~ He doesn't know her, but he'll find her, and when he does, he will make her pay. ~

All Tyler Karras wants is to enjoy life with his expectant bride. What he gets instead is a graveside seat at her funeral. With the woman who killed her uncharged and still free, all Ty wants now is revenge.

His brother, Nick, has dangerous connections and suggests a sadistic plan: grab the woman responsible and hand her over to his associates--sex-traffickers in San Francisco's Russian Mafia. They offer Ty more than he dreamed possible. In exchange for the woman, they'll finally let his brother leave the business for good--with his debt wiped clean and his heart still beating.

There's just one problem: Ty kidnaps the wrong woman.

Now he must protect Hannah Maguire from the very enemy he's unleashed, but the Russians are holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete their deal. Caught in a no-win situation, Ty must find a way to save himself, his brother, and the woman, but with the Russian Mafia, even two out of three makes for very long odds.

For fans of 'Captive in the Dark', the 'Consequences' series and other Action Romance novels... move over bad boys, there's a new kidnapper on the block. But he isn't a bad boy... not really. He's a tormented, lonely, lost man on a path of vengeance, driven by guilt and sorrow.

"The lyrics,
'Tell me would you kill to save a life...would you kill to prove you're right?'
They've often made me wonder, what would make a good man do something...you know, really awful, like kill or whatever. And well, now...I guess I have my answer don't I?"

This is a fast paced, intense, high energy story about guilt, all consuming grief and learning how to forgive. It's harrowing and unpredictable. It had me in tears and it had me on the edge of seat. I read until 3.20am last night, when I finally finished, putting it down only to end up dreaming about the characters and the intricate plot. The twists and turns are unthinkable and totally gripping.

"We could probably do it, figure out a plausible way to really get back her, to completely ruin her life. How hard could it be?"

Well, isn't that just the million dollar question. If only they'd known how hard it could be!

"He needs to learn there are consequences to his poor decisions."
"And if the consequence is death, Jillian? What lesson is there to learn then?"

This is something Tyler Karras is about to find out in every way imaginable.

Whilst The Mistaken does involve a love story, it is so much more than that. It's gritty action drama, first and foremost, with a love story thrown in on the side to add to the intensity (if that's even possible).

"If I can help make you whole again, then maybe I can be, too. And I need that, Ty. I need that more than you could ever know."

The first half of the story is completely heartbreaking. Although, I have to say, I didn't warm to Jillian, I found her spoilt and reckless, Tyler's love for his new wife was obvious. Therefore, the effect her death had on him was so sad. I cried buckets at the hospital scene and then again at the funeral. You could feel his torment and pain rolling off of the pages.

"Have you ever loved or even wanted someone so much you didn't want to live if they weren't there right next to you every minute of the day?"

I wanted to slap Nick, Tyler's wayward brother! Hard! How could somebody lead their own flesh and blood down such a dark, destructive path? Urgh, it drove me to distraction. Watching Tyler deteriorate before my very eyes. I wanted to jump into my Kindle and shake the both of them.

I was all too aware that life wasn't free, that it costs us each something, but I had already paid more than my fair share, giving up that gave me incentive to live in the first place. Life had cost me everything. I had nothing left to lose.

But, after Jillian's death, the book spirals into realms I hadn't anticipated for even a second. The sense of danger and hopelessness is palpable. I truly had no idea how this was going to end and couldn't see a way out for the characters.

I'd traded my soul for the chance to get even, bartering with the Devil with a life that was not my own.

I liked Hannah. She was strong and determined, although battling her own demons, and ultimately she was compassionate and human! Whilst I can't imagine ever falling for a guy who had wronged me in the way Tyler had her, I was willing them to be together and I liked that Tyler's feelings for Hannah drove the latter part of the story.

"I can't take back what I've done, but I can spend forever making up for it, if you'd just give me the chance."

I felt such a huge need to protect Tyler. Seeing the transition from the man he used to be, to the monster he became was painful. I wanted to reach out and protect him, tell him everything was going to be okay, strip him of his guilt and provide the love that he craved and missed so desperately.

I was crazy with grief and loneliness, and most of all, with intense, overwhelming guilt that burned through every cell of my being hotter than a Devil's anvil.

The last quarter of this book... OH. My. God. Cage fighting. Murder. Rape. Hostages. The Russian mob. FBI. And a whooole lotta blood. But, Christ, I couldn't tear myself away from it.

"This is not about money. This is about honor and integrity."

And Nick... I won't include any spoilers, but aaaaah, I sobbed! Soo did not see it all coming! Ms. Thompson is a bold writer and her fearlessness makes this story so real.

The ending was in no way predictable. At all. I could not have figured this book out if you paid me. It was original and intriguing and I commend Nancy Thompson for such an imaginative, complex novel. Madness, utter madness!

I saw the regret in his eyes, the remorse that consumed him, and the pain of knowing his decision was more costly than he could have ever imagined possible.

In conclusion, this book was nothing like I expected. To be honest, I don't really know what I expected. But this was so much better. I urge fans of action, thriller romance novels to read this book. You won't be disappointed.

All we are is who we surround ourselves with and let into our hearts.

TWO POINT FIVE STARS

THE MISTAKEN has been sitting on my kindle for a couple years waiting to be read. Last year I bought the audio version knowing it would motivate me to clean up my ever growing TBR shelf. I figured since I hadn't read it yet I could just listen to it.

Within the first two hours of listening the narrator experiences the deaths of his parents, sister and pregnant wife. At this point, I wasn't sure if there was going to be enough characters left for the story to continue on. But with the introduction of a new character "The Mistaken" the plot plows forward.

