Book of Soyga

Rate this book
The Book of Soyga, also titled Aldaraia, is a 16th-century Latin treatise on magic, one copy of which is known to have been possessed by the Elizabethan scholar John Dee. After Dee's death, the book was thought to be lost until 1994 when two manuscripts were located in the British Library (Sloane MS. 8) and the Bodleian Library (Bodley MS. 908), under the title Aldaraia sive Soyga vocor, by Dee scholar Deborah Harkness. The Sloane 8 version is also described as Tractatus Astrologico Magicus, though both versions differ only slightly.

This sounds corny as hell but I legit got chills when you brought up the alternate universe thing. I don't believe in a lot of stuff but something about that kinda strikes a cord with me...I dunno. It's like we make all these choices and there are so many little invariable aspects of our lives that result in being the exact person we are and there's always this question of "What if this had happened." Cause and effect stuff fascinates me and the idea that there's another reality out there where something, different happened, a different choice was made. Like maybe back in 1786 or something someone blinked at the wrong time and that led to them getting a bit of dust in their eye and they stopped and got hit by a falling tree or I dunno, anything and the sequence of events just snowballed until you've got like three hundred thousand people that are different from the ones we have in our universe because that one common ancestor that those three hundred thousand have is gone and it's just...there's infinite possibilities of what could happen and honestly thinking about this kinda stuff is the only thing that really gives me any kind of understanding one the word "infinity" and it just blow my freakin mind this stuff.....
But it's likely all nonsense.

One thing I 100% believe though is that there's no way on earth that anyone managed this without some kind of machine. We've have the same level of inelegance for a very VERY long time and I just find it very unlikely that we've only NOW invented computers. Ancient societies, I believe, had technology far more advanced that what we think they had.
