What side of the war are you on in the magical city of Gateway?

Gateway: The Book of Wizards by Sean Murray is a book about Gateway…but more on the city itself.

Gateway has a complicated history with its legacy of wizards, invasions, magical accidents, and other incursions…

But now Gateway is a city on edge…with strict government control of magic use and a focus on technology…and the stories of heroes of the past and the resistance trying to overthrow the wicked chancellor…

The majority of the book covers the legendary wizards of the past (gone but possibly to return), resistance groups of wizards (some that have been more fortunately than others), remaining wizard orders (operating under the chancellor’s watch and seemingly able to thrive), and other assorted magic and magic adjacent groups…

There done crazy art, as well as maps you can use to coordinate with some of the lore pieces…

I bought this at dragoncon last year and it seems necessary I might use some elements in my Spelljammer game…

Fun stuff…

Honestly, this has to become a full fledged novel series or tabletop game! I love the different city districts to this giant country of Gateway. It tells the tales of famous (now infamous) wizards, witches, vampires, and oracles now persecuted if they don't restrain and practice limited magic designated by their government. Told from the records of an anonymous wizard/witch. Poslo Kreen, Ramus, Kristinna is that you? It has this strong political strife feeling to it with a potentially crazed Chancellor Gideon (okay that name is already a red flag for me) claiming godliness over all. Governing by council is now becoming a dictatorship here. A once thriving city now being restrained in very draconian grasp. I want to know more about the key players like Bethan Chandary, Count Olek, Kristinna Moraegh, Ramus, and Commander Davidius Koffman.