While I wasn't invested in the story I did continue to listen in hopes it would grab my attention. One thing that seemed out of place was the relevance of the narrator and his brother both being born in different countries... which lead to them having different accents. Maybe it stood out more, to me, since I was listening to the audio but either way it seemed irrelevant to the plot.

Anyways...

★★★☆ 3.5 Stars!

From the moment you start The Mistaken, you are taken on a wild, fast-paced, action-filled roller coaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. There were so many plot twists and unexpected events that it all became a bit too much at one point, but luckily the romance-filled part of the story provided some much appreciated reprieve from all the action and suspense. At first, I had a bit difficulty getting into the story and being able to connect to the characters, but as the story continued I got more and more hooked.

The Mistaken is the story of Tyler Karras, a happily married successful business owner who's life is brutally disrupted by a series of events that take away most of his family and later on his wife and unborn child. Determined to seek revenge for the unjustified death of the love of his life, he and his brother come up with a plan to capture the woman who's to blame for the wife's death and deliver her to San Fransisco's most notorious Russian crime lord.

Except, when the moment comes to kidnap the woman in question, he ends up capturing her look-alike... And now, he's not only brought in an innocent into the entire mess that is his life, but he'll also has to show up empty handed to the meeting with the Russian criminal. And unless he comes up with a solution soon, his life as well as that of his brother and the innocent woman, Hannah, are all at stake.

What follows next is a nail-biting, suspenseful series of events in which Ty and Hannah try to stay out of the hands of the ruthless criminals that are after them while at the same time trying to figure out if the undeniable attraction between them is worth pursuing...

I won't go in to too much detail about the rest of the plot, but I will say that there was never a dull moment throughout the story. I was also thankful for the dual POV, because it provided a much clearer insight on what both Tyler and Hannah were experiencing, even though they both acted a bit impulsive and careless in my opinion.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this romantic suspense. Author Nancy S. Thompson sure knows how to keep you guessing and gasping with surprise while reading a story and if you're looking for a fast-paced, moderately steamy, action-filled romance, I would highly recommend giving this series a try!

Mild Spoilers -mature content reader discretion is advised.
4.5 STARS out of 5
Genre:Romantic Suspense
WARNING: This review contains crude language and mild spoilers; mild spoilers which are also found in the synopsis provided on Goodreads none will hinder your reading experience.

The Mistaken definitely caught me off guard. Though it is not my usual choice in reading material the detour it provided was very much appreciated. The twist and turns right up to the very end had my mind spinning.

Nick and Tyler Karras are brothers yet they’re complete opposites. Were Tyler is the settled down good one, Nick is the one who parties who is always getting in to trouble or maybe trouble just finds him. Either way Tyler constantly has to bail Nick out of a jam and recently this trouble seems to be mafia connected.

In between cleaning up mess after mess his brother makes Tyler and his girlfriend Jillian get married. Now expecting their first child together life may not be perfect but the expectation of their newborn’s arrival has overshadowed all the bad. And thank goodness for that because things were really really bad at one point.

However things can change quickly in life and when Jillian is faced with an injustice and the cops do nothing... Everything starts to take a downward spiral as Jillian seeks to face Erin; the woman who should rightfully be behind bars for a crime committed against her.

THEN

 photo tumblr_inline_miin023rwM1qz4rgp_zps7c8db52e.gif

All so suddenly tragedy strikes leaving Tyler a widower and desperate; in a place no man wants to be.

An angry alcoholic, with nothing left to lose.

‘There was no hope in my heart, no reason to stop my downward spiral and straighten out my life. The very realization only made me want to drink more. And I did, for the rest of the day and most of the night.’

Tyler’s younger brother Nick knows exactly what it feels like to be in his shoes and he feeds the demons that have a pidgin hold on Tyler. You see, Nick crossed over to the dark side a few years back after a life altering tragedy changed him. Pain filled drunken confessions bring to life an evil plan to hurt Erin.
And Nick adds fuel to the flames when he uses his connections with the Russian mafia help him and Tyler do the unthinkable.

The plan is to kidnap Erin and sell her into the world of sex trafficking.

And that is when everything goes super duper wrong.
THEY KIDNAP THE WRONG GIRL and it’s too late to turn back now because the deal was made, they must deliver the girl. OR ELSE.

Hannah…Poor Hannah my heart hurt for this woman. I can’t explain why but Hannah is The Mistaken .

Was Hannah at the wrong place at the wrong time? I think not. But what I think does not matter because once she is spotted she officially becomes the target.

Tyler can’t do it. He cannot turn Hannah over to be a sex slave and he vows to protect her. But how good is the word of a drunk, with nothing left to lose?

Running from the mafia brings Tyler and Hannah closer. But how does she know if she can really trust him. Can he correct his mistake and hand over the right girl in enough time? Heck, is that even an option now?

 photo 4352bda6-e47b-41b4-a996-33fdf1ed579b_zps17ef3f8f.jpg

Slowly Hannah begins to fall for her captor, Tyler, who has wounds that are still raw from the death of his wife.

My Thoughts
Seriously people READ THIS BOOK! It’s different and as you read and see all the pieces fall in to place as the innocent lives of Tyler and Hannah are woven together. You will be left speechless.
The tension between these two brothers is crazy; you can definitely feel the jealousy that one harbors for the other. They love one another yet hate each others actions, this caused for some really tense moments throughout the book.

