Just the mention of his name brings smiles to the faces of sports fans everywhere. Landry: The Legend and the Legacy is a tribute to the man behind the hat, the look, and the game. In rich texture, Bob St. John tells the story of a quiet kid from Mission, Texas, who grew up to be a quiet, intense, and respected man. Favorite memories of Landry are shared by others who knew him as a person and as a friend: Dan Reeves, Mike Ditka, Charlie Waters, Bob Lilly, Charles Swindoll, Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson. Pictures from throughout Landry's career and recollections from friends and fellow players help depict the man who molded lives and changed the course of football forever.
This is more than a football book. This is about a 20th century icon, WWII bomber pilot, defensive back for the NFL Champion NY Giants, assistant coach with the Giants (with Vince Lombardi) and Dallas Cowboy coach for 29 seasons (including 20 consecutive winning season). Tom Landry was an innovator on the football field and a warrior of the flesh (pilot) and for Jesus Christ. A great man is gone
A good biography on Tom Landry’s life. I am glad the author started by talking about Landry’s faith which created the context of how he lived his life, conducted himself, and coached. I enjoyed learning more about the cowboys that happened either before I was born or was too young to remember.
I’m sure there are several good biographies of Tom Landry out there, but I was disappointed in this one. Not that it wasn’t factual, just not told in an interesting and compelling way.
Brought back great memories of my childhood and my love for Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys. Well written book but apparently the spellchecker failed the proofreader. Lots and lots of misspelled words and names.
