When the worst case scenario befalls the Vagabond Circus, Zuma knows she must ensure it doesn’t fall to doom. Titus’s job is to guarantee the show goes on, while the acrobats seek to avenge and rescue. Jack has no idea that he’s about to levitate himself into a deadly situation, and only Zuma and Finley can save him from a threat unlike what most have ever encountered. In this second whimsical and dark installment of the Vagabond Circus tale, the reader learns just how the ringmaster, Dr. Dave Raydon, rescued everyone in his troupe and also brought love and treasures into their lives. The unveiling of this history only brings more mystery as the true enemy to Vagabond Circus is unveiled. Charles Knight isn’t an evil man with a deadly agenda. He’s the worst kind of human being and he won’t stop until he’s ruined everyone and everything that the ringmaster loves. Paralyzed is an episodic ride that unravels the pieces of this fantasy circus one act at a time.

This was just so magnificent and enchanting. The fact that I used the audiobook made it even more magical and unique, as I could hear all of the voices and the sounds, and feel the non-stop action and the struggles of the characters like I was there too. Through the audiobook, the story of Zuma, Finley, Jack, and the rest of the Vagabond Circus characters felt like a living, breathing thing, tangling me in its web.
Today we remember the man who brought magic back to this world by lighting a spark in all of you. You are all his legacy. You are the magic of Vagabond Circus
In this book, I followed Zuma and Finley on their quest to save their friends and the circus. I also saw a lot of chapters from Titus' P.O.V, since he had now the weight of the circus' responsibilities on his shoulders. I learned more about a lot of secondary characters, and came to absolutely adore some of them, like Sunshine, the girl who knew everyone's feelings but her own, or Ian, the boy who had to bear the terrible burden of knowing the future, and the consequences of everybody's actions. Or Fanny, the woman who found everything she wanted, but was ready to lose it all, and Titus, the man who expected a life of boredom, and instead got one full of wonders.
I felt like I was a silent observer, that though joined the whole thing, and felt every agony and every worry, every sadness and relief and hope and love of the characters, as everything was passed to me through the audiobook.
The plot was a little bit slow but it was okay for the book since it worked very well with the audiobook. Maybe if it was a paperback, it would annoy me a tiny bit but as I was listening, I barely noticed it. The Zuma chapters were my least favorite, since for some reason Zuma is not a character I like, but the rest of them, and especially the chapters of the sidekick circus members were truly enjoyable and breathtaking.
Zuma and Finley's relationship also grew throughout this book and I really liked how it got planned, with every twist waiting in the corner, ready to push them away from each other. I really hope they'll find a way to be together in the end, despite everything, because they truly deserve it.
The story of Charles Knight surprised me as well, as it was truly cleverly spun, and it made me even more excited for Released. I really want to see what conclusion Sarah Noffke will bring to this amazing trilogy ♥ Until it, though, enjoy yourselves starting it :)
Recommended for fans of circuses, multiple fleshed out characters and a story of love, and beauty, and heartache. ~Mary
***I received the ARC ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review***
Twice now I’ve tried to sit down and write a decent review, the main reason I’ve struggled is that I’m running out of synonyms for the word phenomenal when describing Sarah Noffke’s books. I also have no idea how to convey the degree/amount of feelings running through my heart just thinking about what I experienced within the pages. It probably doesn’t help that I (once again) forgot about the extras at the back of the book and thought I had more chapters… THAT ENDING IS NOT OKAY. I’m not okay *ensue flailing* *dies*
As the second book in The Vagabond Circus Trilogy, Paralyzed sees everyone having to come to grips with the life altering death that broke our hearts in the first and let me tell you, it’s even more devastating now. Finley and Zuma have walls between them that take a lot to break down (including some hilarious but wounding banter). Jack was off being a suicidal idiot, only now I have a new appreciation for his character and would change that to ‘rightly emotional boy who needs a group hug with his friends’.
