Whenever the Unmumsy Mum shares a story about life with her two young boys, she is inundated with anecdotes from other mums who have had similar experiences. As she herself puts 'I have spent many an evening over the past year absolutely howling with laughter at all the comments and messages received via my blog and social media pages. The Facebook page, in particular, has become a place for mums and dads to share their hilarious stories about the reality of life with children. I was confident that there would be further undiscovered gems out there - hysterical things that children have said, embarrassing things that they have done - so I invited my followers to send their own tales to me. This is a collection of the best of those stories - enjoy!'This ebook collection is released to celebrate publication of The Unmumsy Mum's first book and includes an exclusive preview of The Unmumsy Mum.
Basically, I can't find my Harry Potter so I read this instead, and quite literally, this is just paragraphs about parenting, mostly embarrassing moments from the so-called "frontline of parenting". This is an instantly forgettable collection of average stories, mostly involving boobs or kids accidentally saying sexual things. It takes probably about eight minutes at most to read, and it's free, so I can't say I don't recommend it, but it's also really average, so.. Also, what is the Unmumsy Mum? Is it like a blog or something? I chuckled.
From a toddler stealing a wig on the bus to another revealing the private life of her parents at school, from a family detained at the airport for a gun toy to children exposing their mothers' breasts in public, and many more, The Unmumsy Mums is a short collection of hilarious and embarrassing real-life stories written by parents about their young children.
With a 13 year old who's already been through it & 14 month old twins on the cusp of it,this book made me laugh out loud at the dreaded 'did that really come out of her mouth?' stage
Feels like a it of a cheat adding this as a read. This is a short collection of anecdotes from parents across the globe, and a prelude to me seeing if I wanted to buy The Unmumsy Mums not-as-free book. I really enjoy this and read in about 15 mins of a pregnancy insomnia bout. I think the full book will definitely be something I'll order to have at hand in a couple months time when I'm crying, feeding and sleep deprived thinking 'what have I done'. Sometimes it is good to know that despite the love for your children, someone else has bad days too.
INITIAL THOUGHTS I fancied a light fun read and this one looked like it would fit the bill nicely! Also it was FREE! yes FREE! (OMG I sound like Martin Lewis, Moneysaver Expert lol) to download.
MY REVIEW I downloaded this one FREE from Amazon UK. As it says on the cover this is a collection of hysterical stories about parenting! The cover features a breakfast cereal splat on the cover along with a spoon and a fork that appear to have been launched after the cereal too! Would this book cover make me pick up this book from a bookstore shelf? Yes, its a quite amusing scene, and one a few parents will have been through at some point during their parenthood journey. The cover sets the amusing tone of the book. The book begins with a letter from the Author saying she has spent many an evening on her blog, and other social media sites quite literally howling at some of the stories of cringeworthy, laugh out loud, incidents that she has been sent. Unmumsy Mum has included some of the stories she has been sent in her book that is due out in February and then because she had so many, she decided to collect a few of them and made this free novella length edition for us, the reader, to have a taster of the forthcoming book. A lady called Lauren, sent her incident . . . .her daughter was enjoying "dress up" and "role play" time at school and was talking excitedly about it at home. When daddy thinking it was funny and being witty chipped in with a comment saying her mummy likes to do "role play and dress-up too". They then thought no more about it until later when the little girl promptly asked her young male teacher if mummy could come in and join in "role play" and then turned to her mummy and asked her which outfit she wanted to wear!! There are quite a few more where that one came from, in fact, they rang amusing, outrageous and some a little scandalous too! So Did I enjoy this book? As a taster of a coming soon larger edition, this was a perfect lunchtime, or bus journey read. Just remember where you are when reading and prepare to get strange looks when you spontaneously burst out with a giggle, chuckle and roar of laughter too. Would I recommend this book? As it was a freebie I'd have to say it's an absolutely brilliant book! How much would I have been comfortable paying for it? About 99p or £1.50 as it is quite short, though packed with laughs! Ideal book to read for that half hour, when you've just put the little darlings to bed, or dropped them off at school on time! and you finally have time for a cuppa and a biscuit. Would I want to read more of this type of genre? I do enjoy real life anecdotes and funny story collections, from things like this to the professional "Confessions" books like Air Hostess, Teacher, Policeman, Firemen, Male Nurses, Nurses to Cashiers. I keep searching for a hairdressing one and another cashier/checkout one because I have had both careers! Would I want to read more from the Unmumsy Mum? Well, the book this collection is a taster of has gone straight onto my Want To Read Wishlist!
