Brides of Paradise #1

Vacation Bride

Rate this book
FAST AND FUNNY CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
When Anna Williams lands a spot on the Vacation Bride reality show, she's hoping to give her sick father a break from the Milwaukee winter, not win a rich husband. Which is good, because the hunky maintenance man whose broad shoulders and clear blue eyes have caught her attention is neither rich nor part of the contest...is he?

Chris Andersen was a disinherited resort brat until his uncle's family crashed their private helicopter during an argument over money. Now Chris is a secret billionaire, determined to make the Paradise Resort a success on its own. To pay for improvements, he's hosting his cousin's internet reality series, Vacation Bride, a show where women compete to win a rich husband. The women are silly and the show's a lot of work, but the publicity seems worth it. At least until Chris finds out he may be entering the contest himself...as first prize.

Vacation Bride is my ideal contemporary romance read - it's fun, it's sweet, it's romantic, and I adored both of the main characters. The setting comes alive and who doesn't want to spend some time in the gorgeous Virgin Islands? The plot is unique and the dialogue witty, but the best part is how often I either smiled or laughed out loud as I was reading. That's such a gift and I'm grateful to the author for writing such an enjoyable read. Even better yet, there's a sequel in the works. Bravo!

Fun, quick read. It had a smile on my face through the read. It was sweet, refreshing and clean. The romance was settle and impactful. When Chris and Anna meet its more than just chemistry. There was a soul deep connection between the two. Neither of them trusting enough to let their guard down or to fully trust the other. Things get complicated pretty quick but like any good romance. These two find their way to each other and it was just beautiful. The mishaps along the way just made it that much more entertaining. The guise of a reality show was just so fun. The scheming behind the scenes was just too fun.

There were good primary and secondary characters. Those you dislike, you disliked with passion. There was a connection to them all from the smallest part to the primary characters. I had a great break from reality and life.

Narrator Review . . . Emily Beresford did a good job. I found a connection the characters through her. She gave distinct voices to each character. She made the words come to life for the short time we were together.

Cute; Fun; Quick Read

This is the first book I read by author Vicky Loebel
I've found another favorite author!!
This is the love story of Ana and Chris.
Ana's father has had heart surgery. His surgeon thinks a warm place with lots of sunshine will help him heal and recover faster.
Ana; the good daughter becomes a contestant on the reality show Vacation Bride.
Chris is the substitute bachelor looking for a bride. His cousin; Ryan; just eloped with the shows producer.
Neither is looking for a spouse.
Ana needs to stay in the show so her father can get healthier. She doesn't want to get ejected from the island immediately.
The antics of the women are funny.
Most of the contestants are obsessed with how they look. Their makeup and clothing. Not to mention their hair. They're ticked that Ana who doesn't look the part is even in the competition.
Most just want to marry a billionaire.
Both Ana and Chris are down to earth. Money isn't everything. Neither wants a spouse.
What to do? What will happen? The producer will do ANYTHING for HIGHER RATINGS.
I loved this book.
I highly recommend it.
I can't wait to read the second one about cousin Ryan. After he divorces the producer. (She only married him to get Chris to be the replacement Bachelor..rags to riches background).
I can't wait to read other books and series by the author.

Marriage or Money..

Chris, the male lead, inherits the family fortune and his cousin approaches him with the

idea of the reality show.

He reluctantly goes along with the idea.

Anna, the female lead, has a friend who signed her up for the show and she is chosen.

From that moment, the competition is a bit humorous with several women willing to just

about anything to win.

Overall, a well written enjoyable read.

Emily Beresford did well with the narration.

While contemporary romance isn’t my cup of tea, I absolutely loved Loebel’s paranormal/urban fantasy novels. So I decided to give her contemporary romance novel a try. I did enjoy it even if it didn’t wow me like her other novels.

Brideacuda! Ha! I love that phrase. Anna finds herself entered into the contest by her best friend but it means she can leave the Milwaukee winter for the tropical beaches of St. John’s island. Plus, she can bring one ‘stylist’ with her and she chooses her dad who has recently survived cardiac surgery. So right away I liked Anna.

Meanwhile, on St. John’s, the Andersons have cooked up this crazy idea of how to boost interest in their vacation hotel (the Paradise Resort) – host a contest to win the hand of the handsome Ryan Anderson! Chris Anderson isn’t too thrilled about it. He rather stay in the background and keep on fixing air conditioner units but he also knows that the resort needs the promotion. Ryan ends up eloping with the shows producer, Bobbie, so Chris gets stuck being the stand-in groom. He was none too pleased.

This story borders on being a romantic comedy, which I liked. There’s no slap stick comedy or totally ridiculous situations yet there still is humor. After all, we have these potential brides doing crazy stunts for each stage of the contest. Then there’s Chris with his Danish ancestry, humor towards Ryan, the secret Danish p0rn stash, and a tragedy that left him a bit scarred. I liked Anna’s character too but I felt we got more background on Chris.

