Take Me with You

Numbers. They’re significant. In my life each one meaning more than the one before it.

Seven years. Two thousand, five hundred and fifty five days.

That’s how long it’s been since I learned I have Asperger's Syndrome.

Five years. One thousand, seven hundred and twenty days.

How long I've been in therapy because of it.

One random meeting.

All it took for my world to be turned upside down and for me to learn that even in the worst human being, there’s a story to tell and sometimes, the cover to that story can be misleading.

I’m Eric Carmen. She’s Amelia Evans and this is our story.

Mother, Sister, Daughter, Best Friend, Avid Book Reader, Author, Overall Crazy Person.

I'm Melyssa and I was born and raised in what is now known as the mega city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm the country girl stuck in the city girls body and anytime I can get away from the big city lights and settle somewhere far more slower is always such a treat.

I'm a mother to probably the four most amazing kids on the planet. (Yes that's a typical mom answer isn't it?) They have brought so much joy to my life and without them I'm not entirely sure where or what I'd be doing. They've taught me so much that I only hope I can do the same for them as they grow.

When I'm not with them I'm doing one of two things. Either curled up with my e-reader and as many books as I can handle or watching marathons of Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy or Veronica Mars.

Lastly, I'm always on the lookout for my next book boyfriend, even if I have to create him in my own stories. can't go wrong with a good book boyfriend. :)

"Each and every one of us has a fire that burns inside us and they can try like hell to put out that flame, but as long as in our minds we know who we’re meant to be, they don’t stand a chance." Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides)

I have to be honest here, In the first two books I didn't like Eric. During reading Hear Me now, i thought that Making a book about Eric would be a fail simply because i thought he was too passive!? whatever the reason that made me think that i WAS WRONG!

IN LOVE with everything in this book.
Usually i'm very good at guessing what will happen and the way they will fall in love and the like but in this book the author took me by surprise at EVERY TURN. She kept me guessing and wondering.

This books is different from the first two books. It was well thought of-no that the first two were less but this one is ... stronger somehow?

The themes surrounding Take me With You are very powerful. I loved the fact that the bullies are growing into decent people and i liked how they are thinking and the reasons behind everything they are doing. Not that there are any excuses for bullying but there is always a story behind every person.

Throughout reading the first two books i had this idea about Amelia Evans : she is a sick, narcissistic, sadistic bitch.
I'm mostly right, but it's funny that before you know someone how easy it is to pass a judgement. After reading her POV which was brilliantly written by the way, i got attached to her more than any other female character in this book. I cried for her pain and suffering. I smiled at her joys.

The same goes for Eric, after reading his POV i was IN LOVE. Eric is probably my favorite male in this series. His passion and they way he sees the world. It was almost an honor to be inside his head!

This book is for sure stronger and more epic than the last two books. It took me several days to finish it because i couldn't read it all in one setting, i needed a break every once and a while to clear my head.
Don't get me wrong, i read TONS of books with more powerful themes, but this one in particular got to me. And as a reader, really this is what i ask for. I have the need to read books that will stick with me. And this series, this book in particular will stay with me in the long haul.

Beautiful style of writing. Amazing flow of events. Great characters. Powerful themes. Amazing message.

What i really loved most about this book was how real and genuine those characters to themselves. Sometimes it shocked me how truthful they can be.

"He’s everything that’s wrong with the world, the byproduct of two morons choosing to reproduce.
He’s also the first person to make me genuinely laugh in years and the one that doesn’t ask for anything in return."

"They’re different, not less. For Cadence, Belle and even Eric, I’m starting to see that different might just mean more."

