If they’d only listened to Maxine from the beginning…
I really enjoyed A Reason to Live. This series has a serious undertone, but the most memorable parts are the laugh out loud, crazy antics of the women and their dealings with the Queen of Trail Bend, Maxine. We’re meeting a hero that is dealing with guilt, PTSD and self-loathing, and a heroine who is recovering from the death of a loved one, childhood mental and physical abuse and her own guilt. But when it came to writing this review, all I could think about is Maxine and her glow in the dark dildos, cookies and cream cock-a-late suckers and her ability to trick three grown men into finding and believing in love. I suppose she’s just reinforcing a fact that I have learnt and acknowledged myself (way too many years too late mind you), MUM KNOWS BEST. I think that now I’m a mum myself, and my mum’s little bits of wisdom and advice are starting to pop out of my own mouth, that it’s finally sinking in. Let's hope my kids learn from my wisdom (wink, wink).
In A Reason to Live, we are introduced to Shane who is finishing up his stint in the army where he is serving in Afghanistan. With days left on his tour, a very bad bombing sees his own team lose lives. As the team leader, he wears their deaths on his very broad shoulders. He returns home burdened with the knowledge that his dreams of setting up his house, meeting, falling in love and living happily ever after with kids, maybe not be in his future if he can’t get past the guilt. To distract himself from his thoughts and nightmares, he works himself to exhaustion helping the people of his town and taking very little payment. He gives the outward appearance of a happy go lucky man, but only the ones who look deep in his eyes can see his true pain. At this stage, he’s just breathing…not living.
Sage’s life is under threat. She works for Child Protective Services and deals with children who are living less than ideal lives. Sage suspects that one of the parents is disgruntled with their child being taken from them and is trying to get back at her for it. She’s received threatening gifts and letters for six months but with no physical attack, the police are unable to do anything about it. Feeling helpless, she turns to the man her sister claimed to be the bravest man she knows. Shane Sherman.
Sage’s and Shane’s first meeting does not go well. Shane looks at Sage and feels guilt and sadness for a life that should have been lived but taken too early. Sage looks at Shane and sees that he is living with guilt and anguish that should not be his burden. They are both really, really attracted to each other, but Shane pushes Sage away again and again. She is determined to see him get past his guilt. With a wee bit of help from Maxine, Mia and a few of the Trails Bend locals, they all push Shane to see Sage as more than just the sister of someone he should have saved, but didn’t.
I laughed, cried and blushed in A Reason to Live. The story sucked me in and held my attention from beginning to end. Shane is a strong man who realises that the love of his woman will help him come to terms with his grief and guilt. Sage is a determined woman who hates to see suffering and takes on the burden of seeing them through to a better place. With such heavy burdens, it was interesting to see Sage come to terms with the fact that she needs Shane’s bossiness and commanding personality to relax and feel secure.
There were times in the story where I wanted to wallop Shane for being so stubborn and flick Sage in the ear for being too understanding. I’m not sure I would have put up with his moodiness and hot and cold attitude. I felt that it was a little too corny and the love a little too sudden, but what’s a good romance without a little make believe. The mystery surrounding Sage's threats, kept the story interesting and I was surprised at the turn of events.
In the Reason series, we see three very strong and determined men find their reason to breathe, kill and live. Jack learns to breathe with the help of Jenn, Max had to kill to keep Mia safe and Shane found a reason to live when he finally accepted Sage into his life. I’m a fan of this author and sad to see this series coming to an end. I can’t wait to see what comes next…

PTSD is debilitating, and an estimated 22 veterans a day take their own lives after bravely serving this country. That’s unacceptable to me. If I could write an HEA for every one of those brave men and women, I would. But unfortunately, they don’t recover as quickly as I can write it in a book.

5 breathe me stars
I LOVE this book, hard! Lately I've been drowning myself in darker-broken reads, so you can imagine how my heart just gobbled this all up. Like all of Ms. Smith's books, she caters to us romantics who believe in soul-mates and insta-love. Insta love is one that I can say Ms. Smith has mastered because she makes it feel as though there is nothing insta about it, it just is.
I'm not going to try and explain what it is, because it's not one particular thing or person, it is everything from beginning to end. But I'll give you a glimpse as to why I fell so hard...

It's no secret I am a HUGE fan of Ms. Smith, her alpha men and quirky females are unforgettable. I almost felt bad for Sage, poor thing was all sorts of confused with all the shenanigans, but she held her own and earned her spot with Maxine, Jenn & Mia. This packed with laughs, heat and heart. I'm on a book high right now and I can't wait for you all to meet Shane and Sage!

