This family affair continues to be so suggestively lively and filled with drama. Natsuo and Rui question Hina’s unusual behavior lately and discover that she’s having a relationship with Shuu, a married man. At school, Rui slowly makes friends with new girl Mimi Kashiwabara, who has a reputation of being very promiscuous with boys and it looks like she wants to get close to Natsuo. Later, he nurses a sick Rui and it gets surprisingly streamy and spends a nice day out with Hina where he makes a heartfelt decision about his feelings for her. A (100%/Outstanding)
Compulsively readable. The characters are very sympathetic. Rui's quiet self-determination that partially hides a wounded heart and her general inability to interact properly with her peers. Hina's preoccupation with filling her role of teacher as an adult, despite being a whimsical drunkard who interacts with others like a teenager. Natsuo, the protagonist, a shy wannabe novelist that isn't taken seriously often, although he proves himself to be a reliable guy. I like that they are more or less aware of their shortcomings and try to move ahead in life and deal with others in constructive ways (in contrast with the most recent manga I read with a similar setting, which was Onani Master Kurosawa).
This volume introduces a new character. The way she's talked about and dealt with shows curious sides about Japanese society that I've seen in other stories of theirs. We mostly know about this new classmate of Rui's from the vicious gossip: other girls warn Rui against interacting with her, because she's a slut. They claim that she's done it with dozens, that she was involved in orgies. The girls consider her a disgrace. Rui .
I was most surprised by the part about the . I don't recall ever having seen in this genre such an interesting and uncomfortably erotic development.
The second volume, and while a bit better than the first one, I am still not enjoying this series. It also didn't help we have a new girl in town, Momo, and I just didn't like her. Not because she was, as everyone was calling her, someone who just went with all the boys, but because of her attitude. She knows that Rui likes Natsuo, and just decided she would go for him. That is not how friends work. You don't just take your friend's crush. I also found her wayyyy to clingy. I am at least glad that Hina and Natsuo had a chance to talk and discuss things. We also see Hina with her boyfriend (and all the trouble that comes with that). The art is still pretty good. But I won't be continuing this series.
This is pure trope-tastic melodrama fuel. Characters do things that they would never do in real life and things are dialed up to 11. Even with all that, I went into this know what to expect and for what this is I am enjoying it.
Comenzamos a conocer nuevos personajes, Rui es un personaje algo particular y un poco callada y fue interesante pero impactante en la manera en la que conocio al protagonista. espero que la historia se ponga cada vez mejor.
I mean, there are funny bits throughout but it is not what I would consider a comedy. The art is very good and the characters are interesting and distinct, faces expressive. But still, so serious.
I find the melodrama interesting and while it is not umm... realistic or nuanced, it does leave me wanting to keep going. I know what is going on because this one is pretty exactly as it is in the Anime but I was still kept in page-turning excitement.
For a series that wants to titillate as much as it does, the sad parts are so genuinely sad. The backstory we get for Natsuo and Momo's past both being particularly heartbreaking. I wonder if that is the influence of a female mangaka?
This volume added someone who is probably going to be another main character. I'm looking forward to see where this character's plot ends up going. It was a continuation of the hook at the end of the end of the first volume. Luckily, things are moving pretty fast and nothing really drags in this series. I'm still having a good time reading the trainwreck with it's wild quotes and situations.
