ALBERT CORNELIS BAANTJER is the most widely read author in the Netherlands and has written more than fifty "De Kok" titles. He has also written other fiction and nonfiction and wrote a daily column in a Dutch newspaper. He was an inspector with the Amsterdam Police for thirty-eight years. Baantjer lived in Medemblik, Netherlands.

Peter van Opperdoes, has worked as a detective at station Warmoesstraat, after the death of his wife he seeks another station Raampoort where he can finish his last years as a policeman with less memories of his wife.. His new partner is a young policeman just out of the academy named Jacob. They represent together the old and new ways of policing and get to practice this when a young beautiful call girl comes to the police station about a man who has a gun from her dead fathers collection. And next she and her protector are found murdered.
Peter and Jacob have their work cut out for them. And while the case starts Peter finds himself visited by his dead wife with whom he still has plenty to talk about.

A decent new series by a legendary Dutch crime writer who has had his won successful book series that went to the cinema and a long popular TV show. Another Dutch writer has chosen to continue the Baantjer series with De Cock and Vledder.

This series opens with a rather large spoiler namely its title does give the who is the actual perpetrator, which is a bit stupid. But then again it is easy reading and never too taxing on any major cluster of brain cells . And it is so incredible Dutch and so recognisable for me, a really fun novel.

Het is Kerstmis als een prostituee bij Peter Opperdoes - die net is overgeplaatst naar bureau Raampoort - langs komt met informatie over een oude wapendiefstal. Even later wordt ze vermoord. Door de titel is het niet spannend wie de dader is maar toch was het verhaal spannend.

plot: voorspelbaar
contrast: tussen de oude Opperdoes en de jonge Jacob
inzicht: misschien hebben prostituees meer mensenkennis dan wie ook?
sfeer: sneeuw en Amsterdam
verrassend: er zit een verrassend element in maar dat zou een spoiler zijn

Helaas was voor mij door de titel van het boek al meteen duidelijk wie de moordenaar was. Voor de rest een prima boek, leest snel weg zonder veel te hoeven nadenken

This is the first book in a series which was started in 2009. For A.C. Baantjer this meant a departure from De Cock (DeKok in the English translations). But, in many aspects this new book is very similar to the previous series. Again we have an older Detective working with a much younger colleague.
Peter van Overdoes transfers from the police station in the Warmoestraat to the Raampoort one after the death of his much beloved wife.
In his new station he is partnered with Jacob. While Jacob is a great believer in the modern methods of detecting, Van Overdoes values the old fashioned ways. And there are more reasones why Jacob might be having questions about his new partners efficiency.
Van Overdoes has only arrived at his new desk when he is visited by a young, very beautiful and exclusive prostitute who reports that one of her clients has shown carrying an antigue gun which was stolen from her father years ago. The girl doesn't know the name of the clients, and is found murdered only a short while later.
The two detectives soon find themselves caught up in a cases that has far more angles then they could ever have guessed and dealing with very dark forces. They also find they have a guardian angel looking out for them.
This was a nice book. The solution wasn't a big mystery given the title of the book and the story line, but the way the two men got to the answers and learned to work together at the same time was fun.
Eventhough this is of course a police procedural, it reads more like a cozy mystery; charming and enjoyable.

? Een boekje uit de leeslichtserie, die ik zou kunnen gebruiken bij mijn gesprekken met anderstaligen...
🤔 Ik heb de tv-serie weinig gezien, maar het concept was wel bekend...zeker wel een aardig boekje met de humor erbij die een beetje hoort bij zo'n politieserie (ook internationaal), maar ik weet nog niet of ik het kan gebruiken want het zijn wel veel bladzijdes voor een anderstalige....en een detective is toch het leukste als je daar geen weken over hoeft te doen...want dan mis jij en vooral de anderstalige gewoon de clue...

Makkelijk leesbaar en herkenbaar voor degene die de Baantjer serie kent. Het is allemaal niet heel ingewikkeld of diepgravend. We maken kennis met een nieuwe hoofdfiguur en zin rechterhand en dat alles tegen de achtergrond van Amsterdam en komt af en toe het bureau aan de Warmoesstraat (het bureau van de Cock) weer tevoorschijn

Warm geschreven, aangenaam verhaal afspelende in De Jordaan in Amsterdam. Vlotte schrijfstijl van Baantjer & De Waal over twee sympathieke agenten die samen een aantal moorden oplossen. Niets hoogdravends maar een paar uur aangenaam verpozen. Goede start van een nieuwe serie!

Je noemt het boek "Een Rus in de Jordaan", maar de enige Rus die voorkomt in het plot is een dode Rus wiens internationale opsporingsberichten echter nooit officieel zijn ingetrokken. Dat zal dan wel de dader zijn. Toch?

Sander de Heer leest de boeken van De Waal&Baantjer subliem voor. Af en toe een onvervalst Amsterdams accent, maar nooit te veel.

Het minste boek uit de serie (ik lees niet op volgorde), het begint stroefjes, maar nog steeds lekker voor tussendoor!