This Mistaken was high octane. There are moments when it moved fast and then moments when it slowed but the slowdowns only came in the first 30% after that the book takes off. So many lives are affected and so many emotions play out. Readers will get a little bit of everything

** EDIT ** I got to about 75% but I'm putting it down for now... I don't think this is quite what I wanted at the moment. That being said, this book has a bunch of really high ratings so it must just not be meshing with my mood right now. I got about three quarters in but honestly the book kind of lost me a few chapters in, I was just hoping it would build to something that grabbed me. I just found a fair number of things (including the dialogue) unbelievable and had some serious issues with several of the characters' decisions and actions. Overall, I just wasn't 'feeling' it. But it could just be me - I mean, the ratings are really good so who knows... maybe you'll love it?

Having enjoyed some of her later work, I sought to find and read the early novels of Nancy S. Thompson. While I am used to her political thrillers, this one was just as captivating and had me turning pages well into the night. Tyler Karras has suffered loss and hoped to put that in his rearview mirror with a new wife and an exciting life before him. However, things take a turn when Jill seeks to get answers about something in her personal life and is killed in a horrible car accident. Tyler is beside himself, more so when he learns that the woman responsible has not been charged and remains free to live her life. Seeing red, Tyler wants revenge immediately. Reaching out to his brother, Nick, Tyler hopes to make Erin Anderson pay for what she's done. He will collect her and send her to the men Nick knows within Russian Organised Crime to do with her as they want. Tyler is ready to enact the plan, but something goes wrong when he grabs the wrong woman. Rather than Erin, Tyler has Hannah Macguire, who knows nothing about all this and yet has her own beef with Erin Anderson. Unable to call off the plan, Tyler must now protect Hannah from the men he's unleashed, knowing that his own debt won't be paid. Rushing to find a solution that ensures safety, Tyler realises that he will have to make the gamble of his life to keep the fallout minimal. Nancy S. Thompson does a wonderful job with this novel and teases things as being continued with a follow-up book.

Nancy S. Thompson has always had a writing style I enjoy, focusing on the action as she pushes things along. The story's premise is sound and fueled by a great motivator, allowing the chapters to click along while ensuring the story gains needed momentum. While things can get a little intense at times, Thompson has reason for all she puts in the story and keeps the reader eager to figure out what's next. I could not put the book down, as I needed answers in short order.

Characters are developed in such a way that there is a need to connect with them. Thompson not only creates strong core characters, but she tosses narrative perspectives to give first-hand accounts of their points of view. From Tyler Karras to Hannah Macguire and a few in between, the reader is able to connect with them, learning their backstories and some development along the way. This connection with the reader helps create a better reading experience as well.

Plot points are essential to effective thrillers and I have never had an issue with Thompson's use of them. She formulates a key path and then tosses in twists to keep things from becoming too predictable. I was surprised at times and left to wonder how things would resolve themselves at others, but always trusted Nancy S. Thompson would guide the way properly. I am eager to see how the second novel in the series adds to this one, as there was so much going on and many loose ends that beg for resolution.

Kudos, Madam Thompson, for a great thriller that kept me hooked!

This book is amazing. It is a non-stop thrill ride that will keep your pulse pounding and keep you turning pages well into the night. Meet Tyler Karras. He has a great life. Until he doesn’t. Karras’ entire life falls apart before his eyes, sending him spiraling down into a hell of despair and self-loathing. When his brother Nick, who has ties to the San Francisco Russian mafia, suggests a despicable plan to exact revenge on the woman who inadvertently robbed Tyler of everything, Tyler readily agrees. In an alcohol and grief-soaked haze, Tyler mistakenly targets the wrong woman, Hannah Maguire. Although Tyler comes to his senses and realizes that revenge is not the panacea he was seeking, the realization comes too late. He has already plunged himself, his brother and now an unsuspecting Hannah deep into the seedy, violent underworld that is ruled by the Russian mafia—and the mob does not forgive and forget.

What I especially loved about this book is how Thompson deftly handles the plot twists. I never saw what was coming next! I read a lot of thrillers and I can usually predict the course of a novel by the second or third chapter. It was exceedingly refreshing to read a book that kept me so enthralled and actually made me gasp aloud. All the incredible twists were not what I expected and for me, that made this book very original. I love a book with good, unpredictable twists in its plot that reads well and keeps you turning pages even when you should be doing other things! This book does that.

What I also love about this book, among other things, is that it is fast-paced and wildly entertaining and it also has depth. This book is not just a run-of-the-mill man-and-woman-in-jeopardy thriller. It asks how far would you go? If someone took everything from you, how far would you go to get revenge? If someone you loved was in deep trouble, how far would you go to protect them, to help them? This book asks how well do you really know yourself? Can a good person do unspeakable things? Is there redemption after touching the fiery face of hell? Tyler Karras is the answer to these questions and he does not disappoint. You will feel his struggles, his grief and despair, his guilt and self-hatred in your bones. You will cheer desperately as he tries to set things right. Hannah acts as a kind of foil for him, meeting the unexpected terrors that Tyler has mistakenly set upon her with calm determination. You will cringe at what she has to go through but you’ll respect her character all the more for the strength and grace she shows. She is Tyler’s redemption personified. These characters are complex and well-drawn and the terrifying moments that draw them together make the moments of intimacy that much more poignant. You will connect to them on a visceral level. I was captivated by them both and the relationship that developed between them against the backdrop of loss and violence. As is usually the case in life, nothing goes as intended. These are regular people thrust into unimaginable situations and their drama will keep you riveted for hours.

Thompson is a rare new talent in the thriller genre, combining an intelligent and well-thought-out plot with complex and relatable characters that will give readers the white-knuckle reading experience of their lives! Do not miss this book! I am a fan for life!

Alex Cavanaugh Fast-paced and emotionally gripping - once the ride begins, you won't stop reading until it ends. Told in first person from the viewpoint of three characters, the book draws you into their world immediately. Watching a man's life spiral out of control is gut-wrenching, but the real power of the writing is watching him try to set things right. Nancy Thompson's first book is amazing and would make for an excellent movie.

