Kiran Clark has kept his love life simple: no commitments, no relationships, no attachments of any kind. Lately, his reputation has left a lot to be desired, and his guilt is more than he is willing to admit.
Moving to a new town, Kiran vows to start fresh and let go of his old ways, but life did not prepare him for Belle Paasch.
Belle lived most of her life locked away from the world, but when she collides with Kiran, she is unprepared for what he has in store. When the shadows of Belle’s past threaten the only people she has ever cared about, she is forced to sacrifice her new life for the sake of those she loves.
Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Riann C. Miller is the author of eight contemporary romance novels. Her new release, Returning Home is available now!
Riann (pronounced Ry-an) lives in Kansas with her husband and two teenaged children. When she’s not reading, or writing, she usually enjoying a Royals game.
If you enjoy a mafia/cartel setting, with an alpha hero and lots of romance, you might want to give Locked Away a chance.
Riann C Miller is a talented author, she got me hooked on the first chapter. I thought that there was unnecessary drama on Isabelle’s side, and the repetitive idea that she saw herself as “weak”. I wanted to punch her sometimes and tell her to grow up! I know she had a protected upbringing, but that bothered me a lot. There’s als oa big turn of events around 60% of the book, some might love it, but it didn’t leave me very excited.
I loved to get to know this family. It’s a rich and big story, but a bit too long and slow paced for my taste.
I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Belle, I felt that with everything she had learnt about her life and going to live with Kate, she dealt with it the best she could. I felt so bad for her uncovering the truth and the jealousy that followed. it was a natural emotion, that she had no way of controlling it.
The attraction between her and Kiran was instantaneous and off the charts. It was amazing!
Kiran, I wanted to slap that boy upside his head on so many occasions. Damn he kept putting his foot in his mouth!! But he more than proved himself afterwards. he stepped up to the plate and i love him for that, he jumped in feet first, nobody could change his mind. His love for Belle was so true!
Read Beneath The Lies first as it helps us learn more about the characters and their backgrounds. I absolutely adore this book, i recommend everyone to read it. Riann C Miller is an amazing author and her books are phenomenal, that draw you in from word one and don't let you go!
Locked Away was an enjoyable read that I couldn't put down once I started reading it. Reading what the story was about I was excited about the story and I was not disappointed. The storyline was has sucked me in from the first chapter. Belle was a strong character that had always been locked away in her house by her father as a way to protect her. When things take the turn for the worse Belle must escape to keep safe and then she meet Kiran. The attraction between the two was instant and saw both of them try to fight it. However, they both stopped fighting and took a chance with each other. I loved reading about the two of them and see their relationship build between them. I enjoyed reading Locked Away and cant wait to read more from the author.
Storyline, friends and siblings that you love to watch interact, Kieran is awesome, dual pov really works to keep the story moving and constant. These were the things that stood out and that I loved about the book. I couldn't wait to see if Belle had a story/book after I read Beneath these Lies. I love books that keep me wanting to finish it quick, just so I can know what happened! This book did that plus! We got to hear more about Damien and seeing the relationship between he and Belle. Got to see Alex meet his sister and that was awesome and then we get introduced to a babe at the end which made this combined with the small mentions of cartel, guns and a brief kidnapping, one great story. Thanks for another great book!
I loved this book. The beginning starts off with Belle finding out who she is and it immediately grabs your attention. I found right away that you feel for Belle and what she is going through and immediately are a cheerleader of hers. I love her defiance at certain points in the story as well as her vulnerability that you see.
Kiran is a little bit of an enigma that you want to know more about.
There are some intense scenes that had my heart pounding and had so many emotions going through my head.
Then Damien, he by far is my fav and I definitely hope that he gets a book as well.
I dove right into this one, and was swept away, rather than locked away. Just couldn't put it down.
I realize there are claims it can be read as a standalone, which it can... But don't do that to yourself. You really will want to read book one, before this one to fully grasp the book. (This one is even better than book 1!)
This is full of romance, turmoil, excitement and sorrow.
I loved Kiran and Bella's story. There is still some back and forth as there was with book one, but it was not a major turn off. Gavin and Kate are also very much still a part of this book.
