Fated Hearts: A Second Chance Romance (formally Second Chance Romance) has undergone a massive redo!!!
Julia Kline, known by her friends as Jules, had a rough time growing up with a dad that travelled constantly and a mom that was anything but a mother.
She was only six years old when Jules met her new neighbor Noah Sinclair. Their relationship started out as childhood best friends and swiftly changed to young love once they hit their teenage years—Jules was certain that they were going the live the ‘movie perfect’ happily ever after love story. What they didn’t account for was Jules’ malicious mother stepping in and tearing them apart.
Now guys are the last thing on Jules mind. Instead, she’s focusing all of her time and energy into earning her master's degree which isn’t cheap. In a moment of desperation, Jules finds herself excepting a job as an exotic dancer at a high-end gentleman’s club. She never in a million years imagined that this job would bring her past colliding with her present…but that’s exactly what happens when her boss informs her that the club has been rented out for a bachelor party… Thinking it’ll be like any other night that she straps on her sky-high stilettos and struts out onto the stage to give the guys what they paid for. The last thing she could ever imagine is that the bachelor waiting for his lap dance is none other than Noah Sinclair--the boy that broke his promises and her heart. Hold onto your G-strings and get ready for a crazy ride! Because Jules and Noah’s rollercoaster, second chance love story, is sure to be a ride you won’t soon forget!

[ETA: Months after posting my review, someone asked me what was so unbelievable, resorting to the lame "this is fiction" argument. Fiction it may be but IMO, a writer is not as free to do as s/he pleases for a "contemporary romance" as for a different genre. For example:
SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE by Sophie Monroe had a promising start. The prologue set the stage very nicely by providing a back history to the relationship between Jules and Noah before transitioning to the present time, story-wise. Admittedly, the writing style seemed a bit simplistic and unpolished, and for me, repeated descriptions of what the heroine did with her hair, make-up and clothes became tiresome rather quickly. But I tried to ignore all that to concentrate on the story itself.
Unfortunately, this book became a DNF for me at 17%. Note that I review DNFs on a case-by-case basis (meaning, I usually don't). But this book had such serious flaws that I felt compelled to warn future readers/buyers of what to expect. That way, they can at least make an informed decision as to whether or not to proceed with this book.
Forgive me if this seems preachy or harsh, or some of it turns into remedial English Composition by using "technical" terms. But simply saying that this book was "poorly written" wouldn't be enough. Some examples, in no particular order:
STORY: (1) Telling, and not showing (2) Clichéd plot devices (3) Nonsensical moments (e.g., how does a stripper write a note in the middle of a performance?)
FORMATTING: (1) No indents to paragraphs (and no spacing in between either) (2) Paging-wise, end of one chapter runs into new chapter (3) Inconsistent scene breaks (4) Completely different font for several pages before switching back
WRITING: (1) Wrong tense usage (2) Run-on/incorrect sentences and paragraph re: structures, organization and/or transitions. E.g., one character's dialogue shouldn't be in the same paragraph as general narrative or another character's thoughts. (3) Incorrect use of "that" when modifying a person (should be "who") (4) Errors in punctuating dialogue (there are basic, mandatory rules for fiction writing) (5) Errors in distinguishing between dependent and independent clauses (6) "wits", NOT "whit's"
Lastly, the DNF point: copy/paste repetition of a past scene following POV switch. At first, I thought I had accidentally backpaged on the Kindle but no, it was the same scene with little to no changes.
Downvote this review or not, I don't care. As someone who learned as much from reading books growing up as from formal education, I consider most books to be continuing education in some form and hate feeling dumbed down. As with any job performance, it's not too much to expect a writer, aspiring or otherwise, to know the basic tools of his/her profession.
I don't expect the next Pulitzer Prize winner for every book that I read. But this version of SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE is a shoddy product. And it's particularly offensive that people would unknowingly pay for it, valuable time- or money-wise.
ADDED: I completely forgot... my thanks to Secret Book Claus(e). It was a perfect pick, even if the execution wasn't.