I'm not going to give any specific or spoilers because i will leave that joy to you when you are reading it ;P

This book was hard for me to read. The issues in here are a little to close to home for me. Two of them more than others. I wasn’t even sure I could review it because of this but I owe it to the author to try.
Eric and Amelia’s story is not an easy one to stomach. I stopped reading this book 3 times because the visual aspects were so real and so raw that it physically made me sick. It’s not a bad thing. It’s a very real portrayal of real issues and should be seen by everyone but I’m tellin u straight out, it’s gonna make u sick before it makes u better.
You are gonna wanna hurt someone for what these characters go through. I wanted to physically hurt Amelia’s father and Eric’s bullies at the same damn time. I was the bully before but knowin what I do now bout life and pain and the reality of what words and actions cause, I fucking hated what he went through and wanted to hurt them like they hurt him.
This story is less bout Eric and more about Amelia. This was her redemption but healing at the same time and by the end, I think that I got my moneys worth with both of those things. The author made me believe in the struggle and also the progression of change. What I mean is, that it can happen. It’s not unrealistic or forced and fake.
Considerin how personal this one was to me and my own struggles, the author made me believe that even I can change from the way I’m thinking if that makes sense. She took a real thing and made it count for more than just some character on the page. For the readers that might be living it too.
There’s a whole lot of sadness and pain in these pages, but hope too. Finding something in someone, even the most unexpected someone and learning your worth and how to heal until you can become a better person it was perfect.
Im so affected by the way this was written and turned out I don’t have a fuckin clue if this review is even gonna come out right but ignore the other two books before this one and im flat out tellin u this one will bring u to ur knees and make u feel and a lot of the time its shit u don’t wanna feel but needs to be felt.
If u want a book that’s sweet and lovely and all roses and fuckin sunshine choose another book but if u want one that’s filled with pain and then lifts u up with hope and faith and makes you feel and believe then this book is for u.

Simply magnificent! One of the best books I read so far this year!

12:30am - I seriously have to think about what to write for this book. Such an emotional roller-coaster...

***Warning – Abusive Sexual Situations and Self-Harm Present Within Book***

Amy is nasty. She’s such a hardened bitch. Bully extraordinaire. All the special education kids in her high school are afraid of her. And, when she takes the abuse too far and is expelled, she finds herself having to see a therapist. “There’s no way in hell that she is going to talk to the guy and tell him her deep dark secrets!” And, the secrets that she has are doozies! My heart just couldn’t help but break for her. Sure, she’s mean and everyone’s worst nightmare, but the nightmare that she has been living with since the age of four, is horrific and sorrowful. I just don’t know what to say when reading such a heartbreaking story. The tears just flowed. I’m pretty much speechless. But, there is a silver lining to this story. The author introduces a beautiful boy to save her. To look past all her faults and find the good. The real person inside. The beautiful person just dying to be born once again. And, what Eric brings out in Amy is monumental. It gives her a chance to redeem herself and finally believe in herself. In fact, she might even like herself. But, what does Amy do for Eric when she knows that he is so different from her? She gives him confidence. Eric is shy and quiet. Always trying to keep on the down-low so that he doesn’t get picked on in school. The more and more time that these two spend together, the more that they believe that they are meant to be together. When Amy does return to school after her expulsion is lifted, however, what ramifications will the two now face when their newly embraced relationship is found out? I don’t want to give much more away of the story. I just want the reader to experience the rest on their own. It was just so sad, but yet uplifting.

Amy was an extremely strong character. Her strength came from blocking out the evilness of her home life. She never knew happiness before she met Eric. And, Eric was supportive and protective. He was just such a nice guy. He saw beyond Amy’s despicable behavior, and gave her a chance to reform her past mistakes. It was cute how they talked about the smell of each other. Who knew that peanut butter and bubblegum could be aphrodisiacs?? The reader will get glimpses of past characters from Ms. Winchester’s other published books “Count On Me” and “Hear Me Now”. These are all standalone books, but I would still read them in published order so you wouldn’t be confused as to what the other characters have experienced. It sheds light on friendships and relationships that have already occurred. Ms. Winchester’s ability to yet again portray believable and authentic characters with learning disabilities was flawless. I just felt the pain and suffering that these individuals went through. And, also the constant abuse that Amy endured was portrayed as unfeeling and just so heinous. It was extremely hard to read. But, in the end two people found solice in each other. Found a true beginning to acceptability and happiness. Found peace...

