Original Post: Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs at FLYLēF (www.flylef.com)

IN HER FIRST installment of the Time Collector series, Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs, Jacinta Maree introduces a fascinating, steampunk world with modern day genies who grant wishes in exchange for time. Yet, even while I was devouring each page of this addictively fast-paced and action-packed novel, I couldn’t help feeling some frustration by the lack of character development and world-building.

Elizabeth Wicker was born with a congenital heart defect. She has always believed that she would live a short and natural life. But, when her mom is murdered, she is swept into her estranged father’s supernatural world, and his deadly mission to hunt corrupted Time Collectors. However, when Elizabeth is struck by a fatal heart attack, she finds herself staring into the eyes of Klaus, a Time Collector, to plead for a contract—to bargain for her life.

Elizabeth is young, impulsive, and proud (in an ironically kind of insecure way). She is often mired in crisis of her own creation. But, I I really enjoyed Elizabeth’s glowing, fighting spirit. Klaus, on the other hand, is an enigma that I wish had a more developed backstory. I liked the small amount of tension between Elizabeth and Klaus, which adds a nice touch of romance to balance the action.

I enjoyed the first half of the novel much more than the second half. The first half was executed well with good pacing and interesting twists, leading up to a thrilling mid-story climax. Unfortunately, after the halfway mark, the story seemed to fall apart for me. With a vast introduction of new characters and supernatural beings, the story felt scattered, jumping from character to character, scene to scene. I was left feeling confused and whiplashed by the quick turn of events.

Despite some concerns, Jacinta Maree’s Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs is a series debut with a refreshingly unique take on the allure of wishes. I enjoyed the philosophical exploration of using life as a currency to spend in exchange for desire, which naturally opens up the topic of greed and consequences. It’s a darkly addictive novel, with a good blend of fantasy, and enough intrigue to make me curious for more.

**Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for sending me an ARC of the book in return for an honest review.

3 stars!!!

When I first saw this book, I was drawn by the cover. I absolutely love the artwork. I couldn't wait to get stuck into a beautiful steampunk world that is filled with supernatural beings such as time collectors that grant wishes for the price of one's time. I thought the premise was captivating and unique. However, I must say I am a tad bit disappointed with the story. I will expand on why this is so.

Firstly, I found the worldbuilding to be very disjointed and lacking. I thought this was a steampunk book. But none of the world is exactly described in vivid detail. We are just given glimpses of it. Plus, the author mentions cars, police tape and such other modern terms in the novel that I was wondering if the world was a combination of the 21st century mixed in with steampunk elements. This was extremely dissatisfying because when I think of the Steampunk era, I think of the Victorian age with gears and automation. That's what conjures up in my head.

Secondly, the MC Elizabeth Wicker is the most insipid character I have ever met. I know some people have mentioned that she is strong and brave. I found none of these qualities in her. I just found her to be a girl who gets herself into various scrapes and requires a man to get her out of them. Yes, I did find her misfortune to be utterly unbearable but she doesn't redeem herself. She is constantly being looked after by someone or the other. I wish the author made her more fierce and independent.

The only character worth bothering about in the book is Klaus and Nikolas. I found that their personalities to be very engaging and complex. Their backstories were pretty interesting. As characters, I felt they were equally fleshed out. We see raw emotions in both of them plus, their struggle with their identities, situations and loyalties. Besides this, I found there to be way too many minor characters and none of them truly stuck out for me. I think the author introduced them for story progression and that was about it. Hopefully, in the sequel we see more character development as I feel this book was merely a set up for the next one to come.

With regard to the plot in general, I found it to be quite engaging with plenty of action and twists though some were a bit confusing. I did feel some scenarios were resolved a bit too easily and that the author dealt with various side stories. I was sometimes puzzled as to why they were even mentioned or introduced. I feel it would have been better to stick with one major plot and build it up with a shocking reveal as opposed to multiple scenes. This gives the story clarity which this book lacked. In addition, POV shifts within paragraphs made reading a bit irritating at times.

As of now, I am still unsure as to whether I will pick up the next book. I may do so. I'm giving the story three stars mainly because of Klaus and Nikolas (I would love to see what happens to them), the action scenes and some plot progression. I'd really like to see how the author intends to tie the loose ends from this book in the sequel because there are many. I would recommend reading this one if you are inbetween novels but it's really nothing to write home about. It's just an average read.

