Mrr: a post-apocalyptic race through time

Rate this book
It's almost over.

Two hundred years after the apocalypse poisoned the atmosphere and almost ended humanity, the last remaining sanctuary is in danger of dying from lack of oxygen. Desperate measures require Mrr, a time scientist, to return in time to find a substance that will save the Dome.

At stake? The ultimate threat: extinction. Only Mrr can stop it. But Mrr finds himself in a bewildering new world and makes critical misjudgments that threaten to ruin, not save, the Dome. The urgency ramps up as mutants discover the Domers have been stealing their resources for years. The Mole People prepare to attack the Dome and take back what they feel is rightfully theirs. Alternately hilarious and deadly serious, this intense chase through time finally explodes in an unexpected climax that will blow your mind.

Timothy Frerik’s “Mrr” (pronounced “myrrh” as in frankincense and myrrh) is a gripping, imaginative, multi-layered tale which could become a dystopian classic in the vein of “A Canticle For Leibowitz” and “Soylent Green.” It is also a rollicking romp up and down the corridors of time, featuring cultural clashes between future and present (or present and past, depending on your POV), with an occasional (and unintentionally ribald - on the part of the narrator) flash of deadpan (bedpan?) humor (on the part of the author) resulting therefrom. What’s that all about? No spoiler here: read the book.

I am a huge fan of science fiction and I loved Freriks' first book, Renaissance, so I wanted to try Mrr. I was not disappointed. I was drawn in right from the first page and it didn't let me go. It was certainly a unique and complex story. Great read. I loved the relationship between Mrr and Marge, but even the bad guys were unique and captivating. There were parts where I laughed really hard. And the ending was an incredible ride. Another great book by Tim Freriks. Can't wait for the next one. Also waiting for the sequel to Renaissance, Mr. Freriks!

I love sci-fi stuff and especially original stuff. Mrr is very original and went by super fast, I couldn't put it down. The one problem I could find wasn't even that big of a problem and I noticed that someone else mentioned it and that is that the mole men mutant things didn't show up till like half way through the book. Other than that little thing it was one of the best sci-fi books I've read in a long time. Clearly I liked it or I wouldn't have gave it 5 stars!

Freriks truly has a talent for crafting words that allow the reader to escape to a literary wonder world filled with vivd imagery and dialogue. His characters are full of life and rich stories. I finished the book anxiously awaiting the next creation that Freriks will have to offer!