So not all the potential brides are witches. Loni right away does Anna a favor and the two remained friends throughout the trials and tribulations of the show. Yay! It was good to see that not all the female side characters were horrible people.

There’s obvious sexual attraction between Chris and Anna right from the beginning and I really liked how it built and built. I didn’t care so much for the misunderstandings and apologies, etc. but that seems to be a requisite for this genre. I was a little sad that we didn’t get any sex scenes. Sigh… But I imagined that they had a very good time.

The ending is sweet and charming. All told, I did enjoy this story despite it being a contemporary romance. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Emily Beresford did a great job with this narration. She’s perfect for Anna. I also liked her voice for Tiffany (the evil brideacuda). Her peppy, professional, commanding voice for Bobbie the show producer was spot on. Her male voices were masculine and all her character voices were distinct. She sounded engaged throughout the entire novel. There were no technical issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Vicky Loebel. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Would you consider the audio edition of Vacation Bride to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print edition so I can't compare. But I can say that after listening to the story, I probably won't read the book because I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much. Personally, I would rather listen to the book again than to read it.

What did you like best about this story?
I think what I liked best was that I felt as if I was standing in the background watching the story unfold - both the good times and bad.

What about Emily Beresford’s performance did you like?
She did a great job with the female characters (duh, I know) and in making me feel as if I was a part of the crew, maybe, standing behind the cameras watching the scenes as they reveal themselves.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
If I were to have any extreme reaction it would have to be seeing what a wimp Chris' cousin is and what a b*tch his wife is. But that's also part of the pleasure because you want to see how Chris and Anna are going to handle them. I wouldn't say that this made me cry since I wasn't really that emotionally involved. And I wouldn't say that it made me laugh but I did get a little chuckle out of it.

When I got to see how caring Anna was to her father that did get me a little emotional because I took care of my parents as they got older. I knew exactly what she was going through. I don't know that I would have wanted to be a bachelorette but like Anna I would do just about anything for my dad - even put his needs before my own.

Any additional comments?
When I first started this, I was a little on the fence because I am so not a fan of a certain reality show. Many years ago, I watched the first episode, rolled my eyes, and never watched it again. Not even the after shows. But as I listened to the story Anna had me thinking that maybe all the women aren't as superficial as they appear. I still think that a lot of them have a self-centered reason for putting themselves before the camera but Anna has me thinking that maybe, just maybe, there is one with a slightly different reason.

Chris and Anna had me ready to pack my bags and head to an island in order to experience everything that island has to offer. But if I go to the beach, I'll have to make sure that once I find a comfortable seat that I have plenty to drink and have a lunch and/or snacks available because once I get settled in I'm not moving until this story is finished - yes I would listen to this again. Would also continue to follow the series - looking forward to it.

I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

Anna Williams best friend has signed up to be on The Vacation Bride reality internet show and won a spot. Problem is she broke her leg and had to have surgery to repair the break. There is no way she can go on the show. She gives her spot to Anna. Anna has no desire to go on the show but she does love the idea of an all expense paid vacation with her Father. Her father has recently had heart surgery, and she is excited to get him out of the Milwaukee winter.

Chris Andersen is a secret billionaire. He was raised as a resort Brat. Now that he is an adult he wants to make his resort the Paradise Resort. His cousin Ryan Anderson has agreed to be the bachelor on Vacation Bride, and internet reality series. Chris has agreed to host the show at Paradise Resort in order to pay for some improvements he wants. Sounds cut and dry right? Nope!! Ryan has eloped and now he cannot be the bachelor. Ryan talks Chris into taking his place.

Anna and Chris have a chance meeting. Anna plays off she is just a resort guest, and Chris plays as the Maintenance man at Paradise Resort. When they both realize they have been deceived by the other they try to be done with each other, problem is sparks have already flown.

Chris is now looking for a way out of being 1st prize in Vacation Bride. Anne and Chris come up with a plan. Where they will all win.

Vicky Loebel has done a great job with this book. I really liked th though and backstories she put into her characters. The book was sweet and clean. There were no strong sex scenes and no strong language. This is book one her new series Brides of Paradise. I will be watching for book 2.

Emily Beresford has also done a great job with the narration of the audiobook. She really brought the characters to life. You could hear the smiles and frowns in her voice. It was a pleasure to listen to her narrate this book. She kept the story flowing nicely and did not bore me with mechanical reading. If felt like she was getting into the story as much as I was.

I was gifted my copy of this book from the Author and AudioBookWorm for review purposes. The thoughts are my own.

Yes! I loved “Vacation Bride” and it truly felt like a vacation. A short one, but still I have spent some amazing 5 hours. Set in an exquisite environment, the reality show that should provide a billionaire with a bride turns into a beautiful story behind the scenes.

