How have I never read this author before? Ms. O'Leary first popped onto my radar when I read her story in an anthology. This book follows right after that anthology and I'm sucked in. This is a 3.5 star book and I want to read the entire series. For those who enjoy Maya Banks and her KGI series, this series will be right up your alley.
Beth Hildago is a terrified and terrorized young woman. She and her family are separated to keep them safe from the Mexican drug cartel. In this fast paced story, Beth is on the run and she is assigned to be with Navy SEAL Jack Preston. Jack is the perfect gentleman to coax Beth from her frightened shell. Jack may be built like a Viking, but he is a gentle teddy bear. Especially when he cuddles and reassures Beth through her nightmare.
I liked both characters in this story and I loved the Navy SEALs theme. I am a fan of military men as heroes or anti-heroes so this story worked well for me. Ms. O'Leary's writing is concise and smooth. I could see every action and I liked how she built her characters. They were not one dimensional. I liked how the secondary characters, like Jack's mother and Rosa were integrated in to enhance the story. I also liked how Beth was not a doormat or a helpless damsel in distress. Ms. O'Leary is now on my list of authors to read. She has so many books and I'll need to get through every single one of them. Recommended for romantic suspense readers who enjoy military men and the women who love them.
Book provided by the author with no requirement of a review. I gave one anyway.
We first started Jack and Beth's story in the novella version of Her Adoring SEAL, featured in the Romancing the Sweet Side box set. This is the expanded version. I've been anxiously awaiting the rest of their journey and, and I loved it, just as I predicted I would. Okay, I love this author's work period, so it wasn't a stretch to figure out I'd love this one too.
The book starts off with a small back story of Jack. We get to see him in action on a mission and then later, while on leave, visiting his family. His week long leave is cut short as he's personally been asked for to work with the Midnight Delta team. A rare honor that Jack can't pass up, not that he would regardless as someone needs help and that's what he does. He has no idea how much his life is about to change.
If you've been following this series, which you should because it's fantastic, than you're familiar with Beth. Beth, along with her parents and older sister, Lydia, were rescued by the Midnight Delta team lead by Mason (see book one, Her Vigilant SEAL for his and Sophia's story), and due to Clint falling fast for Lydia (see their story in book two, Her Loyal SEAL), the team is aware that the danger to this family isn't over. After numerous attempts on Lydia, it's decided to separate the family in order to protect them best. Of course, Lydia will be with Clint and Jack will be with Beth. *Oh boy, this is going to get interesting.*
Beth is struggling even more with being near men since being assaulted, and Lydia almost died from being beaten, but there's just something about Jack. Yes, she still has some anxiety being around him, he is in fact a complete stranger, but it doesn't take that long before she's able to relax around him and realize how good a man he truly is.
When Richard, Jack's stepdad, questions Jack's intentions where Beth is concerned, methinks Jack doth protest too much. It quickly becomes apparent to Richard, and us, that Jack is a goner over her, he just hadn't fully admitted it to himself yet.
If only they could just enjoy getting to know each other without all the danger surrounding Beth and her family. But we all know the story just wouldn't be the same without the edge to it. *Psst...I admit, I really do like the edge. It makes things much more interesting.*
After a setback, due to a bad storm triggering painful memories, Grace, Jack's Mom, is able to coax her back out of the house and she's relaxing again, until a different kind of danger strikes, requiring a visit to the hospital, where Beth accidentally says her real name. *This cannot end well.* One good thing did come from this potentially fatal situation, Jack and Beth are able to admit there's something happening between them, and though scared, Beth knows Jack is worth the risk.
But what happens when Beth's past comes back for her? Will Jack, and the team, get her back? Will she revert back into herself, losing her chance at happiness with Jack? Will Jack be able to help her through all of this again? Will the threat to Beth be eliminated once and for all? Will this couple get their HEA?
I highly recommend you one-click this whole series. I'm off to read SEALED with a Kiss, the special Valentine's novella Caitlyn was so sweet to write. After that, I'll be anxiously awaiting the next HEA. I'm wondering if it'll be Darius and (hacker extraordinaire) Rylie. *fingers crossed*

Caitlyn O'Leary's newest release brings us into the world of Beth Hildago a woman scared and abused. She feels like she is less...broken. She has suffered trauma at the hands of a mad man. A man determined to own her for himself. He's willing to kill to have her.

