The Mercury Pack #1

Spiral of Need

Rate this book
Ally Marshall isn’t just a wolf shifter — she’s a Seer.

But a girl doesn’t exactly need special powers to know that Derren Hudson despises her entire kind. Disdain practically rolls off the Beta of the Mercury Pack . . . disdain mixed with a healthy dose of desire. And no matter how much the ruggedly handsome male appeals to her, this is one call of the wild she’s determined to ignore.

After one betrayal too many, Derren doesn’t have much use for Seers — except for Ally.

Forced into acting as her protector, he finds himself intensely and passionately drawn to the woman who incites his primal instinct to claim.

And when enemies target the pack, Ally’s gift may be just what the Mercury Pack needs.

Can he put his distrust aside, or will he force himself to turn his back on the one woman who makes his inner beast howl?

Re-read: 3/14/16...after watching my favorite show Bitten, I'm in a werewolf mood...

4 Solid Shifter Stars

I read my first Suzanne Wright back when Feral Sins had just arrived on Amazon - before that scene was edited out lol...

description

description

...and before I had discovered GR in 2012.

description

Well, since then, I have been "found."

description

And I have read ALL of Suzanne Wright's books and count her as one of my favorite go-to authors.

In fact, there is only one of her books that I didn't really like (looking at you Carnal Secrets) and even that I gave 3 stars and have still re-read a couple times since.

I will preface this "review" by stating this:

I personally wouldn't attempt to read this book if you haven't read The Phoenix Series first.

description

Without doing so, you might be a little lost as, 1) All the characters from those book make an appearance in this one and 2) This book might just seem mediocre to you if you haven't got the full backstory..."flavor" provided by all the other preceding books.

description

But on to Spiral of Need.

Derren is the Beta of the Mercury Pack, which we were introduced to in Books 3 and 4 of the Phoenix Pack series. Ally is a "pack hopper" and also a Seer.

See why you need to read the others?

But anyprequels, I'm just gonna be honest and say that Wright pretty much follows her "formula" as far as the male/female characterizations and plot lines go.

Derren is a domineering Alpha-male, Ally is a badass chick with an attitude, Greta gets in everyone's way and gets blasted by one-liner comebacks, and Dominic brings his cheesy come-ons with his usual sexy flair.

In other words, the wheel is by no means reinvented here.

And you know what?

description

Because.

I.

Dig.

It.

If it ain't broke, why fix it people.

And my skanky ass likes the roll of this wheel just fine.

description

I really liked Ally. She was Taryn-crazy, but had some Roni-poise and I really enjoyed her as a character. Also, she and Derren were really hot together.

My only complaints:

The Derren/Ally sexy time seemed to be a little more...rushed...and not as "in depth" as it usually is...and the plot line wasn't the strongest one I have ever seen from Wright.

But like I said:

Homie don't care.

It totally worked for me.

And I can't wait for the next one!

4 "I said that out loud, huh." Stars

"I'm just making my point that I don't trust Seers." Ally smiled gently. "Admitting your problem is the first step to recovery."

"You need to seriously rethink defying me." "And guys need to stop shoving their hands down their pants to play with their balls in public." Ally shook her head. "Some things will never change."

So Suzanne Wright is one of my favorite authors, and I love her series The Phoenix Pack. So when I heard she was doing a spin off series called The Mercury Pack, which is the new pack Nick Axton (3rd book in The Phoenix Pack series) formed with his mate, I was like Hell yeah I am so there!! Spiral of Need is the first book in the Mercury Pack series, and it is a awesome start to what I am sure with be a great series. I can't tell you how excited I got when I saw it was on NetGalley. I so did a freak out fan girl dance.

Ally, on the other hand, wanted to ask why the hell Bracken had let Jesse win. When all eyes zoomed in on her, she smiled weakly. "I said that out loud, huh,"

 photo sdjfhsdhfjshd_zps50z7zvt1.gif

"Your scent.... It makes me want to bite you."

What this book is about

Derren Hudson, Beta of the Mercury Pack always keeps his word. So when an old friend Cain calls in a favor Derren feels obligated to do it. Cain wants Derren to go get Ally Marshall from the pack she is in now that is giving her problems, and take her to The Mercury pack, and keep her under Derren's protection until Cain can get to her. The problem with that is Ally is a Seer and Derren Hates all Seers. Seers have hurt him and his pack and he doesn't trust any of them. Derren feeling that he owes Cain, goes to get Ally despite his feelings towards Seers. When he sees her not only does he want her, but his wolf is going crazy wanting to mark her. Derren feels angry about the whole situation, and confused about him and his wolf's attraction to Ally. When Ally starts having visions about danger coming to the Mercury Pack will Derren believe her or will he let his prejudice of Seers keep him from protecting his pack?

"Understand this, Ally. There is very little I consider an obstacle when I want something. And when I want something as badly as I want you, I won't let anything or anyone keep me from it. I marked you, and I don't consider that a small thing. Do you?"

 photo Derren and ally_zpsfsgvc5ss.jpg

"No. You like me pinning you down." It was a taunt that made her growl. "And you like me fucking you hard, don't you, baby? You like having my cock in you."

I love both Derren and Ally. Derren is broody, serious, and loyal to those who he cares about. Derren has been hurt badly, and deeply by his family and pack so he doesn't trust easily. Dominant, damaged, sexy , and protective he is everything you want from an alpha male hero. Ally is kind of a wanderer. Her family and pack were assassinated when she was a small child. Her and Cain are the only two that lived. She has always felt that she didn't really belong. On top of that being a Seer with all the prejudices against Seers makes her feel more like a outcast. Even with all that has happened to her, she is still a sweet, caring woman. She is brave, protective, and saucy. Being a dominant wolf she is very independent. And lets not leave out that she is totally badass.