5 "C.P. Smith Gives Me So Many Reasons To Read" Stars!!
Shane Sherman…where to begin! He’s passionate, controlling, stubborn, protective, and a thoroughly ALL ALPHA MAN!!! If you’re in trouble, he’s the one that you want protecting you, because if it means him dying to make you safe he’s prepared to meet his maker!!!!
Unfortunately, he fails to see all the qualities that make him a good friend, protector, and partner, he sees failure when he looks in the mirror. He remembers that one event in his past that prevents him from seeing the wonderful and honorable man he is.
When Sage shows up out of the blue, she knocks him for a loop with her long auburn hair and pale green eyes. Sage comes to Trails End to ask for help but all Shane can see is the young girl that he failed. Her sister.
Sage Sloan is being stalked, so she runs the brave man her sister admired so much, Sgt. Shane Sherman. One look at Sage and he knows that he can't go there, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t think of it…..often. When he learns of her troubles, he’s willing to do all he can to keep her safe and (attempt) to keep his distance. However, hilarious Maxine (Maxine-isms are the best!!!) has no intention of letting Sage slip through Shane’s fingers, Maxine loves Shane like a son and knows that Sage will be the woman to mend what’s broken in Shane. Shane’s salvation.
Eventually, Sage’s stalker catches up to her in Trails End, and when the threat gets way to close for comfort it brings Shane to his senses and has him staking his claim on Sage in the most delicious way!!!!

We get a second storyline with Maxine and Gregor McGregor. Maxine and Gregor have known each other for many, many years and Gregor has loved Maxine for just as many. We see the longing these two have for one another and when tragedy strikes, Gregor finally stakes his claim!!!
I loved that Max, Mia, Jack, and Jenn are included in the storyline, not to mention FBI Agent Dane Parker from Property Of!! C.P. Smith finishes out the Reason Series with Shane and Sage’s book and I’m completely and totally satisfied, I’m sad it’s over, but I can’t wait to see what we get next from this amazing author.

LOVE C.P. Smith. She's Kristen Ashley without the annoying back and forth, pointless arguing and repeat heroes. Her heroes are uber alpha, which I love. They're controlling and domineering but they allow their women their quirks. The heroines are funny and dynamic. Lots of romance, hot sex, dash of suspense and loads of romance. A little ott on the cheese factor at times, but I'll slurp all her books up from here on out. She's divine.

If that didn't hit you right in the feels, I don't know what will. Damn this book. It made a blubbering mess out of me.
It's written in a dual narrative and follows our two main characters as they go through grief, forgiveness, self-discovery and love.
It sucked me right in and didn't spit me out (gross I know sorry) until I get to the last page. I read this in, like, 6 hours tops. I. Can't. Put. It. Down. Maybe because I am such a sucker for alpha male characters it's not even funny.
I must say I am not very happy with Shane here. He's so stubborn and hard-headed and he spent literally 70% of the book with his head in his ass. And that was not cool. He's a major dick to Sage multiple times. Definitely not my favourite person in this book.
On the other hand, Sage is a dream. Even with her abusive past and recent loss of a loved one, she still forgives so easily. Too easily. Almost to a fault. She completely understand Shane's guilt and holds him in such high regard (because of her little sister) and truly see what he's hiding underneath his demeanor.
Was it easy to forget Shane's cold and hurtful treatment towards Sage?
Of course not, but I do think that's what makes them so fabulous together. They balance each other out. They strive to help each other in the most hair-pulling (at least only in Shane's part) and charming ways. At the end of the day, what really matters most is their mutual trust and respect and love for each other. So, yes, it was easy to disregard Shane's earlier actions. He redeemed himself in the end, don't worry.
The writing may not be perfect but the author has this way of writing that was so captivating. The plot wasn't as well-realized as her previous works, in my opinion. But I still loved this. I cried, laughed, swooned and fell in love with the story so quickly. I might re-read this series soon.