Then of course there’s the villain that makes me want to be physically violent. Get me in a room with Knight and I may not be able to take him down (the way he can torture minds doesn’t look pleasant) but I’ll have a lot of fun trying. Noffke might just have a little evil of the author kind in herself looking at how well she can tear a reader’s heart out, give them a beautiful beacon of hope and then rip it all away again. So you should definitely read her books ;) I look forward to crying with you.

Finally getting to my review on this wonderful story!
Paralyzed, to me, was a rollercoaster of emotions.
The circus crew must learn to deal with their sadness while others search for the truth.
Zuma is determined to take this on with incredible tenacity, and she has Finley right there beside her. He had broken her trust before, but she steps into his arms despite that because without trust, neither of them will be able to conquer the task ahead. So when she steps into his arms...beautiful and torturous things occur.
Sweet and dark. Tantalizing and terrifying. Another amazing book by Miss Noffke!
Oh. My. Gods. The circus is still in town! This is a one of a kind sequel with the perfect tragedy, mysterious villain, that is full of fragile moments of love, sacrifice, and pain, but with the most perfect ending that left me absolutely speechless. There were many moments that made me laugh, kept me on edge, and twisted my heart. Sarah Noffke writes tragedy so good it hurts. By the time the story gets to the end I was so twisted inside...and then left with my mouth hanging wide open! I sat here thinking “What did you do to me?” and while I sat contemplating the hate mail that I wanted to send to the author for another jaw dropping cliffhanger...I took a deep breathe and decided that I will wait (im)patiently for Released to come out because, in true Sarah Noffke fashion, the ending will blow you away! While the Vagabond Circus is trying to grieve the death of the beloved ringmaster, Finley and Zuma chase after Jack who is going to Knight’s compound to try and avenge the ringmaster’s death. Zuma is extremely upset with Finley and is really trying to punish him. The constant banter between Finley and Zuma in the car ride and seeing them breaking down each others walls was the best. We are introduced to Zuma’s family and Jack’s family. Both are very different and incredible in very different ways. But the story, the story is so much more. It revolves around the entire circus. We get to see snippets about how the ringmaster’s death affect everyone. The tightrope is unraveling and people are feeling helpless everywhere. And so many secrets! Then Boom! THE END! And that’s when I became speechless.
“But what Zuma always discounted was that life didn’t continuously unfold in logical ways. Dave often reminded her of that. Life is full of magic and if you try and explain it all then you lose the opportunity for bewilderment, which is a beautiful thing, he often told her.”
“Zuma reasoned that it was only because in her purest of hearts she had to admit that loving Finley was completely and absolutely unavoidable. She hadn’t forgiven Finley and didn’t know when that would happen, but even after everything she knew she loved him. Loved him with something so pure that it couldn’t be stopped. She’d tried to stop herself from loving him, but it was like changing the rotation of the Earth or snuffing out stars with a single thought. It just couldn’t be done. Such things were the natural order of life. Predators hunt prey. Night precedes morning. Zuma loves Finley.”
“Today we remember the man who brought magic back to this world by lighting a spark in all of you. You are all his legacy. You are the magic of Vagabond Circus.”
I. Can. Not. Wait. For. Released. Incredible series that is sure to suck you in like gravity. Be prepared to be mesmerized! Ok, you read the review...what are you waiting for? Go get this book!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
If you have not read Suspended STOP right hear…Hurry go one click it …go now. You will want to read it first. Paralyzed starts were Suspended left off. What will the circus do without the glue that held it together is no longer there? How will the circus go on with the acrobats missing?
Jack took off on a mission and now it is up to Finley and Zuma to find him and save him. Jack has no idea what he is dropping in on. Finley knows but doesn’t want to let Zuma in on it. Zuma tries to get Finley to trust her enough to let her in. However, Finley struggles to let her help and allow her in because his past is a dark one.