THE MISTAKEN was a fast paced, intense, and gut-wrenching read. When it was over, I ached at the thought of being ripped from its world--reality seemed too dull in comparison. Seriously, Thompson knows how to make you feel invested in her characters. Once you start this book, you will not put it down.

This is such a sad story. Thompson presents us with life at its toughest. She takes us on a whirlwind journey that I could have never imagined in my wildest dreams. A couple of times I just sat there staring, thinking ‘did that really just happen?’ Thompson doesn’t simply throw twists and turns at you, but rather rollercoasters and train wrecks, without ever having a feeling of impossibility. At one point I couldn’t figure out who in the world anyone was going to get out of this one alive. However, she managed to get us from point A to point B with it feeling like the only possible conclusion, even if it was an emotionally charged ride that kept you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Thompson’s writing is very descriptive, and in intimate detail, both with respect to the characters and the storyline itself. Her writing allows you to immerse yourself fully into this intense world. I found myself completely wrapped up in the story, visualizing what was happening and guessing what would come next. It was a realistic yet thrillingly suspenseful ride that kept me on my toes. I could barely put it down.

The characters in this novel were very well developed, even if I didn’t necessarily like them all as individuals. It was a very intriguing contrast of personalities. I felt for the male lead in this novel right from the prologue. I wanted to help him figure it all out. (And I admit, there were a few times when I wanted to get rid of his wife for him, but hey, she wasn’t helping him much). The supporting cast was also quite well put together. Everyone was developed so that you knew them the same way that the main character did. It made for a very well balanced cast.

Overall this was a phenomenally thrilling ride that was very well anchored in reality. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense with a bit of romance thrown into the mix.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author/publisher/blog tour company in exchange for an honest review.

I know Kim loved this book and I am in a minority of those who did not. However, for me I really wanted to connect with this story and its characters and I just could not. I found myself skimming a lot and even skipping some chapters to reach the end. I do not know what was not working for me and I guess it all just seemed like too much drama and not enough emotional connection to the characters the first half of the book. One thing I will say is the characters seemed condescending and sported multiple personalities, this was something that bothered me a lot, as I read through. Tyler suffered so many tragedies, and I mean more than one person should ever have to suffer through, it seemed unbelievable to me. I really hate to write reviews like this and what makes it worse I can't really say much as I don't want to ruin the story twists for any one.

The second half of the book was definitely better than the first. I did like Hannah. I thought she was a strong character in a sense. I also liked how she was able to help Ty find redemption and love at the end after everything he put her through, but it was not enough to hold the story for me.

I love intense stories where the emotions of the characters are palpable, and The Mistaken absolutely fit that bill. It's a thriller through and through, but it also contains an element of romance that I crave in everything I read. Nancy Thompson gives us a heartbreaking look into a man's mind when his hunger for revenge leads him into a destructive, dangerous chain of events, and follows the nail-biting path to his redemption. This is a uniquely woven thriller that had me up close and personal with all characters, and actually had me invested in their futures.

First off, I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has excellent pacing, and I found myself reading until the wee hours of the morning. I loved the way all these super broken characters kind of interacted with each other. We have Tyler who's addicted to alcohol, involved with the Russian mob, and whose bi-polar and pregnant wife committed suicide in a road rage incident while trying to avenge herself against a woman that made it impossible to have her Martha Stuart house in San Francisco. And here's where my only few criticisms come into play about this book. It's just so "straight" and "white" that I find it oddly compelling because I believe these stereotypes about "rich white folks" to be absolutely true, yet I wish that they weren't.

I mean, I guess that's a problem for privileged white women who have the charming husband with an Abercrombie & Fitch body and gorgeous blue eyes. You'd better damned well not get in-between them and their Martha Stuart decorated house which they've envisioned having babies in and choosing plantation shutters over drapes. To be honest, Erin was a dispicable thief who stole money from people as well as identities, and it is well within character for Jillian (Tyler's wife) to put her life and the life of her unborn child on the line for some material goods. Cause let's face it...it's a money money money nation. I just wish this wasn't so true. It's like a Republican mantra: "ya screw with my granite countertops and my high-end Viking applicances people and you got another thing comin'!"

Don't look for minorities in this book unless you want bad guys. It's told in first person with multiple points of view, which I thought was done masterfully. It's the same kind of thing I loved about Absalom, Absalom by William Faulkner and also by George R.R. Martin. It puts you into each character's head. And be aware that the title of each chapter will tell you whose head you're going to inhabit.

"The Mistaken" has a lot of adult themes in it. You've got rape, kidnapping, murder, extortion, violence, and substance abuse. However anything sexual is told and not shown, i.e., "so and so was raped." I guess that's done to preserve the PG-13 rating similar to video games that have violence galore but anything sexual gets glossed over. I understand the marketing reasons behind this, but as an adult man, I like my books to be written for my age group. In other words...I don't shy away from R-rated movies, but embrace them as I'm over the age of 17. However, this book is clearly not written with regard to my sensibilities but to engage readers who want a lot of action and romance without descriptions of fluid exchange or friction fiction.

I could totally see this being a made for television movie with a huge audience (I know Nancy cringes at Lifetime, but I could totally see that or the CW--Home of Arrow and the Vampire Diaries). Tyler turns into a major bad ass with Liam Neeson-like skills from the movie "Taken" where he mass murders tons of people using a makeshift pipe that he literally tears loose from a rail around a gladiatorial pit. But just like Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies: the people he kills are "all bad."

I want to reiterate: I loved this book. I blazed through it in two days. I think it's an engaging read for men and women alike. So do yourself a favor and buy a copy today and grab your popcorn. It's one hell of a ride.

