The creepy Mr. Rumor and his mysterious employer have executed a hostile takeover of New York’s hottest supernatural nightspot! Now, only John Constantine can help Papa Midnite sneak into his own club to rescue the deadly magical artifacts inside. How is Mr. Rumor’s scheming connected to the destructive magical force that’s been brewing in NYC since our series began? It’s the Hellblazer’s business to find out.
Ming Doyle was born in 1984 to an Irish-American sailor and a Chinese-Canadian librarian. Since earning her BFA from Cornell University in 2007, she has depicted the sequential exploits of zombie superheroes, demonic cheerleaders, vengeful cowboys, and dapper mutants. TANTALIZE marks her first full-length graphic novel as well as her first encounter with a were-opossum. She lives in Boston.
Papa Midnight has lost control of the magical club he's created. Now Constantine will have to help him get it back, along with Midnight's magical talismans, if he wants to save the life of his latest fling. Too bad the club is currently under the control of a notorious demon banker with connections in hell itself!
Kind of an expected set-up to everything: Someone comes to Constantine for help, but they're not totally above-board on everything, but coerce him to help by threatening someone else. Things go sideways, and Constantine is in hot water. We've seen it before. We've even seen this setting before in this series as well as others like the horrible and thankfully-defunct Klarion. The biggest glimmer of hope for this story is the connection to the larger things going on in New York's magic side that have been hinted at since issue 1. Perhaps this is just the gateway to that bigger story.
Some good dialogue and interesting visuals, but pretty much what we've come to expect from this book.