Our main characters meet without knowing much about one another and they have a beautiful first date sharing personal things. But they both avoid the most important items: she competes for another man’s heart and he is not a simple maintenance guy.

Anna Williams is only interested in offering her father a vacation at the Paradise Resort and her participation in the reality show offered her a free ticket. Meeting Chris Andersen was an amazing bonus. To her surprise, Chris is the one she has to impress (together with the internet audience) in order to stay at the resort. Chris is ambitious and hard-working. Yes, he may have a fortune but does not want to use that amount. He has created a great business from the Paradise Resort and wants to keep it profitable. He hates the cameras, he doesn’t like the attention and he’s not willing to pick just any girl as a winner. Marriage is out of the question.

I don’t want to tell you the entire story, but Anna and Chris have an honest relationship after all the misunderstandings are cleared. She is innocent and kind and wants nothing to do with the women competing in the show. He wants to help his cousin by taking his spot in “Vacation Bright”, but does not want to risk his relationship with Anna. They are beautiful and strong together.

The author has captured very well the ugly side of Media, where producers are just interested in the audience, focused on intrigue and scandal. I did not like the relationship between Bobby and Chris’s cousin. He could have taken a stand, or at least legal actions, just do something. I think this ruined a bit the story for me. The narration was great! Emily Beresford did an amazing job with all the voices and her participation had a significant contribution to the beautiful experience that was “Vacation Bride”.

So 4 stars and my congratulations to the author and narrator for this lovely audiobook J Happy Listening J

A Bachelor swap?

Cute story. A sort of combination of that old show Fear Factor and The Bachelor, with a little bit of Survivor thrown in.

Anna and Chris are both very likable characters who in all honesty, physically should have spent more time talking to each other. Not only would they have bypassed a couple of totally unnecessary misunderstandings, but I think it would have made a more interesting story. More secret walks on the beach, a little bit more relationship development... as a reader I would have gladly exchanged some misunderstandings for romance.

Let us all learn from Anna and Chris, talking and romance is better than misunderstandings and sadness. May we not make the same mistakes!

Really, it was enjoyable. A little more frisky than I usually read, but if it were a movie it would still be rated PG-13.

I received a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing an honest review.

Anna is selected for an Internet reality show on a tropical island. She agrees to go so she can get her sick dad out of the Milwaukee winter they are currently enduring. Although she is supposed to be competing for the love of a billionaire bachelor, she soon finds herself attracted to the maintenance man. Chris, the maintenance man, has his own secrets he is hiding. Can these two overcome their secrets and find their happily ever after? This book is filled with a cast of characters that made me laugh, cry, and get angry. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

Dimenticabile.

Sweet.

Chris and Anna were fun and the supporting characters made the story even better. Not being a watcher of TV shows about women competing for a groom some of the behaviours caused me to wonder why they weren't removed. Bobby was suitably ambitious and underhanded so her comeuppance was delightful.

The story was well paced and flowed pleasantly from one chapter to the next. Mild drama, but really a very relaxing read.

Cute book! If you love reality TV shows, like The Bachelor, this book is for you! Anna Williams signs up to be a contestant on Vacation Bride. The first book in the Brides of Paradise series a well written story with a very good storyline. I liked reading Anna Williams and Chris Andersen's story that Bobbie was really something else, I liked Ryan's part in this story. And I liked the Dolphin theme that ran throughout the story. I want to read the next book.

Vacation Bride: An Andersen Family Romantic Comedy is the first book in the Brides of Paradise series and is an entertaining read. The characters are well developed, some likable, others not so much. The storyline about the reality show is fun and original. I am looking forward to more books in this series.

This is a silly romance. I think authors compete to determine who can come up with the most outrageous circumstances to force people into a bogus marriage, which of course leads to love and a real marriage.
It's a mental Twinkie, kind of cute, relatively clean. A few 4 letter words. If you are looking for a guilty pleasure, this may for you.

Anna Williams enters a reality competition as a potential bride that takes place on an island - she wants a vacation for her dad. She meets Chris Andersen, who she thinks is a maintenance worker. But he's really the owner of the resort, and he's a stand-in for the bachelor when the first one elopes. It was kind of a silly story, but it was cute and short. 3.5 stars.

Una novela cortita pero bastante entretenida, aunque me habría gustado un poco mas de desarrollo en la parte donde ella descubre la verdad sobre él, pero en forma global la novela esta bastante buena con un tema entretenido.

Not exactly believable, but then Reality TV shows are not real. It was fun to see how many things could be thrown in with the package. It did provide two things for a book challenge. Wisconsin for the state and the Virgin Islands for a U. S. territory.

This is not a sweet romance. It’s laced with profanity, innuendo and sex. I’m not sure how it got mixed in with my sweet romances. The story line was strong enough, but the PG-13 rating was pushing it, especially with the F-bombs.
