Bitten Point #4

Gator's Challenge

Rate this book
Once upon a time, a girl loved a boy but married another man. What a mistake, especially since that man has been using her as part of his sick plot to experiment on shifters. And he's got a plan to use their sons. Over my dead body. But Melanie might need help keeping her boys safe. Wes is keeping secrets, lots of them, but he doesn't have a choice. The people he cares about are in danger, and he'll do anything to protect them, but that struggle intensifies when the girl he never stopped loving is drawn into danger. Can this gator meet the challenge of freeing himself from the blackmailing grip of Bittech but also find a way to be with Melanie, too? Contains mature themes.

~ New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

The final countdown!

The following ratings are out of 5:

Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😊
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

Wes and Melanie - Melanie has twins with her husband Andrew who works for BitTech, the company that has been performing genetic experiments on the local shifter population of Bitten Point. Andrew claimed to not know anything about the disappearances, murders and monsters that have been seen in the bayou. Wes also worked for BitTech, though he always suspected that there were sinister things going on at the company. He was working with some of the local guys, like Constantine, Daryl and Caleb to try to bring those things to light.

Melanie and Caleb had dated back in high school, but he broke her heart when he broke up with her and later married Andrew. Melanie grew up as the good girl and she fell in love with the bad boy from a family known for living outside the law, but when he broke her heart, she decided to marry a good man to make her feel safe and secure. Little did she know, that she was much less safe and secure with Andrew than she ever expected.

Like the rest of this series, this book was done in solo narration by Chandra Skyye. She is a good reader and shows a lot of emotion through her voice, which I liked, though I didn’t like the voice she used for Melanie. The story in this one was good and I liked that Andrew finally showed his true colors in this one. The readers have known from the beginning that he was a shady character, and he certainly wasn’t a good husband to Melanie even before he came out and hit her and kidnapped her and her children.

In the final instalment of the Bitten point series, Melanie has to save her twin sons from the clutches of her estranged husband Andrew. Her childhood ex Wes, a gator shifter who works for her husband, proves to be an helpful ally. In the end, the world of the shifters will never be the same again and Melanie and Wes have to find their way into this new world.

Pro's:
+ As an ending of the series, this is one epic conclusion. Even though you can feel this is not the ending of the overreaching story, all the Bitten point characters get a satisfying conclusion.
+ Melanie might be the best written character in the whole series. She is very protective of her sons, but you can really get a sense of her badass-ness. She is a Panther shifter and you can really see some panther characteristics in her human personality as well, to me that is the perfect way of writing stories about shifters.
+ The teenage romance gone adult storyline of this novel is actually quite well done. It is never too cute or too drama-ish.

Con's:
- The ending of this book is the exact beginning of the Dragon point series. As this is the ending of a series, in my point of view, there should not be anything like the beginning of another series.

I can definitely recommend this book, especially if you need to know how the story ends ( like me). Only thing that really annoyed me was the ending, as stated in the con's section. I like how the characters from the Kodiak point series make a little appearance, even though that is a series I still need to read.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

Gator’s Challenge is the fourth and what appears to be the final book in the Bitten Point series. At minimum, it wraps up the series arc up until this point. So far, we know there is something going on a Bittech and there are weird creatures running a muck in Bitten Point. The issue is that we don’t know who all is involved and exactly what these weird “dinosaur” like creatures. There are also people who keep turning up missing.

Melanie is our heroine in this story. She is a panther and has two children (twin boys). She is married to Andrew, works at Bittech. He has never been much of a husband. Oh, he plays one fairly well when out in public, but behind closed doors, he doesn’t do anything you would call “husbandly”. Melanie settled for Andrew after Wes left her. Wes and Melanie were high school sweethearts, but Wes, being a Mercer, didn’t want to bring Melanie down with his name. Mercer’s are not well liked in Bitten Point.

Wes is the head of security at Bittech. He’s also who the book is titled after, since he is the gator of the book. Wes thought he was doing Melanie a favor by keeping her away from him and his family. He thought she deserved better than him. So instead, she basically became a trophy wife to Andrew, which wasn’t a step up in my opinion. Wes does do some things he isn’t proud of throughout the course of this series, but let’s just say he has reasons. He hasn’t gone down the path of most of the Mercer family. We do also get to meet other people in the Mercer family and I say, judging by Uncle Parker, I don’t really like the Mercer family either.