A quick note before I dive in. PTSD. The author did a fantastic job tackling this subject. She didn’t gloss over it but she also did not focus solely on it. She did a great job showing the impact it without it becoming too educational (as a subject matter) or making this reader feel like it was used as just a tool to create an emotional impact with disregard to the reality of it all. Also, this author is all about the alpha-male and the instant-love, but not like the insta-love that results in immediate proposals and exchanges of ‘I love you’ but rather that instant connect where you just know you met someone you’d be tied to for the rest of your life, even if it takes you a while to get with the program.
When Shane returns home after his time in Afghanistan he never expected to find Sage Sloan seeking him out. A woman that he can’t let himself have because of the guilt he feels over not saving her sister. Sage soon realizes the guilt that Shane is carrying around with him is something that she can’t force him to let go of, but with someone after her – she still feels safest near the man. A man that she knows is everything that she’s always wanted. A man that would stop at nothing to protect her, never hurt her physically and a man that would love her with everything he had.
With some help from Max’s mom, Maxine – Shane and Sage’s story begins. But with a crazy man after her and with Shane unwilling to budge on his feelings – she’s in for one heck of a ride.
This is the closing book in the Reason Series by CP Smith and although you can read this as a standalone, I really recommend starting with book one. We get to revisit all the characters in this final book, Jack & Jenn (A Reason to Breathe) and Max & Mia (A Reason To Kill) and CP does a fantastic job bringing closure to the entire series.
I am a huge fan of this series and the writing style of this author. I love a well written alpha-male and a romance that delivers a great suspenseful plot. Shane pretty much had me at hello in this book and I think Sage might have been my favorite of all the heroines in the series. I loved that she gave her trust so fully to Shane, given her past, which was not an easy thing to do. But I loved that she trusted her instincts and was honest in her attempts with getting past Shane’s tough exterior.
I adored this series and was so excited to start this one, I think of all the books this one is probably my favorite since it not only gave us a great love story but we were able to experience so much with the couples that came before. This is a must read author for those that love a strong alpha-male character that has a pure heart.

Ok so Aurora Rose Reynolds recommended this book and well if she says something I listen!
So I went in without knowing anything and in two days I binged read all three books.

So I went in without knowing anything and in two days I binged read all three books.

Wow. I have to say that CP Smith gets better with each book! This is definitely my favorite book of this series.
Just to break this down…I found the mystery/suspense to be compelling. There are times where I’m able to figure out who the bad guy is, but this time, I didn’t. I’m sure other people will be able to, but I definitely did a little double take of “omg, did I read that right!? Did she see that right!? Was she hallucinating!?” So that was a pleasant surprise. I also loved that even though Shane was so dead set on pushing Sage away, he wouldn’t let her out of his sight until the threat was gone.
And since we’re on the subject…I loved the fact that this felt like a slow burn romance. Yes, it was just a matter of days that Sage was in town, but honestly, it felt like longer (in a good way). Shane felt so much guilt over the death of Sage’s sister that he wasn’t willing to let himself feel any happiness and be with Sage. And I loved every minute of it! Sage didn’t blame him, she wanted to help him move on from his guilt but he wouldn’t have it. Watching him fall for her while denying himself the pleasure of her company…was awesome. They didn’t officially get together until somewhere close to 60% of the book so there was a lot of back and forth and jealousy going on.
My biggest issue with the story, and the reason it wasn’t a 5 star even though I loved it, was the domant/submissive stuff. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bdsm by any means, but Shane said on multiple occasions that he needed control over everything in this life and he wanted to dominate Sage and Sage was told at least twice that she was naturally submissive. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just not my thing so I didn’t enjoy it as much as other’s might. I just couldn’t help but feel like the story/characters didn’t need to go there.
But, even with that issue, I still loved the story between Sage and Shane.

