Is anybody out there? After a long winter spent hunkering down in Wyoming, Bree, Nate, and the gang are back on the road. The harsh temperatures up in the northern regions might have decimated the undead scourge somewhat, but soon they have to face it’s not just zombies that are out there to hunt people down and kill them. For humanity to have a fighting chance to rebuild a semblance of civilization, everyone will have to work together—and resources are scarce. Someone will have to go out there and face the danger—and maybe find out what happened to the undead that were smart enough to flee the cold. Only the strong and smart have survived, making everyday life just a little more deadly for everyone. I managed to make it about halfway through this book before abandoning the Green Field series altogether. I can only take so many references to Nate smiling and odd treatment of his 'girlfriend' and Bree's incessant, "Are you f*ing kidding me"-s. After a while I feel like they are simply recycling the same kind of plot - bicker, get caught up in zombie horde, manage to escape, find safe place, have sex, rinse and repeat. The first two books seemed ok, but I just could not invest further in the series as it has become increasingly predicable and silly.
Having survived the first winter tucked away in isolated Wyoming, Bree, Nate and their team have become somewhat complacent in this new apocalypse. Having survived in a fully stocked bunker and with the freezing of zombie's their guards are down until they remember it's more than just zombie's out there.
Lecter really shows the growth of character in Bree in this story. She is no longer mourning her previous life, but embracing her new bad a** role. Bree is 100% herself despite all attempts at militarizing her nature. In Escalation, she begins to take a more active role in decision making. She's determined an equal by her team. Lecter keeps the action, the survival and the suspense going as this team crawls back out of the bunker to see what remains of their world.
Very enjoyable series so far. I give this book four stars as it wasn't quite as good as the previous two.
Of the series so far I'll say that the plot mostly makes up for them but I do have some complaints. There have been some minor issues with grammar/word choice. There have also been numerous issues with continuity; in this book for instance someone made reference to weeks when it had only been days.
Excellent! Adrienne does it again. Escalation started up right where it left off, and didn't disappoint throughout. The characters are well developed and entertaining. There is plenty of suspense, and some excellent fight scenes.
If you're looking for a good zombie series, the Green Fields books are your cure.
What a great series. Can't wait for #4 . Gritty, but not enough to turn you off from completely devouring these stories. I would recommend this series to anybody who wants to read a well written, excitement packed zombies series.
Yeah, I gave this one a slightly higher rating than the second book but only because of the insight on how a dystopian world could begin to evolve. That and it did address a concern of my as to how Bree could completely cut off her scientific, logical mindset to become this... badass warrior who does nothing but complain. I really am tired of the bickering going on between the two main characters. I had begun to question the syntax and the word usage in the last one and was unhappy to see that it continued - and dare I say, worsened - in this one. Since I am on the Kindle Unlimited plan and I am reading these book for next to nothing, I am continuing the series. It does have a unique slant for a zombie PA story and it is really hard to find a read in this genre without some flaws. Am into #4 right now, but it doesn't look good so far. I have stretched my willingness to suspend disbelief about as far as I can go.
Lately I'm on an apocalypse binge. I have been reading this series back to back.
Sometimes I shake my head, as some things are very improbable, but as it is the apocalypse, why not? Things can be a bit upside down and weird. Science has flown out of the window after all.
I have to say, when I decided to settle down and just take things as they come, I enjoyed the books very much. It is a different take, sometimes more edgy, other times lighter. Well blended action and human interest to keep the reader glued to the pages.
I am currently at book 6, but I'm a bit stuck, so I'm taking a small break.
Is Bree ready for brunch? Time to find out. She finds life tough, but she is tougher. Finding new friends, expanding her arsenal, trying to be one of the guys. Things happen, some bad, others good. It is time to choose sides, meet some old ‘friends.’ Well not exactly, just throw something on the Barbie, and see what’s cooking. Being the odd person out can be difficult, but not overwhelming. Find out how she fairs with her fears, angst, and love. Don’t get stuck in the past and it won’t come back to haunt you. Now it is on to volume four, and many more to go.