But the SEAL's that rescued them step in and are determined to right the wrongs she has faced. Willing to go the extra mile to protect her when all others have let her down. Jack Preston "sees" Beth for the frightened, scared, and emotionally scarred woman she is, because he has live that life with his Mother. He grew up in with an abusive father bent on destroying his mother. His protective instincts are all he needs to help Beth start to heal. He finds himself reaching out to her on so many levels. His feeling quickly turn to love. But Beth isn't ready for the intense relationship he sees them having. Its up to him to show her she isn't as broken as she feels and that she can heal...and become the woman she always wanted to be.
When I read this passage my heart stopped and my eyes watered. It was the most poignant moment in the story. A moment when love seeps into the soul with a hold so tight it feels like your one.
"Beth, tell me." He prompted. "I hurt." He brushed his thumb over her bottom lip. "I'm so sorry, I wish I could take the pain for you." She felt tears welling again, and even though she blinked, one leaked out. He brushed it away. "I going to take better care of you when you come home." "You're only supposed to be protecting me." She gripped his hand even harder. "Please admit it's more than that. I know you're frightened. But can you be brave enough to admit there's something between us?" The world stopped. She couldn't catch her breath. She fell into his beautiful blue eyes. "Beth?" He brushed his thumb against her lips, parting them. "Breathe, baby." "Yes. Oh, yes, Jack. There's something," she sobbed. "But I'm so scared. What if I can never be what you need?" "You are what I need. You're who I need. We have all the time in the world. This is just the beginning.
When Beth is taken by force and transported to Mexico at the command of the insane man who has dogged her since she was sixteen. It falls to Jack and his SEAL Team members to take on the human slavers who have her.
Once again Beth has a man determined to own her...own her love and is willing to kill to get it. But this time its for all the right reasons...
Caitlyn O'Leary has a spell binding way of writing her books that can and will mesmerize the reader from start to finish. Her worlds are rich in detail with all the raw reality of life. I was lost in this world so deep that when life intruded again I was stunned for a second. I wanted to ask the writer "What comes next? Are the people I now know going to be alright? Who are you writing about next? These questions are things that I rarely ever wonder about after I finish a book. But when an author can make me stop to wonder...I have to ask myself what else has she written?
I give this book a solid 5 stars for gripping drama, sensitive love scenes, and the HEA that we all wish could be ours.
I received this book in exchange for an honest and fair opinion and review.
I found this little beauty on the freebie list and really enjoyed it. Jack is our hero with strong family ties. I loved the relationship between him and his mom. Beth is in hiding after an attack that left lasting fear within her. She is still in the healing process and with Jack at her side he is intensifying the experience by 100. He makes her feel things she never believed she'd feel and allows him closer than she's ever let anyone before.
Beth cant process because she hasn't learned to love herself. The danger is still real because her family hasn't really hid from anyone but just delayed things. I loved the slow growth of Beth's self love and her strength and courage toward the end. Jack never gives up and is a gentle soul. Enjoy!
I loved this book. It has all the feels and suspense. It kept me turning the page until way past my bedtime. It kept me guessing as to if they were every going to get the bad guys but we know the SEALs always get the bad guys, sometimes it just takes longer than they want. It was sometimes funny watching them get frustrated with the women when they wanted to help because these are strong women, (even though Beth didn't seem to start out that way). Beth is afraid to be touched by men because of what happened to her when she was a teenager and working in her father's office and then when the family was kidnapped and held in a cabin. After the SEALs rescue the family, they are put in protective custody but the US Marshall's are infiltrated by the bad guys and try to kill Beth's sister while she is in the hospital. The SEAL team that rescued them take over the security detail until her father testifies and the family is split up. Beth is sent with Jack to his family's ranch to stay with his mom and step dad. While they are there Jack and Beth start to become close and Beth is slowly letting down her guard where Jack is concerned, but thinks she will never be enough for Jack because she will never be whole again. Jack is willing to go as slow as she needs. Then she is bit by a rattle snake and is taken to the hospital where she accidentally lets slip her real name. A few days later, the SEAL team realizes their cover is blown so Jack and Beth have to leave the ranch right away. The SEAL team finally captures Guzman but does not get his son, Berto, who has started his own business of human trafficking and is coming after Beth. Jack will do whatever it takes to keep her safe but what will he do when she and Lydia go to the store and both SEAL team members that are following are killed and Beth is kidnapped? Will they get to her before she is taken to Berto? Will she be able to help them find her? Does Jack find her or will the rest of the SEAL team get to her first? The only thing I didn't like was that it ended so abruptly.
