Robert Tracy, a death row inmate slated for execution, is spirited away by a top-secret government project which makes him an offer he can't work for us or we'll finish what the justice system started. With no choice, he embarks on a mission to redact a terrorist attack that has already occurred, by being sent back in time 36 hours. But all is not as it seems. Soon, a conspiracy at the highest level of government to assassinate the president and seize total power over the time travel technology threatens the second chance at life he has been given. Not knowing whom he can trust, he must fight to save himself and a woman in the past who was drawn into the battle for the very survival of the country. 36 is a unique thrill ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. 36 is the new, action adventure thriller from Dirk Patton, the best selling author of the V Plague series. Readers and critics are blown "I was hooked from the very beginning. It's rare to get so involved in a book that you are rooting for certain characters, and praying that others get the bullet they deserve." "As someone who reads roughly 16 books a month, I feel I am a pretty good judge of writing both classics and new authors....Mr. Patton is one of the best I have seen in many years.....don't miss this one and be ready for the next one in his other series." "A real page turner that has some great twists. Dirk Patton has shown he can write a Stephen King sized novel with great detail, yet still keep it fast paced and engaging. There are real layers to this story. It is not just how the main character changes the past but how much he, and his situation, evolve in the same timeframe." "36 has the most interesting and complex angle to time travel ever. Saved from his own execution, given a new identity, trained, and sent back in time 36 hours to thwart terrorist attacks, all is going well until he is sent on his latest mission. Forced to question the motives of the people who send him, he has to quickly separate the good guys from those who are trying to destabilize the country. A well written book, as are all of Dirk Patton's VPLAGUE series books." "36 is just as spellbinding as the Plague series - time travel, government conspiracy intrigue, beautiful girls, guns - what's not to like ! Loved the characters and the multiple story lines." "I didn't think Mr. Patton could give me a character I love nearly as much as John Chase, but he did!! I was hooked on '36' from page one. Robert Tracy is a relatable guy and you really feel for the situations he's thrust into throughout the book. I love the sci-fi part of it as well (being a self proclaimed nerd and proud of it!) and though there were hints at some pretty complex physics principals it was easy to understand (and even, believe..?) and engaging."

Awesome as always

I do really enjoy Dirk Patton's writing style, he holds me in with every chapter. I have read all of his Voodoo Plague books, and enjoyed every single one. This new book though, is a very interesting turn towards Sci-fi that almost seems plausible, what if we had the ability to go back and stop attacks on the US? I highly recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed his other titles and is a fan of sci-fi.

36 times the excitement

The characters are well developed. I feel bad about him not knowing about his son but I think something is going to be introduced about him and his son or the fact that he has been pardoned is going to create a discovery about Monica and her husband. Awesome book, can't wait for the next episode. I will still take the zombie genre over this, but this will be my backup choice.

After reading 14 of Patton's "Voodoo Plague" series and then having "36", a new series recommended before going any further I thought, "Great way to sell more books." Then I read reviews of "36" and they all said the same thing. So I took a chance in the new side series I guess you could call it.

Man am I glad I did.

The "36" series is arguably even better than the "Voodoo Plague" series so far. The best part of all ? Knowing the two series will intersect in the next VP book.

Patton is an excellent writer, delivering a plot with characters you can believe are real and grow attached to.

You can read this as a stand aline and still enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

I read this book and its sequel "Void" on the advice of the author in one of the Unleashed series. He said it was important to understanding how the "36" storyline intersected with the other series. Well, it was not necessary, nor even helpful. This book is not at the level of the Unleashed series. The pace is so very slow. When the main character (anti-hero) hikes through the desert, I felt like I was taking every step with him. My head swam with the technical detail of weapons. And even worse is the moment by moment turn by turn of every fight and every car accident - and every time he puts clothes on. And "Void" is even more of the same.

An interesting and entertaining novel. I like the concept of going back in time 36 hours to avert an event. But, my main focus is to get a bit of background on the Athena Project as it pertains to the V Plague series. This book is a very nice segue from the V series and will read the companion novel as well before diving back into the original series to see how the Athena Project comes to play there.