EDITED: To separate "TECHNICAL" into "FORMATTING" and "WRITING".
***** UPDATE 30-Jan-2013 ***** I had hoped that something good would come out of my original review after this book was de-listed on Jan 6th, despite the BS which followed. So I skimmed through the new version re-listed on Jan 27th. Alas, ’twas not to be...
Still formatting errors in new version (e.g., now have intermittent indents, sometimes every other paragraph—quick skim via Amazon's "Look Inside" feature will confirm this). Stripper still somehow writes a note while performing on stage so that another performer could read it (true talent, that). And people are still heading to the "alter" to get married.
And contrary to repeated statements, apparently didn’t bother to have “the good friend” who’s “an English teacher with a fancy masters degree” do an edit/proof, despite all the reviews pointing out poor writing since her very first book. So definitely not recommended for anyone who prefers to read well-written books (including correct dialogue punctuation).
Also, NOT recommended for anyone who cares about copyright issues. Copyright to this book is expressly noted/protected but portions of its content may violate the copyright of others.
Unfortunately, Second Chance Romance did not work for me like I had hoped.
It starts out as a childhood best friends to lovers story, where the couple it torn apart early on without closure. Jules and Noah haven’t seen each other for ten years when fate decides to bring them back into each other’s lives. Jules is working as an exotic dancer putting herself through grad school when Noah comes into her work for his bachelor party. So at this point of the story I was thinking that this was going to be about Noah struggling with his feelings for Jules while also being engaged, but it really isn’t. Immediately Noah is hell bent on getting Jules back and there is really zero back and forth from him, which I liked. He makes up his mind, ends his engagement and is after Jules in the first 20% of the book.
This book actually kept me pretty interested for about the first half. I was starting to get a little invested and at one point, I got a little emotional and teared up for some of the horrible things that had happened to Jules. There were also a few parts throughout that really made me laugh. Sometimes things were just freaking hilarious, other times, just plain wrong.
“You!” She pointed at me with her skeletal finger. “You do realize it’s a finger and not a wand, right? I’m not going to turn into a rat or anything.” She did it again, so I did it back. “Abracadabra… nope you’re still a bitch.” Noah laughed, but quickly covered it up as a cough.
Jackson, Noah’s best friend, was my favorite part. He is very “what you see is what you get” and I thought he was the most redeeming thing about the book.
”Fourteen-fifty please.” Jackson handed him a twenty. ”Would you like a bag?” “Nah, she not that ugly.” He teased. …
“Why do you think porn sites have a ‘share to Facebook’ button? Who watched porn and thinks ‘you know who would really like this? My family and friends.’ I mean seriously.”
I’m all for a good villain in a story and I thought the set up for one was there with Jules mom, which by the way is one of THE WORST mothers I’ve ever encountered, but it isn’t ever fully developed. We get little to no interaction; no background on their relationship other than the incident (in the spoiler) and telling us things were bad, but nothing is ever really explained clearly.
I kept wondering where this was going, because the relationship between Noah and Jules seemed to be happening so quickly. It felt rushed and there was entirely too much going on. Although I was wondering where it was going, once I realized that it wasn’t really going anywhere meaningful, in my opinion, it was extremely predictable. The twists never felt like twists because I have seen them before and felt them coming. Just about every common twist you can think of was thrown in here at some point. I feel like the author was adding characters to provide conflict and maybe to keep the reader guessing, but it just added to the lack of focus. I wish one or two things had been developed on a deeper level rather than many things, just on the surface.