I received a free copy in return for an honest review.
Every time I read Ms. O'Leary's work I find myself impressed by her characters. They are real and find an inner strength the is not only impressive but inspiring. And Beth Hidalgo has become my new hero. She perceives herself as broken. Her sister fails to see her strength. But Jack sees the strength it takes to move beyond your fears. He sees a woman meant to be his. I love this series by Ms. O'Leary so I was excited to see where she would take us next. I didn't not expect the pain Beth must overcome for her future. I did not expect to see such courage in such a tiny package. I was amazed and awed by Beth and loved the man Ms. O'Leary gave her. A man who understood her fears and supported her as she move past them. This story was full of action but was more than that. It was full of courage. It was full of love. It is a wonderfully written story and well worth not only your time and your money.
3.75* I really enjoyed this book. It's the third in the series but can't be read as a stand alone book. The main characters Jack and Beth were so easy to fall in love with. Each had life altering experiences. Jack had a terrible father but a stepfather who loved and cherished him. Becoming a Seal became his way to give back in a way. Beth and her family are on the run from criminals and Jack is brought in to keep Beth safe. They have strong chemistry but Beth feels she will never be able to endure a mans touch. Jack knows she's worth the wait, if he can keep her alive long enough to trust him. I can't wait to see what's next for the Midnight Delta team and now I need to go back and read the first two books.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Book three Of the Midnight Delta Series finds us still entangled with the Hildago family drama. Jack has removed Beth from harms way and is slowly falling for her. But reality isn't far away. Two survivors meet plenty of drama and fears in this book. The poetic, brilliant prose of Caitlyn O'Leary delivers the most beautiful and romantic love story I have read to date!! If this series keeps growing at this rate it will be EPIC!!!!
When the Hidalgo family was split up, Jack Preston was tasked with protecting Beth. Little did he know that this quiet, seemingly shell shocked woman would become the love of his life. Beth quickly learns to trust Jack but feels she is too broken to ever be what he needs. Patience, compassion, understanding and love slowly win her over. She's still in danger though and when it comes calling beth finds that she's strong and resourceful.
It was really good in places, a bit unbelievable in others!
Firstly I love reading books that are part of a team and follow on from each other. These are really not well written sadly, as I love their characters.
One point that annoyed me is that they’re definitely out of order! In the last book Aiden and Evie get together. In this they’re not together!
Beth is the sister of Lydia. They and their parents were rescued by Mason’s team and brought to America. So their dad can testify against the drug dealers who he worked for. Clint (on Mason’s team.) has fallen in love with Lydia. When it becomes obvious that the U.S marshalls has been infiltrated and they try to kill Lydia, while she’s in hospital. Mason and his superiors believe that they should guard the family. Separately. Jack who is on another team, is asked to take Beth to his parents ranch.
I’m not sure I believe that the seals would all be taken out of active duty to guard witnesses in a drug trial! I could be completely wrong. I just don’t see it happening!
Beth is terrified of men , as she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of the drug lords. As they become closer, Beth is terrified that she will never be able to have a relationship. As she’s so scared of men touching her. That I thought was written well. As you could feel her terror of all men.
Dialogue, yet again is awful! You can’t tell who is speaking! No punctuation, spelling mistakes, etc etc. It’s such a shame as I love some of these books. Mason and Sophie’s book is my favourite out of them.
Sex scenes yet again are terrible. I couldn’t figure out, if they were having sex at one point! I’m still not sure what he was doing to her.
As many people have reviewed. Mason as a lieutenant wouldn’t be best friends with Drake. Or socialise with his team all the time.
Having said all that. I still enjoy reading them. They’re not brilliant but I love the characters.
Jack's family ranch is the perfect hiding place for Beth, who is on the run from a psychopath. As an elite Navy SEAL, Jack has the skills necessary to keep her safe as long as necessary. But does he have the skills to help her overcome the abuse she has endured?
To say Beth doesn't trust men is an understatement. Not only does she believe she can never be comfortable in a romantic relationship, she also believes she doesn't deserve one. Protecting her isn't enough; Jack also has to patiently show her what she means to him and convince her to have faith in their future. His mom is a terrific help in this, having survived a similar situation many years before.
