It'd have been unfair if I wrote an English review of this book prior to the Hindi one; so yes, a Hindi review is followed by an English counterpart.
इसे पढ़कर जो प्रभाव मुझ पर पड़ा है, उसे शब्दों में व्यक्त करना अधूरा होगा। इसे केवल एक महान पुस्तक कहना भी इसके वास्तविक अद्वितीयता को व्यक्त करने में असमर्थ रहेगा। मैं जितनी गहराई से पीयूष मिश्रा की भाषा के कौशल से प्रभावित हूं, और जितना प्रभावित हूं उनके द्वारा अपने कविताओं में सूक्ष्म संदर्भों का अद्भुत समावेश करने के तरीके से, वह सब भी मेरी प्रशंसा को पूरी तरह से व्यक्त करने में असफल है। वास्तव में, मेरी वास्तविक श्रद्धा केवल यही होगी कि मैं सिर झुका दूं ऐसे शानदार सृजनकर्ताओं के प्रति, जिन्होंने अपनी कला के माध्यम से रचनात्मकता और संस्कृति की आत्मा को जीवित रखा है। यह, मुझे लगता है, इस असाधारण कृति को पढ़ने के मेरे अनुभव का सार है।
To say I am impressed by reading this would be an understatement.
To describe it merely as a great book would still fall short of its true brilliance.
To claim that I am profoundly captivated by the eloquence with which Piyush Mishra crafts his language, all while seamlessly incorporating intricate cross-references throughout his poems, would still fail to do justice to my awe.
In fact, the only way I can truly express the depth of my admiration is by bowing my head in reverence to such magnificent creators, who, through their art, have kept the spirit of creativity and culture alive.
This, I believe, encapsulates the essence of my experience in reading this extraordinary work.

I like Piyush Mishra ji as a thoughtful artist adding value to bollywood art films.
Enjoyed the initial shayaris which were written in his own unique style and were very good.
Its the poem department which was not as good.
Few poems were still very impressive giving out social messages on abortion, child molestation, deforestation.
Overall a good collection.

पियूष मिश्रा वैसे तो अच्छे गीत लिखते हैं लेकिन इस किताब में जो उन्होंने लिखा है उसमे वो बात नहीं है। बात दिल से है जरूर लेकिन शायरी वाली अदा नहीं है। उन्मुक्त लेखनी है। ताल छंद से जुदा, इनका अपना अंदाज है। फ्री वर्स कह सकते हैं। लेकिन पूरी किताब पढ़ने के बाद स्मरणीय कुछ नहीं। विशेष कुछ नहीं। जो उनके काम से वाकिफ हैं, उन्हें शायद मजा आए। वैसे चंद लाइनें अच्छी भी हैं, जैसे

पीयूष मिश्रा कविता संग्रह उनके सोच और प्रतिभा का आइना है। सरल सुन्दर शब्द, सोचने पर मजबूर करने वाली। अलग अलग विषयों पर उनकी सोच शब्दों की मालाओ में पीरो रखा है इस कविता संग्रह ने।

My Review - Some books just connect and this one was amongst them. Connecting to a deeper level which even I didn't know, a level of poetic connection to the emotional one. His writing is amazing, often Raw or even at par controversial for the narrow brainers. Initially, after 3-4 of his work in this book, I was in a lump. I wasn't connecting much and this book just stayed unopened on my desk. But as it goes, often books (and mostly poetic books) need a precise state of mind to penetrate the loose walls of heart and soul. And that day came, and oh boy. I simply wasn't able to put down this one. Almost all of his work had my markings on it. They simply touched. To know is to read and the same goes for this book. Grab a day with heartache and grab this book and pick it up after 10 or maybe 12 in the night, and see where it takes you (worked for me). All I'm saying is, when the mood is in swing, this book will weigh more than a normal reader would've thought. The book also has many of the songs written by the author. The neglected area when browsing a song on television or sometimes radio. From the rowdy songs like - 'हुआ चोकर जवान रे ', 'गोली मार भेजे में' to the romantic ones - 'कुछ ना कहो... कुछ भी ना कहों...'. I didn't know he was the writer of these songs. I loved those songs but never appreciated the writer behind them, which I'll do more from now on. And lastly Urdu. Great for the amateurs finding good Urdu versed poems.
Conclusion - Wrote the feelings which would've not been spoken into words.

Emotions that hit you right at the heart, words that leaves deep imprints on the mind, want to feel it, then read this.
Some poem are so mesmerizing, it almost instantly makes you feel cheery! Some worth mentioning poems that I loved the most from this little book:

This was my first read in hindi poetry and I absolutely loved it. He was so raw, real and vulnerable in some of the poems and I admire the way he putforth his feelings into words. Must read for all hindi poetry lovers.

