Another book pointing out the importance of looking after top soil/permaculture. We don't have much more future on this planet if we don't. Reading through my partner's library.
"Planet Heal Thyself, The Revolution of Regeneration in Body, Mind, and Planet" by author Jordan Rubin (The Maker's Diet author) is a 208 page paperback book published by Destiny Image. It features a photo of New York Times Bestselling author and author of this book, Jordan Rubin leaning on a shovel in front of crates of freshly grown vegetables. This book is classified as a "Naturopathy, Healing, Alternative Therapies" book and states on the back cover "The health and well-being of you, your family, and our planet rest on your shoulders and the daily decisions you make." This book holds nothing back.
Author Rubin begins his book with his own story of health struggles. When he was nineteen Rubin was diagnosed with Crone’s disease. His father contacted Bud Keith, a nutritionist. Keith showed them to a plan of Neuropathic healing, using Biblical principles. After being on the program for six weeks Rubin's body became totally regenerated. This changed his life, and he began studying the effects we have on the environment, alternative health therapies, sustainable agriculture, food production, economic prosperity, and abundance.
I was intrigued throughout the book with all of the information. The author has a real passion for God, helping people get healthy, and taking care of this Earth we were entrusted to do just that. He provides so much various information in his thought provoking, inspiring book. The chapter on the eight common allergens to avoid when eating was very eye opening. As were the ones on Organic food, nutritional values, and ways to stop top soil erosion. There is just so much so much to learn here.
The author has a nice writing style. His ideas are well thought and organized. The book flowed well and did not seem to jump around. This will be a book that I will refer to in the future. It is one to discuss in a study group. This is a book that stays with you after you have read it.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Naturopathy, healing themselves and the Earth, or even having a small farm or sustainable garden. Anyone interested in health or having a healthy Earth would appreciate this book. I rated it a 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest review.
This book is a wealth of information to help you eat better, feel better and help your family to make wise decisions when it comes to food. It can be confusing trying to figure out what is good for our bodies . I liked when the author said," You can never go wrong eating foods that God created in a form that is healthy for the body." While reading through this book I realized I really didn't know what "extra" stuff was being added to my food that I bought at the store.
It is interesting to note that the author has a tremendous knowledge about nutrients, vitamins and other sources that we need. The world has made it so difficult to decider between "good food and bad food." The smartest thing we can do is watch what we eat, make it natural and leave out all the extra stuff that is not healthy for us. How do we do this? We educate ourselves by reading an informative book like this for starters.
Many of us have food allergies and it can sometimes be a struggle to find something to eat. It may not be the actual food we are allergic to, but the added ingredients that are making us sick. One of the topics he touched on was eggs. I was interested in this because we have our own laying hens. We know exactly what they are being fed and I feel comfortable knowing they are farm fresh right from our own hens. I will have to go back through this book more slowly and really get the full benefits of a very in depth study of foods , water and plants including herbs that are beneficial to us.
I love farmers markets where there is an abundance of farm fresh everything. The fruits and vegetables are lush and you can smell the freshness bursting through. The author points out that this is a great opportunity to support local farmers while getting healthy foods. Thank you for writing a book that is valuable to everyone who wants to have a healthy body and a healthy planet.

Jordan Rubin was 19 years old , had finished his first year of college and was home in Southern Florida. Without warning he got very sick, losing 20 pounds in 6 days. He was eventually diagnosed with a very severe case of Crohn's disease. His illness quickly progressed to the point the doctors told his parents his only option was to go to New York City and have surgery to remove his large intestine and part of his small intestine. His father was a natualpathic doctor and found a nutritionist in San Diego who had helped people like Jordan. The nutritionist offered a diet and health plan found within the Bible. After just a few months his body had regenerated itself. He later started a health and nutrition company and eventually moved his family to a thousand acre farm in Missouri. Rubin also authored “The Makers Diet”. In this book, Rubin teaches us the importance of taking care of the soil where our food is grown. He covers the reason not to till up the soil, rotating crops and the importance of adding compost. He explains what organic and artisan really mean as well as what the difference in the labeling of eggs. He points out the benefits of different types of fruit and vegetables and their coloring. He also talks about the benefits of herbs, spice, nuts and legumes. Rubin writes about symptoms of gluten sensitivity and food allergies.
This is an extremely helpful book for those wanting to eat healthier and for those who want to grow what they eat. Having grown up on a farm, the importance of crop rotation and caring for the soil was not new to me. However, I found the chapters on the benefits of different types of foods and how they help your body very informative. A lot of the things he wrote about in this book, I had not given any thought to in the past. This is a book that I will be re-reading and referencing in the future.

