Hearing the voice of God can feel mysterious and out of reach for many believers. Prayer is supposed to be a conversation, but for many it feels like a monologue. This yearlong devotional shows the beautiful simplicity of spending time with God.
Written during David Chadwick's prayerful readings through Scripture, Hearing the Voice of God records the gentle messages of encouragement and hope God laid on his heart. Drawn from the Gospel of John, the disciple "whom Jesus loved," these devotions reflect God's desire for intimacy and relationship with us.
Each daily reading begins with an excerpt from John and is followed by a prayer. While not inspired, these words accurately and biblically echo the heart of God as heard in Scripture. An excellent addition to your daily devotions, Hearing the Voice of God will draw you closer to the Father's heart.

David Chadwick has been the pastor of Forest Hill Church in Charlotte, North Carolina since 1980. He played basketball at and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, then joined a professional basketball league for three years in Europe. He has MDiv and DMin degrees from Columbia Theological Seminary.
At times I found Chadwick’s interpretation too simplistic rather than pleasant and easy to read. He made some points I really could not agree with but in other places I found myself enjoying his take on John’s Gospel.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of Hearing the Voice of God through the publisher and Netgalley:
This Devotional reminds us that the Lord is not the author of darkness, but he is the path of light. We are reminded that Jesus put on human flesh because of his love for us.
The Voice of God reminds us to stop and listen to the still small voice of God. It reminds us to pause and take the time out to communicate with him.
This Devotional would be a great edition to your Personal Devotional times.
This is a beautiful, daily devotional book that is easy to read and great for self reflection. I highlighted a lot of quotes from the book, some of the quotes really stuck with me. Some of my favorite quotes are: • Today, as you awaken in the morning and watch the sun nod into the evening, remember it's his world. When you enjoy the tantalizing tapestry, the magnificent majesty, the delightful design of his colorful creation, know that he made it all for you to richly enjoy. • Finally, even as you grow older, he still cares for you. He saves his best wine until the end. He saves people's best years in life to be their last years. Age is just a number. It means nothing to him. All he cares about is your faithfulness. • Because of this humanity, there is no temptation that you face that he is not aware of. When you become weary, remember that he became weary. When you feel alone, know that he felt the same way,

A great exposition of the book of John. This book takes you gradually through the book of John in the New Testamen. I found it ideal for grasping a deeper understanding of the book which differs from the synoptic gospels and at a level which the lay person should be easily able to understand. The only drawbacks were that it would have been better to have a version of John included with the exposition and a concluding prayer. I was given this book by Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
This book is basically cut and dry - they give you a Scripture verse then they give you a paragraph or two that gives you a story that can pertains to the Scripture voice. It covers a lot of territory. There are a lot of subjects - sometimes it is very dry but it is ok. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
