This volume elaborated on why Nakoshi did what he did in the previous volume. Thinking that the way to make the sand girl human and be able to feel things again is to enter and wreck her delusions. But nothing happened no matter how much he thrust, the sand girl is only consuming his body. Until he found out the real entrance to her pain; the one she's been hiding all along and finally broke it. Life started coming out of the sand girl.

They are one and the same, as if I haven't told you a couple of times already. Thinking that if he freed the girl, his robot hand will dissolve too. But as expected, he acquired yet again another odd limb—the girl's sandy leg.

Hideo Yamamoto gave us a glimpse of Nakoshi and the sand girl's similarities. They are both a mess of symbols. (I forgot to mention that in the previous volume, they confirmed that the sand is actually a tiny heap of symbols filling the girl's body.) Nakoshi played with a lot of girls in his past, like her, he's lost and only following a patterned life leading to who knows where. Exactly like the sand girl from the start of her arc. Which will lead us to his current self and why he's there in the middle of two classing classes unable to cross one. He knows he couldn't go back because he's not himself anymore... and it's not easy to give away everything and start on the other side. He's still figuring things out. He's yet to be consumed by his overwhelming pain. He's yet to discover his true self.

This might actually have been the scariest thing I have ever read in my life. And really satisfying, not delicious because it's so yucky but perfectly done. If you crave a really good scare, you need to check this one out. Serious to heavens. My hand was shaking, and my head was aching trying to absorb everything. This is going to be freakier, and I might vomit along the process. I'm going to continue this tonight or I'll go crazy. I need the quiet of the night to hear myself think.

Immaculate was the concept. It wasn't flawless, but it was compelling enough to keep me reading to find out what was going on in these people's lives behind the scenes. I was constantly trying to think ahead and figure out what their homunculus meant. I liked how they incorporated the homunculus' interpretation into the lives of various other characters.

I do understand some things but my brain is not really capable of understanding all this things.

he reason he's transforming slowly each body part to people he's helped is because of the psychology term called Transference. It refers to a therapeutic setting, where a person in therapy may apply certain feelings or emotions toward the therapist.

Nakoshi is so egosentric, he had a lot of money, an expensive car, went to expensive hotels and collected pictures of the womans he slpet wit as trophys, he had his head soo up his ass that he thought his cum was something precious or something. How narcissistic can you be.

Apparently, semen is his natural antidepressant...

I don’t get it? The last two volumes genuinely haven’t made any kind of sense. The first 4 volumes were fantastic and then it just sort of dropped off and became this acid-trippy shock fest with no direction. Where’s this supposed to be leading?

Four and a half stars. I'm reviewing volumes 5 and 6.

I seek works of art that deal with situations, themes and characters that aren't comfortable to speak openly about, at least in polite society. I admire authors that open up and let everything out, and if what comes out of the gaping hole is dark even better, given that I can't identify with anything else. The author of this series is brave enough to even make me uncomfortable; I must have softened up after all that time consuming gore. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, knowing the world we live in.

We left our psychological investigator driving back into the city, having turned into a savant as a result of a punk guy drilling a hole into his skull. Our attention moves to the high school girl, now at home; as a reminder, the girl suffers from a homunculus that shows her as a construct made out of sand, from which occasionally a pathetic, yearning figure peeks out to mouth desires that she would never say out loud. Her mother is a complete cunt who has snuffed the life out of her daughter by forcing her to live by ridiculously strict standards. However, the interaction with our protagonist, that had broken the pattern enough, makes the girl react forcefully, unlike during all her life up to that point. Then she hides in the bathroom and performs the usual ritual that allows her to cope with her asphyxiating, miserable life: she cuts herself. Pretty standard stuff. Her left ankle is a mess of scars and neglected wounds. The author runs a parallel between the girl admiring the flowing blood from her new wound, and the protagonist, who is sitting in his car parked in the usual secluded spot. He proceeds to masturbate. We see the girl playing with her blood. She smears it all over her tongue, tastes it, drinks it. Meanwhile, the protagonist comes all over his palm, and proceeds to slurp his own cum as if he had done it a thousand times. We are treated with parallel panels of two people consuming their own bodily fluids. I was fine with the girl drinking her own blood; kind of hot, actually. But the protagonist recycling his spunk made me feel nauseous. I don't have a rational justification for why one kind of made me horny and the other revolted me. But one of them was a high school girl playing with bodily fluids, so I suppose that's enough.