"I'm keeping you, Ally Marshall." And she'd just have to accept it, because he wouldn't let her go "You're mine." Startled and spooked by that very sincere announcement that almost sounded....binding, Ally didn't speak for a moment. "Yours?" "All mine. You got under my skin, became my obsession. There's no going back." She swallowed nervously. "What do you want from me?" "Everything you have to give. And I'll get it."

 photo 8d64649cdb3365b7e8f95f5763b89cf7_zps9lewvxe1.jpg

"You love me?" He smiled. "Fuck yeah." "I'm glad, because it's rare for one-sided relationships to work out well." His smile widened. "Is that your very poor way of telling me you love me?" "It was pretty poor, wasn't it?"

Derren and Ally are a very cute couple. They both know what it is like to be falsely accused of something horrible and have everyone they care about turn their backs on them. Their chemistry is wild and rough. Ally and Derren are a kickass team. As a couple they support each other . They know when to push and when to give in. I think they are perfect for each other. I love that with each book you get to see more of the past characters from The Phoenix Pack series. That as a reader we get to see their characters continue to grow and add on to the story line, making me feel really connected and attached to them. I enjoyed the plot and that there is a lot of action in this book. I think this book is a great read and start to the series and I can't wait to see what happens next.

"But you forgive me for baiting him, don't you baby?" He asked Ally. Not really, but she'd have him make it up to her later with multiple orgasms. Hearing Cain and her uncles growl, Ally smiled weakly at Derren. "I said that out loud, didn't I?"

Ally Marshall is a seer (means she gets all the feels when she is around someone and has some looks at the possible future) she also happens to be a wolf shifter.
Chicago commercial photographers

She had been in a relationship with a Beta wolf named Zeke until he met his "true mate" Rachelle. Rachelle is a jealous little she bitch who makes Ally's life a living hell within her pack.
Chicago commercial photographers

Ally is pretty dominant so she gives as good as she takes...
"You are, you're jealous!"
"Of what exactly? Your manipulative streak? Your distance from reality? The voices in your head that tell you you're pretty?"

It gets so bad that Ally is taken as a favor by a neighboring pack for protection. As a favor to a fellow shifter Derren agrees to protect Ally. Even though he and most of his pack hate her kind (seers)

Ally is a pretty awesome main character though and she starts to win over the pack..and of course hottie Derren.

Guys, this book is full of the smexy times...
Chicago commercial photographers

Every time I tried to put this book down these two were at it again.
Chicago commercial photographers

I had to keep reading it of course....for science.

This is not a bad little book though. Romance with some thriller thrown into the mix with a snarky female main character. Hell's yeah.
Though sometimes I did want to say "down boy" give the girl a break.

Do you really even need a synopsis? It’s werewolf porn. That makes me say . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Not even sorry. I luuuuuuurv me some werewolves . . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Alright alright – here’s a plot summary. (If you’ve read much werewolf stuff you’ll probably recognize it.) Ally is a lone wolf (*hyuck hyuck*). Orphaned as a child she was adopted by a “foster family” who raised her and has spent her adult years moving from pack to pack. Due to a serious case of sour grapes with the Beta female of her current pack, it’s time for Ally to move on – and due to a favor owed by Mercury Pack member Derren to Ally’s foster brother Cain, it’s up to his pack to take her in and offer her protection until Cain is released from prison. There’s only one problem – Ally is not only a shifter, but also a “Seer” – and Derren has a biiiiiiig problem with Seers. You know what that means, right?????

Chicago commercial photographers

Exactly. And then . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

If you’re in to alpha males (well, technically he’s a Beta – but he likes to be in charge when it comes to quality time in the sack) and seriously taking it to pound town this one will probably be right up your alley. The plot was interesting and although I figured out early on who it was who was up to no good it kept my attention (#sploosh). Spiral of Need is also apparently a spin-off from a previous series, but there were enough snippets given regarding prior characters/scenarios that I never felt out of the mix. And as familiar as the love/hate werewolf storyline was, there were a couple of new things for me – like a gay werewolf couple. Unfortunately they were only on screen for about two pages and were only mentioned due to their love for interior decorating (way to really break the stereotype there Suzanne Wright), but at least it was acknowledged that not all werewolves would be hetero. I also learned about the most sacred gift a female were can give to her mate . . .

Wow. Didn’t expect that.

Anyway, if you’re like me and use the classification “Because He Looks Like A Werewolf” as a descriptor when speaking to your significant other, you should probably check this out. Examples of the aforementioned terminology are as follows:

SCENARIO 1

Husband: What are you watching?

Me: Teen Wolf . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

Husband: Good Christ, those boys are like 12!

Me: *too busy drooling to speak*

SCENARIO 2

Husband: Oh, you’re going to watch Big Brother with me and the kids?

Me: Yeah, Austin looks like he could be a werewolf . . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

SCENARIO 3

Husband: You’ve been listening to The Killers a lot lately.

Me: Yeah, Brandon Flowers looks like a very metrosexual werewolf . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

SCENARIO 4

Husband: You’re going to watch the Royals game?!?!?!?!

Me: They’re playing the Orioles. Manny Machado looks like a baby werewolf . . .

Chicago commercial photographers

SCENARIO 5

Husband: Honey that Volkswagen commercial with the werewolf-looking-mofo is on again.

Me: BEST. HUSBAND. EVER!!!!!

I am a great fan of Suzanne Wright since reading her Deep in Your Veins Series.