** I received a digital copy of this book in exchange of my honest review. **
Isabella sneaks in her dad's office and over hears that she's actually not his real daughter and Isabella life changes. Isabella is sent to live with her so called cousin Kate and Gavin and Kiran. So many secrets so many lies in her life will Isabella ever be happy? Isabella meets Kiran and sparks fly they both fall for each other but Kiran doesn't fall in love but will Isabella change that? Great story from beginning to end loved it! Drama very suspenseful! Many unanswered questions answered in this book! 4/5 stars Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Reads - ARC provided for a honest review ***
Overall it was an easy read - i enjoyed Kiran & Belle's story more than Gavin & Kate; however i still enjoyed having them as characters in this book. I would have liked a little longer of an ending though. I would have liked to know a bit more about them all a few more years down the road.
This was a good book. It started a little slow but was a great read. I hope the author continues the series. I want more of the main and secondary characters.
Ok so this book did have what I was looking for. It does go into more depth and you get to see more of why things are happening. I was drawn into this book and I could not put it down. I have to say that I am really into Belle & Gavin. I can't say too much without giving away spoilers so all I can really say is that these books just keep getting better. I can't wait to read the next one!
This is the second book in Living with Lies series and picks up where book 1 Living with Lies finished.
This book centred on Belle, Isabelle Paasch who was Damian's daughter by all accounts and purposes. Belle's life was sheltered and controlled in every one of her 21 years growing up in Mexico with Damian. He loved her with all his heart and protected her to the point she could do nothing a normal teenager and young adult should have experienced at her age, he was frightened of anyone getting to her and using her as a bargaining chip or worse against his life and to take his control and power. After having to move in with Kate her sister/cousin she met Kiran and wow, their chemistry was obvious straight away. Kieran has a heart of gold but was guarded from events in his past and did his best to keep his distance from Belle but they both just couldn't stay away from each other no matter how hard they tried to hate each other. This book took you on a roller coaster of emotions and was hard to put down once you started. Belle really surprised me with her strength and determination to keep the ones she loves safe and away from the nightmare of a life she has been brought up in. Damian was amazing and I fell in love with him the moment he made his entrance known, he is strong, controlling but more than that he is someone that would die to keep his family safe and I would Love to read more of! I have to say Damien was my absolute favourite in this book and he has definitely won my heart along with Isabelle and Kate. A definite MUST READ! Although this can be read as a standalone, to truly appreciate the characters in this book I would highly recommend you read book 1 Beneath The Lies first.
After spending the last half hour reading this book biting my nails and crying my eyes out, I'm finally able compose myself and write this review. Omg. This book took me on such an emotional roller coaster ride. My emotions were all over the place while reading. It was the perfect combination of suspense and romance, happiness and sadness, love and anger. There were so many twists and turns, and every one kept me turning pages reading late into the night only to get up early the next morning to continue reading. I fell in love with Kate, Gavin and Kiran in Beneath the Lies, book 1 in the Living With Lies series. Bella was introduced at the very end of the book, and I just knew her story was going to be one I needed to read. Boy was I right, her story was absolutely amazing. She lived a life where she was thought to be weak and needed to be sheltered, protected. But as Bella broke out of her past life she, as well as those around her discovered her strength. Kiran had sworn off women. Destined not to end up like his deadbeat father, he would never commit to a woman. Then Isabella came into his life, with her feisty ways. She broke down his walls and made him change, made him fall. But then she left him. After a turn of fate, he finally got her back and decided no matter what he will do anything to protect her. Locked Away can be read as a standalone, however I do recommend reading Beneath the Lies first. It will give you insight into everyone's back story and enhance the story. I will most definitely be looking forward to book three in this series.
Damian is the head of a Mexican Drug Cartel. He is a ruthless man but has one weakness…his daughter Belle. Damian knows this and puts measures in place in order to protect her to the point of being suffocating. He keeps her Locked Away. When Belle’s life is in danger, Damian sends her to stay with her cousin Kate in America. I loved the plot twist here but won’t say more as it will spoil the book for those who haven’t read it!
At first Belle was very reluctant to get close to Kate, but she was slowly won over. While staying there she also meets Kiran and their attraction is instant. He tries his best to push her away but Belle quickly gets under his skin and before long, Kiran is ready to put his life at risk to keep the woman he loves safe.