The story grasped my attention from the beginning, even though my reviewing copy would have beneffited from a proof reading: lots of minuscules where majuscules should be, bad editing, sometimes you don't know who is talking because of how it is structured... I am assuming here that I got an uncorrected proof or something.
But when I was halfway of the book it began to be confusing. Besides the who-said-that conundrum due to bad dialogue markings, the writing flow got confusing with the voices and the thoughts, which character it was... so progression became sort of messy... and I just stopped caring for the story.

The beginning of this book had so much potential. The main character is put into a rags to riches situation after the murder of her mother. The steampunk world that Maree created kept me entertained half way through the novel with elegant mansions and fancy parties. As I was reading I thought fans of A Series of Unfortunate Events might enjoy this book. However, halfway through, the plot becomes very disjointed and scattered. I did not enjoy the second half of this book at all. So many new characters were introduced and the monster slaying seemed very random.

I'll try not to give anything away. The story itself was so interesting that I couldn't stop until I finished.

The flow of the writing was what stunted my interest. There were some spelling errors, but that could just be from reading it off the freading app.

That aside, it was a very good read and I recommend it.

Quick Reasons: welcome me back to steampunk!; awesome, thrilling adventure; these characters are complex and astoundingly vibrant; Elizabeth has a bit of the "special snowflake" happening, but I didn't care; fun, whimsical, dark read akin to The Boy with the Cuckoo Clock Heart

Huge thanks to Jacinta Maree, Ragnarok Publishing, and Xpresso Book Tours for sending me a free digital galley of this title in exchange for an honest review! This in no way altered my read of or opinions on this book.

"Genies are the retellings of Time Collectors where spirits live in lamps and grant limited wishes. Time Collectors aren't as glamorous or kind hearted. They are called Time Collectors for a reason; for every wish they grant, they create what they call a contract. In exchange for the wish, the person must pay with their time."

Steampunk, my love, I have missed you SO! I am so happy that you can overlook my unavoidable on the side relationships with other genres and accept me so quickly back into your life; I don't know what I would do without you. Although I don't seek you out very often, I want you to know that you still remain my FAVORITE genre...and it's for this reason that I only read you once every few months. Don't tell the others--I need to keep them in my world so I always know just how much better you are!

Okay, I know that might be going a LITTLE too far--don't get me wrong, I love all the other genres I read equally. But steampunk... there's just something special about steampunk that I cannot, for the life of me, bring myself to examine too closely or ruin by reading too much of it. I cannot risk going down the path of no return only to realize that the magic fades...which is why, while I ADORE steampunk so much every time I pick it up, I often go months between readings of the genre. The return is always SO much sweeter than I expect it to be, which is exactly the case with this title!

"You've been watching me?"

"Of course, how else do you think I know how you like your tea?"

Elizabeth scoffed. "What an immoral thing to do."

"Considering I steal time for a living, this isn't exactly my darkest hour."

These characters are well-rounded and so vibrantly written, I found myself living in their heads for the duration of the journey. Elizabeth almost immediately called to me--I mean, aside from the fact we share a name, there's an edge to her that I wasn't expecting going into this read. She is not as soft as you're initially led to believe; she has spunk, and intellect, and knows how to fight for herself and her loved ones with aplomb. I admired her strength throughout this journey--especially in those moments when I might have otherwise simply given up. The rest of the cast are just as endearing and, in most instances, wholly redeemable.

The plot is fast-paced and enthralling. I found myself whisked away to another world and plopped down in the middle of the excitement. There's a bit of a nod to The Boy with the Cuckoo Clock Heart, though this novel is a lot less whimsical and a whole lot darker. The world-building is so well-done, I didn't find myself questioning anything or becoming confused. Jacinta Maree did an amazingly beautiful job of putting me into the heart (clock though it might be!) of this story, and I cannot WAIT to see what happens in the coming installments!

I definitely recommend this to lovers of steampunk, stories with a focus on time, and entertainingly stubborn characters! Jacinta Maree stuck me straight into the story and ensnared me there between the tocking hands with her vibrant personalities, fast-paced plot, and beautiful world-building. My heart ticks with steampunk, penguins; maybe you should take a chance to find out why with this gorgeous read!

