Rate this book
Thirteen-year-old Cedar Creek sleuth, Mallory Gilmartin, is once again involved in a mystery filled with risk and intrigue. An antique Ming vase has been stolen from the town's elderly librarian-the same vase that someone claims was stolen from them some thirty years earlier. Aided by a determined ghostly apparition from the past, Mallory finds herself on a dangerous path as she attempts to unravel the truth behind the strange missing Ming. Following in the same vein as Anne Loader McGee's first book in the Cedar Creek mystery series, The Mystery at Marlatt Manor, the second book, The Mystery of the Missing Ming, is equally full of YA paranormal action, adventure, and mystery, with elements of surprise guaranteed to keep your heart pounding throughout every page.

I prefer writing children's stories, but I have done a number of adult articles for magazines. I'm originally from New Zealand and am descended from Maori royalty (that's the Polynesian group indigenous to NZ).

13 year-old Mallory thought she had her work cut out for her when she solved The Mystery at Marlatt Manor. Now she’s faced with solving the case of a missing Ming vase worth a ton of money that the town’s elderly librarian is accused of stealing years and years ago! Mallory knows the librarian is innocent and sets out to prove it. With the help of her friend Kyle and her spunky (don’t call me grandma) grandmother, Aggie, the super-sleuth faces danger, skeptical policemen, and a ghostly war plane to uncover the truth.

What I thought – What I thought was I had the mystery figured out from the beginning – and I was so wrong. ;) As I read the first part of the book I thought “ho-hum” no-brainer what’s going on here. But, then the story got deeper and deeper and I totally got it wrong! How fun! Ms. McGee wrote a great mystery that kept me guessing. I liked this book (the second in the series) even more than the first. Ms. McGee’s writing style is very kid-friendly and it still gives a great adventurous story that kids will love. The book is perfect for young advanced readers looking for a good mystery and a story that’s more involved. The characters are developed really well and you get to know a lot about them in the book’s 158 pages. I love Ms. McGee’s descriptive writing style that really makes the story come to life. As a bonus, there is a section in the back of the book explaining the history of the Ming Dynasty and why a Ming vase would be so valuable.

Teen sleuth Mallory Gilmartin is back in a new adventure. Last time we heard from her in The Mystery at Marlatt Manor, Malory was unraveling a devious plot regarding a deserted mansion. In her new Cedar Creek Mystery, someone stole librarian Edna May Florentine’s valuable Ming vase from her home. To make matters worse, a mysterious interloper is accusing the elderly librarian of stealing that same vase from his house 30 years ago; so the local heat takes Edna May away in handcuffs.

Anne Loader McGee brings us book two of the Cedar Creek Mystery series, The Mystery of the Missing Ming. With her signature crisp sentences and humorous dialogue, McGee keeps readers engaged in a fun-filled adventure that unfolds during the 1970s in Cedar Creek, Virginia.

The cast of characters include Aggie Hobbs, Mallory’s 60 something grandma, who expects her grand children to call her Aggie, OR ELSE! Sidekick, Kyle, reluctantly gets involved in Mallory and Aggie’s schemes that too often get him into trouble with his dad and or the law. Added to the mix is Mallory’s gift of communicating with the dearly departed. McGee swirls this around with her magical wand creating a thoroughly enchanting novel that readers won’t be able to put down.

In Book Two of the Cedar Creek Mystery series teen detective Mallory Gilmartin unravels another mind-boggling mystery in this not-so-boring little town. Someone has stolen Edna May Florentine’s priceless Ming vase. But the police handcuff the 83-year old librarian and cart her off to jail. Mallory’s plucky Grandma Aggie bails her friend out of jail with the money she saved as a down payment on opening her own tea shop. So, not only does Mallory have to find out who stole the Ming vase but she has to do it before the other interested party buys the tea shop out from under Aggie. With the clock ticking, Mallory enlists the help of Kyle, her reluctant partner in crime solving, and of course Aggie as they dig up the skeletons in the closet of yet another quirky Cedar Creek family. Once again Anne McGee combines one crime with a dollop of history and a hint of the paranormal into a winning recipe for mystery. “The Mystery of the Missing Ming” is every mystery lover’s cup of tea.