“You’re my perfect storm. You’re the lightning that makes my sky brighter every single time we’re together and you’re thunder because whenever we’re together and you kiss me, laugh at my corny jokes or smile, it makes my heart beat so loud and so fast that it’s the only sound I can hear . It’s the only sound I want to hear.” ~ Eric (Chap. 18)

“What does the rain mean to you? The rain is like the water. It cleanses you. Do you remember what you said about the phoenix a couple weeks ago?”

“Yeah.”

“Right. So when it’s reborn, everything in the past is washed away and it has a chance to start over. You’re the rain, Eric.”
~ Amy (Chap. 19)

I was wrong before. A storm isn’t made up of just one or two parts. It’s a bunch of different parts that come together and create the natural enigma that it becomes as it makes its way through the sky. The both of us, we’re individual parts on our own. She’s the thunder and lightning and I’m the rain. It’s only when we come together that it’s right. We become the perfect storm. ~ Eric narrating (Epilogue)

“Eric is so much more than a person with a diagnosis to me. He’s the person that taught me what a true friend is, what love looks and feels like. He’s the person that taught me what change, acceptance and understanding really are.” ~ Amy (Epilogue)

Beautiful!

5 – Break Your Heart And Put It Back Together – Stars

When I first started readin this and found out that Eric would be put with Amy, there was this part of me that didn’t even wanna read it. Amy bothers me. A lot. She’s mean and nasty and basically a total bitch right, so why should she get with someone that from the other two books is just sweet?
It didn’t take very long for me to totally change my mind tho. I mean I already knew the author was capable of changing my mind bout people since she did it with Dillon Murphy and he was the biggest asshole alive. I just didn’t see how it was possible with Amy but she didn’t redeem Amy, she redeemed Amelia.

As Eric and Amelia grew closer I totally saw something happenin with one of the other characters and near the end, it all came together and made me wanna seriously hurt something.
Tim Bradshaw. Ugh. I hate you and your ugly face.

description

I hurt in this book for both Amelia and Eric. Their problems or issues, whatever combined were torturous to my heart. I mean I felt so bad and I just wanted them to be happy, even if it wasn’t together or whatever. They both deserved it. Amy was dead and Amelia was alive and I just wanted the best things in the world for her.

I won’t ruin any more of the book tellin you what happens, but I will see be prepared to be sickened and then made better cause this is not an easy book to read but its so freaking worth it. I get the payoff. I get happiness, and two people rising above their situations and becoming even better people than they were in the beginning and middle of the story.

description

“Will you teach me how to kiss you?” *le sigh* Eric, I love you <3

description

“The next time there’s a thunderstorm, watch the sky when the lightning hits. Don’t go out in it or anything, but wherever you are, look up and watch it. The way one long strike can light up the entire sky.”
“Why do you want me to do that?”
“Because when you see it, you’ll know why you’re my storm.”

Basically this book hurt me and made me happy all at the same time. it was so beautifully written. It’s not like the other two at all and I think I like that best of all, even if it was hard to read at times.

I guess the only thing I have left to say if your still not sure if you should take a chance on it is, be prepared for the feels. They’re seriously off the charts.

"Apart we're individual pieces, but when we're together we really are a force, and not just any force. THE STRONGEST ONE."

I received this novel for my honest review, and i seriously feel like a broken record leaving Melyssa Reviews on this series: This is BY FAR my favorite from the "Count On Me" series to date { ( there's still one more left though ;) } I was completely ENTHRALLED in this book from cover to cover. I couldn't flip the pages fast enough and i even found my self reading aloud to, none other than myself, more than half of the time (lets just say i have a particular voice for both Eric and Amelia, and they are different of course)

Eric is amazing, strong, compassionate, caring, and loving all mixed into a food smelling package (in a good way)

Amy is a monster, abusive, abrasive, explosive, and completely bat shit crazy (for real though)

Amelia is different, broken, compassionate, caring, and a completely different person than you would EVER expect (like E V E R)

Their stories together are too perfect. The flow is amazing and the story itself, as a whole is incredibly symbolic of whay we all hope to find one day... Our Perfect Storm

This review is going to be used a warning of sorts.