* Ecopy received from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review *

Before going to the review, first of all I would like to thank the publisher for providing me an ecopy of this book. I was waiting for this book to come out since I first found out about it. I loved Jacinta Maree’s Immortal Gene series and when I saw this book on Netgalley, I was pretty much excited and without waiting a sec I clicked on that request button. As expected, this book turned out to be pretty interesting to read. The cover art of this book looks stunning just like her other books. I loved the unique concept of time collectors and I’ve never read books with this concept before so it’s also kinda refreshing to read. The only thing I was little bit disappointed with this book is that it doesn’t have much steampunk elements in it. Nevertheless, I immensely enjoyed the book.

The story follows seventeen year old Elizabeth wicker who’s attending an academy of underprivileged ladies that had saved her from the streets and brothels. With her eighteenth birthday approaching in a week, school rules states that she’s going to be sold like a property to a rich noble household as a personal maid, servant etc. Elizabeth doesn’t want to get sold to her personal tormentor Arthur who belongs to a powerful noble house that no one dares to go against. When her mother gets killed by a mysterious stranger, Elizabeth’s whole world turns upside down. With no choice left, she turns to the only person who can help her. Later Elizabeth learns about the time collectors, a modern wish granting genies who takes the time of a person as a payment for every wish. Elizabeth never thought that she would get under a time collector’s blade but when she dies of a fatal heart attack, she gets revived with the help of a wish and now she has a clocking heart inside her but sadly, the guy who put it there wants to take it out so she makes a biggest sacrifice to have another chance in life.

Elizabeth is pretty likable character that seemed very realistic. She’s a strong character with brave and headstrong personality who won’t give up without a fight. She doesn’t possess any amazing fighting skills but she’s willing to fight against the supernatural to save her loved ones and despite quaking with fear inside, she always shows a brave front which is a pretty admirable quality. Klaus is both mysterious and intriguing guy. His character intrigued me from the very start and I don’t even know how to describe this guy because he is neither good nor bad. The romance isn’t a central focus of this book but there is a glimpse of attraction between Elizabeth and Klaus. Unfortunately, certain events turns their relationship pretty much complicated so I really can’t wait to know how their relationship develops further in the next book. I’m also intrigued by the corrupt time collector also the villain of this book. He is a complex character just like Klaus and I’d love to know more about him. This book also has some interesting secondary characters that’ll appear in the second half and they really are a great addition to the plot.

The plot is captivating and engaging through out. From the first page, I was hooked to the story and it was hard to put it down even for a sec. It’s a fast paced read and the story has never left me bored. There are some interesting twists in the second half which made the story even more exciting to read. I’m not really fan of books written in third person perspective but surprisingly It didn’t bothered me in this book. I loved the writing style, it was smooth and compelling through out. The world the author created is simply amazing. The story is set in a steampunk world which is perfectly blended with the supernatural world. We have time collectors, supernatural creatures like witches, bacts, gargoyles and many more. I truly can’t wait to explore more of this world.

Overall, it was a great read! Despite few minor flaws, I’m glad it didn’t disappoint me. The story concluded with a minor cliffhanger that left me wanting for more and I really hope the author releases its sequel as soon as possible.

Publishers Description: have a clock for a heart…and the man who put it there tried to take it out. Time Collectors are modern day genies capable of exchanging wishes for time. Review: How come the cover girls’ hair is not white? Anyway, hottie-white-haired Beth Wicker is on the run from men who want to bang her, kill her, kidnap and rape her. She faints and cries a lot but has a tough mien and a heart of gold, um, errr…….iron? While the man she loves kills everyone that is important in her life, like family, she still pines for him. Not only that, but the man that killed her mother has a chub for her. Wait, what? Yeah, I am confused as well. Why this has to be rendered vile with unsupported emotions is beyondo.

If you begin to deconstruct this novel you are going to have a bad time. Like how Beth was a lowly floor scrubber made to be sold to the elite and raped etc. etc. BUT, she is really a noble herself and is saved from a life of destitution by her famous Father of the House Wicker. Yawn. Or how every interesting and viable character is killed off without regard.