As an avid reader of time travel novels, I will definitely be adding this one to my list of favorites. The Athena Project, first mentioned in Dirk Patton's V Plague series, is explained in great detail in this book and explains a lot of things left hanging from V Plague. There is another novel in this two-part series of books and I will definitely get into that right away, especially with the semi-cliffhanger of an ending. A good and entertaining read.

Another fast-paced winner from Dirk! I grabbed it to be sure I was on point when I pick up the next V Plague Series book....but I am not going to read "The Void" as I think I should get that one nailed down as well before going back. The characters and plot were great - and for something as unreal as the premise was supposed to be - I found myself believing every word. Great Job!

Best time travel tale in forever and a day

This is such a good read. I was kind of annoyed when the author recommended a side excursion to read this at the end of V Plague book 14, but wowowowow. Incredible.

If you’re a fan of time travel, this is a must read. Wish i could read it for the first time again, and can’t wait for more. Thanks Dirk!

Excellent book

As a huge fan of the John Chase series, I picked up this book on the author's suggestion, and it is fantastic. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book this series, and then continuing forward with the John Chase books. This story is well put together, and features the skilled and no nonsense writing I have come to expect from Dirk Patton. Read it.

Mind boggling!

Wheel within wheels! A much theorized time travel possibility is expanded and an all too realistic conspiracy postulated and built around it.... Engrossing, exciting, and totally immersive!

Are there parallel universes where you made different choice or decision that changed the course of events? This was quite interesting to see how events unraveled .

Tie in!!!

I started reading this after it was suggested by the author at the end of "The Scourge". I'm already forming ideas of how this ties in and who Major Chase really is....

It is quite a refreshing angle, to read a book about terrorism, politic and science fiction, all bundle together.
But….
A “standard Terror or political” book, always make some sense. I mean you can’t argue that it may happen. But when you have a time machine involved in the plot, you find lots of holes in the story. Things that don’t add up.
There is no way that anytime in the future a time machine will be build, for the simple reason, that we never had any visit from anyone in the future. Maybe one day we will build a time machine that can take us to the future but never to the past.
That said. You need to remember that the main purpose of a fictional suspense book is to entertain. The main purpose of a book is to make you turn page after page without letting go. There is no need to try and look for a true logic in the story. As long as it make you sit down reading without being able to put it down - fine.
This book is defiantly a page turner. You can hardly put it down. I would like to give it a 5 star for that .My point is that a 5 star book need to be perfect or at least close to perfect, but because of that time machine, it sometimes becomes really ridiculous. No wander the author had a hard time to finish it properly.
If you like a fast pace book, with a science fiction twist – that book is for you.

Unexpectedly Awesome

Let me first say that I am not a fan of time travel novels, but I AM a huge fan of the author. Even still, it took me months to convince myself to give it a shot. However, I'm super glad I did because it was awesome! Several other reviewers mentioned unexpected events that were very well written, and I wholeheartedly agree. This was a very entertaining story, with no boggling science that a lay person wouldn't understand anyway (such was my fear of time travel works).
For me, I have to describe this as a "24 meets 12 Monkeys." You've got the conspiracy-action-badass of Jack Bauer's world set in a time travel situation like in 12 Monkeys. Result: unexpectedly awesome!

Ok

Enjoyed it even though bits were similar to something seen before , maybe I'm biased wanting to be gripped like I am to voodoo plague , but all said and done an enjoyable piece of escapism with plenty of conspiracy thoughts which I'm quite adept to and a fancyable protagonist , yeah I will buy the next instalment , I have to , it's good and I'm a fan of Mr Patton and I feel sure it's gonna get better ! Hopefully a dog will join the cast !

Dirk Patton does a wonderful job of making "yet another time travel story" not just interesting but engrossing. Dirk tells us to enjoy the ride, and a ride it was.

So grab the book, and follow the character as he is executed in prison to his second chance for good. It is a hell of a ride.

Oh, and if you have not read Dirk's V Plague series, you are seriously missing out. Go grab it and hang on.