Giving a review in English to this collection is awkward, but a few songs of adventure in the final pages certainly makes such a lingual switch necessary. The ultimate sign of conviction in one's own craft can be the courage of actually writing an operatic libretto in a language of a culture without such tradition. He is not a poet in the "write a collection" mould. He is a mature and blunt songwriter with a very impeccable rhythm. The book doesn't contain much of his work for cinema but the final section does have some of his most memorable verses ("गोली मार भेजे में" anyone?) I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something structurally different from the regular शेर (couplet) or रुबाई (quatrain).

First time I picked a Hindi poem book and that too by our very own Piyush Mishra. Such prose evoking so many emotions. I am in awe of the magic of words. Special highlight about this book was the story of Laila Majnu in form of a play in the end. So cool. I would pick up some more poetry soon very sure but it needs to be savoured slowly rather than rushed. 🙂

पीयूष मिश्रा की पुस्तक "कुछ इश्क़ किया कुछ काम किया" उनकी काव्य रचनाओं का संकलन है जिसमें उनकी 1990 से 2010 तक की 50 रचनायें शामिल हैं. पुस्तक का शीर्षक फ़ैज़ अहमद "फ़ैज़" की कविता से लिया गया है, जिनके पीयूष मिश्रा प्रशंसक हैं.
पीयूष की भाषा में एक अभूतपूर्व नवीनता है, जो कुछ पाठकों को ख़ूब भायेगी, कुछ को नहीं. इसके बावजूद कवि के विचारों की विशिष्टता तथा प्रस्तुति के सामर्थ्य को नाकारा नहीं जा सकता. कवि की रचनाओं में मनुष्य के अंतर की छटपटाहट एवं उलझन स्पष्ट दिखाई देती है. अपनी रचनाओं द्वारा कवि ने जीवन के सभी पहलुओं, नामतः निराशा, बेफ़िक्री, प्रेम, अनिश्चितता, अभिमान, काम इत्यादि को सुन्दर ढंग से वर्णित किया है. कवि ने हिंदी भाषा में अभी तक अनछुए रहे कुछ विषयों जैसे "वन नाईट स्टैंड" पर भी स्पष्टता से बात की है. कवि अपनी अनेक रचनाओं में छंद के ज्ञान और तुकबंदी पर मज़बूत पकड़ को प्रदर्शित करते हैं.
सभी गुणों के बावजूद कुछ चीज़ें हिंदी के अनुभवी पाठकों को परेशान कर सकती हैं. कई स्थानों पर शब्दों का अनुचित चुनाव एवं प्रयोग अखरता है. कई रचनाओं में कुछ शब्दों का प्रयोग पर्याप्त प्रयास के उपरांत भी दुर्बोध रहता है, उदाहरणार्थ : "इतनी हसीन क्यों हो कमबख़्त... " का बंद "मैं तो ये समझा हूँ..." पूर्णतः अनुपयुक्त लगा है. कई रचनाओं का अर्थ, सन्दर्भ और भाव कवि के अतिरिक्त सभी के लिए अबूझ है. इसे कवि की विफलता कहना अनुचित न होगा. शीर्षक रचना के कई बंद अत्यधिक प्रभावशाली हैं तो कई पूर्णतः व्यर्थ एवं अर्थहीन. इनका अर्थ कदापि कवि स्वयं ही स्पष्ट कर पायें.
इस पुस्तक की मेरी पसंदीदा रचनायें :
1. शराब नहीं...शराबियत...यानी अल्कोहलिज़्म...!
2. अरे, जाना कहाँ है...?
3. मैं हो गया ना...? (मुस्कराते हुए बोल रहा हूँ...)
4. जीना इसी का नाम है...

6. ये साली क्या है ज़िन्दगी...
7. वन नाईट स्टैंड उर्फ़ एक रात्रि का भोग...
8. मेरी सारी प्रेमिकाओं के नाम....

12. मेरे बड़े बेटे जोश के लिए— जब वो डेढ़ साल के थे...

यहाँ पर लेखक, शुद्धिकारक एवं प्रकाशक से एक बहुत बड़ी भूल हुई है. "दो दिल मिल रहे हैं" पर लिखे अंतरे में अन्नु मलिक को श्रेय दिया गया है, जबकि यह गीत नदीम-श्रवण ने संगीतबद्ध किया है. विचित्र है की छठे संकरण तक भी यह भूल सुधारी नहीं गयी.
लैला-मजनू ओपेरा (जिसका उपयोग "आजा नचले" चित्रपट में हुआ है) जैसा संगीतमय नाटक अत्यधिक सुंदरता, कुशलता, काव्यात्मक विविधता और प्रभावशीलता के साथ लिखने के लिये पीयूष मिश्रा अत्यधिक बधाई के पात्र हैं.

