Windermere and spend time with Lauren Cate and Emily as they go dancing in the stunning ballroom lit with moonlight? Yes I did!

I loved how the hotel held a special place in Lauren’s heart as she used to spend time there with her dad when he worked there. Having such a close connection to a place - not just the bricks and mortar but the real connection to a place really struck a chord with me and I thought this a lovely way to write about a setting in a story - one strong in female friendships and emotions.

The title sounds like a song - a slow and atmospheric theme with crescendos of banter and emotional melodies before the trickle of the story slowly draws to a literary cadenza.

I might need to start thinking about the real benefits of a salsa class... Delightful!