I can’t say enough about this book. I loved every minute of it. I was hooked by the very first chapter. The storyline was amazing; it was full of suspense, drama, plot twists. It was detailed and very well written and had me one-clicking Beneath The Lies within minutes of finishing it.
Highly recommend it to those who love their romance novels to have some mystery!
This is the second book in the Living with Lies series, but you don't have to read the first one to enjoy this one. Although, you have no idea what you are missing out on, and the first book will set the back-story and make this book all that much better.
Belle has lived a sheltered life. In fact she sees herself as weak. Her father is very controlling and when Belle learns a terrifying secret, she has to leave. Her cousin (Kate and Gavin from the first book) take her in. This is where she meets Kiran. The instant connection between Belle and Kiran is evident, but they try to fight every second of their feelings. Now they have to put aside everything they are fighting and fight for one another. Good read. I wanted to know more about Kiran's story. We got to learn about Belle, but Kiran remains a mystery. I enjoyed the read all together, and am very much looking forward to other books from Riann.
An improvement for me on 'Beneath the Lies' and I do recommend reading 'Beneath the Lies' first. Kate's 'sister' Belle finds her way to Kate when their father finds himself in trouble. Belle has been sheltered and protected by her mafia father and hasn't had much chance to live. Kiran is your typical player but is instantly drawn and is instantly protective towards her.
Danger is never far away from Belle as her father's enemies will do anything to get to him including using Belle. I was surprised that the danger and the threats took so long to arrive on their doorstep but it did give the reader an opportunity to get to know them both. While I felt connected to Belle very quickly, Kiran took some warming up to, despite meeting him previously. I wanted more from this read but it was still a good read.
There were a lot of editing mistakes and grammatical errors that it made this book hard to get through, and the ending was abrupt and the cliffhanger made no sense whatsoever.
I did like how Belle wasn't really a spoiled princess, and how pragmatic she was regarding her father and the life she grew up in.
I also liked Kiran's struggle to not become his father, after living through his mother's struggles with his father. Sadly, he doesn't recognize just how closely his treatment of women mirrors his father.
An odd little book, and I can't bring myself o care enough about the characters to continue with the series.
I really enjoyed this book, I don't tend to read too many Mafia/Cartel themed books so I wasn't sure what to expect going in! I was pleasantly surprised. Kiran is a very strong Alpha male lead character and he is an imposing figure throughout the book. Belle shows so much strength of character from the start and I was really rooting for these two from the beginning.
If you are looking for a good romance read with plenty of action this book is a definite must read but I would say to start the series from the beginning to feel as though you are getting the full effect!
This is the BEST series I have read this year! The series will not be the same without this book. I absolutely loved every bit of it. The suspense, the drama and all that happens leading up to the crux was great. Especially all the unexpected twists and turns......I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone!
This book was amazing! After reading Living with Regret I absolutely couldn't wait to read to read Kiran and Belle's story. Riann didn't disappoint. I love that her books never feel like the same old thing over and over again. Absolute perfection <3
I loved this book. I really enjoyed Belle and Kiran's story. I enjoyed the push and pull the characters have. The are attracted to each other but should stay away. Riann did a great job! I can't wait for more from her!
Such a good read! Could not wait to read Kiran's story, and it did not disappoint! It's a sweet love story layered on top of a criminal enterprise. Highly recommend!
I absolutely loved the continuation of this series with Isabelle and Kiran’s story.
Isabelle ended up in the one place she never planned to go ~ her father’s biological daughter’s home. From the moment she found out she wasn’t Damian’s real daughter, she has hated her cousin Kate. A person she’s never known, never met and never wanted to see. Unfortunately her father’s world threatens her own life and after a cross country run from the danger she ends up at the very last place she wanted to go... Kate’s front door.
Kiran was a complete manwhore who recently moved from California to Denver with his best friend, Gavin and his family. Gavin moved his business and family there to be closer to his girlfriend, Kate’s company. Kiran works for Gavin and the move made sense. Once he sees Isabelle (Belle) he knows there will be trouble brewing just because he knows who her father is and how dangerous that world is. He fights his attraction to Isabelle (with the help of Kate telling him Belle is “hands off”) but he feels horrible each and every time he’s an ass to her. The more he tries to be friends with her the stronger his attraction grows.