Holy EPICNESS!! I'm still saying "Oh my Gawd"

 photo oh-my-gosh_zps11ff03fc.gif

The Mistaken by Nancy S. Thompson is fast paced and action packed!! This read really got my adrenaline pumping, you like think you know what's going to happen next, but um NO! I love reads that allow me to stream my own little movie in my minds eye. Make no mistake that this was definitely one of those.

Ty, how I love your tormented soul. I wanted to jump into the book and save him!!....from what?? You'll just have to read it and find out!Ty, really is a beautiful character, and you can see his heart all over the pages. He just wants to make things right.

Tyler Karras Ty is a perfect man in every sense, going by the rules, hard working ambitious with a zest for life, hard core romantic with a peace and calm surrounding him..Leaving behind London his dream was to go for bring which he does in time..But this was never the case with his younger brother Nick, drunken, drug addict he always needed Ty brother ( he chose to call him ) for rescuing him from every trouble he gets into..Though Ty tried his level best to get him on track, that never seemed to be enough...First losing his parents and his baby sister in a tragic accident, Ty is rid by the grief of letting Nick to drive the car ...In spite of all this Ty pulls himself together with the help of Jillian , Jill his fiancee and the love of his love...Ty best effort doesn't stop Nick from getting into San Fransisco Russian Mafia, finally accepting his life and getting on his own...Cherishing and relishing every moment with his newly wed wife and the child yet to be born everything falls apart as she is killed with their unborn child also dead...Just before her death they the couple had been dealing with a credit card fraud which Ty had asked Jill to ignore..Now he realizes if only had he paid more attention to his wife's need and pain she may not have died..Ridden by guilt, self remorse and a racing vengeance to get to people who stole away everything from him he also turns to alcohol and Nick helps him to pursue everything Ty wants..But here they make the fatal mistake , they go for the wrong person the new victim Hannah, now wait there is more to the tale ,Nick's life is at stake as Ty had a pact with the Russian Mafia to let him lose after their kill, but now Ty feels responsible pulling Nick and Hannah into this...From then on starts the higher power thriller that goes through various twist and turns...

Ty comes across as a wonderful guy too good that at times the goodness irritates lol, he lives his dream, but his major problem is he always chooses to be defensive about everything still he carries out every responsibility well..Ty and Jill share a wonderful life together, their moments together are real treat to read...

As the story unfolds, the darker side of human feelings are explored well.. When struck by grief the internal demon takes over, clouding on the logic and reasoning turning a person driven by anger with extreme side of behavior..Nick and Ty share a weird yet a warm relationship, their love for each other, the disappointments surfaces well..After the death of Jill their relation reconstructs for good...Hannah's life is thrown apart with a stranger running after her and the way she handles her otherwise worse life is also quite convincing...As the characters fill through the novel giving less space for the overall plot I missed further details of the their lives, but nevertheless as the book was thoroughly entertaining, I had nothing much to complain...The book sprints away after the first half and I left the depth of the novel ebbing away..Yet the twist and turns really made up for it..The book is an apt for a travel and for a quick suspense thriller, thoroughly convincing read...

4 Really...That's Your Best Idea? Stars

So many bad ideas. So many. Bad Choices. Bad Advice. Bad. Just effing bad. This is not my normal genre. I don't usually read thrillers and that whats this is...a thriller. It has lots of twists and turns. And very little smiles and giggles. I kinda like the occasional smile and giggle. So this book stretched my comfort zone.

Tyler and Jillian are happy couple living in San Fransisco. But not for long. Oh, they still live there but not happily. Ty's brother, Nick is a drunk and makes foolish choices. Then he graduates from making foolish choices into making illegal ones. Dangerous, illegal ones. His choices bring the mob to Tyler and Jillian's doorstep. And that is just the tip of the iceburg.

I don't want to give too much away because there is sooooo much that happens in this book. A bunch of people get killed. Some of them the characters you like. Many of the characters make bad choices that get them in deep doo-doo. No strike that....ALL the characters make some REALLY bad choices. That gets them into REALLY deep doo-doo. Here is just a sampling of what goes on...

kidnapping, extortion, identity theft, adultry, rape, near rape, revenge, alcholism, rage, stalking, beatings, murder, drug use... I think you get the picture. A lot of shit happens in this book. I kept thinkng...So that's the best idea you can come up with? Not the writer...the characters. These characters come up with lot of plans/schemes/ideas. Most of them are not of the Eistein variety.

Tyler discovers that he is not the person he thought he was. Or perhaps he finds that he is capable of more than he thought he was. What extent will someone go to protect their family or for revenge? How deeply can you regret your actions and how do you atone for your bad choices. So many bad choices. So many mistakes.

WOW! What an awesome read The Mistaken is. It has everything a mystery suspense thriller needs. How much does it take to drag any one of us to the bottom of the barrel? How much could you stand or tolerate before you reached your lowest depth...so low you barely register as human any longer? Tyler Karras reached his lowest after losing his parents and sister to death, his wife and unborn child also lost to death and his brother, Nick, owned by the mob. It was then he met the evil inside himself and turned to follow a path of vengeance. In the process, three lives are forever altered, and when he finally is able to repent and turn from the evil within, it is with a great amount of remorse, an inner strength to fight the demons of alcohol and drugs, and little recognition of the man he once was. Tyler was a very well developed character as were Hannah and Nick. As the reader I could understand where each character came from and how conflicted their very souls were.

The story was unique and interesting and flowed smoothly as told by Tyler and Hannah. I wondered if Hannah suffered from Stokholm Syndrome, but over time the romance between Hannah and Tyler was meant to be. There were surprises within the intricacies of the story as well. To me it was a cohesive and thrilling read. Well Done Ms Thompson! I'll look forward to more of your work for sure!

