Wilde Creek #5

The Scarred Heart

Rate this book
Kammie Townsend has always kept to herself. She doesn’t want anyone to see the scars of her childhood, left behind by her abusive uncle. Everything changes for her on the night of the full moon, when she follows a reindeer and gets tackled by a bear shifter. He says they’re mates, but even though he’s the sexiest male she’s ever met, Kammie knows that once he sees the evidence of her painful history he won’t want anything to do with her.

Row Grayson has lived a hard life, fighting in tournaments for the amusement of the kings of neighboring bear sleuths. The only bright spots are his mother and his adopted sister, who is a reindeer shifter. On the way to take Dani to her people, she suddenly takes off and leaves Row behind. As he attempts to catch up to her, he senses his own mate in the snow-covered woods of a town called Wilde Creek. His mate is anything but receptive to his touch. Her skin is as scarred as years of brutal fighting have left his heart, but he knows he can convince her he finds her beautiful inside and out. When he takes Kammie back to his people to make her his mate, things go sideways fast – an enemy from Row’s past tries to take Kammie from him. To save her, Row has to fight harder than he ever has.

When a determined bear tangles with an equally determined she-wolf, things will heat up fast. Expect growling, naked conversations, and a bear who will kill to keep his mate by his side forever.

This has to be one of the sweetest mate stories I’ve read in a while. I don’t think I’ve highlighted so many passages as I did in this book. Yes, it was gushy and sugary sweet with a little hotness added in but I ate it up. Row was awesome! I think I sighed out loud quite a bit. This was just what I needed after a long string of mediocre books, especially shifter/mate stories.

If you read any of the other books in this series, you know that Kammie is an omega within her pack. She was badly scarred from abuse by her uncle when she was younger. As a scarred omega, she is the lowest of the low within the pack. She is treated with no respect and valued only for what she can do for the pack. Needless to say, her self-esteem issues are big.

Row, is a bear and a prized fighter within his sleuth. While on a trip to take his adopted sister, Dani, to meet other reindeer shifters, Row barrels into Kammie to prevent her from eating Dani. They are true mates in every sense of the word.

Kammie was very self-conscious of her scars. It took her a while before she would allow Row to see her naked. No one has seen her scars. Row is just what she needs. Everything he says and does is to ease her fears and make her feel special.
“You really do want to be with me. You really don’t care about my scars or my past.” “I don’t, Kammie. They made you who you are. If you weren’t part of a shifter group where physical scars are considered a weakness, you wouldn’t be an omega. I wish I had known you back then. I would’ve done my best to stop him. To save you.”

He was perfect in every way.
“You’re the most important person in my world, Kammie. You’re mine and I’m yours.”

“You’re mine to cherish, Kammie, to protect and love. I just want you to be happy.”

I loved how he would not allow anyone to dismiss her or mistreat her within her own pack. He was also willing to lower himself to an omega status if she decided she wanted to continue living in Wilde Creek. He would do whatever he needed to in order to be with her. *Sigh*
“I love everything about you. Wherever you are is home for me, and whatever the next chapter of our life together brings, I know it will be amazing because we’re together.”

“Meeting you changed my life in a heartbeat, Kammie. I would be lost without you.”

There was a little conflict towards the end, nothing between them. Acksel, the pack alpha, is still an asshole but hopefully Brynn will continue to put him in his place in future books. Other than that, it was mostly just the two of them discovering and loving each other. It could have ended around the 80% mark with a HEA. Typical RE Butler, instead of an epilogue, you get more chapters.
I absolutely adored it!

(3.75 rounded down to 3.)

This was sweet and cute, but I agree with my pals here that the asshole alpha (not the hero) kind of ruined the story a bit. I wanted to castrate the fool. Other than that, everything's hunky-dory.

Did I say "hunky-dory"? I mean perfect.

If you ever need a good pick-me-up, read this.

Kammie Townsend was abused as a child and has scars throughout her body as a reminder, but in her pack she is relegated to Omega because of her scars. She won't even shift with others because of the scars on her body. She has no hope of ever finding her true mate, what male would want a scarred female?

Row tackles a wolf on a mission to take down his sister, a reindeer, only Row is a bear and he realizes he has found his mate. So he throws Kammie over his shoulder and takes off with her despite Kammie's protest. But she has no fear, as soon as he sees her scars he'll back off like they all do.

Kammie is in for the surprise of her life with Row.

The Scarred Heart
Wilde Creek Book 5
by R. E. Butler
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was given an ARC to read and give my honest opinion in exchange for a review.

