Author Q & A with D. F. Bailey
Q. The book trailer for Lone Hunter says “One billion dollars. Two killers. Three ways to die.” Tell us more.
DFB. One billion is the estimated value of the cryptocurrency — GIGcoin — about to be launched by a global financial cartel. One of the killers is known as Lone Hunter. I won't reveal the second killer now, but readers will recognize him from a previous novel. As for the three ways to die: none is very pretty, but the third way … let’s just say it’ll make you gasp!
Q. Who is the Lone Hunter? DFB. The Lone Hunter is a Russian oligarch who came through the ranks of the Soviet KGB. When he was an operative in Washington, he met Senator Franklin Whitelaw. Following the Soviet collapse they use their connections to build a global financial network based on a cryptocurrency like bitcoin.
Q. Is Eve still working with Finch? DFB. Now more than ever. They're a new power couple in the fight against organized crime. Her PI skills and intelligence combined with Finch's dogged determination to break the story at any cost — together they make a powerful partnership. Plus they have this unstoppable personal affection for one another.
Q. And Sochi? DFB. Yes. He's the brains behind the technothriller part of the novel. Without him, the "techno" component of the trilogy wouldn't exist.
Q. What about setting? This book takes place outside San Francisco? DFB. It begins in Russia but shifts back to San Francisco. There are also key scenes in Hawaii and Washington, DC. It’s definitely the most globe-spanning novel in the trilogy. I think readers will really enjoy the quick pace and shifting scenes in Lone Hunter.
Q. Will there be a fourth book in the Finch series? DFB. Most definitely. I really enjoyed writing the Finch Trilogy. There will be a fourth book, but it’ll be a stand-alone story that builds on the characters, setting and atmospherics of the trilogy. I even have some notions for a fifth episode. It’s much easier to bring them out one at a time rather than launching three at once — which is a huge challenge. Having said that, it’s a pleasure to publish a brand new crime trilogy. It’s fun to have a good scare once in a while. And good things come in threes.
Q. Finally, so far all three novels are published as ebooks only. Will you bring them out in print? DFB. Yes, as quality paperbacks.

I've now read the 3 Will Finch books and have found them to be a good read, I am looking forward to the next book in the series and in the meantime I'm going to try 'fire eyes'
Solid plot and solid characters, just like the two Will Finch novels that preceded it.
Will Finch (investigative journalist) and Eve Noon (ex-police-officer-turned-private-investigator) step out of “Stone Eater” and right into the action of “Lone Hunter”. Having read the two previous Will Finch novels (starting with “Bone Maker”), the storyline smoothly moves from book to book – which is part of the attraction to me. A new reader getting into the series with books two and three is going to have to deal with references to the previous novel, but each is stand-alone. In other words, make sure you start with “Bone Maker” and settle in for a very, very good ride. Kidnapping, suicide, a crooked cop, encrypted data, a police cover-up, a crotchety editor, digital currency, an ex-KGB officer, action scenes, and lots of suspense. D. F. Baily writes smoothly, keeps all of the elements of an interesting story straight, and gives you characters (good and bad) you will get to know very well. I have already purchased Book #4 – “Second Life”. If you like stories with a theme of investigative reporting, I highly recommend A. C. Fuller’s Alex Vane thrillers.
I really liked the way this story wrapped up the trilogy. The bad guys got justice served, though there were other good guys lost beforehand. Will and Eve will make a strong pairing in future stories that I hope will be written. I highly recommend this and the previous two books.
Grandfather Ded Vitaly took his Grandson Alexei Malinin hunting for rabbits. Fiona Page (San Francisco eXpress reporter) was quite sure Justin Whitelaw (Whitelaw, Whitelaw & Joss) had drugged her. Café Claude bistro. Will Finch (San Francisco eXpress reporter) introduced Eve Noon to Jean-Paul Boisvert (Parisian). Then he asked about Justin Whitelaw.
Gianna Whitelaw Justin’s 1/2-sister had been murdered. Toby Squire had bludgeoned Eve with a golf club & left her to die in a locked cupboard swarming with rats. Will had found/saved her. Sochi (housemate, quantum cryptography) was going to check out the flash drive Will had found in Gianna’s flat. Alexei Malinin graduated from Moscow State U (English Language, International Studies). Then he entered the 401st KGB training school in Okhta, Leningrad, where he met Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (Russia President). 9/1987, Alexei met with Stepan Krupin to train him as an assistant communist Party propaganda voice/distributer. On 11/26, Operation Black Night Alexei’s life almost ended. Stepan was killed. Wally Gimbel (San Francisco eXpress managing editor) told Will the last edition of the San Francisco Post is being printed as we speak. Sochi told Will & Eve about the contents on the flash drive. Alexei hoped 1 day she could escape. Alexei met with Dean Whitelaw & Franklin Whitelaw at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu. Raymond Toeplitz (Whitelaws’ finance mathematician, Oxford, Stanford PhD) had constructed the framework/software to regulate GIGcoin. Dean had been murdered & the GIGcoin software disappeared. Eve told Finch Sochi’s been moved to ICU. She later died ricin poisoning.
Why was Raymond murdered?
What did Eve ask Will?