Spiral of Need is the 1st book in the Mercury Pack Series, a spinoff from her other shifter series, The Phoenix Pack, which I haven’t read yet. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I would have liked to have read the Phoenix Pack series before to know more about the characters from it that make appearances in this book. However, the author gives us quite a bit of back-story on the characters and their stories which is interwoven rather well into this book’s story.

Ally Marshall a Seer wolf-shifter, gifted with the ability to see the future finds herself in a dangerous position with her pack after being falsely accused of acts she never committed. When Cain, her closest childhood friend presently incarcerated for some infringement and unable to rescue Ally, calls on a friend to keep Ally safe until he’s released.

Derren Hudson, the Mercury Pack’s Beta wolf is not exactly happy with his friend’s request but he feels obligated to agree as he owes Cain a favor. Not only does Derren distrust all Seers but most of the Mercury Pack members as well. He has to deal with Ally’s uncertainty with the move and also convince his pack to accept her temporarily.

Despite his dislike for Ally at first, he finds himself unwillingly attracted to her.
 photo download_zpsqz484ajy.jpg
He’s impressed with her strength and independence and the way she cares for those who are in pain.

Ally is the kind of heroine I adore! She’s caring, honest, strong, kick-ass, takes no sh@@@ from anyone and is not afraid to speak her mind and sensitive. photo mqdefault_zpsida6lolz.jpg
She’s always been a loner. She can’t be with large crowds for too long as she can pick up everyone’s future in her head, which becomes overwhelming and painful. But the more time she spends with Derren, the more she begins to like and respect him, even enjoying their time together.

The relationship between the two builds slowly as they get to know each other. The way Derren convinced or tried to for Ally to see that there is more to life…..
 photo images_zpsoun6l5vz.jpg
Derren has never been the touchy and affectionate kind of guy with people, but with Ally- possessive, protective and he wants her.
“I'm keeping you, Ally Marshall." And she'd just have to accept it, because he wouldn't let her go "You're mine."
Startled and spooked by that very sincere announcement that almost sounded....binding, Ally didn't speak for a moment. "Yours?"
"All mine. You got under my skin, became my obsession. There's no going back."
She swallowed nervously. "What do you want from me?"
"Everything you have to give. And I'll get it.”

 photo pic-no-2_zps0zfmby9b.gif
Their sexual chemistry and the build-up to finally giving in to their attraction was pretty awesome…
 photo EROTIC-3252_zps58756p78.jpg
The dialogue and banter between them and with the other characters is witty and beyond sparkly!!!!

I loved the secondary characters. They were engaging and totally appealing. I enjoyed the connection between the different packs and the sense of family and loyalty and protectiveness they feel for each other.

This was a good start to her new series and I am rather looking forward to the next book….in the meantime, I am going to get straight into the Phoenix Pack Series!!!!

It's been a while since I've read a Suzanne Wright book, and I've totally forgotten how entertaining her stories and her characters are. Spiral of Need is the first book from her Mercury Pack series, which spin off of her Phoenix Pack series. And based on what I've read from this book, I'd say this series is off to a good start.

Ally Marshall isn't just a shifter, she's a seer too. After being driven off out of her old pack by a jealous mate, Ally had no choice but to accept shelter from Derren Hudson, beta shifter of the Mercury Pack, even though Derren and most of the Mercury shifters hate seers like her. Derren for his part can't say no because he owes a favor to one of the members of Ally's foster family. Despite Derren's prejudice against seers, he was taken aback by his attraction to Ally and vice versa. More so with the fact that Ally isn't quite the monster they thought she is. She's loyal, capable, and she doesn't abuse her gifts unlike most seers he knew.

Ally for her part, just wants to belong. Because of the prejudice of other shifters against seers like her, she's learned to isolate herself from the pact. But the longer she stayed with the Mercury pack, the more she wants to stay and belong. Of course, she's also very attracted to Derren and no amount of self-preservation could temper their blazing attraction to each other.

Derren and Ally's chemistry was one of the reasons I enjoyed this book a lot. Despite Derren's prejudice, he can't seems to stop himself from craving Ally. Seeing their feelings grow and the way they tried to fight against it was fun to read. The conflict as a whole, between the Mercury Pack and the person behind the attacks on the pack wasn't very strong but it was developed enough that it held my attention. Although, the reveal was a bit anti-climactic for me. The secondary conflict with Ally's old pack was better developed. I personally enjoyed the "trial by combat" between Ally and a former pack mate.

Overall, a very enjoyable and fun read. I read it straight through. The humor wasn't as prominent as Feral Sins but I didn't mind because the steam factor more than made up for the lack of humor. If you're looking for something light and fun, I'd recommend this book.

Me LIKE.

But.

BUT.

I do sense a pattern.
Why break what works, right? :D

This is my third book by Suzanne Wright and I do have to say there are definite similarities in all of them.

✔A kickass dominate female who takes no shit from males.
✔A hero afraid of love and bonding.
✔Crazy sex with lots of biting.
✔A wtf true-mate-bond-snapping moment.

Did I cover it all? :D

Oh, and of course this:

With that said, I am planning to read the latest installment of this series Force of Temptation (The Mercury Pack, #2) by Suzanne Wright . But I do think I need a break because it's getting a bit repetitive.

So I will save it for a day when the mood strikes. :)

~4.5 I NEED MORE NOW STARS~

description

Spiral of Need is another winner by Werewolf PRN Author Suzanne Wright! She has a formula for her alpha males and leading ladies that always draws me in and holds me captive until the last word is consumed!

description

As Spiral of Need begins, Ally "a seer" (a shifter wolf who has the ability to see the future) finds herself in a precarious predicament with her pack. She has been wrongly accused of injuring her BETA wolf. She is facing judgement and severe bullying by her pack mates. When Ally's childhood friend Cain hears about her troubles, he makes a call to an old friend.