A Reason to Live was great. Maxine alone was magnificent in this new (and last→read with whiny and teary voice) installment, but Shane and Sage as a couple were pretty fantastic too. Add to that we get to visit with Jess & Jack, while Mia & Max are another common fixture in this one which made it positively marvelous for me.
Shane was the definition of an alpha, bossy and possessive male… when he finally pulls his head out of his ass that is. Suffering mildly from PTSD and a crushing guilt for the loss of his men in combat, he is specially weighed for failing to keep a young woman under his command safe.
Sage just so happens to be that girl’s older sister, and this proves a crutial obstacle to their relationship at first.
Sage, a counselor working with Child Protective Services, has known abuse during her life at the hands of her step-father and is now set on not letting any kids suffer as she did. For the last six months she’s been receiving disturbing messages, and the police can’t do anything about the stalker until they become a physical threat. Spooked to Hell and back, Sage decides to leave town and lay low see if this crazy person forgets about her. In the letters her little sister wrote to her during her deployment she had waxed poetic about her Commanding Officer, Sargent Sherman and how he was a man of honor, and pretty much all that a man should be, and that’s how Sage ends up on Trails End.
When Shane and Sage finally meet, they feel a connection and the insta-start of something, however Shane is not willing to let anything good happen to him. Not when he failed his duty, and especially by becoming involved with a woman whose eyes (so similar to her sister’s) take him both to Heaven and Hell at the same time.
Fortunately for all of us, Maxine won’t let Shane waste the chance of true love coming for him, and immediately takes Sage under her mildly inappropriate and hilarious wing. Soon enough Shane starts to cave… and the rest as we know is history.
Well, there’s mystery with Sage’s stalker, a bit of drama with Shane’s state of mind and all that has to happen for him to see the light, lots of sexiness as expected from Ms. Smith, and laughing. There were tons of laughing and smiling like a crazy person for me in this book.
I really loved both Shane and Sage, she was set on helping Shane overcome his guilt about her sister whatever the cost to her. Shane was one very stubborn ass. But what a fine ass he was.
This book was just awesome. I loved it. I would have loved to have a bit more time of Sage and Shane being together (it does take Shane half the book and a very strong wake up call to get his crap together) and then there’s a lot of action going on. There’s also a lot of action going on when they finally get together… so I’m not complaining… much. But what will ever happen to Chester? And Barry, and Jake? And I definitely want to know Parker’s story… so Ms. Smith, I don’t care about what you’ll write, but you need to get on with it ASAP.

A Reason To Live is the third book in the series and while the synopsis suggest reading them all in order I personally believe that you could read this as a standalone and not get confused. We are back again in Trail Ridge, Alaska and can I just mention again how much I love this small town and it’s kooky residents. Sage has come to town in search of a man her sister swore was brave and honorable. She is being stalked and doesn’t know what else to do. But Shane is not the same man who served overseas with her sister. He now has demons he cannot escape and a hard past that Sage only reminds him more of.
“You told me once you weren’t the person I thought you were, but you’re wrong. You’ve just forgotten who that man is.”
Shane was refreshing for me. Alpha to the core and possessive to a T but it still took some convincing and plotting from Sage (with heavy influences from Maxine and the other ladies) to get him to come around to giving them a shot. He was determined to take care of her but keep his distance. Sage’s story is sad and had me emotional but the journey was worth it and in the end I loved both her and Sage and was delighted to catch up with all the other characters I have come to really love.
“I could have come from the spanking alone; it was wickedly arousing.”
If you are a fan of insta-love (even if they still have to work at getting him to admit it out loud) and alpha males than this book/ series is for you. With a stalker on the loose the plot is serious but the characters and dialogue will have you giggling and happy. Sexy and intense with a easy to read tone to the book it would be hard not to enjoy A Reason To Live.

This CP Smith's best book to date and the best read of the year!!
I freaking LOVED this book and I freaking LOVE this writer!
I cried. Parts of this book made me think about loved ones I lost overseas and it warmed my heart to think of them. I laughed, the various references and outright hilarious moments really helped during the moments that took my breath away. I was on the edge of my seat during many parts of the book and when it was all said and done...I cried again.
ARTL is an amazing story about the power of love. Not just between a man and woman but between friends and family. It's about overcoming whatever obstacles are put in your path and letting yourself feel the love and support from the people surrounding you. It's about grabbing onto the one for you with both hands and doing everything in your power to make their lives beautiful and full of love.
I haven't read the others two books in this series but I learned this book is a well-written standalone...and even with the other couples from the previous books I wasn't lost or confused. In fact, I am now on a mission to read the other two books because I loved the other characters so much!!
Maxine-isms are the absolute best! There are some beautifully written sections of this book I have highlighted and I know will always be quotes I will think about. The insight CP Smith has about what love is/means, is eye opening and heart warming.
This book is a great example of what to do when you end a series. (and it makes me sad because their were other characters I would love to see have a story!) Strong, poignant and absolutely breath taking.
Shane Sherman and Sage Sloan are officially one of my all time favorite couples. Dallas Vaughn, another one of CP Smith Alpha Males, and my favorite, has been dethroned! All hail, Shane Sherman!

