One by one, they disappear. The ship Demeter is traveling from Romania to Whitby, England with a mysterious cargo of coffins. As the crew is beset by an horrific killer, the remaining sailors turn on each other in fear and paranoia. Only when it's too late do they realize their cargo carries the vampire Dracula. An original full-color horror story based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, Forty Coffins is the story of Dracula's journey to England told from the point-of-view of the ship's crew.

Rodolfo Santullo (Mexico D.F., 1979) es periodista, escritor, guionista y editor de historietas al frente de Grupo Belerofonte. Autoeditor desde 1999 con "Montevideo Ciudad Gris", integró la revista "Quimera" en 2003 y desde 2005 publica mediante GB. Sus novelas gráficas "Los últimos dÌas del Graf Spee" y "Acto de Guerra" (ambas con dibujos de Matías Bergara) han sido ganadoras en los Fondos Concursables para la Cultura que otorga el Ministerio de Educación y Cultura del Uruguay. Su novela gráfica "Cena con Amigos" (con dibujos de Marcos Vergara) recibió el galardón de "Mejor Guión" en los premios "Solano López" que se otorgaron en la Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires 2010. Junto a Matías Bergara además, resultó ganador del Premio de Historieta Juan Carlos Onetti, organizado por el MEC en 2009, por su adaptación del relato "Esbjerg en la costa". En 2011 publica "Valizas" nuevamente junto a Marcos Vergara. Fue merecedor de tres nuevos Fondos Concursables en la edición 2011, por sus novelas gráficas "Zitarrosa" (con dibujos de Max Aguirre), "Dengue" (con dibujos de Matías Bergara) y "El Club de los Ilustres" (con dibujos de Guillermo Hansz). Ha publicado además como escritor, la novela "Las otras caras del verano" (Amuleto 2008, en colaboración con Martín Bentancor, ganadora de una mención de honor en el Concurso Literario Municipal 2002); el libro de cuentos "Perro Come Perro" (Artefato 2006), la novela "Cementerio Norte" (Trilce 2009, ganadora en los Fondos Concursables para la Cultura 2008), la novela "Sobres Papel Manila" (Estuario 2010, 2do. Premio en el Premio Anual de Literatura del MEC 2009) y la novela "Aquel Viejo Tango" (Estuario 2011, en colaboración con Martín Bentancor). Desde principios de 2010 integra el staff de la Revista Fierro que se edita en Buenos Aires, Argentina, colaborando frecuentemente con el dibujante Dante Ginevra. Como periodista, ha participado en medios de prensa como Posdata, La República, Brecha, Freeway y la diaria. Actualmente colabora con la separata O2 de El Observador.

40 Coffins by Rodolfo Santullo, with art by Jok, takes one of the most intriguing yet often overlooked episodes of Bram Stoker’s Dracula—the voyage of the Demeter—and turns it into a gripping, self-contained descent into dread. By focusing on the ship that carried the Transylvanian soil in which Dracula rested on his journey to England, Santullo explores the myth from an oblique angle, enriching both the legend and the original novel rather than simply retelling it.
The screenplay is tight, confident, and deeply respectful of Stoker’s world while still finding room to surprise. There’s a strong sense of inevitability throughout the story, an ever-growing tension that mirrors the doomed fate of the Demeter and its crew. The narrative feels both classic and fresh, expanding on the gothic horror without losing its literary roots.
Jok’s artwork is striking and unconventional, perfectly suited to the story’s oppressive mood. The style is strange in the best possible way, evoking the later work of Mike Mignola (Hellboy) with its heavy shadows, stark compositions, and unsettling minimalism. The visuals don’t just illustrate the story—they haunt it, amplifying the sense of isolation, menace, and creeping horror.
40 Coffins is a smart, atmospheric, and deeply satisfying read for fans of Dracula, gothic horror, and graphic novels that dare to explore the shadows between the lines of well-known myths. Highly recommended.

Lo leí pq queria algo corto y facil de leer pero no me mato la verdad. Al ser un libro tan corto no te encariñas con los personajes ni nada.

Positivo:
-Las ilustraciones estan buenas.
-El misterio me intereso un poco.
-Es corto

Negativo:
-No me encariñe con ningun personaje.
-Los dibujos de los personajes me parecieron todos iguales entonces no los distinguia.
-No entendi que mierda paso al final ni que era lo que llevaban. No se si tiene que ser asi pero queria saber.

A boat rolls into a harbor with no crew on board save for the dead captain tied to wheel. He left a log detailing the murders of the entire crew by a vampire. Going in, as a reader, I knew it was going to be a vampire but the book still dolls out that information slowly giving it an eerie, creepy feel.

Found an English ebook so goodreads needs to update this.
Nothing to note. I like the concept of a trip planned around the item's needs, but lacked any real eerie result by not having a slower beginning and not ending at the reveal.