There are two extremely sensitive issues that take place in this story that I feel I need to warn about for anyone that has ever been through them.

Sexual Abuse and Self Harm take place in varying degrees within these pages and as such, not only do I believe there should be a warning of 17+ on this book because of the content, but I also believer a disclaimer should be in place so that anything that I have written does not trigger anyone who has suffered through it.

The very last thing I want is to bring more hurt and pain to someone who has already suffered far more than they should, so if you are sensitive to these issues at all, you may not want to read this story or at the very least proceed with caution.

Reader's piece of mind, heart, and body mean more to me than a book sale ever will. <3

Melyssa Winchester is fast becoming one of my favorite authors so no guessing that the minute she hits publish on amazon I stalk it waiting for her next masterpiece.
I was not let down. Take me with you has to be one of the most beautiful stories I have read. Its not an easy book to read and at times I was crying like a little girl. But that being said I loved it. Eric stole my heart and makes you see that just because you might be slightly different to everyone else dose not mean you don't feel or hurt or love just like everyone else.
This books deals with issues that so many of is face on a daily basis maybe not directly but I can guarantee you that each one of you reading this will have either personally or a friend will have dealt with self harm abuse bulling or even suicide.
This book although fiction it shows that with love and support from friends you can overcome anything.

I love Eric Carmen, but what's not to love about him? He's sweet, and so remarkably compassionate for other people that all you can do is love him. There are so many quotes of his that I loved I couldn't even list them all. And I loved the way Eric and Amelia communicated, each cautiously and slowly reaching out for the other.

...I slip the piece of paper across the table..
"What's this?"
"A lifeline. You know, if you ever need it."

Lifeline activated.

I loved watching Amelia and Eric build their friendship because their friendship was built on honesty and trust. Each of them carrying burdens heavier than either of them could carry on their own. Both of them needing to share the weight of their pain with someone who understood.

Amelia wasn't the girl we thought she was. Her pain ran so deep; her troubles so consuming they nearly swallowed her up. She lost herself in order to survive a brutal childhood - creating a person she could hide behind where she could pretend she was in control of her life. She became the exact opposite of what she was. But in Eric, she found that lost girl again. Her growth was amazing to witness and beautiful.

Another beautiful story from Melyssa Winchester about growing, changing, and overcoming life's battles. 5 Stars!

How many starts can i give to this book? 10, 20?
What a book and what a story!
Amelia and Eric took the whole experience to another level. Again I repeat myself but this kind of things do happen and we just ignore them as weird accidents. We shouldn't.
I have learned from my own experience that children end up behaving or not like their parents. And these 3 books are the perfect example to my theory. It might be horrible for some people to read and accept/ understand the message of this book(s) but I am getting it and I am understanding even more my own childhood and my friends childhood.
In my opinion, deep down we are all autistic, asperger or any syndrome that sets us apart and these little details make us who we are. Because these are details and we don't have to run and hide from the them or from what we are.
So, to end it, this is more than a review: I recommend this book to those people who are on a life changing/ life understanding path; I recommend the book to those who need to see a different aspect of the reality and to those who are looking for acceptance.
And of course to those who are looking for a sweet love story that makes you cry and smile at the same time. Just be aware the road to happiness of these 2 people is paved with a lot of tears.

This is the third book in the Count on Me Series and by far my favorite. Only an author like Melyssa Winchester and take two very dark and troubling subjects (sexual abuse and suicide) and make them real, raw and emotional, yet still find a way to leave the reading with uplifting story by the end. This story follows Eric and Amelia as they are thrown together under a unusual circumstance. Slowly, these two people get to know each other and discovery the emotional and painful journey each has taken separately and together, while learning about true friendship and love. This book may not be for everyone. The heavy subject matter deals with the issues head on and I'm glad the author didn't shy away from this. These are subjects that need to be discussed and hopefully helpful those who might be experiencing these issues to see that there is help available to them and they should feel no shame to be a victim. Ultimately this book is beautiful because of Melyssa's ability to show growth, redemption and forgiveness in her characters. Eric will steal your heart and the beautiful imagery and symbolism (the butterflies and storm) will leave you with an uplighting and powerful story.