There were a few secrets that Finley let Zuma in on that surprised me even. I have to say I loved the scenes with Zuma’s family. Her sister was a hoot and her brother oh my. All three of them are so different. I have to say the thing Zuma does to help protect Jack from his family’s hurtfulness had me shaking my head. What was she thinking? Poor Finley cannot catch a break. Meanwhile, back at the circus they are all grieving trying to deal with what is happening. Titus is trying to pull it together and go on but not sure how he can do it.
The ending all I can say is hold onto your Top Hat because things at the circus has been flipped upside down. Sarah has such a way of making you feel paralyzed and suspended in midair at the end of this one. I need to have the third book now!
A few of my favorite lines:
she was pretty certain over the next few days they were going to tear each other’s hearts in pieces when she knew all they wanted was to love one another.
“Why won’t you tell me what the curse was about?” she said, her voice suddenly calmer, restrained. “Because I’m and asshole, Zuma, that’s why,” Finley said. Life is full of magic and if you try and explain it all then you lose the opportunity for bewilderment, which is a beautiful thing.
Zuma didn’t feel whole anymore but rather melted into the person beside her, like they were one. It was a terrifyingly freeing feeling and the point that those two ideas could exist as one confounded every part of both their beings. Zuma could see nothing. Feel nothing. But she had a knowingness so pure and rich she didn’t question it. She was his. And the person all around her belonged to her as much as she belonged to him. There were one.
it struck Zuma how loving Finley could be, especially for not having given affection all his life. It was like the act of unconditional love was somehow in his DNA. He was truly a marvel to her she realized as she watched him walk away.
*****The author provided a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.*****
4.5. If you liked Suspended, you’ll love Paralyzed. Both books are so different from most of the YA fiction that I have read. The characters aren’t continually bombarded with needless, inexplicable threats, but there is always something (suspense, impending romance, mystery, a huge revelation, etc.) that compels you to keep reading.
Plot: At the end of Suspended, Jack left to seek revenge on Knight, Zuma felt completely betrayed by Finley, Finley was heartbroken by Zuma’s rejection, and Titus was completely distraught about what to do in Dave’s absence. Paralyzed picks up that same night and shows how each of these characters — as well as the other circus members — struggle to come to terms with the devastating turn of events.
Characters: Paralyzed includes the same characters that Suspended did, so we’ve already seen how different each of them is. We know that they are all flawed in some way, but it’s their shortcomings and insecurities that make them (most of them) relatable and easy to root for. Paralyzed expands on each of these characters, showing us exactly how Dave interacted with each member of the circus to help him or her get past any limitations. In the end, the readers, much like the characters) are left wondering what will happen to everyone without Dave’s reassuring presence.
Writing: One of the things I love about Noffke's books is that they are so well-edited. I only found a couple of typos, and I was reading a pre-release copy. I love clean writing because it means that I can focus more on the story at hand rather than the errors on the page. I will say that as hard as I focused on the mystery Noffke presented, the book was totally unpredictable; every time I thought I knew what would happen, I was quickly proven wrong. In terms of content, there were a couple of curse words, several disturbing scenes that detail the aftermath of Knight’s violence, and a tiny bit of innuendo. In terms of rating, I would probably give it a PG-13.
The Bottom Line: In my review for Suspended, I mentioned that it is one of those books you start reading and all of a sudden you're done and left wanting more. The same thing applies to Paralyzed. I was reading right along when I came across the words “The End.” I thought, “Huh, how did that happen?” Then it hit me…. “No, no, no, no. It can’t stop there. I still need answers!” In a panic, I googled to see when the sequel was due out, and I breathed a huge sigh of relief to find that I only have to wait about a month for Released, the third book in the series.