Rubin is concerned about a sustainable earth and our healthy eating. He shares his own story of being diagnosed with severe Crohn's disease. Facing a radical surgery, he turned to diet and recovered. That inspired the passion he shares in this book.
He explains why the planet needs to be healed and what he is doing on his organic farm in Missouri. He believes our bodies mirror the degeneration happening all over the planet. He wants to see that degeneration reversed, both in our bodies and on the planet.
Rubin promotes a healthy eating plan. He writes about sprouts, organic foods, composting, food allergies, and more. He warns about the impact of the use of fertilizers and pesticides, GMO foods, and gluten. He includes good information on the nutritional value of foods and the role of supplements.
I like his emphasis on permaculture, creating sustainability in this age of consumerism. He shares what is being done on his farm to prevent water run off and soil erosion. He also encourages purchasing foods in packaging that reduces the environmental impact on our planet and contributes to soil building.
That's just a part of all that Rubin has included in this book. His is a refreshing message in this era of fast foods and packaged foods. He really made me think about the foods I eat, their source, their packaging, and their effect on my body. I learned a great deal from this book, including the difference between “100% Organic” and “Organic.” That was a bit surprising.
I recommend this book to those interested in a healthier life and a healthier planet.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through The Book Club Network for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
Eye opening doesn't begin to express this book. I didn't realize the effects that we were having on the environment. Our live easy life of honey can you go down to the grocery and pick up some beef, chicken, or bread any kind will do, is over! We need to be diligent because our lives depend on it. We need to realize that what we put into our bodies is ultimately going to control us. I remember reading in one of the chapters that Organic products/ produce are more expensive and I do agree. But on the other hand think about how many times as a family you go out to eat. 1, 2, 3 times a week??? Add that up and it will probably break down to being cheaper or about the same price. I know after reading this book we will be more at home where I know exactly what is going into my family. The chapter on the GM's and GMO's was incredible. I had no idea that we as Americans were eating things (GM) that are not regulated. This is an experiment on us without our knowledge as a Dr had mentioned in one of the chapters. I feel like I failed my children that are now grown by not knowing enough about what we were consuming. We now live on 10.3 acres in the country and no longer in the city. I am planning on having a discussion with my husband about potentially trying to grow our own vegetables. Maybe even some chickens, who knows. The sky is the limit because we need to not only take care of ourselves but our future generations. Thank you so much for writing this informative book. You have changed lives for those who read it. The Revolution of Regeneration in Body, Mind, and Planet
In an effort to be ever more productive in our efforts to feed the world we have allowed technological and biological advances to damage not only the world we once knew but also sacrificed our own health and well-being along the way.
Production and profit at any cost has become the norm. Mega farms have swallowed up many smaller family farms. And in the process we have seen a decline in the nutritional quality of the food that is produced for consumption.
Each person has a choice to be part of the solution or add to the problem. As the author points out "you are what they eat," and this refers to both plant and animal based foods. The advances in farming has resulted in the destruction of much of the nutrient rich topsoil. With this poor quality soil the plants and grasses that feed not only humanity but the animals that exist side-by-side with us have become deprived.
The author Jordan Rubin takes us on his journey of recapturing his health and wellness through a drastic change in how he was living and what he has learned along the way. This is a book that after reading you'll want to share with family and friends.
Living in a farming community that has been around for generations as well as a vegetarian I found this book to be both enlightening and terrifying in seeing the damage we have wrought upon the world we have been commanded to care for.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher through TBCN/BookFun in exchange for my honest review.
I wanted to read PLANET HEAL THYSELF to see what Jordan Rubin had to say about “The Revolution of Regeneration.” His premise is that the health and well-being of ourselves, our family, and our planet rests on our shoulders and the daily decisions we make. He believes our most precious natural resource is the nutrient-rich soil used to grow our fruits, vegetables, and grains, and if this soil is depleted, the quality of our food is depleted and we are plunged into a downward spiral of degeneration. He offers ten steps to improve the health of our bodies and the planet and supports his information with documentation.
The “Power of Plants” chapter and the section on “Healing the Planet the Permaculture Way,” were particularly interesting to me. I appreciated seeing pictures of how Rubin's Heal the Planet Farm is set up, or will be set up, and what he and his team are doing to put words into action. I'm trying to figure out how his suggestions might be implemented on my little farm.

Exceptional ...on the mark about what the future will hold if we don't start taking care of Mother Earth, 'cause she will take care of us in return. Introduction to permaculture and the transformation of his farm in Missouri where he also teaches classes. Motivational. Doable even on a small scale. Even if you only do a couple of things different in the way you eat, plant, or purchase, you CAN and WILL make a difference. The food market DOES listen to it's purchasers, us, and follows the money. HaHa I did not receive this book from a book club like the first ten or so reviewers. However, I WAS fortunate enough that my herb and vitamin store, The Sunflower Shoppe in Fort Worth, gave me a copy after checkout when I remarked "No magazines today?" My independent review is separate from my high regard and admiration for all things Jordan has been able to accomplish to better this world, our health, and our spirits. More power to him!!
Planet Heal Thyself by Jordan Rubin was a wonderful book and added to the knowledge we already have about how to live a healthy lifestyle. He talks very plainly about the different ways we are harming ourselves with the type of fuel we are using to power our bodies. While eating healthy isn’t the “easy” way, it’s the best way. My husband is a certified health coach and has great respect for Mr. Rubin. This book was a wonderful addition to our collection and added another layer of knowledge to our study about how to live in a way to be the best stewards of what we were given by God.
I received this book for free from The Book Club Network and the author in exchange for my honest review. I placed my review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Goodreads, and Deeper Shopping, if available.
I am mildly interested in this subject matter. I have a friend who is very passionate about a more a natural life-style so I have learned a lot from her and learned to appreciate it. What I really like about this book was how Rubin used his own personal story throughout the book. He wasn’t just feeding (pun intended) a bunch of information but he shared his personal journey. This really is a great book for anyone interested in learning more about this subject-matter. My advice would be do one thing at a time, don’t be overwhelmed by trying it all at once. But if you are interested in making some changes in your life, for good, I highly recommend this book.

In reading this book we find that Jordan Rubin is concerned about a sustainable earth and our need of healthier eating. He shares his own story of being diagnosed with severe Crohn's disease. When he was facing a radical surgery, he was introduced to a nutritionist through his father and he turned to diet and recovered. He tells his story in this book and gives us his ideas on how he thinks there can be a "Revolution of Regeneration in body, mind and planet" I found many of his suggestions helpful and yes, some enlightening information. I wanted to read this book because some of my family members suffer with Crohn's disease. I was gifted this book by the Book Club Network for review.