Around that time the protagonist realizes that the girl forgot her cellphone in his car. The guy proceeds to spy on everything it contains. Some of the texts, written for herself, open up about her dreams, about how dead she feels, about hoping to meet some knight in shining armor that would make her feel something. The dates tell us that this story is set in 2004, although the drawings suggest early nineties for me; maybe it reminded me of half forgotten stuff I read back then. When the protagonist is contemplating breaking the phone and just be done with that girl, she calls and demands to get it back. The protagonist agrees to park in front of her house and just hand the phone over.

We cut back to the girl for more evidence of how miserable she is. Her mother has found the panties she intended to sell to unseen horny men. Presumably, before the interaction with our protagonist broke the pattern in her life, she used to be far more careful. Her mother freaks out like the freak she is and yells at her saying that nobody decent has sexy underwear, that she shouldn't think of dirty things, that her own daughter won't do anything of the kind. At night, the girl waits in the balcony for the car belonging to the weirdo who has her phone. We don't need words to know that this girl who had never had the opportunity to recognize her own voice is open for a new disruption in her life, maybe one that would send her far away from this nuthouse. When the protagonist parks in front of her house, he gazes at the sandy, emotionless girl looking down at him. He seems to fear her. She proceeds to jump from her balcony, injuring herself somewhat; just days ago, her pattern wouldn't have allowed her to do something as impulsive and reckless. The protagonist, nervous, hands out the phone for her to take it and never see each other again, but she walks to the passenger side of the car and stands there silently. In a fantastic image we see the homunculus form of the girl turned into a turbulent cloud of sand, and in its middle a distorted face that silently begs to be let in. The protagonist drives her to the city.

Significant spoilers from now on. I thought of putting them because I was surprised by what ended up happening, and I want to protect those kinds of emotional responses when a story can produce them. But if you are reading this you are either really bored or you want to know what happens in this story. In any case, you are warned.

I don't recall exactly how things escalated from there. The girl wants an explanation for the guys' shady behavior, and he, creeped out by her hostile homunculus that threatens to consume whoever she comes in conctact with, wants her gone from his life. She pokes him further bringing up that he's homeless. He proceeds to get handsy with her as if to teach her a lesson, but her lack of emotion disturbs him. He opens up about having had deflowered plenty of girls, so another one wouldn't mean anything to him. At this point he half wants to hate-fuck her, half wants to fuck her homunculus away through making her feel something. He decides to drive her back home, but instead of letting her go, he intends to fuck her right in front of her house, where her mother could wake up and catch them. As he fondles her genitals she complains in a detached way. Going further, he drives the point to her that she should, or a normal girl would, feel extreme terror and disgust. Wake up, girl, you are about to get raped by a homeless man with a hole in his skull. As she begins to sweat and her expression cracks a little, he proceeds to rape her very emphatically. She's holding back still, trapped inside her emotionless persona. However, the protagonist realizes that the girl is still hiding behind the only thing holding a form in her homunculus persona: the ankle warmer hiding the mess of cuts in her left ankle. The protagonist rips it out. The girl, horrified and in pain, yells for him to not look at the unforgivable ugliness of her real self, but he proceeds to lick and suck the blood from her still open wound. She gets genuinely horny or touched or whatever. Meanwhile, the family dog has alerted the mother that some nasty stuff is going on right in front of their lawn. The mother wanders right up to the fence, where she gets a clear look of her daughter getting fucked by a homeless man in a shitty car. Instead of cowering and shrinking into whatever her mother needs her to be, the girl hits the window closest to her mother with her wounded and scarred foot, splattering blood all over the glass. The mother, clearly psychotic, mumbles about having caught some neighbors fucking, and how shameless they are. She turns around and gets back home. The protagonist comments on the girl having dirtied his window, but the girl, smiling, looks at the drawing made in blood hanging against the night sky, and calls it beautiful.

Shortly after, the protagonist drove away from the girl, who was now free of her homunculus form, which the protagonist's own homunculus had absorbed. Successful therapy through rape. I'd say I'm surprised, but I don't hold a very high opinion of the practitioners of what seems to me a mostly fraudulent profession, so I wouldn't put it pass many of them to abuse their patients. Sorry, guys, but you charge way too much to listen to someone ramble on about their shitty lives, and they barely get the benefits from having been listened to. To be fair, though, the protagonist of this story is operating without a license.