" का बंद "मैं तो ये समझा हूँ..." पूर्णतः अनुपयुक्त लगा है. कई रचनाओं का अर्थ, सन्दर्भ और भाव कवि के अतिरिक्त सभी के लिए अबूझ है. इसे कवि की विफलता कहना अनुचित न होगा. शीर्षक रचना के कई बंद अत्यधिक प्रभावशाली हैं तो कई पूर्णतः व्यर्थ एवं अर्थहीन. इनका अर्थ कदापि कवि स्वयं ही स्पष्ट कर पायें.

यहाँ पर लेखक, शुद्धिकारक एवं प्रकाशक से एक बहुत बड़ी भूल हुई है. "दो दिल मिल रहे हैं" पर लिखे अंतरे में अन्नु मलिक को श्रेय दिया गया है, जबकि यह गीत नदीम-श्रवण ने संगीतबद्ध किया है. विचित्र है की छठे संकरण तक भी यह भूल सुधारी नहीं गयी.
लैला-मजनू ओपेरा (जिसका उपयोग "आजा नचले" चित्रपट में हुआ है) जैसा संगीतमय नाटक अत्यधिक सुंदरता, कुशलता, काव्यात्मक विविधता और प्रभावशीलता के साथ लिखने के लिये पीयूष मिश्रा अत्यधिक बधाई के पात्र हैं.

Piyush Mishra is phenomenal in acting and after hearing Husna in Coke studio, was a big fan of his style!
Hearing Husna in his baritone voice is an experience worth remembering.
With lot of expectations due to his immense talent, purchased this book on Kindle. However, to be honest I am not that impressed and it looks like repetitive.
There are few line which pack a lot of punch...some of the examples are as below...
जिन्दगी में यही सीख मिली कि 'स्वीकार' कर लेना चाहिए! वे खुद के पाप हों या दूसरों के । सुकून मिलना शुरू हो जाता है ।
वो काम भला क्या काम हुआ जो नहीं अकेले दम पे हो
वो इश्क़ भला क्या इश्क़ हुआ जो ख़तम एक चुम्बन पे हो..
जिसको समझे हो तुम मजाक वो दर्द कभी बन जाएगा फिर दर्द की आदत पड़ जाएगी अर्ज ना कुछ कर पाओगे...

सो चुकी थीं हलके-हलके

So, here is the book review of a book by Piyush Mishra, throws insights into the world of modern poetry and shayari.
Piyush mishra has written 'Kuch ishq kiya kuch kaam kiya', an anthology of his poems on love, social issues, etc. The book's title is inspired from a Nazm of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Kuch ishq kiya kuch kaam kiya. Piyush Mishra has his own unique and weird style of poetry which I really admire. Some of the poems in this book are amazing, rest are okay. I personally had a lot of expectations from this book, a little disappointed I will say. Overall, It is a good one-time read. For all the poetry enthusiasts, do give it a try.
Pass it on to someone after you have read it.

I have seen piyush Mishra’s so many interviews and talks, that many of the poems that were there in the book, I could hear in his voice.
Like anything, there were bits of the book that i really liked, and others that i did not enjoy so much. The best part of the book was the end Laila-majnu bit. I could see the whole thing playing on the stage. The writing was so powerful and beautiful that I could imagine myself playing all the parts on a stage, despite being horrible at acting. Such was the power of his written word that a terrible actor imagined himself acting. Jijo piyush sir.

किताब को मै नही समझ पाया या फिर किताब मुझे नही समझ पाई । किताब के 2-3 नमजो को छोड दे तो पियुष मिश्रा, अपने दोस्तो को धन्यवाद करते ज्यादा नजर आते है। शयारी की कुछ ज्यादा समझ है, किताब को पढिए, समझिये, आनन्द लिजिये। अगर मेरी तरह यूट्यूब पर पियुष मिश्रा की वीडियो देखकर पढ्ने का मन कर रहा है तो वीडियो एक बार, दो बार देखीये, किताब मत पढिए।

Very fine collection of Poems of Piyush Mishra. One can certainly feel the life stages of Piyush Mishra in his writings. Some of the poems like Kuch ishq kiya, Jiyo Allah miyan, Priyatama, One night stand, Meri saari Premikao ke naam and final Laila Majnu Opera are best part of the book. Worth a read.

August 12, 2025this is my first indian poetry. cannot rate this book as i’m new to this area. initially, it was just a lot of hindi words for me and nothing more. i liked one poem and the last act v much. art is not only about feeling but also inspiring and it did inspire me to write poetry in hindi, so there’s that.

Piyush Mishra has an interesting life story and as he states he was a victim of "Alcoholism" around 2005. The poems in this book reflect his pain and nostalgia in a good way. I felt that the life story was required to completely understand a lot of this book.

Some poems are good, some are not. this guy is mad, mad in a sense creative in his own style. little bit weird but still book is okay. read with love for literature. Love for creative form. I think this is one time joy book.

Piyush Mishra has always been my favorite and I don't think I need to write anything for this book. One of the best poetry books I have ever read. I loved each and every poem of this book . Just go for it without a doubt and you will love it for sure.