This was an intense, powerful read. I finished the book last night, but I think I may need some time to collect my thoughts before posting my review.

This book is the third in the series and it surprised me. More like shocked me. A much more detailed look into the struggles of life behind the scenes. Very raw and emotional. Challenging to even read at times.

Amy was a character that broke your heart and Eric helped put it back together.

Take Me with You is book #3 of the Count on Me Series.

If you've read book #1 - Count on Me - or book #2 - Hear Me Now - of the Series, then you know who Eric Carmen and Amy Evans are...

if you don't, then let me tell you:

- Eric Carmen is a Sweet, Honest, Lovable, NICE guy, who, seven years ago, was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - a form of Autism.

Eric is "different"... he has very poor social skills, he has dificulty in interacting with other people, in looking into other people's eyes...

he, also, gets sensory overloads (kind of like Belle in Count on Me but worse), so he has some dificulty with food, clothes and showering (the texture and feel of this things in his body is, for him, heightened... it's too much).

He loves to draw, but it's almost an obsession as, because of his syndrome the drawings he does, have to be perfect, like the images he has inside his mind...

Eric is Bullied for being "different". He is called horrible names and even hurt physically by a gang of boys and girls in his school. The leader of the girls is Amy Evans.

- Amy Evans is a MEAN, Disrespectful, Nasty, Bitchy, BULLY, Twisted girl who enjoys tormeting the boys and girls of the Special Needs Class of their school.

She mostly hurts the girls, taking them to the bathroom and burning their arms with a cigaret... she calls all of them (boys and girls) horrible names (like retard and "waste of space") and she doesn't even See Them as People.

Because of her BULLYING, Amy ends up being temporarly Expelled from school and she's told that if she wants to graduate she was to go to Counselling 3 times a week.

Eric knows who Amy is... she - with the others boys and girls of the gang - has tormented him, all of last year... he is afraid of her... all he wants from her is Distance.

But... Eric is as Good and as Compassionate of a guy as you ever get them...

and when he finds Amy in his shrink's - Dr Thompshon - office and she asks him not to tell anyone she's seeing a shrink... he keeps her secret.

They keep meeting in Dr Thompshon's office and slowly Eric starts noticing things he wasn't suposed to - like the scars on Amy's arms, which she quickly covers...

With time, Eric gets to know another side of Amy... one that's NOT Amy AT ALL!... he gets to Know Amelia.

Amy was once Amelia - a sweet, inocent little girl who loved her family.

BUT when Amelia was 4 years old she started living in a Horrible, Living HELL by the hands of an Evil, Sadistic, Messed up, MONSTER.

Amelia was terribly Hurt, she felt afraid and scared, she started having nightmares and she was told NOT to tell Anyone, or else! ... so she suffered ALL ALONE in this Recurring HELL...

she suffered throught 14 YEARS of it... and as a result from it, she was LOST...

"Amelia. The person I was before everything turned to shit. Amelia is dead."

Amelia tried to find ways to live with/to cope with her life, her pain, her memories, her nightmares, her suffering... and she turned into someone else... she turned into Amy.

Eric is so kind, nice and Honest that Amy can safely be her real self - Amelia- with him, she feels safe to... they become kind of friends... and with him, she founds someone she can safely tell her secrets to... someone she can open up to, someone she can tell about the hell she lived in the last 14 years and in which she still lives in...

"Your secrets are safe with me Amy; even if you don't believe it. You should also know that it’s not just your secrets that are safe with me. You are too."

Amy hates herself, she feels unworthy of love, she thinks she's twisted, a monster like the one that haunts her nightmares ... she doesn't think she can be any better than this... any better than Amy...