Having gotten laid has cleared the protagonist's mind a bit. He drives back to his preferred dock, he sort of falls/dives into the waters, he floats for a bit enjoying the sensory stimuli, and still soaked he decides to drive back to his old workplace. We learn that he was a financial broker of sorts. He stands in front of his work desk. The front frame of his monitors are covered in photos of the many young girls he had seduced, fucked and thrown away. Sort of like Patrick Bateman, but with fewer Huey Lewis and the News related activities (yes, link to that scene). We are treated to a montage of how awesome he was at his job, of how he spent his breaks masturbating inside his car in the garage, or in the office bathroom, and then he gobbled up his cum. When he comes back from his flashback, he leaves his letter of resignation on the desk, and then masturbates and comes all over it.

I don't know, man.

He visits the homeless community he started the story hanging out close to. They are wary of him, considering him a tourist with a foot in both worlds. The author goes on about how the world keeps creating new skyscrapers and filling every space of calm with businesses and stuff to consume, and that people aren't valued anymore. The protagonist, asked again about what he used to do in his "previous life", makes up that he worked in insurance determining how much people's lives were worth. That continues to how terrible putting a numeric worth on people's lives is, how dehumanizing the modern world has become, etc. Quite on the nose, but it was well done. The protagonist ends up lying on the grass, calmly staring at a blue sky free of buildings.

I am loving this story. It doesn't have a particular destination in mind, and the protagonist even comments on it at times, but what it is doing, whatever it can be called, it is doing it proficiently. I don't know what else to say about it.

This volume was definitely eventful, most of it was very crude and graphic with lots of blood and non-consensual sex but I'll try and forget about that so I'll still have appetite for lunch.

The main character is definitely evolving, there is still a lot I don't understand about his 'gift' and his reasoning, but I've been told everything will make sense in the end. In addition, since he's a compulsive liar I never know how much of what he says is true, which only adds onto my puzzlement.

Hoping that my advisors have been truthful I will continue reading, even though up to this moment Nakoshi is purely erratic and confusing (+ disgusting but I said I'd overlook that).

so after the disgusting scene i wanted to drop it, i don’t understand how it had anything to do with the plot. the author could have achieved the same growth in the story without the unnecessary r-pe scene. i really like the philosophy in this manga but this ruined it. otherwise it’s an amazing story with good art

The "sand chameleon" case has completely been solved, after three volumes of so many weird pictures and scenarios...

description

Most of the work has been done in the previous volume. Here we just see the last bit of that episode inside the car- a night of puzzlement and utter weirdness...

Disturbing and gross...

Dark and provocative...

This might be a little late, but the artwork delivers the darkness within pretty good, also realistic in other respects too... although sometimes some facial expressions I've found to be misdrawn...

I enjoyed this volume more than any other of the previous ones, mostly because it poses so many great questions and mysteries, by giving flashbacks into the past of our protagonist. He never .was normal before, not capable of being attributed the word "sane" either I think, but not bordering on the psychopath; I would say "disturbing"...

He couldn't feel a thing then, and now after getting the ability to look "into" a human being and helping them out of their deformity, it looks like he's getting part those deformities transferred to him...

Now isn't that heroic?

I can't say how he is now, or what happened to him so that now he is between "here" and "there", why he can't go back or move forward...

Next volume looks promising now, will get to know more about Mr. Nakoshi, or be shrouded in more mysteries!

Only the Japanese would write a story like this.

This middle-aged business man hones his sixth sense by opening a hole in his skull and can see people's insecurities made manifest. As part of his wealthy patron's experiments, he observes a teenaged girl who is essentially selling her body in what is apparently a very real business model over in Japan where they sell clothes, underwear, and poses for people through a one-way mirror.

He decides that, in order to fix this girl, he has to eat his cum and then rape her in front of her parents' house and suck the blood from her self-harm scars. Seriously. That's the story in Volume 5 and 6. I am not joking.

Lock Hideo Yamamoto up fr. Something's not right with this guy. I am dropping this series here.

The last two volumes are a huge letdown compared to the rest of the story. The symbols are becoming more obscure and the plot is essentially MIA. The imagery is shocking, but the shock is only momentary.

L'homunculus di Yukari prende le forme delle ragazze che Susumu si è legato o andato a letto.
Susumu però si accorge del punto debole dell'homunculus, ovvero la caviglia di Yukari e lo morde così da sconfiggerlo.
Yukari torna così senza in sé.

i really liked this series up until volume 6 and 5. I feel like a lot of the non-consensual sex could have been portrayed in a different way that would highlight the girl's trauma more than the attacker's "character arc", if you can call it that. I feel like this topic should have been dealt with more care. But idk- maybe it will be dealt with more care later in the series and the attacker will be like "holy moly that was NOT ok of me to do"- otherwise, it will just seem like this series is using rape as a flashy and provocative way to get its message across when there are other ways to do so.

Oke.