What a mesmerizing tale, the second book of the Vagabond Circus is the perfect companion to book one.Book one we were introduced to the cast of the Vagabond Circus and what their act was and the special skills they possessed. In book 2 we find out more of the history of Vagabond Circus and Dr. Dave Raydon Ring Master ex-strode nare. After Dr.Dave's death the secrets begin to slip out to a select few, who felt a little betrayed that they never knew, shouldn't they have known? Why didn't they know? Dr. Dave's right-hand man Titus is grieving like everyone else in this little Circus family, he as has to figure out how he is going to fill the wonderful man's shoes and make his legacy grow and continue and keep the Circus in the black. It is an overwhelming feat. Finley and Zuma are both dancing around their feelings for each other and the demons they carry inside from the past. Finley is a man of few words, he has learned it is not good to let future event to be shared with others, for good or bad that is the way it must be.Zuma is hurt that he didn't share what he knew would come to pass, thinking if she had known, maybe the outcome would have been better. Jack the other acrobat decides to get revenge for the death of his friend and being the impulsive one, he goes after Charles Knight by himself. Charles knight is a collector of special children, he is cruel and cold as ice. The children become his personal drones, they do as he directs or they pay the price.Finley knows all too well, just how horrible and dark Mr.knight is. Finley is the only drone that ever escaped his compound, he was Mr.Kight's best thief. After Jack's unfortunate accident, we find out that Fanny was once a nurse and had amazing success with difficult cases. She just disappeared one day, who would believe that she would run away with the Circus? We also meet Zuma's family, her mom & dad her sister Dakota and brother Hudson. As wonderful as Zuma's mom & dad are, Jack's parents and brothers are doubly horrid.Shallow, cold and worried about appearances instead of caring for each other. If you want to know more you will have to buy the book. I adore Sarah Noffke, the first book I read of her's was the Ren series. She is an amazing story teller and she knows just when to ramp up the emotional train with the turn of the knife or insert a bit of humor to keep it light in the dark recesses of the story. The Dream travelers and the world they live in that she has created are just wonderful, entertaining and inviting.I can hardly wait to see what happens next in the Vagabond Circus series.
"I have received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review!"
I really think Ms. Noffke sleeps with a knife in her hand and she's only dreaming of who she's going to kill next. Seems like I was the next on the list because I DID NOT expect that ending. And it really mauled me. She has this uncanny talent of giving you the frilliest of wings and the hope to fly and then she just rips those apart and sets them on fire. And I am sure she is laughing her evil laugh while doing this. When I was at last in a good place, the rug has been pulled from beneath my legs, the branch has been cut, Elvis has left the building. Houston has so many problems right now I don't even want to begin counting. I fell into such a deep love for Finley and Zuma in this book, they have their hooks so under my bones I can't see straight. And Jack, for all his stupidity because he acted on such an impulsive gesture that brought him so much pain, has shown such remarkable qualities that maybe otherwise we couldn't possibly have unveiled. I loved the journey, I loved the banter, I loved the kisses, I loved the car (seriously I want one), I loved Zuma's parents, and the naming, don't get me started on the naming. Now I finally know why Zuma has that name and for God's sake, Dakota and Hudson, cracked me up. Her parents were getting busy all over the place. The hospital scene with Jack's parents was brilliant, heartbreaking and hilarious at the same time. I don't know how she's managed that since I was a step away from clobbering them but in the end it was good. She always manages to yank all my emotions out of me with her books. It makes me very bipolar and when I start to crazy talk with my hubby about that "piece of shit evil man that enslaves and tortures kids for their gifts", he looks at me like I've lost it. Sometimes I think maybe I did, loose it, I mean. So it's empirically demonstrated that Ms. Noffke's books have the ability to make you nuts. You are looking at a future in an insane asylum, popping anti-depressants like PEZ and your two selves talking at the same time with a psychiatrist. But hey, at least you know how the book ended.
Thank you so much for this book, it was amazing and now I am afraid to even begin the next. The plot thickens guys. I'm stuck in pudding right now.
I have received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review, thanks Sarah!
Life is full of magic and if you try and explain it all then you lose the opportunity for bewilderment, which is a beaufitul thing.
If you watch the first book you must want to read Paralyzed. The day after Dave been gone everything seem so different. Every spirit and light seem gone from their life. Titus must make decision how to keep them unite and make the show goes on. In the other side, Zuma and Finley take a trip to chase and rescue Jack on his reckless ways to revenge. This chapter tell the different side of Zuma before her life in Vagabond, get to know about her family. I love some moments in this part.
