"So, you wanted my first three adventures collected in one place, did you? Very well. But don’t say I didn’t warn you, dear reader . . ."
When the mage Joshua and his vampire father team up to find the former’s kidnapped witch mother, they don’t expect things to go smoothly. But they also don’t expect to open a Pandora’s Box of supernatural secrets—ones that might end the world as we know it.
In their race around the globe to vanquish these threats, Joshua and his allies must go up against several deadly forces. There are snooping mortals from the Paranormal Investigation Agency that threaten to undo them. The High Council of Witches that tries to destroy them. Skilled assassins with grudges. Recently-made vampires, eager to put their new killing powers to good use. And ancient vampires and body-snatching demons who want to brutally rule humanity.
Then there’s the mysterious crystal that could be the key to solving all of this. There must be a connection between it and the catastrophes piling up. But throw in some beheadings, bombs, and poison gas attacks, and Joshua may not live long enough to figure out what that connection is.
How many times can a mage save the world? That depends on how many times he can survive.
This omnibus contains the first three full-length novels in this urban fantasy THE AGE OF MAGES THE MAGE'S TRICK THE LAST MAGE
Hi! I’m Ilana Waters, USA Today bestselling author of the Mage Tales and Dark Fae Decree.
I write urban fantasy for those who like it fast, funny, and fierce. If you’re into cross-blended creatures (witch-vampire hybrids, half-breed mages) and supernatural ass-kicking, I'm all over that. Ditto if your book turn-ons are equal parts creepy and action-packed (ancient cities, crypts, beheadings, bombs, etc.).
I have read all of Ilana Water's books in the Mage Tales series and I love them. Her writing is brilliant and the characters jump off the page. Joshua has to try and save the world (as well as his mother in The Age of Mages) all the while trying to live up to his vampire father's very high expectations. The stories are fast and fun and Josh talks directly to us, the readers, which I don't usually like but is in keeping with the tone of the books and works very well here. Josh is funny, sarcastic, sometimes bewildered, but never gives up. Titus, his father, is arrogant, sarcastic, taciturn, high-handed and absolutely perfect. He is my favourite character. The settings are beautifully described, especially Rome, and it is easy to imagine yourself alongside Josh and his friends as they battle evil. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone.
I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the character talking to the reader but it works in these books. The characters development throughout the series helps you invest in their issues. I found myself rooting them on in several scenes - even ones that weren't so likeable in the beginning. I definitely recommend these to readers that like vampires and witches. I'm excited to get the next one.
I started this series with rather low expectations after having received a copy of the box set Mage Tales I-III. I ordered it not realizing at the time that it did not really fit in with my preferred genre. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to be drawn into a fast paced adventure that had me awake into the wee hours of the morning. I read all three books in one sitting, and was unable to put it down until I had finished every word. I am looking forward to reading more of Joshua's tales soon.
Disclaimer : “I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review”.
A mildly entertaining book. The constant talking to the reader got on my nerves... Just tell the story already! I just felt like nothing knit the series together as a whole. Other than the characters the plot had an absence of nuance. I did enjoy the characters and wanted to know more about them. I read books fast... And this one failed to hold my interest.
A fantastic set of books with humorous with fast paced adventure. The books were entertaining and really delightful. I look forward to more of Me Water's works.
Good triumph's over evil. Characters keep you wanting more. Families are not always the same, but love prevails. Caring about one another makes the world a better place.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The characters seemed to come to life. The descriptive words enabled me to picture every scene. A very good read.