So what’s good about it. World building and scene construction are epic. Supporting characters, and I mean all of them, are developed seamlessly with the movement. The writing is exceptional and takes some interesting and creative turns. The story line never follows a patterned model, but instead decides to go in various directions that ultimately strengthens the novel. I had a really late night reading this as I could not put it down. In the end, Beth was made palatable only by the entirety of the novels brilliance. A good start to this story might have been Elizabeth’s early demise and the rise of Catherine. Oh well.

i found this lacking in character development and worldbuilding, which is what i say with practically every steampunk book i read (has gail carriger's awesomeness ruined the whole genre for me?).

i think my main criticism is the lack of worldbuilding, because there was a hint of steampunk in elizabeth's mechanical clock heart but there didn't seem to be any other elements anywhere else. also, i was a bit confused by the concept of the lower-class girls attending the school that trained them to be maids and then they were sold, because it seemed like they were slaves and there could have been a really interesting dystopian reason for that (like in The Jewel or The Handmaid's Tale) but there wasn't. which was okay i suppose, but a bit boring.

now for the characters. again, elizabeth was okay but boring, which tbh is a phrase i could use to describe most aspects of this novel. arthur beaumontt was your typical one-dimensional Evil Person, which was also boring. klaus and nicholas were mildly interesting but not enough to render the whole book more interesting.

a good concept for a story, but hasn't quite managed to be executed properly.

I am blown away by the amount of planning and hidden secrets inside Time Weaver, it really is a fantastic read. There is just so much happening beneath the surface, every piece of dialogue was dripping with subtext and foreshadowing. You can just tell how much planning went into writing this novel, and I for one, really loved it.

I love the shift of Elizabeth's world, how it's never going to be just an easy life of wealth, especially when we are slowly introduced to the monsters and wars happening behind the scenes. It does seem a bit disjointed because there is a lot of things happening, but I can understand where the roots have been planted and how the plot will grow from every mistake and choice made by Elizabeth and those around her.

I do suggest taking it in carefully, like every conversation is riddled with double meanings it's really exciting once you've grasped the language of it. It can be easily missed, especially if you're not paying attention it can seem a bit random. Now that I can see where the secrets are, it makes this book like TEN TIMES better, and I already loved it in the first read.

Bravo Miss Maree, absolutely brilliant, and I can't wait to see how the plan will unravel in the next book.

Even when my schedule is full, I can find time for a book by Jacinta Maree; she really does weave a great story. Having said that, this wasn’t my favorite of her books. That trophy is held by the Immortal Gene series.

The problem I had was that I couldn’t conjure up a vision of the world. At times it was steam-punkish, and my imagination would get started, but then some of the technology would throw me off, and I would be thrown back to a modern image. I just felt like I didn’t belong in this world. There was a lot of plot going on, which became confusing at times. It certainly kept the pace flowing at a breakneck speed, but I almost felt like I would have been fine with moving slowly, taking a breath every now and then to get to know the setting and characters a little bit.

I really enjoyed Elizabeth as a main protagonist. She is still coming to realize her strengths, and she doesn’t wallow in her weaknesses. She no doubt still has a lot of room to grow, and I’m sure that the next book will reveal some of her secrets. The chapters also alternate with a few other characters, which brought a nice change of pace, and a welcome mixture of darkness and light. Characters were still being introduced, right up until the end. It’s a large cast, for sure, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they may not all survive…

The concept of time collectors is fascinating, but I also feel like there is a lot of learn about them. The rules they follow seem to be flexible at times, casting them into shades of grey. Be prepared to feel suspicion for the heroes, and sympathy for the villains. Their roles could change at any moment.

A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Epic

Jacinta Maree is not a new author to me, and I have been waiting for this book to release for ages. I was not disappointed. Her stories are always unique and have me on the edge of my seat. In Time Weavers she has created a dynamic world full of characters that are so vivid they leap off the page. The steampunk element isn't as present as I thought it was going to be, it's more like background noise; something that is just part of the world they inhabit. I would have liked to see more of it in the book though.

Time Collectors are such a unique concept. The history and mythology that is sprinkled throughout the book makes sure you never get a massive info dump that can sometimes ruin a story when you're trying to keep up with everything going on. I really cannot wait for book two now. There's a surprise at the end that isn't so much a cliffhanger, but will leave you going WHAT!?

I like the idea that this was a 'Steam Punk' novel, but I think it was a modern day steam punk, not set in a historical world like most people seem to do. I have never tried the genre before so can say it was a good way to enter into it. This book would be better classed as YA Dystopia first.

I love Jacinta's other series Soulless and felt that the writing in Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs was a little bit rushed. The ideas flew off the pages and jumped around a bit. The beginning of the story was wonderful and eased the reader in before the chaos of what was happening to all the characters started!

Loved the concept and look forward to seeing where this story goes.

A great, gripping and refreshing debut! I would definitely jump into this world if I could!