I expect for war in this chapter, when Finley met with the Knight but the reader must wait until the next one. Still I get shocked at the ending and wondering what happen next. It was amazing story!
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
For two nights in a row I have lost sleep because of this series. It is so captivating that I just can't seem to put it down. I fell in love with the first book in this series and am I confirmed my love is still holding strong after finishing Paralyzed. Let's start at the cover. I mean seriously is that not the most gorgeous thing you have ever seen. I can just stare at it for hours and can't wait to get my hands on a hard copy. The writing is once again flawless and the story just flows effortlessly. I'm going to talk about characters. It has multiple point of views which is engaging and engaging. You get to feel what many of the characters feel while they deal with their grief. I could feel what Sunshine was feeling, Titus, Fanny and Oliver. It was absolutely refreshing. I usually talk about my favorite main hero of each story but I'm going to do something a little different. I'm going to talk about a great villain. Knight is the perfect villain. He is mysterious and low key. He is talked about a lot but rarely do you get to read his point of view. I think he is the key to making this an unforgettable series. Finley and Zuma are great but Knight is my favorite villain. I just can't say enough good things about this series. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I would recommend this series to literally all of my book friends.
I have been sitting here staring at my screen for several minutes now. I am in shock. Did that just really happen? Did I read what I just read?! Was this all a crazy dream I had?! I don't think this was international but I am rendered paralyzed by this book! I am not sure what to do now. I need more. Want more. Crave more, but I have to wait! From the stunning cover to the last word, I was entranced. The phenomenally written story consumed me. The pace flowed effortlessly and is unlike anything I have ever read. The characters are mesmerising. I loved each one including Knight! He is a wickedly planned villain. Just when you think everything is OK, the tightrope collapses and you fall. Hoping for a net and not knowing if there will be one until the next book! I can't wait for to be "Released" from my agony!
WOW!!! I loved this book. The story is creative and unique with characters I've become attached to. Sarah Nofke has created amazing new characters in the Dream Travelers universe.I enjoy it when an author creates flawed characters who struggle with the their past, and the consequences of their choices. The ending was quite unexpected and left me paralyzed with the need to read book three.I highly recommend this book to any fan of the YA and Sci-Fi genres.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Wow Sarah has done it once again with another amazing series. Can't wait to see what's next for everyone in this book. So so recommend Sarah's books to everyone. I was honored to have gotten a ARC of this book.
In the second compelling and imaginative fantasy in the “Vagabond Circus “trilogy - “Paralyzed”-danger and mystery continue to ramp higher after a tragic murder at the circus has the performers and crew grieving over their loss, Jack seeking vengeance with Zuma and Finley hot on his trail, and Titus determined to ensure that the show still goes on.
In the thrilling continuation of the Vagabond Circus as the hunt for retribution against a killer and his army of criminal kids heats up after the senseless murder of the ringmaster, multiple layers of this complex story begin to unfold with the history of the circus, the evil schemes of Charles Knight, and insight into Finley’s painful past. Emotionally-charged the reader is swept up in Zuma’s heartbreak and her unforgiveness, Jack’s traumatic injury, and Finley’s suffering with the guilt of having failed the ringmaster while seeking redemption in her eyes.
Intensity and suspense escalate when Zuma and Finley discover Jack on the verge of death in Knight’s abandoned warehouse while Titus struggles to find a new ringmaster and to keep the circus afloat. Well-written and intriguing, tension mounts when the circus seems on the edge of ruin with the loss of its acrobats, and the strained tempers of performers, especially one who’s mislead about her past. Yet through all the pain, suffering and heartbreak Finley holds tight to his unconditional love for Zuma who struggles to remain aloof until he begins to let her in to his thoughts and past. Riveting from beginning to end the story progresses swiftly and smoothly to a shocking climax that begs for a third book.