I loved how the issues that Beth is facing were addressed honestly and directly, with plenty of compassion but not a lot of sugar-coating. The strength she develops from her healing serves her well in the latter half of the book, when she has to take on a murderous gang and a human trafficking ring and find a way to survive until she's rescued.
Jack's patient devotion to Beth was very sweet and tender, and his determination to find and rescue her had me cheering as he stormed through Mexico hot on her trail. The climactic ending with Berto was especially victorious and cathartic. The entire book was a wonderful, emotionally-charged adventure and I loved every bit of it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is by far the sappiest, boring and most unrealistic bunch of bunk I've ever read and the worst part is it vaguely involves Navy Seals!
Jack Preston is brought in on a job protecting Beth Hidalgo who has been traumatized by life it seems and afraid of men. Beth's father has apparently gotten the family on a short list to be terminated by his deal with a devil. Beth is split from her family to join all too willing Jack at his family's ranch--for safety. Once Beth's cover is blown, Jack and Beth are off to California to be closer to the rest of the family, which is now a good idea for some odd reason, and her father's testimony.
During her stay at the ranch, Beth has fallen from Jack's charms of being the perfect man (gag me this story is so sickening) and so in tune with her and her needs. His mother is the perfect mother, loved by the perfect step-father, yadda, yadda, yadda. It's all so sickeningly sweet and boring it is hard to finish this predictable mess which lacks any suspense or adventure. As if that isn't enough, the unprofessionalism of Clint and Jack taking advantage of their charges emotions while supposedly protecting them seems to be a theme for this series.
A very disappointing read if you are expecting to read about covert SEAL action and suspense with a little romance.
I've read the other books in the series and we've met the hero and heroine in them. You could tell the hero really cares for the heroine then, but it wasn't their time. Now their time has come. You get to know how insecure the heroine really is, but after hanging around the hero, his family and his team, she finally grows in confidence and finds herself rescuing herself and other women when they are kidnapped.
However, during the time she gets to know her hero and his team, she was scared of the sizzle between her and the hero. Over the time they are together the hero treats her like gold and she slowly starts to realize she can depend on him. He falls head of heals for her, but she slowly takes her time until she cannot deny it any longer.
However the kidnapping and being smuggled out of the US, puts a damper on things. Will they get back together again or will she be gone forever?
Jack Preston is a SEAL brought into the Midnight Delta team for a special protection detail. He's to protect the beautiful, shy and abused Elsbeth Hidalgo from the ruthless Mexican cartel her father will testify against. The handsome, patient and caring Jack is the adopted son of a rich Texas man, Richard Preston. Jack and his mother, Grace, had survived physical abuse from his biological father, who was sent to prison for his crimes. Now Richard and Grace live on a beautiful, secure and serene ranch. That is where Jack takes Beth to be safe from those who pursue her. Secrets, criminals and insecurities keep Beth from feeling safe, but Jack provides her trust and safety and she begins to come into her own. Finding her strength she fights back against those who would hurt her, while Jack also fights those who would hurt Beth. This book brings together two loving souls who truly fight to be together.
Once again, Ms O’Leary gives us a story worth your time. This one belongs to Beth Hidalgo and Navy SEAL Jack Preston. Beth suffered physically and emotionally during the time she was kidnapped. She has been entrusted to Jack, so he can keep her safe. Jack is very protective of her, and the more time he spends with her, the faster he starts falling for her. But Beth fears men, due to other experiences in her life. In addition to the emotional rollercoaster ride, danger is around the corner and the suspense keeps you on your toes. It’s a story about trust, taking chances and finding love. But will Beth and Jack get their HEA or will her past not allow her to reach happiness with a man that loves her? Another winner by this talented author. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Beth Hildago is in hiding with her family when Navy SEAL, Jack Preston is asked to join the Midnight Delta Team and hide and protect Beth at his family ranch.
From a rattlesnake bite, her cover being blown, to being kidnapped and transported back to the leader of the drug cartel that abused her in the first place the story is action packed. My favorite part was how patient Jack is with Beth as she faces the fear from her childhood abuse, helps her gain confidence in herself and how brave she is when she faces danger. I love a good action packed Navy SEAL story with a sweet romance and Her Adoring SEAL is packed with both danger and sweet romance and great supporting characters too.
Jack Preston steps in to hide and protect Beth Hidalgo (sister to Lydia Book #2). Shes been traumatized both recently and way back when, but the ranch in TX should be safe. Accidents happen and he loses her, then realizing he cares very deeply for her. A lot of drama and action, emotional triggers and swooney moments as Jack does his utmost to treat Beth with nothing but gentleness and respect, just as soon as he finds her and kills the b*stards that took her. My heart felt it all! This can stand alone and has an HEA. There is however, a much bigger evil at play as they are all finding out.