The editing in this book is something I can’t not comment on. I am not a stickler for grammar, punctuation, whatever… and I am by no means an expert or an English major. A majority of what I read is self-published, so I can understand that things may not be perfect and I’m usually totally fine with that. It was just so distracting in this and there were many times I had to reread parts to finally get a clear understanding of what was trying to be said. I noticed this issue mentioned in other reviews and the problem areas were even included in some. I can say that it looks like this was at least a somewhat edited version since I didn’t see all the mistakes that were previously noted in other reviews. There were many missing words, duplicated words in the same sentence, alternating tenses, words with the wrong meanings and things of that sort. The mistakes I noticed were so blatant and obvious that it just makes me wonder how they could possibly have gone unnoticed. *The lack of editing is not what lead me to giving this book the rating that I did, but it definitely didn't help matters.*
I really wanted to like this book, it the potential for me to, but by the halfway point things really went downhill fast. The idea of this book I thought was interesting enough for me to want to give it a try, but the execution is what didn’t work for me. The moments of humor unfortunately weren’t enough to make up for the lack of focus and depth in the story.
Yeah, this one was a hot mess. I was warned of editing issues and because I got this as a freebie many, many moons ago, I downloaded the newly enhanced, all good to go newly professionally edited edition. Nah. This did have some serious potential, hence the non-dnf status, but there's a whole lot going on and nothing really explained. I've said it before and I'll say it again...no bueno.
At the time of writing this (07.01.2013) the book has actually been taken off of Amazon for editing. Unfortunately, I read it before the editing and am therefore reviewing that copy.
This book was very nearly a DNF. I got so close to it at times but in the end I decided I could get through it, just to see how the story ended.
I had so many issues with this book I'm not really sure where to start.
The grammar was really quite poor. There was rarely a paragraph, missing words, misspelt words and the sentence structure was no good. The story didn't flow at all. Instead of living through and being shown the story, we were simply told it. E.g. 'I did this. I did that. I went there. It was like this.' In the beginning it was horrendous but I managed to put it to the back of my mind.
I love a book about second chance love, Back To You is one of my favourites, but I also need it to be realistic with build up, this book had none of that. One minute they hadn't seen each other for 10 years, and the next they were back in bed and madly in love. It came from absolutely nowhere.
There was SO much going on in this book that at one point I just thought to myself 'please, be real.' half of it was just far too unbelievable. I get that people go through hard times, but there has to be a line somewhere? This just seemed too much, all the time. And none of the plot lines were original, I've read them 100 times over.
I've seen this in another review but I just had to mention it too. I love a book that is told in alternating POV's, it really helps to get in to each characters head, this book had that. Only, we'd have one character telling their POV and then in the next chapter we'd have the exact same scene, but instead of it being his POV, it was completely copy and pasted. I, like the other reviewer, thought I had turned back instead of forward.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this book. At least not until it has gone through the editing process and is back on sale on Amazon. The book has great potential but it just didn't do it for me.
As a cover whore I thought this looked awesome....
I made it to 11% when this happened...
Jules. Can we do lunch today? Pls. I need to talk to you.
I texted back. I could only assume who it was.
who is this?
There was a response almost immediately.
.... I know you don't want to talk to me, but I NEED to talk to you
fine since I let him go and now he has to come charging back in like an angry bull. Now I can't get him out of my head.
ed. How would you fiance feel about texting me?
happened and I really need to talk to you. Please, it's just lunch.
night during our talk.
Yep... Missing sentences, paragraphs and freaking words!
I read that when it was first published this was a problem, but that it was fixed and re-released. I would of hated to see what it would of been before! I tried to complaint to Amazon but I can't actually find where I can do that. So yeah although it sounded good. It just keeps missing soo much shit not worth my time.
If we're going to go through life not giving anyone a second chance, what kind of life are we going to have?
Noah knew the first time he saw Jules on the swing when she was six years old and he was eight that she was meant to be his. They grew up together, were best friends, fell in love, but it was all ripped away....
Fast forward to present day:
Jules: Victim of an abusive mother, strong, independent, insecure, fearful, kind, beautiful, and damaged.
Noah:strong, successful, loving, intelligent, passionate, protective, and supportive. He knows what he wants and will do anything to get it.
A Surprise reunion under unlikely circumstances leads to a possible second chance.
We finally locked eyes and in that moment in time it was like we had never been apart. Ten years, heartbreak, loss, everything was forgotten and it was just Noah and Jules.