Like all her books Sarah Noffke has a genius for creating multi-facets to her characters personalities as they are confronted with new challenges and suffering. Injured severely because of his impulsive nature and need for revenge Jack Fuller shows patience and fortitude in standing up to his self-absorbed family and courage in his determination to overcome his injury. An inherently good man he easily forgives Finley his lack of foresight, offering him his friendship. Spirited but shattered Zuma Zanders feels betrayed, the loss of the ringmaster leaving her broken and wanting to inflict pain on Finley who’s guilt-ridden and going to great lengths to find redemption. In this story Finley relives the horror and abuse of his past as well as revealing a compassionate, giving and loving heart.
Yet breathing uncertainty, cruelty and even nastiness into this exciting and emotionally-riveting are the selfishness and intolerance of Padmal; the insecurity and reclusive nature of Titus; and the cold, ruthless inhumanity of Charles Knight.
I loved “Paralyzed” even with the loss of its ringmaster who created a magical setting in the Big Top while bringing love and laughter to his troupe and crew and can’t wait to see how the story ends.
*Please note: this review will contain spoilers for the previous book in this series. If you have yet to read it, you may want to avoid this post!
Paralyzed is the second book in The Vagabond Circus series, and it picks up where we left off in book one, Suspended. Ringmaster Dave Raydon is dead and the rest of the circus has to try to pick up the pieces and continue on. Meanwhile Jack has left to track down Charles Knight, the man responsible for Dave’s death, so Zuma and Finley are rushing to save him from the dangers that Knight possesses.
I want to start by talking about the characters. My review for Suspended mentioned how much I adored the wide variety of characters that we come across in this series, and once again I continued to adore them in this latest story. Particularly, Jack. I’ll admit that in the previous book, I wasn’t a huge fan of him. But this time around, his story is heart-breaking but also captivating. Without spoiling anything, his character goes through a life-changing event that shows the strength and determination of his character.
The relationship between Zuma and Finley continues to develop in this second story, but I was more invested in the plot going on around them than I was the romance. Although I enjoy the scenes they share, their romantic relationship doesn’t define them. They work well as a strong team together and I’m excited to see how the end of the second book will change things for them in the future.
We get introduced to both Zuma and Jack’s families in this book and it was interesting to see the stark contrast between them. Whilst Zuma’s family are friendly, welcoming and supportive, Jack’s family broke my heart with how they treated their son.
Characters back in the circus are going through a difficult adjustment period after Dave’s death and it was interesting to see how they coped. Whilst I enjoyed that this book focused more on Zuma and Finley’s important rescue mission, I would have liked to have seen more scenes take place in the circus, simply because the characters working there are so wonderfully written and I want to learn more about them. I’m very keen to see what secret Fanny knows with regards to Finley’s heritage!
The plot throughout Paralyzed was well-paced and exciting. The scenes in which Zuma and Finley finally reach Knight’s compound were chilling to read, and I’m looking forward to discovering more about this creepy villain. There is a fantastic cliff-hanger at the end of the novel that definitely has me nervous for the final chapter in this thrilling series!
Before I begin my review, I have to mention the unbelievable covers this series has! The colours are just amazing!
I went into this book ready for action, violence and intricate plans to defeat Charles Knight and make him pay for what he did. What I got was a book full of grief, sadness, anger, unbelievable revelations (some too raw for me to swallow), declarations of love and hate, hilarious scenes in hospitals and an ending that brought everything upside down leaving me again starring at the last page and needing the 3rd book right now!
"That top hat wouldn't fit anyone else."
After what happened in the first book, everybody is trying to come to terms with the new situation and deal with their pain and grief. The story is unraveling in every page, giving us glimpses of what happened in the past. Now we get to understand each character more, and the events that have led to the current situation. The revelations about Knight and the inhumane conditions under which he keeps all those kids in the compound and under his command are unbelievable, making you dislike him and hate him even more.
"One must weather the storm to spy the rainbows."