Derren is the BETA wolf of the Mercury Pack. He receives word of Ally's plight. Although he is not a big fan of seers, Derren feels obligated to help her out. After he convinces his pack to take her in, he brings Ally home with him. He plans on watching over her until Cain is able to come and get her. Derren feels loyalty to his friend but is leery of Ally! To his surprise, she is equally as concerned with HIS presence.

"Remember: don't think about running. You wouldn't get far anyway. I have your scent."-Derren

"Let me assure you that if at any point I do decide to leave here, that's exactly what I'll do. But I won't run. I'll walk right on out of here while you watch."-Ally

Ally and Derren are an anomaly. Although Derren has a dislike for Ally's type, he is still drawn to her because she is a strong shifter wolf. Ally is a bit of a loner and yet, she finds herself enjoying Derren's company. The relationship builds at a decent tempo and the dialogue is full of witty banter between the two.

description

In true Suzanne Wright fashion, we have a heavy dosage of maximum steam. The sexual tension between Derren and Ally doesn't last too long. They quickly recognize that they are attracted to one another and additionally, they are very compatible.

"He kept her so flush against him, it was almost hard to breathe. His hands were firm, purposeful, and possessive as they roved and clutched her hard enough to bruise."

If you have read a Wright book before, you might be wondering if they Derren and Ally are "true mates". Part of the "extra" surprise with this read is the fun of trying to figure that out!

"Understand this, Ally. There is very little I consider an obstacle when I want something. And when I want something as badly as I want you, I won't let anything or anyone keep me from it."-Derren

description

Spiral of Need brings back some favorite characters from the Phoenix Pack as well as giving readers the opportunity to get to know the shifter wolves of the Mercury Pack! Ms. Wright offers a perfect blend of action, passion, and romance! PRN lovers beware~this series is bound to be just as addictive as the first! If you are a fan of "possessive alphas", Derren will give you everything you are looking for!

"He bit her. Just leaned down and sank his teeth into the crook of her neck, making Ally gasp in shock and pleasure. At the same time, his hand snaked under her T-shirt and closed around her breast; it was a hold so possessive, she reflexively growled in warning despite how good it felt. He released a growl of his own, rebelliously gripper her tighter."

description

Told in dual POV with narration, Spiral of Need can be read as a stand alone! The characters are complex and well developed. Any (and all) background knowledge was covered well so rest assured you will get the full experience when you pick up this book.

description

Overall, I highly recommend this read! I thoroughly enjoy Ms. Wright's writing style, strong alpha males, and their equally strong female counter parts. The action, romance, and steamy scenes will keep you engaged the entire read! Now, I just have to wait patiently for the next shifter story! Well done, Ms. Wright! Well done!

Audio "re-read" 9/18/19. - I devoured this audio! I couldn't evens top once the work day was over, I kept listening at home all night too.

Very important public announcement: Derren Hudson is mine, ladies! Paws off!

Spiral of Need is the first book in The Mercury Pack series, which is a spin-off of The Phoenix Pack series. It's not necessary to read The Phoenix Pack first, but I recommend it since those characters are also in this book.

Ally Marshall's pack is starting to turn against her. Her ex-boyfriend found his mate who is now Beta female, and also jealous of Ally. She accuses Ally of of attempted murder and tells the rest of the pack that Ally is jealous and lashing out. Now, Ally is in an unsafe situation and scared her Pack will fully turn on her and banish her.

Derren Hudson owe's a friend a favor, and he gives his word that he will pay it back. But when the favor that his friend wants is to take Ally away from her pack and protect her, he has to seriously think about turning his back on his friend. Ally is a seer, and ever since Derren was betrayed by a seer he has sworn to never trust their kind again. But he's a man of his word so he goes to Ally and gives her his protection. He never thought he would feel a connection to the seer, though, and isn't sure if he can fight the pull of her magnetic stare.

This was an amazing story and I loved seeing all the past characters from The Phoenix Pack series and getting caught up with them. Suzanne Wright is fast becoming my favorite paranormal author and I can't wait to see what she gives us next. The pack members are like a close family and I love the connection they all share. Each member is really different from the other's and they all have their own little quirks so it's great to see how they come together and somehow just fit perfectly.

I loved Derren and thought he was a wonderful character. He was super loyal to those he cared about and especially if he felt like he owed them, he would go out of his way to pay them back. He lost his pack when they turned their back on him when he was young, and he never really got over that. He has made his own family though and I thought it was great that he was able to find the right people for him.

Derren and Ally made a kick ass, yet adorable, couple and I thought they were perfect for each other. They both had past hurts that kept them from fully investing themselves in a relationship but their connections was just too strong to resit. Oh boy, did they try though. It took a lot for Derren to get over his hate of seer's but he quickly realized that Ally was different from all the others. It was great to see him come to that realization and how he admitted his own faults from thinking that.

Ally was a really strong character and I loved that she could fight like a bad ass. People were after her and the Mercury Pack but she never backed down from the fight. I really admired that about her. She suited Derren really well and they shared such heat, it was scorching right off of the pages.

Overall, loved the characters, loved the story, loved the suspense. Anyone looking for a sexy, intense shifter book stop whatever it is you're doing and read this book. (Well, when it's actually published hehe)

★★★★ 4 It's-Suzanne-Wright-! stars ;) ★★★★

First let me start of by saying that, when I first found out SPIRAL OF NEED had finally came out.I was psyched ! In fact so psyched, that I literally dropped everything and pulled an all-nighter for this read as soon as got the book in my hands.