"I want this to be our second chance Jules. I won't let anyone or anything stand in the way of that. After spending all those years thinking I would never see you again, I can't go through that again. I won't. So, no matter what happens as long as I have you nothing else matters."
"Please don't leave me again...I need you in my life Noah. It's not the same without you."
Fear, anxiety, trust, and outside influences make it difficult. There are plenty of obstacles....jobs, fear, past misunderstandings and hurt, a fiance', some exes, school scandals, allegations, threats time constraints, and family issues all wreaked havoc on this couple. At first the problems arising for the newly reunited couple seemed to be resolving too quickly and I thought maybe there was not going to be enough interest and drama in the book. But this poor couple kept getting slammed with roadblocks that got progressively more difficult to deal with and to keep it together. They seriously could not catch a break.
"Noah, please don't make me fall for you if you don't plan on catching me." "I'll always catch you baby. Always..."
All along I adored Noah and his unwavering love for Jules. He was so sweet, so patient, so completely adoring and sure of his feelings and that he wanted a future with her. Now Jules I wanted to shake for much of the book due to her insecurity, fighting, denying, and running behavior. But she did have her heart in the right place most of the time and was trying to do what she felt was best for Noah even if it was to her own detriment and loss. She feared she was not enough for him and does not want him to settle.
We were made for each other. At the same time I loved him enough to want what was best for him, even it was killing me.
They did have a great support system of friends and some family. I absolutely loved her best friend Ellie and his best friend Jackson. They were flirty, funny, completely protective, and outspoken. And they had their own part in this story.
I was really pulling for this couple to make it through the minefield they were thrown into and come out okay. I left with a resolved ending and a smile on my face. It was not easy getting there though. This was a really sweet story about a likeable couple going through some bad situations.
Please do not judge this book on any previous poor reviews from when it was first released. It has been re-edited and deserves another chance. I really enjoyed the story and the characters.
See this and other reviews at Reviews by Tammy and Kim. Blog Tour post for this book scheduled for Feb. 27, 2013.
Jules and Noah were high school sweethearts, but when Jules was 16 her crazy mom made her move. She and Noah promised to stay in touch; they would find a way to be together. Only they never heard from each other again.
Ten years later, Jules is an exotic dancer earning her way through grad school. She became best friends with Ellie in the boarding school her mom dumped her in when she made her move. Both of them have worked at the same gentlemen's club for awhile. One night the club is rented out for a bachelor party. When Jules hits the stage she sees Noah in the front and can't continue dancing. He follows her and the two have a confrontation. It turns out Noah is the groom to be and is marrying his girlfriend Carrie. The bachelor party is courtesy of his best friend Jackson. Jules lets him have it about never contacting her and the two have a heated argument. Seems someone interfered and kept these two apart.
Noah finds out where Jules leaves and pursues her. Seems this groom has never gotten over Jules. Both have had serious significant others, but neither has found anyone to replace each other in their hearts. Now that he has found her, Noah is determined to be with Jules.
This book has it all-scheming exes, lunatic parents, tons of misunderstandings and lies. Jackson, Noah's best friend is infatuated with Ellie, Jules' best friend. Of course things are going to get messy and complicated and hearts are going to break all over again. Just about everything and everyone is against Jules and Noah. Will they be able to be together or does fate have something else in store for them?
Despite all of the negative reviews, my book buddy decided that we needed to read this, and I am glad she did. I enjoyed the story as this was my first Sophie Monroe book, and I wouldn't mind reading another.
Yes it had grammatical errors, but I am not reading it like an English teacher, I am reading it for entertainment value. There were not so many errors that I couldn't enjoy the story Sophie was trying to tell.
Maybe because I am a sucker for the long lost love theme, who knows, but the story of Noah and Jules was sweet if nothing else. He was lost for ten years without her and she didn't realize how lost she was without him until they meet again. Of course things can't be honky-dory for them as they reunite, it's a struggle the entire way.
I say give it a chance, unless you just cannot move past some writing errors. These are self-published books, I think we need to remember that much. I am not trying to start anything with anyone, just giving a different point of view.