But they both know this will never last. It can only be temporary because of her life and how she grew up. She’s leaving once Damian shows up for her. But as the days drag on to weeks and months they find it harder to fight the mutual attraction between them and they both start to fall. Just as they decide to take that last step, everything turns to chaos leaving them both with broken hearts leaving me to wonder if they have a real chance to be together.
This is a terrific second in this series and I can’t wait to read more from this series. Riann has a way of pulling you into the story and not letting you go (which severely cuts into my sleep time. LOL). I cannot wait to read more from her.
This second book of the series is just as explosive as the first one with great results. These two also don't spend as much time in the bedroom as the others which isn't a bad thing. I do love these two as lost as they were in their time together. The past keeps Isabella on her toes and unable to settle. Meeting Kiran, well that was an unexpected cherry on top. She's hiding. Waiting impatiently for word, anything would help but as the weeks pass by she finds herself getting lost in the dreams of another life. When her past collides with her present things shift. This isn't just a love story it's so much more. There's resolution and answers to questions. There's the mending of the past and the present. There's the betrayal. There's Alex who needs a book of his own and who totally and completely broke my heart. There's so many things to love and enjoy about this read that I am glad I tried this author who although new in my world has given me a new author to enjoy.
Locked Away: Living With Lies #2 is about Kiran Clark and Isabella (Belle) Pashe. It should be read after Beneath The Lies as it is the foundation & gives more background leading into Kiran's and Belle's love saga. Absolutely love this series & its character's. This novel is rich in details and goes into more depth in the criminal enterprise element. Mafia/Mexican Drug Cartel are intricately braided in this Contemporary Romance Novel. Sweet Romance, family, friends, enemies, mystery, surprises, and jaw dropping plot twists are all elements blended together to create a scrumptious highly addictive read. I absolutely love this series and character's as they are well crafted with a alluring writing style. A absolutely fabulous series & I want more.
I've read every one of this author's books and I keep saying the same thing "I loved this book" because they are so well written. Locked Away is no different in my feeling for her work. This is book two in the Living with Lies series but you do NOT have to read Beneath The Lies, (book one) to follow this story, it can be read as a stand alone.
Belle is a girl who has been "locked away" to protect her from her father, Damian's sins. Damian, as we found out in Beneath The Lies is a Mexican Drug Cartel who has many enemies, some disguised as friends. When Belle is told to go to her sister Kate's house in America she is welcomed with open arms. However, due to many years of resentment, Belle finds it hard at first to get close to Kate. When Belle meets Kiran, Kate's husband, Gavin's business partner, there is an instant connection. Kiran, being the ultimate in Alpha men does whatever he can to protect Belle. Belle, believing she is weak finds her strength when those she loves are endangered.
This isn't just a romance book, this is a story of mystery and intrigue. There are so many exciting twists and turns. Just as you think you have it all figured out more surprises are in store for Belle and Kiran. I was worried that after reading about Kate and Gavin, I wouldn't be able to feel that connection to Belle and Kiran, what a needless worry! I quite possibly loved them as much, if not more and my love for Damian has grown even more intense. Locked Away has romance, intrigue, family bonding and so much more to offer you between its pages. You won't want to miss any of the adventures that await you in Locked Away.
I have to say I enjoyed this book a lot more than Beneath These Lies. I thought the characters were a lot more likeable and easier to relate to in this story.
I didn't expect to like either character if I'm honest, what we seen of Kiran didn't shed him in the best light in the previous book. His only redeeming quality had been his relationship with Callie. He wasn't anything like I expected him to be in his own story. Sure he was still a bit hot headed but he was so much more than that. He had fears he tried to work through and demons from his past he had to overcome to try to be the person he knew Isabelle deserved. Kiran won my heart early on and although there were times he was a jerk I still loved him.
Isabelle was another one I wasn't sure I would like, I expected this uptight b!tch but what we got was so much better than that. Isabelle was loveable from the very beginning, my heart broke for her and I felt such a strong connection with her character.
This book definitely kept me interested to say the least, I was hanging on its every word dying to hear what happened next.