The main thing I'd heard about this book before reading it was that it was impossible to put it down. That couldn't have been more true! Once I got into the book I couldn't stop reading it, and read the whole thing in little more than a day.

But the story is more than just thrills and twists, as it is also filled with great characters who come to life through Thompson's writing. The most interesting thing to me was that all of the main characters did things that made me shake my head at times, but I could still identify with them and see them as much more than just their questionable choices. In other words, they were all fully-realized characters who came across as real people.

This is especially the case with Tyler, the complicated and at times very dark main character. I was horrified by Tyler's actions at various points in the story, but it was always easy to understand how he had been driven to behave the way he did.

If I hadn't already known when reading it, I never would have believed The Mistaken is Thompson's debut novel. As a huge thriller fan, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.

OH!!! EM!!! GEE!!!!! Wowwy...wow...wow!!! This book had me sitting on pins and needles from beginning to end!! I could not put it down and when I had to.... it was all I thought about! I couldn't wait to pick it back up and see where Tyler was going or what he was going to do next. I have never yelled at my iPad, held my breath, or needed anxiety medication as much as when I was reading The Mistaken! Nancy S. Thompson knows exactly what she is doing and this story sucked me in and made me worship the book queen that is Nancy!!

The Mistaken is about two brothers.... One is a Dudley- Do- Right, the other is a bad boy who gets involved in the Russian mafia! Tyler and his brother Nick, are about as opposite as opposites can be! Tyler is a straight laced, law abiding, goal oriented, boy next door... With amazing blue eyes and a super sexy accent. Nick is a gun wielding, hard living, full of angst and guilt ridden bad boy who has had to live his life in his brother's shadow. How could you not want to instantly root for each of them???

Tyler is living the American dream. He has a great job, just married the love of his life (Jillian), came home from his honeymoon and found out he is going to be a first time Daddy. He is on cloud 9 and doesn't know how his life could possibly be any better. That is until a spa worker steals his wife's identity and puts a damper on them buying their dream home to raise their family in. Tyler's wife isn't satisfied with his decision on how to handle the person who she views as ruining her life. Now enter the spa worker who stole Jillian's identity.... Trashy, manipulating, low down Erin Anderson! Jillian decides to take matters into her own hands and who better to assist her with putting a little fear into Erin than.... Nick the Russian mafia bad boy.. AND Tyler's brother!!! When Tyler finds out about Jillian and Nick's plan... He flips out and that is putting it lightly! Tyler forbids Nick from helping and Jillian is left to handle the situation on her own. She decides to try to scare Erin into admitting her guilt, but ends up getting into a car accident and getting killed while pregnant with Tyler's baby. Tyler is full of guilt, grief, rage, and now some very unhealthy habits and decides that he is going to kidnap Erin and trade her to the Russian Mafia for his brother's freedom. Of course Tyler, being the all around golden boy, really has no clue how to do this and just lets his distraught emotions consume him. He stalks Erin at the spa, sees her arguing with her "husband", follows her home, and waits. Little does Tyler know that Erin is having an affair with a married man, and this man's wife is a doppleganger for Erin! The woman Tyler follows home and kidnaps is not Erin, but Hannah, a totally innocent bystander who was just trying to bust her no good, cheating husband! This is where The Mistaken takes a drastic turn, kept me up for un-Godly hours, made me want to pull Tyler's and my own hair out, and suckered me in to the characters and their story!!!

The Mistaken takes a horrendous chain of events and weaves in love, heartache, friendship, grief, humor, happiness, and pure rage all into one nice package and delivers an outstanding story!!! I was about 10% into the story when I was already crying, laughing, and irritated with the men in this book! Nancy S. Thompson took me on a ride that I would do over and over again!! Before reading The Mistaken, I was not a sold out fan on the mystery/suspense/romance genre. I really didn't understand how those three genres could be intertwined into one story line. I now worship the throne of the queen of mystery/suspense/romance and that person is Nancy S. Thompson!! I give The Mistaken a very well deserved 5 stars and encourage everyone to read it ASAP!!! Trust me... You will find it all in this story and you too will get the chance to yell obscenities at your iPad/Kindle/book, whatever device you read on, and experience the utter frustration that is Tyler!! ;)

WOW, what an PHENOMENAL BOOK!!!! In fact, it's one of those books I wish they would make into a MOVIE!!

A fellow Goodreads friend recommended this book to me (Thank you MK Harkins!). It is one of the few recommendations I have been grateful for because I don't think I would have ever come across it on my own. That thought saddens me too because WOW this book was PHENOMENAL!

It took me a while to read this book simply because I was reading it with a co-worker. Had I not done that, I probably would have read it in 24 hours. It was that addicting once you got past all the necessary development chapters. Let's be honest, there are some books that need this and this book is one of those so whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP reading this book. Keep at it!!!!

I will admit that I was everywhere on the emotional scale. I'm not going to lie. I was crying many times throughout the book and gripping my kindle so tight in many others from the suspense. Yelling at characters was another common occurrence while reading this.

Now I am not going to lie and say that this is an easy read. In fact, I think it might be just the opposite. The matter of the book is deep as you can guess. What is even more scary is that this type of stuff does happen. So while I may seem dark right now, please don't let this deter you from reading it.

So what makes this book so wonderful? Well, the writing is outstanding. With each chapter you get a characters point of view so you are not left guessing what is going on in the minds of another character. LOVE IT!