2.5 Stars The cover and the synopsis for this book caught my attention right away. And when the book went FREE I grabbed it. I know the author has gotten a lot of complaints and poor reviews regarding formatting and grammatical errors. My review is not reflective of either of these issues. I purchased my copy prior to the author taking the book down from Amazon and honestly my copy did not really have any formatting issues. The chapter cut-offs were not clear--as in a new chapter didn't always start on a new page--but this is by no means the first time I have encountered this problem in a book. There were some grammatical errors but honestly I was able to overlook most of those. That brings me to the story itself. As I previously mentioned, the synopsis sounded really good. And the storyline itself is good, I just don't think the execution was there. I don't know if it's the writing style or what but I was never able to develop much of a connection with any of the characters. The story was mostly written in Julia's POV but there are various chapters written in Noah's POV and also Carrie's. The Noah chapters were almost just a duplicate of the previous chapter with a few of his thoughts thrown in, which just didn't work for me. I did read the entire book in a matter of a few hours so it wasn't a long book. I think if the author had spent a little more time developing the story and a connection between Noah and Julia the execution would have been a little bit better. I know this is a relatively new author so I think with time these things will improve. I would consider reading other things by this author in the future.
I loved this book. It might have even been due in part to everyone being so negative. The comments seemed almost personal. Freaking out because some of the tabs are misaligned, really??? The mistake that stuck out the most to me was using Karma Sutra instead of Kama Sutra, but I found it funny. In my nutty mind the misuse was ironic more than anything. Jules mom has got to be the biggest bitch in the world. For what she did to Jules she deserves to have her uterus ripped out & shoved down her throat so she chokes on it. Yes, I have a serious issue with people that CAN have kids & abuse them. I like Jules a lot, she has a serious backbone. Most anyone that went through what she did would likely be bitter and a mess (understandably so). Noah, despite liking him, he should borrow some of her backbone. When your ex fiance who desperately wants you back, tells you she is pregnant..you need PROOF. They got their HEA....ahh thats always my favorite part.
I normally don't rate books that I haven't read at least 1/2 way through but I have to make an exception with this one. Now I'm not an author nor do I have a masters in literature but I do speak English on a daily basis. I know when words are used improperly or a sentence just doesn't make any sense or there's a ridiculous lack of proper punctuation. Those were the issues for me with this book. Granted I only made it to 15% so I cant tell if this was a good story. What I can tell you is the writing is bad. Very bad. And riddled with the mistakes I mentioned above. So much so that I actually returned it for a refund on Amazon.
“What makes life worth living is knowing that one day you’ll wake up and find the person that makes you happier than anything in the whole world. So don’t ever lose hope and give up, everything turns out okay and the good guy always wins. I’m a firm believer in second chances, and if we’re going to go through life not giving anyone a second chance, what kind of life are we going to have?”
--- the story is predictable, but I really love the quotes, passages and the lines the author put in this book and oh I love the playlist too. ;)
I have found another great author!!! This book is an absolute must read. Sophie takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride. You feel the happiness and pain of Noah and Jules. You experience things from both main characters POV and a secondary character as well. Ellie and Jackson are fantastic best friends. Yes, there are a few formatting issues but there are no missing pages and the issue does not hinder the reader at all. I highly recommend this book and look forward to whatever Sophie writes next!
Note to myself: Book was "re-done". New title and all.. (IMHO, why change the title. Unnecessary. I think it's the least of problem). But still.. Reviews were not good before so I think a book can't do a 180 degrees to change so much. Whatevis..There are many reasons I won't read this, but the main one was a reply from the author to this reviewer saying "she wasn't a professional writer so she shouldn't write a perfect grammar " or something in these terms. Well.. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
OMG! this book is like a close 4.5 stars for me...it's like Fifty Shades meets Gabriel's Inferno meets The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window and I freaking loved it!!!
