This comprehensive guide explores the fundamental sewing methods fashion designers need and teaches professional garment construction.

Chapter One introduces sewing tools and machinery (including industrial machines). It discusses how to work with patterns and explains cutting-out methods. Chapter Two is devoted to different fabrics and how they work, focusing on the construction of a garment, including fastenings and trimmings, and the use of materials to support structured pieces, such as corsets. Hand-sewing techniques and basic seams are explored in Chapter Three. Techniques are demonstrated with step-by-step photographic guides combined with technical drawings. A guide to making garment details and decorations, such as pockets, waistlines, and necklines, is found in Chapter Four. Chapter Five addresses fabric-specific techniques, for everything from lace to neoprene. The best technical approaches to use for patternmaking and construction are discussed for each fabric. Catwalk images demonstrate how these kinds of techniques are employed by designers.

كتاب بمثابة موسوعة مصغرة شاملة في الخياطة لمصمم الأزياء يقع في 320صفحة ضمن خمس فصول في الفصل الأول مدخل في الخياطة بداية من مكان العمل والأدوات والمكائن ، النسيج، أخذ المقاسات، رموز الباترونات....الفصل الثاني في أدوات ولوازم الخياطة كالأقمشة والألياف الطبيعية والصناعية، مكملات الخياطة كالأزرار والكلف...وأدوات التقوية، المؤثرات الغير مرئية والمشدات. وفي الفصل الثالث الغرز الأساسية (تقنيات الخياطة اليدوية، التشطيبات وتنظيف القطع بالماكينة). أما في الفصل الرابع فيتناول البنس والكسرات والكشكشة والكرانيش، أيضًا فتحات العنق وملحقاتها، والأكمام والأساور، الجيوب، الكمر، خط الذيل، البطانة، المغلقات...وفي الفصل الخامس تناول المنسوجات وتقنيات القص. لغة الكتاب واضحة إلى جانب الصور. الرسوم التوضيحية.

I wish I had this book when I first started sewing seven years ago, though I still find it very useful. It covers pretty much everything you need to know as a fresh sewer: machines, fabrics, stitches, equipment, techniques. My only complaint about the book was that on some of the pictures there were too little contrast. A photo of white fabric on a white background placed on a white page made some of the examples a bit hard to see. But otherwise a really useful book if you're getting into sewing or already have some experience.

Amazing step by step demonstrations for modern sewing and tailoring; this book contains many types of pockets, structure and instillation methods. Highly recommend for a seamstress who may not know all of the ropes.