This was a great wrap up to this series. I loved finally seeing the mystery of Bitten Point come to a nice close, though Eve Langlais left a door open to either continue the series or possibly create another spinoff (like she did with this one from Kodiak Point). This book had a nice romance with high school sweethearts who get a second chance at love, but boy they have to work for it. It also has some action in it. Lastly, you can’t have an Eve Langlais book without humor. That is her trademark. There is plenty of humor in this book, though I think this one is the lightest of the series.

Something dropped from above the door onto the nurse, something lunged at her from the floor, and amidst the screaming—lots of it comparing the twins to satanic imps escaped from hell—Melanie laughed.
“There’s my good boys. Come see Mama.”

Eve Langlais' books are my guilty pleasure. They're tropey, a little predictable (sometimes a lot), and sometimes just ridiculous. But, they're also legitimately funny, the characters are interesting, and there's just something about them that makes me enjoy reading them. I know they're the literary equivalent of junk food, but I just can't stop, they're just so consistently entertaining.

I feel guilty sometimes for only rating them 4 stars, but then I look at 5 star books, and they're not really at that level, but rating them any lower feels like an insult.

Basically, all of that to say, this books was the culmination of a really entertaining series, and while the heroes self loathing was a little off putting at the beginning, he really does start to redeem himself as the story progresses. Melanie was also a little irritating, but ultimately, they're a couple of flawed people who've made their share of mistakes but really do deserve each other, and are doing the best they can for the kids.

I don't know if I'd re-read it, but I will almost certainly read the spinoff series, and most likely enjoy them as well.

I....This.....You.....YES! I loved this! I loved the relationship. I was a little on the iffy side on how it was going to work and wasn't sure if I was going to like it but it was great! I loved Ace in Python's Embrace (I always have a thing for the sexy, different looking/scarred background guy) so you can understand why I loved this one! I can't wait until his comes out, it's going to open up a great new storyline for this series. The humor and sarcasm was still there-which to be honest is my favorite and even Kodiak Point characters made an appearance! Boris watching the Caribou run with a guy on his rack was a great image for me. Boris was my favorite in the Kodiak series, so imagine my happiness when Ace AND Boris were in this (here's a hint: it couldn't be contained!). I wouldn't say this one was a favorite of mine, but it was freaking hilarious and I loved it.

More like 2.5 stars I think...
This series hasn't wowed me, its not horrible at all and there are glimpses of the greatness that is Eve Langlais but this series falls a bit short for me. It was all just predictable and as I have said before, it has the same flavour as a couple of her other series, which in my opinion were written better, just insert different shifters.
I couldn't really connect with the main characters and so found it hard to want to finish it. The ending felt a bit rushed and there was a sneak peek at the follow-on series but in all honesty I don't have enough interest in following anymore of these characters.
Overall and ok read.

I enjoyed this! I'm glad Wes wasn't the traitor we thought at the start of the book and I knew Ace had to be connected to the gang! I sense a spin off series from this to deal with the consequences from the end of the book and Ace seems to be in line for a story of his own. Hopefully, he'll get a HEA and be able to take control of his shifting again.

I do love a sexy bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, or swamp in this case. My one disappointment was not getting to see the bestie in this one for Melanie to lean on for support. Turns out she didn't really need her, but at least a little of that dynamic would have been cool. As it was, I appreciated the familial bonds in this book. Both hero and heroine had strong familial bonds that directed their actions. This is a piece not often utilized these days. I appreciate how the author did so for this story and the series overall. Family is often glossed over as important but not really shown much in detail. This story is pretty much all about family ties, good and bad. I try to avoid spoilers in my review so will leave it at that.