OH MY WORD! This is another SPECTACULAR paranormal romance! The storyline is a totally absorbing, exciting page turner that you can't help but to keep reading until you finish the book. The characters are exciting, captivating, engaging and written very well. Fast paced and some great emotional play this book is a great addition to the series. Another really great series! The secondary characters are wonderful, I like the fact that we make a visit to the pack it just makes it more fantastic and we get to see the change in the pack and learn what the different between a sleuth and pack is. ( Who knew THX R.E.) The dialogue is sensual and compelling. R.E. Butler is clever, imaginative and she knows how to give her readers adventure with amazing romance and you will never be disappointed. All I can say is that no matter what I read of R.E. Butler I fall in love with it! Her books are always well written, the storyline has something for everyone, The Scarred Heart is her latest release in this series and its a excellent story that had me hooked from the beginning to the end of the book. There is lots of emotions being tug on in this book. But it's a Fantastic addition to the series.

Kammie Townsend is a wolf-shifter but she has been scarred by her uncle. She has always been a loner, because she is ashamed and she doesn’t want her childhood scars to show. Kammie is looked on as invisible by her pack. She thought that her pack's members consider them to be a weakness.

Row Grayson is a gorgeous tattoo Bearshifter who lives with his mother and stepsister to take care of them. Row lives a hard life, he fights in tournaments to entertainment the Bear Kings. The fight contestants are from neighboring bear sleuths and the fights aren't to the death, but the contestants can be maimed. So this weights on Row.

Let's put a twist in the mix. Row's stepsister is a reindeer shifter. The day came that his mother ask him to take Dani to meet her people, Dani just suddenly takes off and leaves Row behind. Row is following his sister and his bear notice a wolf she is beautiful but she is also stalking his sister. It changes everything for Kammie when one night there is a full moon and she is following a reindeer and what happens she gets tackled by a bear. she can scent he is a shifter. After Row tackled the wolf he immediately recognized that she is his mate To Kammie he is the sexiest male she’s ever been tackled by OH WAIT! The only one she been tackled by.

This isn't the whole story by far but believe me, you will love and feel the compassion for them as both characters are scarred but they come together to love and overcome their problems it's AWESOME!! Once again R.E Butler has done a SPECTACULAR JOB!! This will be a great choice for your TBR list. I'm always excited to read what R.E Butler writes next. Highly I recommend this book and the series. I Give R.E. my highest complement I would buy her books even if they costed 9.99 and I have paid more for the hard cover copies.

If you believe in the world of paranormal romance, the possibilities are endless and fascinating!

Scarred from her childhood, Kammie Townsend has always kept to herself, until the night she chases a reindeer and gets tackled by a bear who says they are mates in this enchanting paranormal romance.

Row Greyson has a hard life with the only bright spots being his mother and his adopted sister and the reader can’t help but be enchanted as he senses his mate in the snow-covered woods of a town called Wilde Creek. Emotional turmoil flows from the pages in regards to the past which captures the heart of the reader as the sizzling chemistry burns up the pages during this life altering mating that delivers a well-deserved HEA. The well written, fast paced and smooth flowing plot enchants readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance as the intriguing events ensure that there is never a dull moment and an enemy from Row’s past tries to take Kammie away from him adding adrenaline pumping excitement.

I just had another stimulating and exciting visit to Wilde Creek, one that got my heart pounding and passion flowing, I just love when the characters keep a piece of my heart when we depart, which of course means I can’t wait to visit again.

We’re introduced to Row, the bear shifter, as he’s fighting for his sleuth during one of their monthly battles with other sleuths. He and his sister are encouraged to go look for her people based off some information that their mother has learned. While traveling Row and his sister stop for a run and then we pick up from the last book.

Kammie is of course not having being seen with all her scars but Row doesn’t step down and let her get away with it. By opening up with his own battle wounds he’s able to get Kammie to give in. The two head back to the sleuth and she finds that her scars don’t bother the bears and Row has a visit from an old enemy.

The story was okay but these seem to be lacking when it comes to action or twist. It all goes just as you’d think and after a while that just gets boring. Hopefully, the next one is about Mia because the story with her has been picked at long enough.

