Overall I think this is a really good book and guide for students of motion design or designers that want to be introduced to the world of motion. It introduces most of the concepts and touches all the fields and ways of animating. However I find that sometimes it was too superficial and didn’t give the depth it promises. For example very basic concepts are overexplained, but the most complex are simply mentioned as if they were common knowledge.
One of the best things in this book are the “Professional perspectives” which are interviews and tips from big motion graphers so you get to see and know about the best in this field and learn from them.
And I should add: it is LONG.

One of those textbooks that you actually should read every word of. The included industry interviews were insightful about both the industry and design in general. Written by a SCAD instructor, so heavily SCAD-centric, but that's OK. My only real complaint is that I didn't like the wide horizontal format, especially in the paperback edition. Awkward to hold and read. Also, I would have made the industry interviews more visually distinct from the regular textbook sections, but that's being picky.

This book was fantastic! I learned a lot from it, I discovered many awesome artists and books as well. It is full of great quotes and sayings of great current artists in the industry. So inspiring as well. Besides you get the sense how things work in the industry. very well arranged. It has a great structure and a must-read for motion designers.

Design for motion is the combination of image-making and storytelling.

Really good, open up a whole new perspective to motion design. Getting to know the masters and their work, a lot of reference and able to get the understanding of how the masters develop their idea and execute them. This is a must read for graphic designer, director, cinematographer and DPs, and visual artist all over the world

It starts to run out of fuel somewhere in the middle of the book. Regardless, it works as a functional introduction to motion design.