The novel takes place in a steampunk world where genies grant wishes in exchange of a persons’ time. Elizabeth Wicker is a seventeen year-old with a heart condition that lives with her mother and attends school girls of her station. The protocol of this school, however, dictates’ that she will be sold to a noble family as a maid after she turns eighteen. So once the time comes, Elizabeth is sold to her bully that is a member of one of the most powerful families in the country. Her nightmare of a life takes a darker turn when her mother is killed by a stranger and she is forced to turn to the time collectors. When she suddenly dies of a heart-attack, she is revived with a mechanical heart. Elizabeth races against time and is taken on a journey that will require a great sacrifice. Will she be able to make it? At what price?

A refreshing and gripping novel right from the very beginning. This was the first novel I read where genies have this kind of power over humans; it’s unique and very well thought. The story-line is pretty solid and it runs on a steady-pace. In the beginning the descriptions of this steampunk universe are great and the characters are all amazing. The third-person perspective allowed me to have a broader sense of the events, which I appreciate. The writing style is addictive and compelling.

Elizabeth is a good main character. She has the insecurities of a teenage-girl but she’s also impulsive and a fighter. A kind-hearted heroine with an innocent side, no afraid to do what she needs to: an admirable character that I could sympathise with. The chemistry with Klaus, the main male character, is nice and smooth. I would like to know more about his past but like this it just adds a very nice spice to the story, the fact that he’s the mysterious type.

A refreshing debut in a unique and unexplored world that I hope to read more about in the near future. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it to any readers looking for something different and new.

Timer Weaver is an entrancing story that will captivate you from page one. This book is full of intrigue, supernatural beings, adventure, and features a strong willed female lead. The plot to this book is extraordinary and thrilling. We get not one, but two conflicts that intertwine, lending peril and suspense to the story. We find ourselves in the middle of a struggle between two time collectors and join up with a team of supernatural hunters. We encounter witches and shadows, as well as evil humans. For fans of Doctor Who, Supernatural, and Stalking Jack The Ripper, this book will not disappoint!

Sometimes it is just too difficult to give praise to something without comparing it to something else. This book was definitely unique and was a major page turner, but it can also be compared to the two televisions series and the book mentioned above. With that being said, the comparison itself lends well deserved praise to Time Weaver because those three titles are highly successful in their own rights'.

Comparisons aside, I truly enjoyed Time Weaver and felt like it cast a magical spell on me. I loved the main character, Elizabeth. I mean, who doesn't love a strong, brave, headstrong, female character that is willing to fight for what she believes in and those she loves. I think her character was realistic and didn't succumb to the expectations of normal storybook females as far as falling in love with the first man who saves her.

Speaking of men. I also enjoyed the character of Klaus. You expect there to be a budding romance between he and Elizabeth, since we usually find that between two main characters, and what we end up with is a main character who is struggling against romance. He is not altogether a hero and not altogether a villain. I found him to be intriguing and dashing and terrifying at the same time.

I enjoyed this fast paced adventure with its twists and intrigues. I am very hopeful for a sequel and the continuation of Elizabeth's story. You will not be disappointed with this fantastical read!

A very interesting read! The only thing that gave me mixed feelings was that terrible things just kept happening to the main character the entire book without much of a break (so much that it started to get exhausting).

However, I absolutely love the concept of Time Collectors and the whole world that the author has built. I'll definitely be looking out for the next book!

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and author Jacinta Maree for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs is the first novel in Australian author Jacinta Maree’s new Time Collector series and is a riveting and engaging tale that introduces readers to a deeply mysterious but alluring world of steampunk and hair-splitting danger.

Elizabeth Blackmore is a young woman living on borrowed time. Suffering a dangerous heart problem, Elizabeth’s whole world changes forever when her mother passes away. With no one else, Elizabeth faces two choices; find herself sold off to a cruel lord as a maid, or reach out to her estranged father, the eccentric and mysterious Doctor Wicker in the hopes he will take her in. Becoming a Wicker changes everything Elizabeth knows as she finds herself discovering the dangerous world of Time Collectors; immortal beings who exchange wishes for time but whose inhuman abilities come with a price. When Elizabeth suffers a heart attack and she faces death, will the ultimate sacrifice be made to keep her alive? And what will happen when the Time Collector responsible for so much death catches up with Elizabeth?

I’ve previously had nothing by good experiences with Jacinta Maree’s books and was super stoked to read Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs. Drawing us into a vivid steampunk world, Time Weaver was highly entertaining. The tale primarily follows Elizabeth, but also often details situations concerning and featuring a few other minor characters including Klaus, who readers will quickly come to like and learn plays an intricate part in the story.

