I read the translation on midnightscrolls website. A drama adaptation was released not too long ago but it deviates so drastically, which is typical of c-dramas, that I would call it inspired, not based on.
I have mixed feelings about the so-called love or romance in this story. Readers of today's spicy romantasy schlep could say this is an early grandmother to the hybrid genre. What I did admire was the author's portrayal of women's lives in the era. The modern-minded woman was not realistic but as a fictional story it was an interesting meditation on what could have been if women could have had room to breathe and live even just a little bit in that suppressive culture.
Though there was no magic and it was set historically, I would still classify it as fantasy. The ending was neat, tidy, and convenient.