At 12 am I was like,"Sleep ? What’s that ? My darlings! Ain't nobody got time for that !"

Lol l’m happy to say I really enjoyed the read. Suzanne Wright’s paranormals have always be an auto-buy for me from the moment I fell in love with her characters and story writing style when I first read her Deep in your veins series.

Ill admit I'm not huge fan of her Werewolf series as opposed to her vampire and Demon series. But since I’ve read all her books I was defiantly excited to read more of her work and re-visit old characters, that I fell in love with in the Phoenix Pack series.

My Thoughts on the book:
Spiral of need was a great one-time read. And I say one time because even though I really did enjoy the writing and the hot chemistry between two main leads.I found the plot-line slightly lacking and weak in comparison to her usual flavor.

Oh yes, don't get me wrong ! There was hell loads of action, great characters and awesome dialogues. But just not enough to give the rating an extra oomph to reach a 5.

My Thoughts on the characters:
I really enjoyed Amy & Derren..I think they're both two great addition to SW's Pack World.I liked the fact that they had strong back-stories that shaped their characters in the plot making them unique from the previous characters but at the same time, similar enough to easily fit in with the rest of the old pack.

I adored both the charterer's individually as well.I loved how AMY (like all other Suzanne Wright's female leads) stayed dominant, sassy and hilarious throughout the read.

While Derren(the male lead) stayed HOT,SEXY,AND AMAZING to the very end. *WINK,WINK*

Honestly its amazing how all her male leads get me to say..

A yes to that as well :)

*Finger's crossed* I know Cain doesn't belong to the Mercury pack .But I really do hope he gets his own book one day...there's something about his character that I really intrigued me.I would love to read how his story goes.

All my re-read has proved is that Wright is a fab author, her books will have you absorbed even when re-reading.

Ally is a fab heroine, has she been through a ton of crap – yes, but none of that has weakened her spirit or stopped her from being a super strong, sassy woman who doesn’t let others bull hinder her. Her comebacks to others had me smiling/smirking and cheering her on.

Derren Hudson, Beta of the Mercury Pack initially came across as an honourable cold ass, but we see through his focus on and interactions with Ally that there’s a lot hidden behind his controlled veneer.

Both have gone through a lot and share similar experiences e.g. being of accused of things they haven’t done and seeing those they care about turning on them.

As a couple they so work. The chemistry between the two simmers of the page.

I also enjoyed once again seeing characters that I’d already been introduced to in previous books, and when it comes to Cain (Ally’s childhood protector and brother in all but blood) I hope there will be a book somewhere in the future where he takes the lead – that is sure to be one hell of a ride.

“hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

Ally Marshall is a seerer with no pack and no home, all because of one jealous she-bitch who decided to make her life a living hell. She gets put in the hands of Derren, beta wolf of the Mercury Pack, only he's not so thrilled of the babysitting duty, but it's a request he isn't willing to deny.

Pretty much disliked by the entire Mercury pack, with the exception of the alpha female, Ally keeps to herself not wanting to rock any more boats. But as a new threat appears, her gift that they hate is the one that ends up saving life after life.

Dislike becomes curiosity,
"I’ll share with you, and you’ll share with me.”

which turns into one night and then into something more.
"You got under my skin, became my obsession. There’s no going back.”

“What do you want from me?”

“Everything you have to give.”

Blinded by distrust and lust, they can't see what's in front of them all along...
“Stop looking at the world through guarded glasses for just one minute, baby. Listen to your instincts. Don’t think...Feel.”

Spiral of Need brings us back to the wolves that have a special place in my reading heart, Ms. Wright is amazing in her tales giving us the primal need for control and submission. Derren isn't like most hero's, he doesn't spend time trying to be likable, he just is who he is with no care as to what others think of him. Ally is a strong she-wolf, one to respect and one to root for especially in a fight. What I liked about these two is that they have everything it takes to be an alpha, but they are more than content with the roles they play in the pack, making everyones safety their priority.

Their connection was hesitant at first, making for some interesting foreplay, but once they gave into their need, they go all in. I swooned, I laughed, loved and wanted to kick some ass, so I think it's safe to say I very much enjoyed their story. The thing with series like this, is that we get to visit with past couples we laughed and fell in love with, making the read much more enjoyable. There are so many other wolves left to claim, wonder whose book is next.

Title: Spiral of Need
Series: (The Mercury Pack #1)
Author: Suzanne Wright
Release Date: September 29, 2015
Rating: 3 stars
Cliffhanger:. No
HEA:

"I'm keeping you, Ally Marshall." And she'd just have to accept it, because he wouldn't let her go "You're mine."

Suzanne Wright can write about some smokin’ hot alphas who can get me all hot and bothered after few pages. That’s why most of the time I am in love with paranormal books written by this author. The sex is scorching, the hero possessive yet swoon worthy and the plot is usually complex enough to be entertaining yet without over the top drama. And yes the first book in The Mercury Pack series shares the same qualities. So I guess I should be all over it, yet I didn’t feel the connection with this story. I will admit that I was lost through most of this book – I liked it, I found it enjoyable and quick read, but my heart and mind was just somewhere else. I couldn’t focus on Ally and Derren.

Something didn’t quite sit well with me. I guess it’s one of those times when I just doesn’t click with the book and there is nothing that could have change it. Maybe it was my poor mood? Or maybe I was just too distracted with other things to connect well with the story and its main characters? However, I strongly believe that fans of Suzanne Wright’s novels will appreciate Ally and Derren’s romance fully.

"Your scent.... It makes me want to bite you."