I like that Jules is really strong and has her "bitch mode on" from time to time lol but whatever happens I think I'll always adore Chase and forever be torn between him and Noah ;)
I enjoyed the story. I wanted more of what happened to Jules when she moved to New York and was sent to boarding school but over all it came together. I gotta say at times I hated Jules and her decisions even if she thought yet were good ones! I wanted to smack her! I also enjoyed their dancing as felony and misdemeanor! Great storyline from a fellow jersey girl! Two thumbs up!
I know there has been some bad reviews on this book. Not sure what they were reading but, I thought this was a great book!! Thanks Sophie for the great read. I love the positive feeling I have after reading this one. It's definetly left me with a good feeling and I love the ending :-)
This book was great. Had all the emotions that you look for. I was laughing hysterically thanks to the main characters best friends. What a great book!
When I first found this book I was instantly intrigued with title of the book. Does this mean that Noah & Jules "second chance" worked for them? or does fate have other plans? Can a love lost 10 years prior reignite and bring a lifetime of happiness? Well, when you read Second Chance Romance you will find out.
Sophie Monroe has a knack for making sure any lingering questions you may have are answered while you are reading the book. 5 star FANTASTIC roller-coaster of laughs, utter despair, shock and well I can't reveal what I was feeling by the very end but I will recommend that you give this one a shot! I adored Second Chance Romance and definitely recommend it!
Is the book "steamy?" Hell yes and then some!!!! Noah and Jules........
Nope no problems at all that chemistry was off the charts! If you haven't added this to your TBR I encourage you do so and you will find yourself skipping, running and falling down a path that at times will literally bring you to your knees!!!
This book was quite the ride. What I thought would maybe be a sweet, easy story was not, at least not for me. This was drama and I loved it. There was so much happening it was exciting. This book never seemed to have a dull moment. And OMG do they ever catch a break. I absolutely loved that the secondaries were a big part of this and also the ending was fantastic. This book just had me going, I couldn't put it down. The roller coaster that was this book was great. Again the ending I loved it. I hope you enjoy it too.
I believe in second chances…. what about you? This is exactly what happens to Julia. Noah has been her best friend and protector since the age of 6. They have been inseparable until Julia is forced to move with her mother… if that is even an appropriate term for her. Julia is shipped off to boarding school where she meets her best friend, Ellie. Together the graduate, attend college, and graduate school together. They even share the stage at a Double D’s Gentleman’s Club to pay for college and bills. Double D’s gets rented out for a bachelor party… only to find out that the party is for Noah! What happens when Noah see’s Julia? Will there be a second chance? Will they be able to put the past behind them?
All I can say is WOW~ What a story! From the cover you know where this book is heading, but I had no idea! From the prologue I was hooked!
So let’s meet the characters:
~Julia: AKA Felony, Grad student, independent woman, strong, hardworking, absent father, abusive mother, and a body to die for!
~Noah: Julia’s childhood friend, protector, getting married, not seen Julia until the night at the club
~Ellie: AKA Miss Demeanor, Julia’s BFF since the move, partner in crime
~Jackson: Noah’s best friend
~Carrie: Noah’s fiance & one crazy bitch
This book starts off in the past. It takes you to a place where Noah and Julia meet, the friendship they share, and the safety that Noah provides from Julia’s mother. Once Julia moves away and gets into college, she is on her own. She has to provide for herself and with a body like hers… Double D’s is an obvious choice. Julia is very different, it is just a job, and she has very high morals of herself.
In this book, there is so much emotion… from the beginning I just wanted to take Julia away from her Mother and run like hell! There is no reason for a human being… especially not a mother to have that much hate for their own child! Let’s just say I’d love to give her a taste of her own medicine!
Once Noah enter into Double D’s there are some choices that have to be made… Does Julia still care about him? Does he still care about her? What about the wedding? What’s the real reason Julia doesn’t want to talk to Noah? Why is there so much emotion between them?