CP Smith has done it again! She's written a heroine I can't help but bond with and a hero I can't help but swoon over!!
I enjoyed how in this one there's a bit of a different feel to it - Sage pursues Shane more at the beginning while he works through his thing, but once his eyes are opened to what's in front of him, OH MY, watch out!! There's also a little bit more of a serious under-tone to this story as compared to the others in the series (which totally works for this couple), but it's balanced out nicely with the appearances of Maxine (GOD, I love that woman! I so want to be her when I grow up!), Max, Mia, and (squee!!) Jack and Jenn. But this story nicely finishes out the series and leaves a satisfied feeling in my heart.
There's a couple of sweet twists I wasn't expecting that made my heart burst with happiness. There was also a few scary-wasn't-quite-expecting-that moments too. Shane and Sage delivered on all the feels: I giggled, cried, swooned, freaked, shivered, lost my breath, got it back, and lost it again.
CP has a habit of providing some nuggets of truth in her stories and she didn't fail to include them in here - what's important in life, how you see yourself, among a few others. It's those deeper things that help made a d*** good story all the better!
This is definitely not a book to be missed!! It was a wonderful escape and a journey I'll willingly take over and over again. Beautiful way to tie everyone and everything together!!

I received this for an honest review.. I have to say I am in total love with Shane.. Every-time I pick up this authors books I fall in love.. One thing about C.P as a writer is this woman just keeps getting better...
Shane is an awesome alpha one that has you begging for more.. There is so much I just wanna say about this book but I dont want to spoil for anybody... This is one of those books that you will not want to put down in shape or form!!! This book will make you laugh and the hero will frustrate you to no end but such a great read.. I always feel honored that I get to read these books before publication!!!

Parts of the book were enjoyable but I was annoyed with so much of Shane's behavior that it soured the story for me.
I imagined doing this to Shane for most of the book.
Maybe more of Maxine would have made me happier.

3.25 RATING- Some cute parts, some parts that dragged. I had to wait entirely too long for Shane to get his head out of his ass but when he did, I was a fan. Maxine was a definite star in this story.

Out of all the Reason series by CP Smith, this one has me by the heart the most. I went in knowing this was the “end”, but was not prepared for the full effect of it when it was over. I have completely fallen in love with all the characters, but Sage and Shane have to my favorite couple. This read was different. All the characters had their inner battles and wars they had to deal with, but Shane and Sage? Wow. With Shane’s PTSD and Sage’s abusive childhood, you could tell these two were meant to complete each other. Throughout this whole book, I was a myriad of emotions. I laughed (to the point my husband thought I was absolutely crazy), cried, swooned, and was hopeful every turn of the page. These two had a rough road to hoe, but they were completely and totally perfect for each other. The characters were so incredibly complex, and CP went into much research with her characters’ backgrounds. I felt like I KNEW more about the characters and their real life issues, coming out of the read, than I did going in. The plot? Twists and turns left and right. You NEVER knew where this one was going to take you. One minute you were up, then down, then sideways. For this, I loved it. And alpha male Shane? Book boyfriend for life. I loved his gruff exterior and demeanor. He was my dream alpha to a T and I’ve not said that about any other character I’ve read and fell in love with! If you haven’t gotten your hands on this book, and this series for that matter, yet, you truly don’t know what you are missing!

I loved this book!!! And I hate that this is the last book in the series. I'm seriously going to miss this characters.
Shane suffered and witnessed a lot during his time in the Army. With only days before his retirement, his team was involved in a bombing where lives were lost. He now breaths without living and tries to hide his guilt and PTSD from his friends.
Sage was raised by a stepfather who was both physically and verbally abusive. She works with child protective services to try and help another child avoid what she went through. When her life is threatened and someone begins stalking her, Sage decides to go to the only man she thinks can help. Before her younger sister Emma Jane was killed in Afghanistan, she'd told Sage about her sergeant, Shane Sherman, and what a good man he was. But when Sage shows up to ask for help, the guilt is clear in Shane's eyes. He blames himself for Emma Jane's death and is determined to keep Sage at a distance. Even when they both know the attraction is there and they could be reason to live for each other.
Gah. This book pulled at my heart strings. I wanted to reach in my Kindle and choke Shane a couple of times. The connection between he and Sage was so strong, I could literally feel it through the words as I read. Sage is such a strong and special person. She was absolutely perfect for Shane and his bullheadedness. He was such a great man, just tortured by his past and in need of a little shove and eye opening.
While there was some seriousness to this book, there was also so many funny and laugh-out-loud parts. Maxine is hilarious and has been in each book in this series. From her relationship meddling to her sex products company, you never knew what she was going to be up to next. You should really read this entire series if you have not. All three books are good and they contain the same group of characters so you grow to love everyone and feel as through you are right there in Trails End. Max, Shane and Jack are great heroes and their leading ladies are just as much fun.
I'll miss them and have already added these books to my list of books to re-read.