Time Weaver was quite an interesting book. Maree details a gritty Steampunk/Victorian world where magic and monsters exist and multidimensional and complex characters bring the story to life. I’ll admit there was a few times where the multitude of minor characters confused me and I needed to focus to keep track of everything that was happening; but I have no doubt there’s a reason behind each and every character and situation and that Jacinta Maree will let us all know and understand in time.

Personally I quite liked Elizabeth as the main character and thought her easy to follow and likable, but found myself most intrigued with Klaus and the Time Collectors. Maybe it was just me, but Time Weaver made me think about human complexity and human nature; especially as the novel progressed and some of the seemingly “bad guys” became more than they first appear.

Take Klaus for instance. The fact that he’s a love interest aside—I always seem to adore them regardless—Klaus is a very complex individual who brings about a range of emotions in me. What he is means he’s often the perpetrator of many questionable acts where lives are taken. Yet this is a fundamental part of what Klaus is. He can’t help it. There’s a coldness to him that Elizabeth is slowly starting to thaw and I actually felt sorry for him a lot of the time; especially towards the end of the novel where so much happened that was out of his control or he just didn’t mean to cause happen.

It’s fascinating to read a book and have a character start out as villain you anticipate hating, yet instead you see them in an almost human light as time goes on. Another strong personality within the story is Nikolas, whose determination knows no bounds and who towards the end of the novel finds himself experiencing emotions he wasn’t expecting. It’s intriguing, as so many of his actions have been out of love and the binds he experiences as a Time Collector.

As the first novel of a series, Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs offers us a glimpse and taste of this steampunk world Jacinta Maree has brought to life. There’s a lot going in within the story with various characters introduced and little snippets left to hint at more. The world of Time Collectors, Guardians and other creatures are full of possibilities and I for one am looking forward to seeing more of Elizabeth and Klaus and seeing where Jacinta Maree plans to take this promising series!

Wow!! Quote from, About the Author "Jacinta writes to bring enjoyment to others while fulfilling her own need to explore the weird and the impossible".
I met Jacinta at an author event FYM 17, the covers of her books caught my attention which had me curious! After talking with Jacinta, I made up my mind and purchased 'Time Weaver'. I am so glad I did.
Meet Elizabeth, living in the Pitts with her mother whilst the rich and nobles live in grand homes and manipulated all. Set in Steampunk world, Elizabeth went to an academy where she would be bid on to be a servant/maid once she turned 18. There was a filthy, pig of a guy, Arthur Beaumontt, (son of one of the wealthier, noble homes) who always treated Elizabeth terribly and was waiting for this day to bid on her. A terrible thing happens to Elizabeth and she is witness to a 'Time Collector'. Elizabeth is unaware of what she has seen, but is heartbroken regardless. The turn of events that take place after this incident are hazy and dream like to Elizabeth and cannot believe that Arthur did not win the bid for her but her father of house Wicker had. To go from the Pitts to a grand home and not have to work, was out of this world!! Elizabeth had so many questions but as you read on you will find all her questions cannot be answered straight away. Elizabeth notices strange things going on in her fathers home and becomes curious of this late night visitor. Elizabeth has been warned and going against her fathers warnings becomes friends with Klaus, who Elizabeth was told to "not speak, seek or acknowledge him". This is not a romance book to say, but an adventure/fantasy and every chapter had me wanting to know more. Anyone who doesn't mind YA or anyone wanting a different read, I highly recommend this book. Time Collectors are not what you think..................

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Time Weaver is a fantasy steampunk story with a decent helping of the supernatural thrown in. It focuses around Elizabeth, a young woman who finds herself rising through the class system while racing against time and Time Collectors, beings who can grant wishes in exchange for one's time. The book started out reasonably decent. Readers are introduced to the main characters, told the story behind the Time Collectors, and the world building started out nicely. However, I found that it got really muddled about 2/3 of the way through it. There was just too much going on with the witches and other supernatural beings mixed in with the nuances of the Time Collectors. It was hard for me to follow at times and also limited any further world building or character development. I felt that the author could have carried the story along a bit better (or maybe even made two books) if there was more division between the two sets of characters. I did enjoy the concept of the Time Collectors and feel that there is good potential there for further installments in the series.

