Chelsea DeVries wanted to be a writer at the age of 7. Her first publishing credit came at the age of 14 with a poem in a student anthology. She then wrote nonstop while doing IB classes in high school. She published two YA novels while still in high school which after over 10 years she rewrote as a NA romance that she looks to put out in the coming year. She is a seeker of justice and uses her words to free this world’s outcasted, peculiar, and underdogs from the chains that bind them. When not writing she runs and does PR for authors and musicians and corporate entities with her bookish brand The Smart Cookie Philes. Though she’s Florida born and raised, she has New Jersey in her veins. She currently lives in Port Richey, FL with her squad of two dogs. You can follow her on Instagram at @chelsealynnpoetry and her squad at @dasquad26. In October 2020, DeVries was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome which is a form of Autism.
Chelsea DeVries wrote this book when we were in high school together, and as a friend, I wanted to support her by purchasing and reading it. "Dream Girl" is a cute story about a young girl crushing on two guys, both of which she thinks seem to be perfect for her. It's a cute story, and I was very proud of Chelsea for getting it published. "Dream Girl" could have used a bit more fleshing out and a couple more revisions before final publication, but it was a nice first venture into the publishing world. I look forward to seeing what Chelsea brings to the table next as an adult novelist!
I wrote this book when I was 15 so although it was a good place to start, it definitely needed more work than I put into it. Yet, I don't regret writing it young because at least I realized I wanted to be a writer, and that you can't become a success overnight. Dr. Suess was rejected from 25 publishers because his ideas didn't fit the status quo. Being a writer is about seeing the world in a different way. At 15, I had this crazy idea that romance books should be written to appeal to guys so that's what I set out to do with these books. Yes, they lack content but before you go and leave another five paragraph review hating on my first real attempt at making the world see me as a writer, take a walk in my shoes. More importantly, pick up my pen and put it to paper. Writers should celebrate each other; not put each other down.
