Al Richardson agreed to open a bed and breakfast with his wife after his retirement, but he still has a year and a half left at his job when Millie spies a business opportunity with the arrival of Goose Creek's 200-year anniversary celebration. Even though Al suspects that Millie pulled a bait-and-switch on him, he firmly believes she should stick to their original plan. While Millie's ambition puts a strain on their marriage, she is confident in her ability to be the most gracious Southern hostess. But even she has to admit that her first group of guests is undeniably an odd collection. Meanwhile, the town's anniversary plans are in a state of chaos as the celebration committee scrambles to raise the necessary funds--an effort spearheaded by a "newcomer," which ruffles more townsfolk's feathers than a whole flock of enraged geese. Goose Creek has lasted 200 years. Can it survive the next month? Find out in The Room with the Second-Best View, the third installment of the Tales from the Goose Creek B&B series!

Well, I made it through the book and it earned my average rating--but barely. I do think I read another book from this series in the past but haven't checked yet to see.
Al must really love Millie, because I, as a reader, wanted to throttle her several times (though I wouldn't do it in real life--but she would have heard a piece of my mind). Al and Millie have a plan and she deliberately invited people to stay without consulting him about it at all. I can't blame him for being upset. I do admire him for pitching in after Millie got hurt.
I do admire Millie sticking up for Lulu. Lulu really did put a lot of work into the application and did seem to know her stuff (especially when she stood up to Mark Logan). Yes, Lulu needs to work a bit on her "filters" but it might just be a nervous thing when she's around people she doesn't know well or who she thinks might be judging her.
Lorna sounds like the guest from h-e-double hockey sticks. I thought Ross might be cut from the same cloth at first, but he turned out to be a fairly likable guy. And I'm gathering Susan's relatives were not so bad based on the ending--though we really don't get to see much of them.
I wonder if the twins have learned a lesson?
Bottom line is that I probably wouldn't seek out other books in this series though I do wonder if they will get the grant/program.
Al and Millie are restoring an older house that they will be using as a bed and breakfast after retirement. However as Millie tries to help out a friend with her upcoming wedding by doing a "trial run" for the grooms family, she finds she may have bitten off a little too much. I really enjoyed this book that is part of a series I look forward to more books by this author. I was provided a copy of this ebook by NetGalley in return for an honest review. This book will be released on September 1,2016
Another delightful Goose Creek story. Laugh-out-loud funny. If, like me, you're a Fanny Flagg fan you'll love the Goose Creek books! Looking forward to the Christmas novella - A Goose Creek Christmas.
This is the third book in the Tales from Goose Creek B&B series and I have read and enjoyed every one! The characters are lovable and you will find yourself getting attached to the residents of small town Goose Creek, Kentucky. I can't wait for the next book!
A joy to read. As another reviewer stated: "The only problem I have with this series is I read them too quickly! I try to pace myself but always end up finishing way too soon."
Susan and Justin's wedding is close. Millie, hot-headed as she is, plans to unofficially open their B&B just a bit sooner (read: 2 years sooner), so she invites a few guests to stay with them in hopes Al would be OK and everything will process smoothly. Wrong assumption.
The town prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary - but there are no money. Some funding is possibly available - and the potential conflicts is in brewing for the position of a fund manager, mainly as Lulu Thacker steps up to the challenge.
Relationships are tested, obstacles are to overcome and the prejudices are to be explored in this hilarious, witty novel. I have laughed like crazy, I nodded my head in considerations and I have even cringed as the faulties in the characters hitted close to home a few times. Humans are petty here - and also loving, warm and full of surprises. This is a whole food for thought hidden here in the guise of a parsnip cake (which I need to try!). Great read which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Millie finally gets her trial run at the Bed and Breakfast. She gets her husband Albert to reluctantly agree to a practice run with some of Susan’s relatives coming to town for her wedding.
What no one was expecting was for Sudan’s future in-law Lorna to come to town three weeks before the wedding. To make things even worse, poor Millie has recently taken a fall down her steps and hurt her arm. So Albert has to manage their unexpected guest.
I thought this was funny and found Millie sweet as always.
In book three, we have Millie & Al working to get their B&B ready but still have a year or two to go. So how do they end up with guests? Well it has to do with Susan and Justin's wedding. No spoiler but Aunt Lorna can leave you speechless.
Meanwhile Goose Creek is prepping to celebrate their 150th anniversary and that's a story of its own. When LuLu is in charge of a report, it gets interesting.
Fun things happen and this book leaves you smiling. I do with there would be book 4. I know there are couple novellas I have to read but a book 4 would be welcome.
Another enjoyable entry into this series about life in small town Goose Creek, Kentucky and the people who live there. The main characters are Albert & Millie who are renovating an old house to turn into a B&B when Albert retires in two year's time. In this one, the local vet, Susan, is marrying a local boy. The other story-line involvs getting ready for the town's 150th anniversary.
Great characters, enjoyable story-line and all done without sex or profanity. A great read.
I enjoyed the book very much. In this book a 'snooty' aunt arrives at the B&B three weeks prior to the wedding of her nephew and the local vet and how her 'persuasion' and suggestions cause more tension and confusion. The various characters and the daily events kept the story interesting, entertaining and moving right along. I loved how Albert helped and stood behind his wife, Millie at every turn. I have read and enjoyed the other books in this series.
The best in the series for me so far. This book revolves around the B&B mostly; and the effects Justin and Susan's wedding and Aunt Lorna have on it. The book is not about Justin and Susan though and for that I was grateful. There are some town interactions that were quite memorable also. Very humorous and inviting. A book I would certainly revisit. No romance and that was probably my favorite part. I sure do wish Christian authors could write more of this caliber instead of just romance.
This was story was hilarious and infuriating at the same time! I could never had put up with Lorna and would have given her a piece of my mind before Al couldn't even said a word. But in spite of my thoughts about Lorna, this was another wonderful story. I really hope Virginia Smith write more about Goose Creek.
Another great book on Virginia Smith’s Goose Creek series. I love the characters in this series, she writes them well. Ain’t Lorna is a trip, especially with her last minute gotcha. The books in this series are easy reads with engrossing characters and story lines.
An entertaining story line with delightful characters and a charming little town I would love to visit. It's easy to follow even if you haven't read the first two of the series, but I recommend them, too. These books are a great read for winding down after a hectic day.
I know this was supposed to be a comedy, but I just didn’t find it all that funny. My first book by this author. I’m in the minority with my opinion of this book, but I suppose, to be fair, I'll give another of her books a try.
Millie and Al had a crash course in B&B 101 when Justin's great aunt descended upon them three weeks prior to Justin and Susan's wedding. More shenanigans and quirky familiar characters made this a pleasant return to a nice little town.
A pretty good end to this series. Not my favorite books, but they were sweet and kind and what I needed after reading several intense and creepy books. A nice escape.