This book has a lot of angst...you don't really get to know Kammie and Row...more of what made them the way they are. I loved Kammie from the other stories, loved her getting the perfect mate and a chance to escape the wolf pack. Row is a perfect alpha male...he protects the weak. As he says in the book, her scars shows she is warrior, a survivor. Being disabled myself, I hate how the omegas are treated in the wolf pack. What a horrible life...not actually getting a life, always serving others who treat them as worthless. I probably will finish the next book because I already purchased it...and then stop reading this series. I am depressed the more I continue. :(

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!
Kammie and Row's story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Kammie’s scars, both physical and emotional, and Row's past as a fighter for survival create an intense bond built on acceptance and love. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and Row’s determination to show Kammie her worth is touching. The pacing is strong, and the stakes are high with the presence of dangerous enemies. This book does an excellent job of portraying healing through love and acceptance, making it a standout in the series. There’s plenty of passion, but the emotional depth is what elevates this romance beyond the usual paranormal drama.

Fate knows what she is doing.
This was a lovely sweet and cute read.
Loved Row and how nice he was to Kammie and her trauma issues. The fact he was scarred too was a wonderful sharing point.
Liked that Dani, Row’s sister and Adam were also mates, so we are getting two for one happening.
Acksel the alpha seems to be as obnoxious as ever. I have no hope that he will ever get with the times. Brynn the alpha female is more au fait with what is going on in the pack than IT IS LAW Acksel.

Loved how this was written

I love how Cami got a mate and a great loving mate at that! I like to see that the pack is getting more fair! Its just taking to long and if people don't like it tough they can leave! At least the bears value everyone!

I've had this book for awhile and just hadn't read it til now. Not that I haven't enjoyed the series I have. Just last book made me want to throw my kindle and wash my hands of it. Mostly in part to how the Omegas of the pack are treated. Hence I almost didnt want to continue the series. I love the characters so I decided to continue...yes I know! I STILL dont like the hierarchy works with wolf packs in this series. I didnt like it from the beginning. It falls under Acksel, the alpha. I realize how much pressure it puts on him to make changes. He did a lot for Brynn and changed laws for her. He fears that he will lose wolves if he changes too much too soon. That might be true but he might lose some anyways particularly the younger ones because progress happens no matter what. If nothing changes and you stick too much to tradition they will move to other places who have the changes they desire. I've honestly had a love/hate thing with Acksel. One side of it I understand from his stand point and on the other hand its him being set in his ways. I sorta feel that he's let certain pack members down. The Omegas in particular. Especially the females and injured wolves. As Alpha he's supposed to protect them and he hasn't. Brynn does what she can but just so much she can do. Ok...thats just my thing right now and how I feel about what I DONT like about the series.

Kammie was scarred when she was younger by her abusive Uncle. She covers herself from head to foot. She is treated poorly and pretty much a maid. Although she loves to help out she isn't truly happy because of how she's treated. She's sad. That is until she meets a growly bear. Row, who is escorting his sister Dani to her people who happen to be Reindeer shifters. She is mistaken for prey and Row stops Kammie from chasing his sister. He realizes she's his mate. He's found she isn't very receptive to the idea. Her scars bother her and she feels he wont want her once he knows the real her. On the contrary he wants her no matter what. Row is very sweet. A very good guy. Bears clans in this book are called Sleuths. He fights monthly...not necessarily for standing in his Sleuth because that doesnt exist. Just to show that he's a strong protective male. His King and Queen are really good people and love Kammie. She starts to realize her scars are nothing to be ashamed of. It takes some coaxing and assurance but Row wins her over and Kammie decides she's better suited to move into the Sleuth with Row. She's highly regarded and treated like family. Its really cool and sweet. I loved the book as a whole. Dani doesnt make it her to people. She finds her mate! Adam! Yep...he found his mate. He's an Omega and because of his injuries he isn't very fast. We've known Adam from the other books and he was getting to the point where he was wanting to leave as well. He knew he had value but now he doesnt have to. He's got Dani who loves him as he is. Things will change hopefully with the hierarchy thing.

Super sweet. Couldn't ask for a sweeter hero I loved the way Row stood up for his love and wouldn't let the pack treat her badly.

I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Once again R.E Butler has done an amazing job.

We've been waiting for Kammie's book for sometime and she did well ...really well.

Fast paced and some great emotional play this book is a great addition to the series.
I loved the fact that both characters are scarred and that they work together to overcome their issues.
Also we start to see some need to change in the pack and how different a sleuth is from a pack.
A really great book!!!!

Such a sweet story with an amazing couple. No high drama but romantic and tender moments abound.

Kammie, the scarred omega of the Wolfe Creek pack. Like all omega's she's expected to work for others and doesn't even warrant much thought from them. On the night of the hunt, she runs by herself so the others don't see the scars that mark the abuse she suffered from her cruel uncle. Being scarred makes her "less" I the eyes of her packmates except for a very few true friends.

