Ruby, imagining herself a Knight of the Round Table, accepts King Arthur's challenge to solve the mystery of the disappearing realm, coming up against a giant, a dragon, and a wizard in the course of her quest.
Tied for my favorite children's book with The Forbidden Door, but wins because of its totally kickass heroine who is not only a feminist superstar (along with the "bad" dragon and giantess who later become not so bad after all) who wins in the end not with actual buttkicking but by making the wizard laugh. Really, a perfect story.
Ruby the Red Knight is one of my favorite children's books. I read this hundreds of times to my daughters. Love the strong female character in a children's book that so goes against the many helpless Disney princess. My daughter's loved it. Would love to see it reprinted as I tried to search and our library no longer has a copy.