This book wrapped itself around my heart with all the feels!
I adored how Jack immediately took to Beth, how he recognized what she needed and gave that unselfishly. How he showed her exactly what she meant to him and how he was going to stay in her life, and how she deserved to grasp hold of her dreams.
I loved Beth's heart, her vulnerability, her compassion, her frailness, and how out of all that, within the safe spot Jack gave her, she found her strength and built herself back up into the woman she was meant to be.
There's the more emotional but calm (read less action) moments, even though heartbreaking, but then the action builds back up with surprises and awesome moves. I'm loving my time in the Midnight Delta world and can't wait to get to the next story!
Jack and Beth are two characters brought together so one could protect they other. But they soon learn that there was more to their relationship. Beth felt unworthy of him he deserved better. Jack knew she was it. This book brings you a journey that happens more often than we want to talk about or hear about but its really a enjoynent when a Author brings you the story and it has a HEA that you can hope really happens in real life. Caitlyn Oleary brings you great adventure and love
Beth,Her sister, and her parents were being guarded by Seals because Mexican Drug Cartel were trying to get to them. Jack was guarding Beth and is very protective of her. Jack and Beth are starting to get close. They fall for each other Beth pushes Jack away, thinking she isn't worthy or good enough for him.. because of everything she went through.
Love the suspense. Love the sex scenes. Love the characters. Love his family and the rest of his Seal brothers.
# 2 2019 Bookhoarders Challenge
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Lots of mystery, intrigue, and Navy SEALS who are very protective of the ones they care about. There is also a woman who is on the run, after being captured by a human trafficker who has seemed to taken a shine to her specifically. He doesn't want to let her go and while her father is awaiting trial to be a witness to their crimes she is under the protection of Jack, a Navy SEAL. He can't help fall for her, and want to protect and keep her safe.
Fast paced, international travel, and men on a mission. Looking forward to reading about the others in this series.
Beth has suffered through a lot of trauma, being kidnapped with her family, and in the past.
John is one of the SEALS called in to protect a witness and his family after they were kidnapped by a drug cartel who are involved with a congressman.
Jack takes Beth, one of the family members, to his ranch, where her healing starts. They go through many trials, dangerous situations, and manage to grow their relationship as they go.
Horrible people are killed, innocent ones saved, love is declared, and healing completed. Nice.
I enjoyed this book tremendously. I'm going through a difficult time right now so I really appreciated the escape.☺I thought the book was set at a good pace, the love scenes weren't leud but maybe a little unrealistic. I thought the characters were interesting and drew me in which obviously made me want to read more from this series. Regular life these days in the midst of the Covid pandemic is too serious and boring so I really needed and appreciated this novel. I would highly recommend this series and author. Thanks for the opportunity to review this book.
I chose this rating because this was actually a really great book. I really enjoyed most all of the characters. This was a book of protection, compassion, caring, and taking care of yourself and others. And also falling in love on. I really enjoyed Jack and Beth story. I think they made a really awesome couple. The author did a great job with putting these two characters together. Jack treated her tender and awesome, he was the Ying to her yang. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.
A beautiful love story about a Navy Seal and the skittish woman he needed to guard! He was soooo very patient with her from the start. He fell madly in love with her. She gets captured by the scrupulous man that abused her. Jack has to literally trek across the US and Mexico to get her back! There were plenty of times where I thought the book was long-winded on the unnecessary minute details on many scenes. It definitely could have been a shorter book and had the same impact!
I enjoyed this book. It was well written and the characters were awesome. Caitlyn O'Leary did a fantastic job with this book. I couldn't put this one down. I encourage everyone to get this one it is worth your time and effort. This one has twists and turns. This isn't a quick easy read, but it is fantastic story. I don't do spoilers so you will have to get this book to see how good it is. There are twists and turns in the story so get it and see how it turns out.
Beth and her family are being separated to protect them. If you want to know about it read the book before this one. Jack has been brought in to help watch over her. She has had a traumatic experience when she was just sixteen. And the problem has not gone away. Jack has set his sites on her and will do anything to keep her safe. Including dying. So their time together has so many ups and downs throughout the story. I enjoyed reading this book and series.