You can feel the contrasting emotions that Zuma deals with as she realises what has happened. But as the story unfolds and she finds out things, you can see how her feelings just change around. At the same time, even though you learn so much about Finley's awful past, you never for one minute feel pity for him. You just feel proud that he has managed to come out of it as a strong and confident man. But his demons will come and chase him and for once again he will have to be strong in order to protect the people he loves and cares about.
Even though I missed the mesmerizing world of the circus that we were introduced in book #1, this was a necessary installment to clarify things and to give us more information about the story and the characters surrounding it. But now I am ready for more action and plans to finally take Charles Knight down! I'm sure book #3 will be kick ass! ;)
*Many thanks to Sarah Noffke for giving me an eCopy of her amazing book!*
The timeline of Paralyzed takes place over days rather than months, and there's not so much circus action, as there is a scrambling for people to recover after the shock of what's happened to the ringmaster. The action that occurs in this book centres around a single event that has the potential to change people, and the circus. There's the build up to the event and then the aftermath of it. The unhurried pace and reduction in action doesn't take anything away from the book, because the characterisation is more in-depth, drawing you deeper into the character's lives.
In Suspended, the first book in the series, we got to see each Character's skill and some of their personality. In Paralyzed we see what's inside each of them, to the heart of who they are. I love that even though Zuma and Finley come from different backgrounds they try to understand it, allowing it to link them closer rather than become a barrier between them. Zuma and Jack's family's mentioned briefly in book one are brought to life in Paralyzed, providing some humour in a book which may otherwise have become depressing. Titus was outstanding in this book, attempting to fill shoes he knows are too big for him. I am intrigued by the mystery Fanny is keeping, and I think I know what it is, but I guess I'll have to wait until Released comes out next month to find out if I'm right.
The cliffhanger ending left me wanting more -- where will the Vagabond Circus go from here?
Paralyzed is well written and draws you in so you keep flipping those pages to find out what happens next.
I was absolutely loved Paralyzed! It was thrilling, adventurous, and romantic. I love Sarah Noffke’s writing, and I always love her characters (especially Finley). I can’t stop obsessing and can’t wait to dig into Released.
Nothing happened in the whole book. It was boring. Nothing interesting, no action, in the first book there was at least the magic of the circus even though there nothing much happened, too. But here...no magic, no circus, only Zuma and Finley driving on the road...I liked the parts when the author came back to see what the circus characters were doing but in the end that became so repetitive Thank goodness there is only one more book, so I will read it to know how this ends, it maaaybe could be finally interesting, if there would be more books, I would quit this serie already.
This is the second novel in Sarah Noffke’s Vagabond Circus trilogy of young adult paranormal fantasy, which is part of her Dream Traveler universe. It’s an interesting world, and I enjoyed learning about a different group of Dream Travelers. The trilogy is best enjoyed in order, and although it’s not essential, I recommend reading Noffke’s Lucidites Series first so you have a better understanding of Dream Travelers before tackling this series.
Paralyzed offers considerably more insight into the characters than the first book did. There’s less action than I expected, but more opportunity to understand the characters. Some of the characters are not likeable, and I would have preferred to spend less time in their heads.
The book is written in very short chapters that alternate between different characters’ perspectives. I wish that the point of view didn’t change so quickly. Perhaps too many characters had their time in the spotlight. I kept reading though, because I was curious to see how things would turn out for Finley, Zuma, and Jack.
Note that the book includes descriptions of violence, gory injuries, and horrendous child abuse. It ends on a cliffhanger.
Steve Barnes did a good job with narration. He’s easy to understand, and his pacing is fine. He created interesting character voices and conveyed emotions well.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and volunteered to provide an honest review.
Paralyzed picks up where the last book left off. Owner, and ringmaster of Vagabond Circus Dr. Dave Raydon has been murdered and everyone is grieving his death. Jack goes off to confront Knight, Raydon's killer. Zuma and Finley follow after him to help rescue. What Jack doesn't know is Knight is ready for him with Power-Stopper and turns Jack's levitation skills into a deadly outcome. This book reveals the history behind many of the characters we met in the first book including Knight and Dave. Knight is determined to destroy everything Vagabond Circus stands for, everyone Dave loved.