Sophie Monroe does a phenomenal job in telling this story from beginning to end. The fact that she can take what happens in the past, move to the present, and then go above and beyond to look into the future is amazing! This book is well organized, planned, and written. I never once had to think about names, what was going on, or question anything. In fact, I LOVED THIS BOOK and don’t know why I haven’t read it until now?! It has a great story of friendship, love, heartache, and overcoming your past to look toward your future! This is a must read! I give it 5 stars easy!
I really enjoyed Second Chance Romance. It's currently free on Amazon so I would encourge everyone to get it and make your own decision of how good it is. It's the 3rd book that Sophie has published and it is where she finally found her writing groove. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little worried to read it because of all of the negative reviews, but I am so glad that I didn't listen to them, this book was really great! It had a twist that I wasn't expecting and followed the love story pattern that we all love with another added twist--girl meets boy when they are kids, they are best friends, they fall in love in high school, she is forced to move away by her hateful mother, boy and girl lose touch, girl becomes stripper to pay for college, boy becomes successful lawyer and then they bump into each other after 10 long years.....
From childhood to about the age of 16 Jules and Noah are inseperable. The do everything together and plan on always being together, that is until Jules' mom (uhg, she is on malicious bitch!) decides they are moving to NY to live with Clark, her current flavor of the month.
"Promise we'll stick together." I said to him.
"Like pages in a porn magazine." He promised, making me laugh.
We kissed for the last time...that was ten years ago.
Now Jules is an adult working her way through college. She has a roomate that also works at the same club she does. They make it pretty good for only working a few hours a week. Jules has it made. Great friends, a few months left of grad school and a good paying job. She is comfortable in her skin and doesn't mid taking her clothes off for money, that is until a bachelor party comes into to Double D's and low and behold, during her number she realizes the bachelor is Noah.....
This is where it gets good! She is furious because he promised to stay in touch and never did. And now he is getting married, but he just has to talk to her.....not such a good idea Noah, Jules lays a slammer of a secret on him in a rage (is it weird that I wanted to spell that like Rhage...lol BDB humor) of fury (Phury...lol).
Needless to say, this was a quick read. I read it in one sitting, not wanting to put it down. The cover drew me in, but the story kept me wanting more. I look forward to reading more from Sophie. If her other books are anything like Second Chance Romance, I know I will be addicted.
I loooved this book. I love second chance romances so jumped on the chance to read this book when Sophie said she was working on re writing a standalone she had previous released.
Noah and Jules are fantastic, complex and well shaped characters. You can't help but root for them from page one to get the HEA they deserve. Ten years is a long time to be apart so when they reconnect in an not so very good way....at Noah's bachelor party which just so happens to be hosted at the strip club she works at! To see the love of your life for the first time while shaking your butt on stage for him and his closest friends and to then learn he's the bachelor! Let's just say I was in as much shock as Jules was and could feel her pain pouring off of the pages.
I immediately loved the side characters too. Noah's best friend Jackson and Jules best friend Ellie are HILARIOUS and a breath of fresh air in a rather emotion packed story. I would LOVE a book for these two even a fun steamy novella would do!
There were some parts I wanted to literally chuck my kindle across the room because certain characters were making my blood pressure fly through the roof! I just wanted Noah and Jules together but some evil, conniving and manipulative people did everything in their power to try and keep these two apart.
I was at the point that I was going to write Sophie and demand she pulled a MEAN GIRLS and had a certain beotch hit by a freaking bus in the middle of NYC! Ha!
This is the perfect book if you're looking for a fast paced standalone that is filled with steamy scenes, angst, drama, and lots of great plot twists. So hurry & one click today believe me you will not be disappointed!
FAVORITE QUOTES:
"He's my sanity in an insane world..."
"My new life plan is to stumble into every CEO's office until I find my own Christian Grey."
"You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have."
"Noah, please don't make me gall for you if you don't plan on catching me." "I'll always catch you, baby. Always."
I have to say this book took me by surprise. Second Chance Romance by Sophie Monroe had me from the first chapter. One of those books that I didn't want to put down. The perfect recipe for one great romance.
