A woman alone in her mid-life finds a home in a small New Hampshire town. Divorced, remarried and then widowed, she has a lot of reckoning to do, a lot of questions to answer, a lot of riddles to solve. She finds solace in the land around her, the big mountain, the fields and woods and ponds. Through these essays, written over the span of twenty-five years for Yankee magazine, she forms a union and a strength that only the natural world can provide.
What a wonderful tribute to rural New England in all the seasons! It was refreshing to read about the positives to our winters, and I enjoyed Clark's thought-provoking essays.
Pleasant-that's the best word to describe it. Wonderful short stories by Edie Clark and her life in rural NH. I just enjoyed reading these, gives me a warm feeling and I believe she really enjoys her life so much; the simple things and mostly nature itself.
This book will make you fall in love with new England and a simpler time. By far one of the best books I read in a while. Showed you the best way to live life