But, Eric... he sees Amelia in Amy... he sees a good, hurt, broken, beautiful girl who wants to rise up from her pain, her suffering... he sees a Phoenix.

"The phoenix when it’s reborn rises from the ashes and that reminds me of you. I know that it won’t make sense , but the Amy I knew three weeks ago and the one I know now, it’s like you’ve been reborn. You’re different, but my kind of different."

Eventually as they share their secrets, their fears, their worries... Amelia and Eric fall in love with each other...

"We’re different, yet somehow perfectly the same. For each other."

"The both of us, we’re individual parts on our own. She’s the thunder and lightning and I’m the rain. It’s only when we come together that it’s right. We become the perfect storm."

But will Amelia be able to deal with her past 14 years of pain... and stop it from cotinuing to happen... will she be able to NOT revert back to Mean, Bully Amy?

And Eric, will he be able to deal with his own issues... will he be able to protect Amelia and show her that she is worthy of love and that he truly loves her for HER... not for her beauty, not just physically but all of her?

Do read the book to find the answers... Really DO READ the book, because it is a Powerful and Beautiful story!

I totally didn't like Amy at ALL in the previous books... Knowing she was going to end up being with Eric... I just tought that Amy, this crazy, mean, selfish, bully girl, didn't deserve Eric´s time of day AT ALL.

Getting to know Amelia, what she went throught and how she turned into Amy... really, my heart hurt for Amelia... I wanted her to rise from all this pain... I wanted her to get help... I wanted her to be loved by Eric (and her to love him too)... I wanted to get inside the book, become her friend and help her... I SO wanted her to be happy SO VERY MUCH SO... and I didn't like Amy AT ALL before this...

"We’ve all got issues , things about us that we don´t like and wish we could change. We’ve also got secrets, things we don’t want the rest of the world to know. For some people, the weight of all of that changes them into something they never thought they would be."

So... 4 stars, for this Masterfully Well Written Book about a terribly Broken Girl who starts Picking Up the Pieces and Moving Forward. :)

I love the cover.

Eric Carmen has Asperger‘s Syndrome a form of Autism. It makes social situations and interactions with others very difficult for him. He prefers to by be himself at home. His father can’t accept that he’s different pretending that nothing is wrong.
His mother is a great character I love her, she is so great.

Amelia / Amy

Her actions have finally caught up with her. This is her side off the story and it’s is ugly and heartbreaking. Where I hated Amy first I felt bad for her afterwards.
Eric was tormented by Amy’s horrible gang but now they get to know each other and your first impression of Amy is bad one but then you get to know Amelia and for some reason her and Eric tighter just make sense.

I was missing some more love building yess they had their moment but it went fast. Amelia changed so fast and I was surprised that her ex –friends that turned good took her back so easily.
I need new characters maybe stand alone by using the same characters for the series it makes it hard for me to make it look real.

This book was different the issue I had with the previous book was not a problem for me here.

I love that the author as a mom puts a story to Autism and gives these children a voice by spreading the word about it, giving these children a face.

I really like the way that Melissa tell her stories, and the way that she tell us about special conditions as autism, deaf, asperger, is wonderful, as an author Melissa is empathetic and educational. I felt in love with the story, with Eric and Amelia... The way that she found her true self is worth admiring. Was shocking known about her story, so Much pain for a young lady, but she was stron as a Fénix, Eric is so special, so gentleman, perfect and both of them were like the storm and the rain (love that!). The love story is so kind, cute and strong! I really really recomend this serie!

Oh gosh this book hit me hard. These were the two characters I hated the most from the previous books yet I can't help but declare this book the best of the three. At first, I couldn't stomach one character's past but I realized how though that character had. These protagonists were tough and I couldn't help but admire their story!

A book with interesting plot and strong psychologically, I think that the author handles it very well, has a pretty good development. The finish is ideal, it is also a book that makes you think about genetic diseases and psychological well developed. I recommend it 100% a history that will not be able to stop reading.