I promised myself I was going to take my time and not just inhale this book. But I couldn’t. I read it in one day. It was just too good to put down and focus on something else. I am so in love with this group of characters. I feel the rush of getting out of tight situations and the pain of losing a friend and comrade. Please go back to the first book as I’ve said before and start there.. It’s such a wonderful journey, you will not be disappointed.
Escalation was a hard to put down read!! Cannibals and Zombies are not the favorites of our crew. Every time they look around, there is something worse to deal with, as they try to save themselves and others in dire need. Bree has to make a hard decision, as they wind up in a different settlement, after saving women and children from the Cannibal group. Me? I'm off to read book 4...lol
In my opinion, Adrienne Lecter's Green Fields Series is the best of the best! Hands down my favorite series in the genre. Start with book one and work your way through book 9, which I understand is soon to be released. Kiss ass action, romance that is real and well just damn hot. Watching the evolution and development of her main characters is so fun to read. Can't say enough about this series! Love Adrienne's books!
First, this book is long, way longer than most books in the genre and that's AWESOME!!! Second, there has yet to be a lull in the story. No "episodes" to struggle through. The action is non-stop and the story continues to flow naturally. There's nothing forced here. Bree and the guys can be laugh out loud funny or they can be tragic, whatever the situation calls for. Can't wait to see where they end up next.
We have watched our main character grow from an inept intellectual into a self confident intelligent survivalist. A survirolist if you please. I look forward to reading the next edition in this series. The first few episodes have been full of cliffhangers and close calls. We lost some memorable crew members along the way... Who will survive in the end.
Each book in this series seems to get more and more interesting. The author has some rather unique ideas and takes her time in revealing them. She could have easily given all of the details in the first book but chose to have things unravel over time. Looking forward to the 4th.
I have to say this series gets better with every book. As with the other two, took me a little to get hooked into the plot. Once it's done I can't stop reading. That's why the 5 stars In every book there's more info about what's happened and is happening as a whole story. That's great for me. Can't wait to see what's next and specially I want to see Bree grow up as a person.
I'm on lockdown as I have the clusterfuck virus..day 6 now so, I'm reading ALOT! And I'm already a big reader... I love these books! Just about to start no4.. Fast paced, great character's, plenty of action and relatable character's.. Highly recommended!
This series is just amazing! I’m loving the drama and the characters. This one made me cry. And of course laugh and want to throat punch nate. Even tho I really like him. I love the world building and how it flows and the journey just continues. About to jump in the next book
I thought book one showed promise. Book two was bad Nate is very abusive to Bree and I didn’t understand why she let everyone beat her up when she supposedly messed up. Book three was DNF at 40% Nate mistreatment of Bree became unbearable for me to continue to suffer through.
Almost think, these characters got a personality change, the ones in this book, looking to stop cannibals, isn't the same group that was fine in last book to leave a little girl to most likely sex slavery.
guess since this turned into a long series, the 2 main characters, Nate & Bree ... needed heroic qualities? while ignoring what happened in the last book
Continuing the saga of my newest heroes in one of the better post apocalypse stories I have read. Interesting, unientifiable characters and we'll plotted storylines make for enjoyable reading.
I loved this third book in the series! They just keep getting better and better. Brianna Lewis has changed completely from the very routine urologist she began as. This has a lot of action and important life changing decisions to make.
This was a hell of a rollercoaster with some parts that left me grossed out to the max to almost cheering. I really like this series so far and I'm curious as to what other adventures Adrienne Lecter is going to take us on.
Dnf 10% Just can't do another book. Very little dialogue. Now they are back on the road and I can't do more of the cat and mouse with zombies. Also, just looked at the synopsis of the rest of the books in the series, and I'm glad I'm stopping here. Not my type of books!
Following Bree Nate and the rest of the lucky thirteen as the slash their way through the Zombie Apocalypse . Full of blood guts and action . Would definitely recommend this series.
An absolutely amazing third book in the Green Fields series. I’m finding them so easy to read and get into each book with no problem. The story is simple and yet makes for compelling reading. Looking forward to the next book.
Wow I'm so loving this series, it's like a great adventure story and yes there are zombies but this is more about the people who survive and live through every thing thrown at them, definitely a good read and I will be reading all the books in this series as its to good to put down