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written financial thriller book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great financial thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an amazingly easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; Catchword Publishing; 1 edition; LisaatmanyBooks; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
This story started with the introduction of Alexei, the Russian known as the Lone Hunter and a member of the KGB, who would play a major role in this story. This story also introduced Justin Whitelaw ,whose family was involved with GIGcoin- an alternative currency, who had kidnapped Fiona Page a member of the same news organization as Will.
Fiona was able to escape and Justin followed her and ultimately committed suicide by jumping in front of a subway train once he could see that he would not be able to recapture her. Will and his girlfriend Eve, had been searching for her. Fiona had gone to meet Justin to interview him and find out if he had any information related to the murder of Gianna, his sister.
Eve had found at the scene where Gianna was murdered a flash drive. Will had a neighbor Sochi in his building attempt to break into the flash drive to determine what was on it. Once Sochi was able to find out what was on the flash drive, the software program for GIGcoin was discovered. Attempting to find out what the program was all about, Will, Eve and Sochi went to Hawaii to meet up with Alexei to obtain the 1st key needed to unlock the software program. During the meeting, one of Alexi's members was killed by an unscrupulous detective from San Francisco.
Will, Eve and Sochi returned back to San Francisco, but Sochi died from Ricin poison he received at the airport bathroom in Hawaii. Will and Eve continued obtaining information on GIGcoin and faced many threats as a result.
If you want to find out how this story got resolved and whow GIGcoin came into play, then I recommend that you read this book. There is a lot more action than I have stated.
The characters interactions are well done and the action is quite riveting.
Very Good Read I picked up this book on a website for giveaways to help author's increase their mailing list of readers. Not having read this author before, I didn't know what to expect. Well, I got more than I expected. This book has all the elements of a good spy story, There are Russians, Americans, even some from other countries though in smaller mentions. There is skulduggery and intrigue, misdirection and confessions, even a few killings. But it is a story fit for the newspaper our two protagonists are working for as reporters. There is a kidnapping where a pretty young lady is held and raped repeatedly until she manages to escape. There is a plot to garner about a billion dollars in GIGcoin, a new money concept along similar lines to bitcoin. There are plots and counter plots to get the cash. A well written book, it keeps the reader enthralled from beginning to end. I can easily say there is no really good spot to say "OK, that;s enough for tonight," and go to bed. I have discovered a new author to read, and am going in search of the first two books in this series and then whatever else is out there. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Great mystery! A real thriller. Characters played their parts excellently. Will Finch was true to form. A little crazy, but pretty sharp with good instincts. Eve Noon was at her best. Smart, persistent, down-to-earth, resourceful.
What baffles me is the name of the book. Lone Hunter is the nickname of the villain in the story, yet he doesn't play the major role until near the end of the story. And he is a little hard to figure out, as is the policeman, Detective Witkowsky. But I guess that is because he is a bit of a nut case.
I wavered between 4 and 5 stars, and if I could, I would have given this book 4 and a half, but since I was happy with the ending, I gave it 5. LOL.
Another well written Will Finch story. He is a driven reporter, and his past is part of the driver. The people he knows also drive him to do what he does. His sense of right and wrong drive him to reveal the truth and push through any obstacle. Unfortunately pushing ahead has repercussions. People get hurt and people die. But the reader will learn a lot about Will and his friends.
The mystery never ends. There are twists and turns that will pull you along. If you love a good mystery this will work well for you.
Okay, it's entirely my fault. I thought that although this is part 3 of a series it would be a stand alone novel. It isn't. I highly recommend reading the first two parts first otherwise you'll be left with too many missing pieces of the puzzle just like me. As for the thriller factor, it's not as high as it could be.
Bailey weaves an exciting tale as Will Finch moves along his path to discover the secrets around the political family and their connection to an international plot. Exciting and intense conclusion to the trilogy that will keep you up late!
An amazing Will Finch story that takes a criminal intent and stops it short! Will is sent to cover a murder, which leads to a huge conspiracy. His girlfriend, Eve Noon, is also involved, as she turns out, indirectly, to be the deceased persons heir. Incredible things happen as they try to stop this master plan! Great read!
Good series, even if you have to get all the books because of the cliff hangers at the end...thanks that I have Kindle Unlimited! Nice change of perspective...from a journalist instead of law enforcement.
This is the 3rd in this series featuring Will Finch the journalist. I do recommend reading in order as a plot sort of arcs over the books.
Very good book! Engaging and action filled. All kinds of hot topics...politics, media, and cover ups. All of the main characters are well developed. I will continue reading this series.
Will and Eve are still caught up in the murder of Gianna. Things go south, quickly. Murders and attempted murders abound in this book! Definitely a read, you won't be able to put down, until the very end!!!
While I received an ARC of this book, I have made an independent decision to post this review. This book is the latest Will Finch story - and we get to go along for the ride! It is set in San Francisco, California - I loved it!
Well, I guess I got my answers but the delivery wasn’t my favorite. This series keeps falling flat for me, so now that this whole issue is pretty much solved, I’m going to make peace with myself and not pursue it any further.
Just couldn’t finish this book. The writing just wasn’t smooth and the book seemed to bounce from one segment to another. I made it half way through and realized that I didn’t care about any of the characters or what happened to them.
Another pulse pounding episode that you can't put down. The author has got you cheering on the good guys with well thought out story and non Stop action
I thoroughly enjoyed the Will Finch and Eve Noon trilogy. The author wove in explanations of the latest technologies and Bitcoin in ways that were understandable. Definitely a new author to follow.
