Each year thousands of women choose to make an adoption plan when faced with an unplanned or untimely pregnancy. They often do this with little or no information about how the process works, or what the emotional, physical, and financial implications might be for making that decision.
Another Choice is a step-by-step guide to the entire process of placing a child for adoption. It discusses everything you need to know to ensure that you are making the best decision for yourself and your child, including how to find an ethical and empathetic adoption provider, how to talk to the birthfather about adoption, and how to find the best adoptive family. Most importantly, the authors discuss the emotional journey of placing a child for adoption, and provide real life examples and quotes from women who have already traveled this path so that you know you are not alone.
Another Choice is a well written and informative book about the intricacies of open adoption. It's a well rounded thorough book that covers evey base you could think of about open adoption. It's a great read for anyone considering adoption or wanting to learn more about it.
I just finished this book. It was not what I was expecting, but it did give me a much deeper understanding of adoption. I am glad I read the book before I read the book blurb because I doubt I would have picked it up. I usually like to read "stories" about adoption (just an interesting topic to me), and this books does have quotes throughout from individual women about their experience with adoption, but it is really a comprehensive guide for women considering placing a child for adoption.
Although I didn't realize it, I knew virtually nothing about how adoption actually works, especially for birthmothers. This book lays it all out. It explains the technicalities, but the thing I liked the best is that it really explains the emotional part of placing a child for adoption. This is not an easy process, and this book explains everything you can expect. I loved the quotes from women who had been through the experience.
It was also interesting to me that the book covered every imaginable situation including how lesbian women, transgendered men, and women in prison can make an adoption plan. It is so comprehensive and well written.