All three books are good and they contain the same group of characters so you grow to love everyone and feel as through you are right there in Trails End. Max, Shane and Jack are great heroes and their leading ladies are just as much fun.
I'll miss them and have already added these books to my list of books to re-read.

Where has this author been and why haven't I heard of her? Loved it!
Totally new author to me and loved how I was pulled into the story from the get go. The very first chapter literally grabbed me and did not let me go until I read "The End". This author made me feel all the emotions that was going on in the story.
Shane feels so much guilt that he's just going through the motions of living. His friends want to help him but he just blows them off. He helps everybody but he won't let anyone help him.
Then when Sage comes to town, the guilt is even worse. She needs his help though; unfortunately he wants nothing to do with her. He sees her as a reminder and his guilt gets even worse. She's ready to give up and leave but Shane just can't let her leave even when he's the one saying you need to go.
"You could have breathed me in, even when it hurts to breathe, and I would have helped you heal." "That's what I would have given to you if you'd been brave enough to try." If I could make teasers I would have made them for those words right there. Made my heart hurt.
Shane can be a sweet talker when he wants to be. Especially when he says "All I see now is you." That whole paragraph....sigh....Sweet talker, I'm telling you.
Maxine, (Max's mom) oh my gosh! This woman had me laughing out loud at several different times while reading this book. She is a hoot! Passion Princess Party I swear I about choked when I read this!
The things that the girls get into is a riot! Cracked me up! Then the way that their men handle them, yeah, they know how to handle their women!
I got to meet Shane's friends and family. There was Max and Mia, Jack and Jenn and I also met Gregor who wants Maxine. I can't wait to go back to the beginning of this series and read their stories! I'm sure they're as funny, sweet,and hot and will suck me into their stories as well as this one did.

That was very entertaining. Shane moved to Trail's End after a heartbreaking deployment. A nineteen year old soldier was killed under his command in Afghanistan and now her sister, Sage, wants to get to know the man her sister wrote home about. Sage doesn't blame Shane for Emily's death but that doesn't stop him from blaming himself. Sage wants to help him heal and it doesn't hurt that their attraction for each other is through the roof.
Don't let the beginning fool you, it's not all sad. It's actually a hoot. Max and Mia and Maxine are back and watching and meddling in the beginnings of Shane and Sage's courtship. Shane is resisting and Sage is tenacious. But there's also adventure with the white water rafting and crazy stalkers.
The gang heads to Colorado so Jack and Jenn can join in the fun. It was just an all around enjoyable read. Good job.

Loved it - you are almost sad cause you know this is the last book in the series and I am so sad to leave :(
The book had me hook, line & sinker from the start to the finish it was almost like one of those books where you didn't want real life to interrupt!!
Jake & Max were all alpha when it came to there woman but they had nothing on Shane. I don't know if I have a submissive bone in my body but I think I would for Shane (hot)
The story line was tough but like a true romance you always get your HEA so you just hope on for the ride and know you will get through it.