This story was about one couples journey through a love lost and as the title says a second chance romance. These characters really were strong and determined to make things work. There certainly were a few roadblocks along the way though. A jilted ex and an ex that just couldn't let go. Unfortunately what Noah and Julia had was the stuff fairy tales were made of. It didn't hurt that Noah was so perfect and so easy to fall in love with. He never gave up on Julia. Now Julia had a lot of baggage due to her awful mother, for whatever reason did not want Julia to have any happiness. Sufice to say I didn't like that woman at all. The other great characters made up for her misery, including Julia's brazen best friend and surrogate sister Ellie as well as Noah's illustrious best friend Jackson. Now every great couple needs some great sidekicks, am I right?
Noah and Julia had one crazy ride. But they wouldn't want it any other way. They were meant to be no matter what the circumstances were to give them their secon chance. They took everything at face value and enjoyed the ride. How wonderful this story was to believe in.
I would love to read more from Sophie. I really enjoyed all her characters and the story that came with them. A must read for me.
Yeah so here's the thing....I agree with the fact that the grammar was a little off here and there. Maybe I read a newly updated and edited book maybe I didn't. However, I didn't see half the mistakes these people were talking about! I even went back and double checked to be sure and nope- didn't see it. Every book I have ever read has spelling and or grammar mistakes. Some more than others but nevertheless- every.single.one! Some of these 'book bloggers' and reviewers on here absolutely disgust me with their behavior and bullying towards this author. Yes!!! I said bullying because that's exactly what you've done and you ought to be ashamed of yourselves! A simple negative review with your disdain would have sufficed but you've mad yourselves look like idiots. Now- moving on to my review. Like I said this book did have some grammatical errors but- I thought the story was great! It had a great prologue, the characters were very well developed and the story had depth and was believable. I would have loved to have more scenes with Jackson and Ellie because quite frankly they were cute and she is hilarious. I also would have liked to see what was happening with Harry. Maybe we will get a book on him???? I though the epilogue was great. Too many books leave me wanting more from the main characters but I felt like this author wrapped this one up tightly with a bow. Great job- keep on writing- your story telling is great. Grammatical errors will always be there but if you invest in a fantastic editor, that will help keep them to a minimum. Overall- I would absolutely recommend this book!!
Another amazing read!!! I want to be Jules... (main character) She's had a rough life but the Jules we are introduced to exudes confidence and control... She's a pole dancer and seemingly amazing at it, she's a brilliant student at Uni, she has beautiful men falling at her feet, and an amazingly supportive best friend... You know what happens don't you?! It all comes crashing down :( Jules is confronted by her past and it all gets a little bit sad! Got to be honest this book gripped me from the beginning. But I loved it because the sad and bad is sprinkled with good bits, which I clung to like a lifeline... it meant I wasn't crying like a baby when reading. This book had a little of everything. I was grateful that it wasn't so angst ridden as it could have been. This book wasn't necessarily all consuming... I wasn't in a race with myself to finish it, I didn't cry my eyes out, and still managed to dress in the morning, eat and sleep :P BUT I kept going back for more (like a little addict) and finished it within 24 hours :) Looking forward to what Sophie Monroe has in store for us next :)
3.5 stars, maybe 4. LOL man oh man the grammar police hate this book! And they are so mean!!! yes there are a lot of mistakes in the book, but it doesn't ruin the story at all!! For me it didn't anyway. Some mistakes actually made me snicker a little so it was ok for me. Over all though, this was a GREAT STORY. The characters and plot were well developed. It kept me turning the page. I loved Jules and Noah. Both great characters and they had so much chemistry, history, love, passion and friendship. The story was interesting and I LOVED the music playlist!! I actually looked up some of the songs on YouTube and listened while reading the part it was supposedly playing in the book. I love it when I can do that! I could just imagine Jules swinging on a pole like she owned it to Porn Star Dancin and Somethin in your Mouth! Lol I was entertained during these moments :)
If your bothered by bad grammar then don't read this. But if you do, then don't slam the author. There are plenty of warnings in the reviews. However, if the plot summery sounds interesting to you then DO read it! It's a GOOD story!