The detail and thought behind this book. I'm not kidding when I say that this book would make FABULOUS movie. It has all the elements for a great action packed, mystery/suspense, with a hint of romance. WOW! I mean really what more could you ask for a in book. Really, I ask you?

Another great element of the book is the characters. They can be very much real. They have their flaws, fears and issues. While the situation may not be one that occurs in someones everyday life, it is definitely plausible. To me when books are like that, they are even better.

Bottom line, this book has made it to the list of my absolute favorites I loved it that much and who knows, it could very well end up on my paperback self. It is just that good!

This book is fast-paced and intense. Draws you in from the very beginning and leaves you unable to put it down!

There are so many great characters and so much depth to each of the characters.

Jillian is struggling. She has the amazing husband, she’s pregnant with their first child and not handling the pregnancy well and isn’t in the greatest state of mind. She so badly wants the white picket fence and when it’s taken away from her, all rationality goes out the door.

Tyler is a clean-cut, hard-working man; he follows all the rules, and abides by all laws – he believes that criminals should be dealt with by the authorities. He’s married to a beautiful woman, they have baby on the way; they are living the American dream. He’s robbed of this amazing life the day his wife and unborn baby are ripped from him. Stricken with grief, he turns to drugs and alcohol and convinces himself that the only way to get over his loss is to seek revenge.

Hannah’s life is spiraling out of control when she learns of her husband’s infidelity after 17 years of marriage. The only thing keeping her going is her son. She ends up landing herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nick’s life is comprised of bad choice after bad choice. After playing a key role in the deaths of his parents and younger sister, he heads down a dangerous road of drug and alcohol abuse.

When Tyler finally opens his eyes and sees what he’s becoming will it be too late so set things right? Can he save himself, his brother, and this “Mistaken” woman? The odds are not in his favor. In the end, these characters all learn a lot about themselves, and about each other. Life-long secrets are uncovered.

“I feel more alive when I‘m with you. I feel that I’m somehow needed, that, like a missing piece to a puzzle, I’m meant to fit into some small space in that hollowed out place inside you….If I can make you whole again, then maybe I can be too.”

This is a very dark thriller with plenty of twists and turns. It keeps you guessing and from the very first page until the final page. I rarely stray from the romance genre but I’m very glad I did. This book is very well written, the characters are all so real and this book is so full of raw emotion! An amazing debut novel, I look forward to reading more by this author.

Nick has lived the perfect life… until now. Tyler (Ty), is a British Australian transplant living in San Francisco for several years. He is handsome, wealthy and has the perfect fiancé, Jillian. They are slowly planning their life together, however, Ty’s baby brother Nick seems to constantly interfere. Nick is a young, spur of the moment guy. He likes to enjoy life and partying. He is striving to be like his big brother but seems to fail at every turn. On the eve before their parents and sister are to visit from Australia, Nick decides to party once again even though he is to pick them up. This is just the beginning of their trouble. The aftermath is one huge insane mess. Nick escapes into alcohol and pills. Tyler tries in vain to help him while still trying to move forward with his life. Nick has already had troubles, but now gets in deeper by joining up with the Russian Mafia……When Jillian’s identity is stolen, things accelerate to a fevered pitch.

We were over 100 pages into this book before we remembered what the story was going to be about. We liked that the first 1/3 of the book was the intro to the main story and we were not disappointed. The plot wasn't so different from other books/ movies that we had read/seen but the author does a fantastic job of making it new. This is a novel full of heart pounding action and thrills. You never know what is coming on the next page. It has a little bit of everything, romance, murder, mystery and thrills all wrapped into one exciting debut novel by Nancy S. Thompson.

We like that each chapter is narrated by a specific character giving the reader greater perspective into each side of the story. We think it also is what helps the story flow and helps develops the characters. The characters are richly described and we felt we could reach out and smooth the wrinkle on Ty’s forehead.

Not once were we bored with this book, with all of the twists and turns we were thoroughly entertained throughout the 300+ pages. Great job Ms. Thompson!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started reading The Mistaken. It's a book that takes a while to build, but by the midpoint, I was flipping pages as fast as I could.

One of the things I liked about The Mistaken is the flawed protagonist, Tyler. He makes a number of mistakes (some of them truly awful) and he starts to walk a very dark path, but he's a decent person at his core, a man who succumbs to terrible weakness, despair, and finally rage. I didn't always like Ty or the things he did, but I understood them. I had a hard time forgiving some of his behavior toward Hannah, but his remorse was genuine, so I eventually managed to let it go like Hannah did.

Ty's brother, Nick, was another flawed character whom I liked even less in many ways, but whom again, I also came to understand. In the end, Nick summons up the good parts of himself, and I was glad to see him reach some kind of redemption.

The female characters, Jillian and Hannah, were also likewise flawed but essentially decent people. Neither one falls victim to extremes like the men in this story, but they have their faults too. It was great to see so many less-than-perfect characters in the book, and their presence lent it a certain realism.

The action scenes in this book were very well done, especially the huge one the drives the climax of the book. I thought Tyler's rage and determination were very well-drawn in this sequence, and there's a twist to the story that I didn't see coming.

The love story between Ty and Hannah felt a little underdeveloped and rushed to me, considering what Ty did to her earlier in the story. I don't want to spoil the book, so I won't say what it was, but I wasn't entirely convinced that Hannah would have been over it so soon. However, that's a fairly minor quibble in what is otherwise an enjoyable read.

I'm looking forward to the next book by Nancy Thompson.

The Mistaken is a non stop thrill ride with a strong emotional component.

