In this hard-hitting collection of 4 essays, Dr Wilson cuts straight to the YOU WERE LIED TO! You were lied to about the nature, character, and cause of the American “Civil War," but that is just the start. The entire South—its people, culture, history, customs, both past and present—has been and continues to be lied about and demonized by the unholy trinity of the American Academia, Hollywood, and the Media. In the midst of the anti-South hysteria currently infecting the American psyche—the banning of flags, charges of hate and “racism,” the removal and attempted removal of Confederate monuments, the renaming of schools, vandalism of monuments and property displaying the Confederate Battle Flag, and even physical assaults, albeit rarely at present, on people who display the symbols of the South — Shotwell Publishing offers this unapologetic, unreconstructed, pro-South book with the hope that it will reach those who are left that are not afraid to question the sanity of this cultural purge and the veracity of its narrative concerning the South.
Clyde Norman Wilson is professor of history emeritus from the University of South Carolina. He is a recipient of the Bostick Prize for Contributions to South Carolina Letters and of the first annual Randolph Society Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also the M.E. Bradford distinguished chair of the Abbeville Institute.
There is nothing if called in this book. It's incredibly short, low on details, low on references. It doesn't at all delve into the factual basis for the idea that the Civil War wasn't about slavery or how it was about States' rights.
There is nothing to support the author's claim that South Carolina taking back its vote to ratify the Constitution was legal. Despite the author's belief, they couldn't simply say "I don't want to do this anymore."
This book also expressly ignores statements made by Confederate leaders that the war was in fact about slavery.
I would rather have thrown $3 in the train than paid for this
Mr. Wilson has captured the real history and truth of War for Southern Independence...This era in American history is why we are the mess that we are in presenting. Allowing this fraud POTUS to take us down the road to certain disaster and ultimately enslavement to Big Brother. God forbid the Corrupt Hillary is elected. Mr. Wilson s book should be mandatory reading in all Christen homes ,especially for our children.......
If you're interested in hearing the other side of the story, this book is for you. It answered a lot of questions I've always wondered about and is a quick read as well.
awesome book. i have read of these truths Dr. Wilson has so perfectly arranged and stated .
i really enjoyed this book, it isn't often someone comes along and has the audacity to lay out the pure facts of the Civil War. Dr Wilson arranges the facts and draws in various aspects of Southern life then and now which help the reader to understand how events unfolded leading to the Civil War. He brings the great injustice of power and greed to the forefront for all to see. love this book.
This should be required reading for every American. The illegality of Lincoln’s war comes as a surprise to those who find the courage to actually research “The War of Northern Aggression”. For opening oneself to the truth is somewhat frightening after a lifetime of fierce indoctrination. This book is a great beginning for those who want to know the facts so that they may form their own opinions. Kudos to the author for his excellent writing and thorough research.
Dr. Wilson is an excellent historian and scholar and in this short collection of essays we can get a peek inside the thinking that gave the title to this book.
If you're only interested in furthering the myths you were taught in school, ignore this book. But if you're truly interested in uncovering the real story, not what the "conventional" historians tell you, read it!
At only 26 pages, this little book packs a huge wallop! A collection of four essays by a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History, this book gives a thumbnail sketch of the truth of the clashing cultures between the North and the South. This is a must read for anyone who truly wants to know the truth about Dixie, and not just the lies perpetrated by Academia, Hollywood, and the media.
One does not have to lie, fantasize, fabricated, nor confabulate to be accused of disloyalty or rabble-rousing; one may simply tell the truth. In fact, truth will often be much more effective.
A lot of information that I heard over the years but, this book ties it together. A lot of new information too. I suggest reading or rereading our constitution before, so it will be fresh on your mind.
Great essays! I knew a few things but learned a lot more. The only complaint I have is I want to learn more. Great little book that gets you to think for yourself and not be spooned fed.
Enough clear, forceful argumentation to make "mainstream" American historians uncomfortable. Although I don't agree with everything Wilson says, his main points strike me as unassailable, and the whole thing is set forth with elegance and sparkle---a pleasure to read.
