Married at sixteen, a mother twice by seventeen, and thrice a mother and divorced by twenty-four, Adrienne Thompson is no stranger to adversity. Not your typical teenage mother, she went on to complete her college degree and to earn her nursing license. She attributes God's faithfulness as the catalyst for her success in life. Now, having raised three children as a divorced mother, she is sharing a long hidden talent and passion with the world. Using the lessons that life has so expertly taught her as a guideline (betrayal, abusive relationships, self-esteem issues, witnessing the deteriorating effects of drug abuse), she has created stories that will both entertain and inspire the reader.

Adrienne currently resides in Arkansas in her newly empty nest. Formerly an RN, she now writes and publishes her stories full time. She is also a motivational speaker.

Love this author!!!!

Kudos to Adrienne Thompson for yet another excellent read!!! Like always her characters are relatable and multidimensional. Von and her sister's relationship is one that is all too familiar. And August though!!! He's a keeper.

I am never surprised. This was a very good book and the message so real. Depression is real and everyone goes through it in some form. Some can be extreme as with Von, but she came out of it well after escaping her sisters chains. I loved as always how Adrienne told the store and always it had me from the first page. I loved how August stepped in and took control even admitting he was afraid, something most men will admit verbally. I liked how he still remained after hearing Von's story. Most men would run for the hills when they hear about the issues of what a woman experienced at the hand of the previous man. I can't wait to read the next book. Bravo!

After the Pain, there is joy!

Joy always comes after the pain, if we can just keep that faith. Adrienne has allowed us a close visit with what wallowing in others pain, and being consumed with guilt can do to the psyche. Still God always has a plan for our lives once we get out of the way. Beautiful story of love, faith, and renewal!

I truly enjoyed the first installation of this new series from Ms. Thompson. Being that I'm over forty, I loved reading about someone in my age range who has experienced some of the pains that I have. Therefore, I identified well with this character, her development, and the outcome of the novella. Although this story was only about 100 pages, it packed a lot of family drama and dealt with a very real emotional issue called depression. Something that many authors (and families) gloss over.

Kudos to Ms. Thompson for attacking a difficult subject and dealing with it in a realistic manner. There's something in this one for every family, whether you want to admit it or not. This is a must read for every adult!

Awesome job! This story is filled with drama and a serious issue that people don’t like to talk about; depression. Depression is a serious issue that families do not like to deal with. There are so many times people do what their spouses or siblings what them to do and forget about pleasing themselves.

Excellent Read

Von. Poor thing, she had lived the life her sister created for her, she'd taken care of her since their mother died. Evetta felt like Von owed her for the life she provided her to live. Evetta treated Von like a prisoner of her pain. Never allowing Von to live life on her terms, she berated her for everything, making her feel enslaved to the sacrifices she felt she made to care for Von. Von never knew what her life was supposed to be, until she met August. Everything changed and life for Von changed..This aS such a great read; I'm never disappointed with Adrianne Thompson 's work. She writes with such passion, which pulls you into the story as you are reading. She nailed it, again. I read this book in two days.

Shooketh

I was so surprised to find this jewel. I was shocked to find that she also pens under another name that I'm quite familiar with. This book is real and brings to light the reality of depression and what it can look like. I loved August and Von's story. Evetta was evil and I would go so far as to say she was jealous, too. Both sisters responded differently to the stresses inflicted on them. I absolutely love seeing my name in any story. I chuckled because now I am in on the inside joke regarding my name ... well, not really because the joke was on me. I am going to binge read all of these books. Wow, just wow!

I picked the book because this was a romance with two grown Black people and I wanted to read more of these stories. I did not know it was a fade-to-black romance. It is not what I usually read, but I am so glad I did. I loved reading this woman who had been so broken put herself back together and did some of it before she ever met this man. He helped her to make her final transition to whom she wanted to be. I loved the romance, the slow burn, and the final battle with her sister. Such a great story and wonderful writing.

Great Story

Von’s story really touched me. I can relate to her story more than I care to admit. Depression is real, and when you have people around you who play on your guilt makes it ten times worse. I’m glad she found her happiness. God is good and he knows exactly what we need and when we need it!!

Super fast pace book. I'm talking love at first sight and we're meant to be even though we just met. That's the only thing I didn't like. I know there is more history behind the main character but this is a novella. There are two other parts.

Suffer no more.

Excellent tale of how manipulation a low self-esteem can destroy one's spirit. Von's recovery provided a redemptive , happy ending.

What would you do if you had an overprotective sister; who basically ran your life since you was a teenager until you were in your mid-forties? Well, Evetta went under server depression and a tough time from her sister Von.

This book is also part of a series too. Evetta lost her husband, almost her mind, but found the inner strength to love again. I enjoyed the story line, however the chapters seemed rushed. Evetta fell in love with a man name August while trying to escape depression, her sister, and where she once called home.

From reading and understanding, Evetta didn't seem like a very strong character and I didn't feel a strong connection with her. I didn't feel like I should feel sorry for her at all.

Depression is deadly. Evetta couldn't seem to stop feeling sorry for herself, until she found love and the truth about her sister. I wished the characters were more developed, so we could have a better mental image of her sister. The title in a way did not match the story line well either.

In conclusion, I will be reading more from this author and from the series. If you are looking for a quick and good read, I truly would recommend this book to any one over the age of 18.

One of my favorites!

From the first sentence of this book, LaVonda's story drew me in. It's one of those reads that leaves you pondering and itching for for a good discussion.

I so enjoy reading books that are so real that you wanna call up the person and say "gurl, how you doing? What's been going on?"

To me, the most important gift that LaVonda opened was the gift of her own voice. Silence is not always golden. When we allow others to dictate who we are and what we do, we find ourselves in desperation, despondence, and utter disaster. We have to let those people or things who try to control us know that our life is not in their hands!

LaVonda's journey to healing will have you cheering hard for her recovery. You will be on the edge of your seat like "girl, don't do that!" or "sistah, you better werk."

This book was a great, quick read. I think i read it in an hour. When I started the book I had a massive headache but the pain receded as I found myself entrenched into the story of a woman finding herself after her husband's death.

I liked the way the character describes her mental ongoings as she suffers from depression. I thought it was accurate and a welcome relief to deal with women who have a mental disorder like depression. The depression coupled with the her sister's and husband's overbearing attitude made for a character you felt sorry for.

Yet, at the same time, you also were rooting for her. Wanting her to get better, find love. Even though the love match was quick, it made sense the more you progressed. I can't wait for the next one.

After the Pain

Adrienne Thompson has done it again with After The Pain. There were times in this story when I wanted to shout for joy and cry because of the pain.

Ms. Thompson captured Von's depression so completely until you could feel her falling into darkness and it made you want to rescue her. I was able to understand the decisions Von made and her need to escape. And I love how strong August was, even though he had been through a lot and was still struggling, he was strong. He knew that God could put broken pieces back together. This man's willingness to stay true to God was beautiful. This is a superb story and now I need to read book 2.

Another Booga Bear!

I read this story in one sitting. I couldn't stop! The characters are unforgettable, and in true Adrienne Thompson style, the music element was the perfect launch for each chapter. Von and August are the perfect flawed couple who deserve a HEA ending. The side characters play key roles that keep the storyline moving. That Evetta!
Adrienne Thompson, you have done it again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way!

I was disappointed

***Spoiler** I liked the storyline and the spiritual base of the book. It was spiritual but then the 2nd time the female character see the man they kiss. Also they were practically living together but they where waiting to have sex. Things just didn't flow according to the book theme.