The core of the story is a relationship between two brothers:

Tyler: The nice guy, follows the rules, stays out of trouble and is happy in his quiet life

Nick: The trouble maker, impulsive, immature, always messing up and causing damage

Both are touched by tragedy and at first deal with it differently. Nick's outside influences keep encroaching on Tyler's happy life. Soon more dramatic events occur. Tyler is faced with more tragedy, danger, and guilt than he can handle. But how much can one man take before he breaks? Can events completely change a person's character? And if you do go over the edge, can you come back? His descent into despair is gut wrenching and painful.

I don't know how I missed it, that moment I changed. When somehow I became a different man.

I certainly never saw some sign that somewhere down deep inside me, lurked a monster, an abomination,a bitter man so broken and lost that vengeance seemed the best course, the only road left to follow.

When he makes a huge mistake that puts an innocent woman's life at stake, he will have to work against time and danger to save them all. It is full of action, suspense, pain, tragedy, and some romance. It takes one man on a journey to hell and back. It is a dynamic relationship between brothers. And a romantic journey for two people thrust into a near impossible situation.

I was engaged from the beginning. I was impressed with the character development, emotions, the suspenseful storyline, and the intricacy of how the character's lives intermingled and came together. It was a rollercoaster ride and stunning debut from Nancy Thompson.

Thanks to Nancy Thompson and Partners in Crime Tours for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review

"The Mistaken" by Nancy S. Thompson

An amazing romantic, suspenseful thriller... 5 stars!

Nancy S. Thompson has written an edge of your seat yet heart wrenching/heart warming story. It has twists and turns that keep you guessing! I was riveted to my kindle reading events as they unfolded...

The absolute tragedy that her two protagonists experience is immense. There were several scenes that I thought, no, this is not happening! There was a scene in particular that I literally just felt like I wished I could close my own eyes and not "watch through the protagonist's eyes" at what was happening! My stomach felt sick with dread... My heart heavy at what I feared was coming. I felt anger at the individuals responsible.

How her two protagonist with completely different lives can be thrust into the need to fight for survival, because of a monumental mistake and learn to trust, work together and forgive, proves that redemption is possible even at the darkest time in someone's life.

This is not a bubblegum book... Bad things happen and lives are forever changed, but the choices made and the consequences and results are part of what makes this so bittersweet. The decisions to heal, forgive and move on are hard ones to make, the act of doing just that is more difficult than one can imagine.

The way Nancy finished the story was very satisfying for my own feelings of the need for retribution. The wrap up was amazing... No, I didn't get everything I wanted to happen, but that's what makes these stories feel more real.

The gift of love and ultimately finding happiness is unexpected and very fulfilling.

I can't wait to read more from this author!

The Mistaken is a book with so many twists and turns - definitely there was not one dull moment. Tyler has a brother Nick who just can't seem to stay out of trouble and get his act together. To repay a debt, Tyler signs on with the Russian Mafia - much to Tyler's dismay. Nick feels he doesn't have a choice. He has gotten himself into trouble; his brother has a fiance and no longer has time for him; and he feels responsible for the death of his parents and sister.

Tyler ends up getting married and when his wife becomes pregnant there are a series of misfortunes that lead to the death of his pregnant wife and his unborn child. Vowing to get the person he believes is responsible he develops a plot to capture this person and turn her over to the Russian Mafia. But it isn't quite that easy as he mistakes someone else for the person he believes is guilty. Can he get out of this mess that he has created? Can his brother? Can he save the innocent woman? Will he catch the real woman who is guilty? How far will someone go for the person they love?

This story is an amazing thrill ride and the villain isn't really a villain - he is just a guy full of guilt, trying to make it through each day after the loss of his wife and unborn child. Believe it or not there is so much more that happens in this book and you will seriously not be able to put it down. You will become attached to each character. Definitely a 5 star read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Mistaken, first novel by Nancy S. Thompson. The book is told from several points of view; each chapter is designated with the name of the character telling the story. The main characters were very well-developed in large part because of this form of narration. Some reviewers have felt the first half of the book was slow, but I enjoyed that part of the book as it was setting up the characters for the thrilling last 25-33% of the story, and also provided background for a "twisty explanation" regarding the protagonist's family at the end. The payoff for me was big. I must have cried "OMG" out loud 20 times during the last quarter of the book. The main character had gotten himself so very deep in trouble, I really didn't see a way out. There was one particularly tight spot he was in where he miraculously made it out; my 4 instead of 5 stars is because his means of getting out of that particular jam was a bit unreal! Despite that, the description was thrilling and I do believe my heart rate actually went up, something that had never happened before while reading a book. Another point of import is despite the despicable flaws the main character Ty developed throughout the course of the novel, I thought he was very likable and found myself vigorously rooting him on. I have already downloaded #2 in The Mistaken series titled Leverage and look forward to another excellent read by this impressive new author. I highly recommend The Mistaken to all thriller fans.

The Mistaken is not the genre of book that I usually read, so I wasn’t sure if I would love it as much as other books I’ve read recently. I guess I was wrong.
I thought the beginning was a bit slow until I realised that the author was cleverly setting the scene for a series of events which has me holding my breath and gasping at the story that was unfolding. Once I was held in The Mistaken’s clutches, it was difficult, really difficult to put it down and I was getting cranky because real life kept getting in the way. About half way through, I came to the conclusion that this book would make an awesome movie, the kind that would have you leaning forward in your seat while covering your eyes in some parts. (If you’ve read the book, you’ll know exactly which ones I’m talking about.
But wait, there’s more. Woven through this book, there’s another story which you hope will come to a satisfying conclusion. And no, I’m not going to tell you what that is, but I will tell you that you need to read this book yourself.
I was going to give The Mistaken 4 out of 5 stars, but then I decided that my personal preferences were interfering with the fact that Nancy C. Thompson’s writing which included excellent character development and the use of suspense deserved 5 stars.
