Duke has always been the black sheep of the Marquette family. While his cousins were making billions, Duke was busy getting thrown out of the army and landing inside jail. He never cared too much about anyone else, least of all falling in love.
Then he started working at the famous Marquette's restaurant in New Orleans, his cousins' venture. Creed demanded responsibility, but the word wasn't in Duke's vocabulary. Not until he met Takiyah Silver.
At first Duke wanted her blond friend, but he couldn't get the sexy Kiyah out of his head. Kiyah was all about taking care of her teenage son and making a living. When her son gets into serious trouble that could destroy Kiyah's well-ordered life, Duke wants to step up. But how can a woman like her depend on a man who has nothing to offer?
I'm surprised that I enjoyed this one much more than I thought I would. I positively loved Duke and Takiyah. At first it seemed like a very unlikely love, and I kept wondering if by the end of the book how on earth they would end up together. But they seemed to change and live up to exactly what the other needed. Duke was especially naughty and it just seemed right that Takiyah knew exactly how to handle him. I adore this couple!!
Love this series! After reading about the Marquette black sheep cousin Duke in the three previous books I wondered how Ms. Lockwood would "lock him down." This story of how he shows us his true colors, explains why he was always in so much trouble and finally cements his place in the Marquette family is a great read. I wonder if this series will continue with any of the other secondary characters like Basil, or Talicia's brother.
Ok I'm in love! The Marquette Family Series is awesome! I had some personality issues with some of the characters but all in all I enjoyed them all! Although I must admit, of all the men, I'm in love with Duke! It's that bad boy swagger that's exciting but dangerous that draws you! I know he's just character in a book but if he were real he'd definitely be who I'd want! Hope there are more stories from the Marquette Family! :)
This was a wonderful conclusion to a great series.I love the fact that Duke was a little rough around the edges ,but a serious code of ethics. This was such a really good story and written so well that you were always on the edge of your seat. There were of course a few times I became a little frustrated with Takiyah. But you can not mistake the chemistry between these two characters.Yes this so book club worthy and one you want to keep in your library.
I love Tressie Lockwood and the Marquette men. However, most of these women in this series hit a bad chord. I can't stand Shada from Creed. She is such a B! The men are sexy and wonderful and make it worth the read. Can we get women who aren't so attitudinal in the next series?
Well what can I say, this book was very entertaining, the Marquette family of beautiful manly men did not disappoint. Easy and quick read, I hope there is another story winging its way to us as I can they enough of them!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Glad that Duke finally met his match. I have enjoyed reading about the Marquette's and hope that Teesside continues the series.
I'm glad this series ended on just as good a note as all the other Marquette books. I hope this isn't the end for the family. I'd like a update on them from time to time. Please keep the great books coming Tressie
Despite the two star rating, I didn't despise the two main characters Takiyah and Duke. I just had an issue with the breakneck speed of their relationship. Just wasn't enough depth to make their love for one another seem believable. And that might seem like a ridiculous request to make when it comes to fiction, but I need my fiction to make logical sense at least 80% of the time lol.
Now it might not seem to make logical sense to *cough* haters and naysayers that four successful (well, Duke wasn't a self-made man but he's working on it) white guys would fall in love and marry black women. Although it's widely accepted that successful black men will marry non-black or racially ambiguous women and no one bats an eye. I can give points to the author for not making the Marquette men seen like fetishists. Although Duke did have some cringe moments where he objectified Takiyah and her best friend Adele, saying he wouldn't mind taking Takiyah's ass and putting it on Adele who is white thus making her the perfect woman for him. Ugh. But that's very real. Because it seems that having bodies that black women are known for is the trend but it only seems to be acceptable when non-black women carry that shape.
Anywho, this book was simple to get through. Hits the usual notes and concludes with a nice shiny bow.
He is a cool guy. He is the bad boy of the family. He sees a blonde hair woman across the room and target her for a nightly romp, he approaches her but instead of her he meets her friend, a feisty African American woman and boy does he change his mind. Takiyah is more than his match. Good writing good story Would recommend
This was much better. I liked Duke from Day 1. He and Creed are by far the best of the Marquettes. I liked how him and Kiya met and fell in love. This one was more believable.