FINAL THOUGHTS Brilliant, amusing stories that will have you "bent over double in laughter" with tears streaming down your face! This great collection of hilarious stories/anecdotes from parents (not the spick and span ones with a house without a thing out of place, and the perfect angelic children) but those who are down to earth and "normal" like the rest of us! The ones that struggle to get the children to school on time whilst wearing the school uniform with matching socks and shoes and having had their hair brushed too lol! This book has you in tears with laughter and if this is only a small taster what will the book be like?! So good only negative was I wanted more! . . . .much more! ....I did not want it to end!
I think this has been said in other reviews but this is, very basically, a collection of things that kids have said or done that were vaguely embarrassing for the parents and other people involved.
Seeing the title, and reading a bit about the blog that it comes from, I was expecting more stories about the parents to be in there rather than just have it be about the kids but hey. That’s not what happened here. Some of the stories were funny and did make me smile, others were not so much funny as average.
All in all, quite forgettable but a quick read if you were looking for something quick to read when you have nothing else.
I was randomly looking at titles on the Kindle store and this one was free and looked funny. I wanted a short break from the heavy WW2 books that I was reading and this seemed like the perfect option. But this was too short - I read this in about 8 minutes flat! And its hardly funny- anecdotes from parents of children between 2-4 years of age mostly. Most of them seem line everyday occurrences and hardly 2 or 3 of them had me laughing.
So it's not a worthwhile read, but for 8 minutes worth of your time, you can have a few light laughs.
It was another quick easy read. I liked it because it raised a smile as promised and was not full of typos or grammatical errors. The reason it only gets 2 stars is because although it delivers as promised, it really is more of a pamphlet than a book. I look forward to reading the Unmumsy Mum though.
3 stars because it's too short. Yes I know it's meant as a advertising book for the unmumsy mum but it ran out too quick. I'm sure she could have made it longer. Plus the preview of the book it was advertising was a little slow of I'm honest and didn't make me want to rush to get it. Perhaps if she added another chapter as a preview too. All in all. It's ok if u have 10 mins to kill.
Little ones often gives us embarassing moments, but they are innocent. We have coloured the world and categorised it into good and bad. But for little one there is no discrimination. They see Color as Color. Not as some representative. How beautiful their world. How badly we change them...
A quick read about how to feel totally out of your depth regarding the inappropriate things kids come out with . We as parents can all related to this ...when we have tried to pretend that the child responsible for their inappropriate comments isn't even with us or that we don't know them. Good funny stuff
This an hilarious pick me up after a day fraught with fighting two toddlers, especially after you've accidentally smacked one in the face with a frying pan!
Some of the anecdotes were amusing, but I'm glad it was a short read as it could've become tedious. Certainly not a gripping read though, so only a couple of stars.
This book might be short but boy will it make you laugh. You might think that some of the things your own children do or say have shocked you ,but wait till you read this
I loved the unmumsy mums first book, and this collection of hysterical stories was in par with her book! I love hearing there isn't me in the world with bloopers, definitely one to read if your feeling down!
A mixture of hilarious and frustrating shorts that highlight the best embarrassing moments kids can get their parents into. Very short stories at times with no real structure to the pages. Yet I will admit there were a few gfaws of laughter.