I think I will have to give the next installment a better chance. I hope I will be in better mood by then and will be able to appreciate the sexiness of The Mercury Pack men one hundred percent.

Whoa!!! That was a hell of a ride!!!!

I love paranormal books and i love all the unearthy creatures... I also love romance and adventure...
And what about wolves???? They are such amazing creatures!!!
This book had all the above and much more...
I hade a while to read this kind of book and that was the best way to read this genre again!!!
I loved everything in there... Everything and i'm so satisfied!!!

The story had me all the time on edge... It surprised me in every level...
I loved the storyline and i loved the characters.... All of them!!!
And believe me when i'm saying that they were too many... I think that i met people from 4 or 5 different packs... but Mercury pack was the best!!!

Now, i'm bounded to read Phoenix pack, since i haven't read it yet and since i've met almost everyone from there... and i'm so eager for them... Soon, very soon!!!

But now i have to focus on Ally and Derren!!!
I just have to warn you that many things had happened and i can't reveal you too much...

"Remember: don't think about running. You wouldn't get far anyway. I have your scent."
Her voice hardened. "Let me assure you that if at any point I do decide to leave here, that's exactly what I'll do. But I won't run. I'll walk right on out of here while you watch."

Ally Marshall hadn't an easy life... From her youngest years she had to change pack after pack since she lost her own when she was still very young...
In the latest pack that she had join she is facing too many problems...
They accusing her that she was trying to kill a woman even though that this accusation isn't true at all and all the other wolves are treated her with malice.
Now Ally is feeling angry, isolated and disrespectful...

Derren Hudson is the Beta of Mercury pack and when an old friend asking him a big favor he can't refuse, since he owns him, but his being is against that action. But he has no choice. He has to protect Ally Marshall, even though she is a Seer. So he is taking her to his pack for a while...

Ally feels happy that she is finally away from her previous pack but she still feels isolated from the new one... Everyone is suspicious for her behalf and she feels awkard and strange...
Almost everyone is this pack had issues with a Seer and they can't accepted her so easily.
And Derren is the worst of them all... She feels his hatred in her bones...
But as the time is passing and after many attempts against the pack, the other wolves are starting to get to know her and to respect her...

As for Derren??? As much as he wants to stay away from her, he just can't... Something is drowing him toward Ally. Something strong and primal and irresistable...
But the same goes for Ally. She wants him and even though she can't aloud to herself to come very close to him, it's impossible...

Will they resist to that pull or will they become slaves of this passion???
And what they are feeling is just passion or is it something much more???
Will the pack fully accept Ally??? And who is hiding behind all this killing attempts against Mercury and Phoenix pact???
And Ally's problems are over from her previous pack or will they follow her there too???
Our heroes have lots of problems to face and this ride was amazing!!!

Ally was a badass heroine. She was strong, indepented, clever and really funny.
Seers were having a bad reputations and that's because of their power. Many of them took advantage of that power, but not Ally. You're propably wonder what means to be a Seer... It is when you have premonitions of the future. But Ally had another power too. She could sense the feelings around her and that power many times was difficult to bare. So she prefered to be isolated, but she needed people around her. She was a dominant wolf and she wasn't good at following orders. She and her wolf was in absolute harmony and both of them were drowing toward Derren. The only thing that she was longing was acceptance and respect...

Derren was a dominant wolf himself. He was a Beta on his pack but he wasn't so happy about that!!! His past wasn't good also. Because of a mean Seer his life was destroyed and that was the reason why he was so suspicious toward Ally. For the first moment the pull toward her was too big and he didn't know what to do about that. He started to feel lust, passion and protectiveness about Ally and when he finally make her his, his situation was crazy. He was a possessive, protective bastard but i really liked that side of him. He was cute!!! He couldn't stand anyone around Ally, especially a male...

Those two together were absolute perfection. They fit so good together... Everything was intense and primal with those two... Even though when they were making sex, it was like they were fighting who will dominate above the other and that was very interesting to witness...

"I'm keeping you, Ally Marshall."
And she'd just have to accept it, because he wouldn't let her go.
"You're mine."
Startled and spooked by that very sincere announcement that almost sounded... binding, Ally didn't speak for a moment.
"Yours?"
"All mine. You got under my skin, became my obsession. There's no going back."
She swallowed nervously.
"What do you want from me?"
"Everything you have to give. And I'll get it."

I also have to say that i really liked all the other members of the pack. They were so united!
Their bond was full of loyalty, respect and appreciation. They were watching each other back and they were there for everything that anybody needs... And i liked the way they embraced Ally when the suspicion fade away...

I never want to stop reading about those guys!!! I like them so much!!!

I didn’t think I would like books about shifters, but I do!

I have read all the Phoenix Pack books and I am now onto the Mercury Pack and am still really enjoying these books. The romance is hot, the stories are good and they hold my interest. There is so much steam and humor. I certainly can’t get enough of Dominic. I will keep reading.

Dominic was just about to get into the Chevy when he shouted, “Hey, Ally, do you know the difference between a hamburger and a blow job?” At her frown, he asked, “No? Wanna have lunch sometime?”

His hunger for her wasn't soft or tame or romantic. It was vicious, sharp edged, and biting. It was raw desperation that had teeth and claws, and it had him in a tight grip.

Spiral of Need is the spin off series from Suzanne Wright's Phoenix Pack series. And while it's book 1 in this new series, I'd highly recommend starting with Phoenix Pack first because there's a lot of interconnecting characters and readers coming into this without having read the other series first may find themselves lost. Although there is plenty of background given on the story, reading Phoenix Pack first will simply give a much needed background on certain situations in the story and the characters that take place here.