I don't think I liked this book as much as I did Suspended, probably because there was so much focus on the relationship between Finley and Zuma. There was so much going between them and their feelings for one another that I wanted to give up at times. There wasn't a lot of action in it for me, no real confrontation with Knight. Getting in and out of the compound was WAY to easy. There was virtually no magic unless you count Finely sort of teleporting and Sunshine's fire practice, and Ben coming into his powers. OTher than that there was nothing magical about this book, nothing happened the whole book. I kept waiting for it, but nothing happened. I was disappointed in this book. Hopefully something exciting happens in the next.
This second book of the Vagabond Circus trilogy still has me guessing what's going to happen next.
It is such a powerful story, that has kept me riveted to it. Despite me hating to read horror stories, this one has kept me on the edge of my seat - partly because, in the main, the details of Finley's life are only released a little at a time, but also because of the character's interactions with each other.
At times I was laughing at Finley, Zuma, and Jack's antics, but at other times, as their stories progressed, I had to force myself to keep reading, as their fates left me with a sense of horror!
I've never been able to understand how some people could cause such great misery and grief to others - although, as a student of history, I've seen it happen time after time - but to have one person control so many others really IS a nightmare scenario!
I really have to go and start reading the third book: Released, in order to see this whole nightmare finished. Wel, I hope so, anyway!
Get this trilogy, read it yourself, and I hope you enjoy it for the character study that it is!
So, I'll be off, doing just that, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of the last book in the trilogy!
I love this series. Finley is one of the best characters I have ever read. He is sweet, funny and extremely intelligent despite being surrounded by considerable adversity and a dark past. This book takes a different direction than the previous story, but it had to in order to make sense. I loved the new characters introduced, especially Zuma's family. I hope Zuma continues to lighten up on Finley. She seems to make his already difficult life a bit more so. However, I think the third book will change all of the characters considerably. I can't wait until its available on audio. I highly recommend this series.
Paralyzed: A Dream Traveler Adventure: Vagabond Circus, Book Two was a great read by Sarah Noffke. After Dr. Dave's death, everyone is looking at who will save the circus. Zuma knows that she needs to save the circus from the intended doom. Titus is tasked with making sure that the circus and show goes on. Jack finds himself in a deadly situation; where Zuma and Finley are the only ones who can save him. I really enjoyed learning about how Dave saved everyone in the circus. I really enjoyed this second installment of the Vagabond Circus. I can't wait to read more in this series.
Paralyzed is a story of new discoveries and new trusts. The loss of a good and gentle man brings heartbreak to all and revenge for others. Will the damage done be the end to the magic of the Vagabond Circus? Will Jack, Finley and Zuma survive? The adventure and mystery continues. Read to find out what happens.
We see the members of Vagabond Circus return in all their glory. Sarah shows us laughter, tears, pain, and love. We see tenacity, determination, and loyalty. This second book in the trilogy is very intense and full of emotions: the full range of emotions.
This act ends with a huge shock and a cliffhanger....
Dave is dead, Finley failed to stop his murder. Jack has taken off to take vengeance on his murderer, but the man responsible is Dave's brother, the man responsible for abusing Finley and many others his entire life. Zuma and Finley are chasing after Jack to save him and Titus is falling apart with the responsibility of the circus without Dave. And why has nobody figured out that if Knight died Zuma's curse would end?

It took me a while to get back into the writing style and story of this book, because it had been a while since I read the first one. Once I did, things slowly came back to me and I once again did really enjoy it. I really liked learning more about Finley's past in this volume!
The ups and downs never stop. What a rollercoaster ride to the end. Trying to get Zuma's attention, trying to establish his role and to make matters worse, the ones they love come to harm. It's a must read.