I have been drawn to Wes since his first appearance in the series. I was not disappointed once finally getting to his HEA. It was tense and messy, but in the end he did win Melanie for his own. It was a satisfying end. Heck, the entire book was satisfying. As usual, Chandra Skyye did a fantastic job with the narration. Every character down to the smallest parts had their own voice. I admire the ability of narrators to achieve this feat. I definitely won't shy away from any book I may see Chandra's name on in the future. As much as I enjoyed this story, I am not quite willing to round up to 5 stars. It was not perfect, but I do give it a solid 4.5. Character development is good, action is exciting, steamy scenes are just to my liking on the steam meter. So why drop the half star? It is still ultimately a cookie cutter romance novel. It suffers the same predictability they all seem to have. I enjoy it, but I can't read too much back to back, or I get bored and overly critical. I think Eve Langlais writes it better than most, but it still only has so much originality. In the end there's really nothing new here, but it's what I was in the mood for and did not disappoint what I have come to expect from the author. This is one of her better series, in my opinion. It has strong re-read factor, draws me into the world, leaves me with a smile on my face. Nice for a quick HEA fix to get me out of my own head for a bit.

Story 4,6/5
Hörbuchfassung 5,0/5
Charaktere 5,0/5
Gesamt 5,0/5

Gator's Challenge is the last in the Bitten Point series and it's a second chance romance.

There is someone out there experimenting on shifters and not in a good way, turning them into monsters. Melanie, can't believe her husband is involved in what is going on and she has decided she is through. Only thing is her husband has gotten a bit stronger than he use to be and he has taken their two kid. She finds out he wants to experiment on his own kids, now she is mad and her panther wants out but he has done something to her and your cat can't come out.

The one person she didn't want to see might be the only one that can help her and her twins. Wes is a part of all this but it's because he has to not because he wants too. He has a reason for being there but Melanie doesn't care. Wes is the one guy who she was still in love with but he broke her heart when he broke up with her without no explanation.

This is a strange situation for two people who still have feelings for each other to come together but it works. One of Wes's relatives is really crazy and has plans to use both of them to get some little ones he can experiment on, see crazy!

I have been curious about Wes, so it was nice to see why he acts the way he does. He is a Gator shifter and doesn't think he is good enough for Melanie but he can't get her out of his system. Melanie is a feisty character especially when someone is trying to do things to her babies. Don't get in between a mother and her kids. :)

I love that how towards the end it incorporates some of the characters from Kodiak Point. It was overall a fun sexy read and we can finally figure out who the baddies are and what they are doing. Though it kind of ends like there could be more but I haven't seen any indication.

This book was okay we knew the characters as Wes the gator 🐊 shifter worked security for the shifter research facility and in the past books he’s been helping where he could to find missing people and try to unravel the mysteries. We met Mel before too because she took care of the single mom’s son in book 1 when she always had to work. Her husband was a ceo at the medical facility.

She later finds out her husband was not the father of her twins her high school sweetheart Wes who broke her heart was. Well they end up back together as her husband sent the kids and her to their new facility. Wes was there for his brother who was turned into a monster by then & his little sister who their uncle also has.

Well I’m glad I read the Kodiak books set in Alaska because they were friends in the war with the guy from book 1 and they helped get people out of the facility before it blew up…

Then these lovebirds live happily ever after and then I realized the Dragon shifter books I listened to on audible started with Wes’s little brother that was turned into a monster, yet he’s not a monster he’s a Dragon! He was injected with the missing Golden dragons blood! This book ends with his mate finding him the silver dragon princess!

Disappointing Climax to Series

This story was not what I wanted to end the series on. Wes was a great character, and you really feel for him and his situation. Melanie was a let down for me. I see all these reviews talking about what a bad ass she is but I didn’t see it in the book. Granted she was tough and totally took care of her children. I was not happy with how the author basically isolated and tied down Wes/Melanie’s abilities to really do anything about the situation.

The way the author separated Wes and Melanie from the rest of the Bitten Point gang was so disappointing as we didn’t get the whole team come together and face the challenge the author has been setting up from beginning. The situation with Wes and Melanie was so hopeless and depressing that it almost drug the book down and I almost didn’t finish it. I was determined to see how the story ended though. There are some serious scenes that I had issues with, but I can’t write about it without spoiling it.

The narrator is great, and I love that the voices have been consistent throughout the series.

Snap, Crackle and Pop the bones

After a long time waiting, we finally get to see the history behind Wes and Melanie.
Her husband Andrew kidnaps her twin boys and having no choice, she allows herself to be taken by Parker to the new Bittech institution where her son's are held along with lots of shifter experiments.
She knows Wes works for Andrew but for a out he's been coerced as Parker has his brother and sister held hostage.
Working together they rekindle their chemistry and work on a way to get everyone out.
This is a nice closure to this storyline whilst opening up the Dragon stories and continuing Brandon's narrative.
There's danger, humour and a great collection of characters .