Row, a bear shifter, is taking his adopted reindeer-shifter sister to see her people when they both run into their mates. Row finds Kammie and his sister Dani finds Adam, another scarred shifter.

Kammie is so down on herself she doesn't really believe any male would want her but bear shifters are different. They consider scars a badge of honor and the sign of a survivor.

Row is amazing, he is so tender and loving towards Kammie and respects her enough not to push her. It doesn't take long for her to come around. He'll stay and join Kammie in her life as an omega if it's what she wants but he hates the way she is treated and ignored. He won't stand for anyone to dismiss her. I just love how he stands up for her and loves her. It makes Kammie understand how worthy she is of love, especially when he takes her to his home so they can mate in the bear-shifter tradition. Where her packmates consider her weak, the bear shifters are furious on her behalf and would take out her abuser if given the chance. (He was banished after the current alpha came to power but it was widely known and ignored that she was being beaten previously).

I really like how the author addressed the hierarchy in the pack because it's been a running theme that has bugged me about the whole series. I like that it's pointed out to be a "wolf" thing and not common of all shifters.

This is just a really romantic story about two beautiful souls finding each other.

In The Scarred Heart, Kammie Townsend has finally met her mate Row Grayson.
Kammie was chasing a reindeer when all of sudden a bear charged into her but the bear turns out to her mate and she thinks that her scarred body will repulse him. Row was protecting his adopted sister from being mauled by a wolf but what he finds is his mate with a lovely body even with the scars.
Row has a lot of work to convince his mate the scars that cover her body are just proof that she is a survivor not something to ashamed of.
He takes her to his home where she is treated better then in her own pack. She makes a decision that will change her life for the better.
With her mate by her side she gains the confidence she needs to lead the life she wants to happy with her mate.

The Scarred Heart was a great book. I loved it. and I am really looking forward to reading Adam's book.

There Should Be More Men Like Row In The World

Row is the ultimate fighter of his sleuth. While taking his adopted sister to meet her shifter family (Dan I is a reindeer shifter) he comes across his own mate.
Kammie is the omega of her pack. They treat her like she doesn't matter. All of that changes when she meets her mate while out hunting.
Row has his work cut out for him when it comes to his mate. Kammie was tortured and abused by the one person that was suppose to keep her safe. The pack also failed to keep her safe as well. They finally intervened when Kammie was almost beaten to death. When she meets Row apart of her was ecstatic to have a mate, while another part of her wants to run. With her scars she doesn't think that she's worthy to have a mate. Row is about to prove her wrong. She is his mate and if anyone messes with his mate they will live to regret it.

Love It!

Im so glad for Kammie in finding her mate, and Adam as well. And so there is still the problem of the treatment of the Omega's in the pack, treating them more like slave then pack members. I really like that the Alpha female is trying her best to change the laws of hierarchy and the way they treat their Omegas but once again Acksel is being stubborn. I would of thought that Adam and Dani would of left the pack as well because Adam was thinking about leaving anyway cos he had enough but stayed as he'd found his mate and plus he would of been more welcome there than where he is.

I think the title really fit with the two characters Row and Kammie. Kammie a wolf shifter from Wilde Creek suffered abuse from her uncle as a child that left her with physical scars, and for that she was looked down on within her pack. Kammie is not treated fairly among her kin for her perceived weakness-which are her scars. Kammie has internalized this and accepted it. Row a bear shifter from Oakville has battle scars from monthly tournament fights with his bear sleuth v. others. Row has the scars from past losses, wins, and near losses. But his scars a mark of his skill and power, they do not represent him in a negative light. Finding her truemate, changes everything for Kammie.

Kammie comes with baggage...a lot of baggage. She's hidden herself from everyone for so long that opening up for her truemate is more than difficult. I love that while Kammie appeared to be one of the weakest members of the pack, she has great inner strength. She's so giving to all around her. She finds joy in doing for others and bringing them happiness. Row has his own issues but once he meets Kammie she becomes his everything. He's willing to wait for her to come to him and he will do anything to protect her. The ending is super sweet.
Highly recommended author and series

She Made It Through

He's supposed to take his adopted sister to her meet her own kind of shifters. When they stop for a break, she smells something that causes her to shift and run to find him right away. When he has to shift to try to catch her, that when he runs into his mate. This is a story about a young lady with physical scars that she has allowed to also mentally scar her. He has scars also but they don't define his worth. This is a fun entertaining read. Enjoy I did.