I wanted to like this book, I really did. I think that the premise for it was well done and that the cover art is fantastic. That is about where it ends. The story was less steampunk, more modern day than I was expecting. You dont really see much of the world its not overly described, but what is described can only be deemed as modern and not Victorian at all. The main character was fine for the most part but seemed rather. . .helpless. And the plot. . .its. . .confusing and twisted. .and not consistent. Sometimes, the problems they face are immediately resolved. . .other times its a complicated sort of situation that requires more ingenuity thats all fine if it werent so inconsistent throughout and I am completely got lost in the story. . in a I dont really know whats going on kind of way. I wanted to like this book and I think that the actual idea behind it is rather interesting. .I just did not like the execution.

When Elizabeth wicker turns eighteen in a week she will be sold by the school she is attending to the highest bidder as a person maid, a servant ect… Elizabeth has a bidder one in which she wants no part of. Elizabeth is racing against the clock trying to find another bidder one in which she hopes will be a better offer for her.

When Elizabeth has a heart attack she learns of what is called Time Collectors. You can make wishes to Time Collectors but what you wish for may cost you more than you can or are willing to give so be warned what you wish for.

Elizabeth is a very strong girl who has a lot to deal with in her short life and now she has learned of a supernatural world with witches, Bacts and Time Collectors. Elizabeth is on the run for her life with one Time Collector trying to protect her and another wanting to take her time away. Elizabeth will fight to the end to save the ones she cares about to keep them safe and alive even if she does need a little help once in a while.

Come join Elizabeth in her fight against Time Collectors, witches, Bacts and other monsters in the supernatural world filled with so many twists and turns you want know which end is up.

Time Weaver is not the first book by Jacinta Maree that I have read so when I read the summary for Time Weaver and saw who the author I was like sign me up. I read Jacinta’s The Immortal Gene series and totally loved it. If you like reading books about the witches, monsters and the supernatural in general then let me suggest that you give Time Weaver a try you won’t be disappointed. I know I wasn’t. I can’t wait to read more of Elizabeth’s journey and more of Jacinta’s work.

Time Weaver: Heart of Cogs follows Elizabeth Wicker as she is introduced to the world of Time Collectors. Modern day genies granting wishes in exchange for time. This story kept me wanting to read more with every page and for me, it didn't disappoint. I loved the characters, the story itself and the steampunk world it was set in. I liked the way that you read from multiple character views, seeing how the other characters begin to develop alongside Elizabeth.
This is a great read that holds your attention the whole way through. I didn't want to put it down and a part of me was hoping to drag it out longer than I did.

Once again Jacinta has manage to create a world in which the reader can immerse themselves into the story, be apart of the characters lives, feeling what they feel, hope, love, hate ,betrayal. Discovering a writer/story that doesn't just bring words to a page but another world between its covers is hard to find, Time weaver is a masterpiece in story telling that offers the reader a time out from there life to enjoy another spectacular one with in its pages. I can't wait for the next book to continue to live through Elizabeth and delve back into this beautiful ,scary unpredictable world.

Going into this book, I figured it would be a little more fast paced that it was. I enjoyed the story and the Industrial London setting infused with steampunk was interesting, but it is very clear, based on the pace of the story, that it is the first in a series. I would like to read the second book when it's out to see how the characters continue to evolve as more of the story is told.

However this was not my cup of tea. Interesting in places but I didn't love it.

Interesting story -- plainly a set up for a continuing series. This is a new genre for me --I'm trying to broaden my fiction experience -- so maybe some of my criticisms are due to unfamiliarity with expectations here. My first critique is that sometimes the language seems to be to willfully eccentric. Phrases that seem to have the 'wrong' word. I like surprising wordplay, generally, but there was just a little too much of it. Again, maybe it's my expectation at fault. Another problem, for me, was the way new main characters, groups, monsters, etc. are introduced every few chapters, right up until near the end. This is why I see it as setting the stage for a series, the whole thing seems expository. But it was a good story; I'll be interested to see how it continues.

Time Weaver is an interesting read. This isn’t my usual go-to genre. But I’ve read some of Jacinta’s books previously, and I loved them.

Elizabeth Wicker has had a hard life. So many things happen to her throughout this story. That you’re left wondering, What’s next? The whole concept of Time Collectors was intriguing.

The only thing is, Time Weaver didn’t have that pull on me. It did take awhile to finish. Jacinta’s writing style is wonderful. But I was unable to connect with the characters on an emotional level.

Overall, I give this Three Boundless Stars.