So we reach the final Bitten Point book (but not really because the background story continues in the Dragon Point series).
We continue from the cliffhanger epilogue in book three, with the kidnapping of Melanie, and the traitorous Wes helping.
We soon learn all is not as it appears, and a far more nefarious plot is underway!
I admit, I was slightly saddened that the background story was not completed in this book, but I have hopes that the dragon point series will fix that for me!
In the meantime, it was an enjoyable read, and if you've read the other books in the series, you'll probably want to read this just to see how it all turns out!

Gator's Challenge by Eve Langlais is the fourth (and final) story in her Bitten Point series, set in the Louisiana bayou. Wes Mercer is one of those no-good Mercer boys, but for a short time, Melanie made him feel like he was worthy of her. When he breaks things off with her, she goes on to marry respectable but dull Andrew Killinger, now head of Bittech Corporation. Years later, all is not as it seems, and Wes has a chance to help right some wrongs...

Gator's Challenge is one wild ride. Melanie and Wes have never really gotten over the other, and with good reason. Eve Langlais' story has the pages turning and the fur/scales flying! A great close to this series!

Finally a good ending. There was lotsa angst and not a clear way out...didn’t feel like a HEA was at all possible or eminent. Reconnection. Madness. A few loose ends. Made for interesting reading. Or shall I say listening...very good narrators for the audiobook. Always had a soft spot for Wes and liked how he and
Melanie were weaved throughout the series. Good culmination. Whereas some of the previous books were not as strong all together it’s a good paranormal 101 series.
I’ll now add Eve to my repertoire.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)

He had loved enough to give her up to have a better life with someone who would give her what he couldn't.
The funny thing is, she had loved him, still loved him, but had settled for the house in the suburbs, with 2 and half bathrooms. To be married to a man who had never taken her breath away with a single kiss.
Now, they were trapped by that man and couldn't see a way out!

3.5 to 4 Stars

I actually finished this in 2016, not long after I started, but I couldn't really decide if I liked it. There was something that kept me from really liking it. The ending and twist was far too convenient, and I'm sick and tired of the big bad. Overall, it's not a bad story. In fact, I'm sure many will squeal in delight. I just had some problems getting into it and believing the ending. It's possible that could be my failing and not EL's.

I had overlooked reading the last book in this series, but remedied that recently. :)

Since I'd finished book 3 a long time ago, I didn't remember too many of the players but remembered what was going on with Bittech, the shifters and Bitter Point. I enjoyed this story and wasn't disappointed, however there were some unanswered questions. Maybe these answers appear in Brandon's book (which is a different but related series), but maybe not. Regardless, very cute and enjoyed it.

I read this series after I read the dragon series (the books already out). But I would recommend reading this series before the dragon series since it sets the dragons up. I really love this author. And each series has it's own flavor. One series might be darker, another more humorous, another more focused on sex, but all the series are well written and fun to read.

Fitting

What a sneaky way to end the series. Although the end was quite fitting for Andrew, I like the fact that it wasn’t really over because now we get to see what happens to Ace. The plot was familiar unfortunately but the writer is really good about setting the scene and giving the reader character insights.

Warning ⚠️ : paranormal romance

Narrator score🎧 ; the narrator is great. I think she saved a lot in this series.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: the book is full of drama but I wouldn't call it sad.

The book itself📖: I liked the book, it was cool and the for the ending of the series, I loved the book it was very good.

These two were certainly an emotional duo, even though Wes tried to keep his emotions under wraps. As their worlds fall apart, and it seems they are at odds, their emotions override their common sense. That doesn’t fix, well, really anything, but it certainly helps when they need to turn things to their favour. A HEA that has been waiting since their teen years is all the more satisfying for these two 😊

Finally the End!!

But not considering the Dragon Series. Loved the good characters. And shockingly the uncle survived that ordeal. I for sure thought he would have been killed. Wes and Melanie and the twins I’m sure lived happily ever after lol. On to the dragon series. 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜😊😊😊