Today, we bring you one more #BuddyRead. We really do love to do these. Anyway, Cyndi and Anja both have been avid readers of CP Smith ever since "A Reason to Kill" and loved her over-protective, yet sweet, alphas. "A reason to Live" is the last one in the "Reason Series" and definitely been greatly anticipated.
1. How was it going back to Trails End? And especially Gunnison? Because yes, we get to meet all the previous characters of the series again.
Anja: I couldn’t wait go back to Trails End. I fell in love with it during Max and Mia’s story and I was thrilled to go back. Mostly however, I was excited to get some more Maxine. That woman is a hoot and I totally want to be her when I grow up. As for going back to Gunnison, well I sure as hell didn’t see that one coming. I have to say, while A Reason to Breathe is my least favorite of CP’s books, I did love Jack and Jenn. I forgot how funny this group of people was. It sure was amazing to see where all of our beloved characters were in their life and how the new couple fit into the group dynamic.
Cyndi: Yes, I only just finished A Reason To Kill a few weeks ago but I already missed Trails End. In R2K I didn't see Shane being as Alpha as he is, so I'm glad he was the H in A Reason To Live. I think CP did an amazing job on the plot, connecting everyone through other characters, circumstances, and also through time and place. I loved catching up with Max and Mia and really loved that we get to see the Gunnisons' (in Gunnison) again.
2. Shane Sherman… *swoon* He has his reasons for being closed off. How did you feel about him? Was he forth fighting for?
Anja: I LOVED Shane. He’s definitely the typical overprotective alpha we expect from CP. He’s loyal, protective, sweet, and broken. I totally understand his reasoning as to why he’s closed off and doesn’t think he deserves happiness. Guilt is tricky and makes rational people do stupid stuff. However, I would have loved to hit him over the head in the beginning, a lot. He hurt Sage for no reason. And the hot and cold thing he had going on was pretty frustrating. But once he let go of the past, and moved on, he was everything I wanted him to be.
Cyndi: Shane, Shane, Shane - I have Shane-brain. And yes, he's so worth fighting for. I think he was the most stubborn of all of them, but I understand it. His reasons for pushing back on Sage, then stating she would need to stay close made sense. It was hard to be in his head/heart at times as the conflicting feelings tore away at him. I agree Anja, guilt drives a lot of unreasonable behavior. I often associate it with shame, but I didn't get that from him at all. I don't think an Alpha of his caliber would be ashamed of much and it wouldn't have been the right emotion. Now as far as deserving a smack down...I didn't think he was cruel to her and he didn't play games, but he certainly sent mixed signals and that made me VERY unhappy with him.
3. Sage Sloan—I love the name btw—hasn’t had the most peaceful life. How did you like her?
Anja: I have to say, Sage might be my favorite heroine of this series. She was strong, independent, resilient, and for once she was the one fighting for what she wanted. She was the strong one fighting to pull Shane out of this dark place he was in. At the same time, she did show us, and Shane, her vulnerable side too. Sage is a complex character filled with strength, but vulnerable and fragile as well. I like this about her. It not only added layers to her character, it also made her very interesting and entertaining.
Cyndi: Rightee o' you are Anja, Sage is wonderful! Her backstory really endeared me to her. I'm going with all "s" words to describe her - smart, sassy, sweet, straightforward, and strong-willed She doesn't mince words and that makes her perfect for Shane. He needs it straight so as not to allow him to use that as an excuse for his behavior. She has enough of her own guilt and that made their understanding of each other, their connection, really tangible. Gosh, it's hard to choose a favorite, but I connect with Mia the most. I'm a little (or maybe a lot) clumsy and her backstory was less tragic and more relatable (for me).
4. How did you like their relationship? Anything that astounded you? Made you mad?
Anja: I actually liked their relationship quite a bit. It deviated from the norm, it wasn’t our typical “hero sees heroine and knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with her”. For once, it was the heroine, Sage, who knew, who fought, and who stayed. It was refreshing to see this. I also enjoyed the banter between them. Their relationship was filled with humor, passion, and bickering—everything I’ve come to love about CP Smith’s books over the past year.
Cyndi: I couldn't agree more Anja! It is different in that Sage was really the more aggressive of the two. She does not give up on him even when he gives her reasons to walk away. My heart stopped at one point when I thought she might have finally given up, when I though Shane finally pushed her too far.
5. What did you like best about the book?
Anja: The best part about his book was, hands down, Maxine. I freaking adore her. She’s this amazing woman who every girl wants as her BFF, or mother-in-law! She’s strong, independent, nosy, smart, and oh so wise. Her “Maxine-isms” where not only hilarious, they were also really insightful and sensible. Her one-liners alone make this book worth reading. And the fact that she gets her HEA as well made me so very happy! I loved it.
Cyndi: Again I agree with you A, and you're probably sick of hearing that. Knowing what I know of you, you ARE Maxine...
So, the biggest surprise for me was Maxine and the existence of that "certain someone". But I think my favorite bit was the "errands tour" that Maxine springs on Sage. That woman is a diviner of sorts and her meddling ways epitomize her kookie and genuine nature.
6. Any last thoughts on the book, the series itself, plot line, characters?
Anja: I really liked this book, and the series itself. It was a fun, quick read with hilarious characters and a well-developed story line. CP Smith, for me, is slowly becoming one of those go-to authors who I know I can pick anything up from and like it.
Cyndi: What I love is how thoughtful the story is. I read A LOT and what shines through is how much effort and love CP put into what she delivers; the characters and story line mesh across the entire series. Her Alpha's are among the best of the best and she matches them to the right "type" of female. She builds on the connection, maybe the instant attraction very believable. It feels like souls coming back together, it's organic. R2L left me with a book hangover and much of that came with how she involved the characters from R2B and R2K. The epilogue(s) are wonderful ~ not too long and perfectly mapped out as far as the amount of time that passes and the conclusion that we get. She's definitely a go-to author and I look forward to what's next!