I've been a huge fan of this author since I first read Feral Sins, and while none of the other books have lived up to the greatness of the first, I still find myself gravitating towards them when I'm craving a fun and super sexy PNR book.

Ally Marshall is a wolf shifter and a seer. Her kind isn't exactly revered in the shifter community, but her current predicament with her pack has less to do with that and more to do with a psychotic mate of her ex boyfriend. Calling in a favor, Ally finds herself under the protection of the Mercury Pack, where she seems to be even less welcome for her seer abilities, though without a psycho female determined to drive her crazy at every corner.

Derren Hudson despises her kind, and with good reason too. A seer once cost him everything. But a favor to a friend finds him protecting her while realizing that the burning lust he feels whenever he's near her won't go ignored for long.

Spiral of Need is nothing new that I haven't read from this author before, but no less entertaining. You have yourself a sassy, kick-ass heroine and a domineering male. A whole lot of fun banter and all the favorites from the previous books making an appearance.
She likes to see me in pain. She's a sadist."
"My daughter is NOT a sadist." Shay took her daughter with a playful huff.
"She shoved a breadstick up Greta's nose."
"Because she senses evil."
Darren blinked. "I can't argue with that."

The one thing that did intrigue me quite a bit here was the introduction of a few secondary characters that I'm really hoping will be getting their own book soon. ESPECIALLY one particular sociopath. What can I say? I love me the crazy ones.

Full of action, snarky banter, and sizzling steam, Spiral of Need definitely hit the spot and I can't wait for more in this series.

This is a great romance and a great wolf shifter action story. There are two main plots, and one of them is something I've wondered about before. In this universe, shifters have fated mates. Sometimes they don't meet, though. As this author writes it, the shifters can fall in love with someone and become so close they imprint and mate. Some think it is wrong not to wait for their fated mate and so resist imprinting and don't think well of others who imprint. This story starts with a female wolf shifter who was in a relationship and maybe almost imprinted, but her lover then met his fated mate and left her. She was adult about it and stepped aside with no interference in the mating. But, the new mate is out to get her--she totally ruins the life of her mate's old flame. This is one of the main conflicts of the story and I really like how it was handled in the story. I loved how crazy the bad female was, and she really managed to cause a lot of problems. Don't worry though, there is a new male for our abandoned lady wolf and I like him much better than the one she gave up.
If you have read the Phoenix Pack series you will recognize a lot of characters and get to see what is happening with them.
It is a great action story and especially a romance.

Absolutely loved this one....but I kinda knew I would. All the books I've read by this author has been a big hit for me.

Ally is the seer in her pack. This means she gets visions and she can heal. She has been in a relationship for some time with the beta of her pack, Zeke. They aren't true mates and when Zeke's true mate shows up, she gets dumped.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor dumped gif

Now, this is all completely normal since true mates always come first, so Ally, even though a bit upset, totally understands, because that's just how it is for shifters. Zeke's true mate, however, doesn't understand how things work and she does everything she can, to make Ally's life a living hell within her own pack, even though Ally stepped back. Trouble is that all the packmates believe the royal bitch's lies and side with her.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor such a bitch gif

When things become a bit too dangerous for Ally, Cain, her best friend who is currently incarcerated, calls in a favor with Derrin. The beta of the Mercury pack, Derrin, owes Cain and therefore Cain makes him take Ally to his pack, to keep her safe until Cain gets out of prison and can take care of her himself.

Derrin is not too happy about this because he hates seers, actually, everybody in the pack hates seers.... everyone but Shayla that is. They still decide to give her chance, because they know how much Derrin owes Cain.

Now I won't say more, because I think you just have to read it, but of course, a lot of shit goes down.

What I will say, is that the sexual tension between Ally and Derrin is delicious :)

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor let's talk about sex gif

I agree with some people, who said that Ally's character was a mix between Roni and Taryn ("The Phoenix Pack" ). I really liked her, she was awesome and kicked ass. Derrin is, of course, a dark and brooding alpha male. Once he knew what he wanted, he was all in... and there was no stopping him.

tumblr_mxcbbsb0JJ1snc48co1_500.gif (500×213)

The steam was awesome, but I have to say I liked it better in some of the other books because the scenes in this one were a bit shorter. The storyline was very entertaining.

I do have to say that I would not advise anyone to read this as a stand alone. It can get confusing if you don't know the characters from the previous books and what has happened in the past. So I would just say...go ahead and start book 1, "Feral Sins" of the Phoenix Pack and read them all !!

I can't wait for the next one and I hope there will be many more books in both series ;)

Okay, okay!! I see you Mercury Pack!! I didn't think I could love you as much as Phoenix (because I'm not a huge fan of Nick), but you proved me wrong!

And let me just say, Cain better get a freaking book.. Because I have a mad crush on his psychotic ass!! I know, I have been questioning my sanity recently too.

On to the main couple. They were both, as always with a SW book, awesome and hilarious. Derren intrigued me in Roni's book, so I'm so glad we started with him. (Yes, I know he was in Nick's, but I skipped that one). I love that he went after Ally even though he was worried about his friendship with Cain, her pull was too much.

“I'm keeping you, Ally Marshall.” And she'd just have to accept it, because he wouldn't let her go. “You're mine.”

Ally was one of the best character heroines. She was super dominant, but she wasn't flashy about it. Perfect Beta material. Together they were an incredible couple!

“Sorry, I don’t take orders unless I’m naked.”

It was nice to not have a huge "pack battle" in this book. Don't get me wrong there was action and drama, it just didn't involve car crashes and huge wars.