I have loved every book in this series, but A Reason to Live COMPLETELY rounds out the series so perfectly. As usual, the suspense is intense and exciting and the mystery of it all keeps you turning the pages. I couldn't for the life of me put this book down! LOVED EVERY SINGLE WORD! Seriously!
Shane and Sage were another example of how to fight for something that you cherish. Jack, Max and Shane are men that you can't ever forget. Men you don't WANT to forget. Men you want your sons to become! I know I'll be re-reading this series a lot in the future.
Sage is incredible. Strong, smart, and determined. And her job certainly requires it. Working with children who are being neglected or abused and determining whether or not they need to be removed from their parents' custody… seriously a tough job. But she does it and she is good at it and she certainly knows how to handle herself. She's struggled since the tragedy that happens at the beginning of the story, but she still has that spark that was there in her sister as well. A sister that Shane knew and cared for. Her past was not easy and it shaped her into the beautiful and fascinating woman she has become. Flaws and all.
Shane has been in darkness. A pit of despair for a year and he can't find his way out. Not even with the help of his family and friends. But he is such a unique character. Strong as you would expect, but holds such a caring core as well. He knows what is in front of him but he is willing to sacrifice his own happiness to ensure the happiness of others. He doesn't do this blindly, but very maturely. I think that is why I fell in love with him so quickly. His protectiveness of Sage is immediate and the reason why is touching and beautiful. He won't let her be hurt by the psycho that is stalking her and not just because of what happened.
Shane and Sage together seriously send the fireworks flying because, my God, they are intense together. From the first moment they laid eyes on each other, then the moment they actually first speak to each other… you can't help but feel the connection. Shane fights it, but as this author is SO INCREDIBLY TALENTED at doing, their story becomes one that burrows so deeply, you wish you could crawl into it and live it out yourself.
And how the author brought Jack and Jenn, Max and Mia, and even Maxine into the story only to weave a thriller of a suspense together… it will take your breath away. These women make you laugh out loud!
START THIS SERIES if you haven't already! I am looking forward to more from this author because she has become one of my favorites and EVERY SINGLE one of her books has blown my mind!

This is a brand new author for me but she has become a fast favorite of mine. I started with book one in this series and continued to binge read books two and three after one... oh yes they were that good. This author's writing style reminds me a lot of Kristen Ashley and I am a huge fan of hers so hello! It would only make sense. I love the insta-love, insta-lust, and tons of insta-steam.
This book was amazing. Sexy, sweet, intense, suspenseful, and full of twists and turns, this book has a little bit of everything for romance readers. While each book in this series is a standalone, I recommend reading them in order as you get the sense of community with overlapping storylines. CP Smith takes her readers on a journey that will have you flipping pages long after it is over.
This is Shane and Sage's story. Shane is broken. A shell of the man he use to be, war changed him. He is closed off, constantly punishing himself for his past "sins". When Sage enters his life, he works to push her away because of a too close connection but the pull he feels for her is to strong. And when danger presents itself to Sage, he will do whatever he has to, to keep her safe.

If you are a fan of C.P. Smith you will love this book. This is Shane and Sloan's story and I loved it, Shane was a little different then I expected but he was great and Sloan was very likeable. But it was Maxine who stole the show I think as she did in Max and Mia's story to, I don't think she takes away from the story but she injects hilarity into the story so it doesn't become to heavy. I also loved seeing the other characters again and putting Jenn, Mia, Sloan and Maxine together was shear genius. I can't wait for Dane Parkers story, I hope he is next but even if he isn't I can't wait for the next book from this author. So if you like your romance with drama, action, laughs and alpha males this author writes the type of books you are after so give this book ago. Also this is the third book in the Reason series and although each story is standalone and you don't need to read the books in order I think you will enjoy it more if you at least read A Reason to Kill (book 2, Max and Mia's) story first because the characters in that book play a large role in this book.
If you are a fan of C.P. Smith you will love this book. This is Shane and Sloan's story and I loved it, Shane was a little different then I expected but he was great and Sloan was very likeable. But it was Maxine who stole the show I think as she did in Max and Mia's story to, I don't think she takes away from the story but she injects hilarity into the story so it doesn't become to heavy. I also loved seeing the other characters again and putting Jenn, Mia, Sloan and Maxine together was shear genius. I can't wait for Dane Parkers story, I hope he is next but even if he isn't I can't wait for the next book from this author. So if you like your romance with drama, action, laughs and alpha males this author writes the type of books you are after so give this book ago.