“I’m going to piss you off a lot, Ally. I’m going to mess up, say the wrong things, be crazy jealous, and annoy the shit out of you with how overprotective and interfering I can be. But I’ll never take you for granted, never purposely hurt you, and never betray you in any sense of the word—I swear that to you.”

But don't worry, them alphas had plenty of time to come barging in to save the day!

Re-read 2nd - 3rd December 2020

Once again I’m late to this party so I’ll keep it brief.

I really enjoyed this book. One of things you’re guaranteed with this author is a strong female lead. And that in itself makes it worth reading her books. We also get a strong alpha (or beta male) and some sarcastic humour.

Ally is a great character. A shifter and a seer. The problem is most shifters hate seers and with good reason. Ally finds resentment, hate and mistrust whenever she encounters someone new. But life in her existing pack has become untenable and so she accepts the reluctant offer to temporarily join the Mercury pack.
And again she’s bombarded with negative feelings when she enters their land. These feeling alone are hard for a seer to deal with. So she keeps herself away.

Derren hates seers with good reason. The one from his old pack ruined his life and took everything away from him. But when a friend collects the favour he owes he has no choice but to look after Ally.

What starts as an obligation soon turns into something more. Derren, Ally and their wolves all want each other but can they let go of their past hurts in order to move forward?

I loved the Deep in Your Veins series and Dark in You is one of my favourite ever all time reads. So yes I love this author’s books. But not all of them. I quit after the third Phoenix Pack so the question is do I move onto book two or do I re-read (yet again) Dark in You?
Because while this book was enjoyable it wasn’t Harper and Knox. The bar has been set pretty high.

You know who writes good PNR books? Suzanne Wright. You know what you are if you like PNR and don’t give her books a try? You are missing out is what. She packs action, steamy romance, alpha males and great humour into every one of her books.

I loved Ally and Derren, even when they didn’t like each other I still loved their banter. And once they realized they were true mates they become cute as hell. They both took each other completely as they were. Never once did they try to change each other and they both jumped into their relationship and never let anything or anyone cause doubts about their feelings for each other.

A big part of the story is the hate that Ally gets for being a seer and even though it made me want to punch everyone, even Derren at times, I thought that the message the author was portraying is one that is very important. People hating people for things they have no control over, things that make them who they are, is wrong on every level. But I thought Ally handled it all beautifully and she has definitely worked her way into my heart.

I’m looking forward to more from this series and any other books Suzanne Wright releases. She is an amazing author that I highly recommend to everyone!

For the first book of a new series this should come with a warning that you must read the The Phoenix Pack series first otherwise you will be completely lost. Heck, I've read most of the series except the last book and I still felt confused at certain points.

That's not saying that the book wasn't good or that I didn't enjoy it,just that it was very heavily reliant on past events particularly from Dark Instincts, the fourth book of the Phoenix Pack, as well as having basically everyone from the rest of the books in it. It's been a while since I read them so I struggled to remember and place everyone.

description

I really enjoyed reading Ally. She was a strong woman with exceptional gifts as Seer. I felt her frustration and how difficult it is to be prejudiced against simply for being what you are. A lot of interesting aspects that I wouldn't have minded reading more of. She has a lot of similarities with the other Suzanne Wright heroines but her gift and how she dealt with her situation made her stand out.

Derren along with everyone else begins the book with extreme bias towards Ally. Slowly with just being herself Ally shows them how wrong they are to judge others with no proof of wrongdoing. Derren also has a tragic past which serves to bond the two of them even more. When the attraction between them finally comes to a head it was explosive and hot though I do wish one or two scenes didn't fade to black. I would have loved to read all the spanking details rather than just vaguely knowing it happened. But then I'm just greedy.

description

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book even though it felt more like a Phoenix Pack book 5. It was great seeing how the other couples were doing and the new additions to their families, even Greta didn't annoy me too much in this. It was just a touch overwhelming though. If you pick this up make sure you've read the whole of the other series and if it's been a while definitely brush up a bit on who is who.

Liked this much more on reread and increased my rating.

Original comments:

3.25

It was good but not as strong as the Phoenix Pack books. I liked Derren (and I did not think I would) and I liked Ally a lot. She was pretty badass, but also very caring and funny.

I loved seeing Shaya and Nick and baby Willow. But also catching up with the Phoenix pack.

The story was good and moved along pretty well. The chemistry between the MCs was pretty hot. But because they were not emotionally committed for so long I just did not connect with them as much as I had hoped.

Ally's ex drama was an interesting storyline, but the other suspense plot was a bit disappointing. I kind of expected a more sinister villain.

I would love a book about Cain! Give me a psycho any day!!!

BTW - does anyone know who won the staredown between Nick and Kye? Cute scene but I am really curious!

Another good beginning to a wolf pack series!

Ally Marshall, a wolf shifter and seer, faces trouble when her ex-boyfriend finds his mate, who begins causing problems for her. Knowing she should leave her pack, Ally decides to join a new one.

Derren Hudson, the Beta of the Mercury Pack, is loyal and determined. Despite his distrust of seers, he can’t refuse a friend’s request to help Ally.

Ally and Derren are drawn to each other, but both are hesitant to pursue a relationship without trust. As the Mercury Pack faces multiple attacks, can they move forward together? And can Ally’s gift as a seer protect them from the dangers ahead?

Ally is another compelling heroine crafted by Suzanne Wright. The Mercury Pack characters are engaging, making their books appealing. With witty banter between Ally and Derren and plenty of action, Spiral of Need is a fast-paced read.

Cliffhanger: No

Thank you Fei for the rec. 😘

I absolutely loved it. I don't know why it took me so long to read this for some reason I thought I wouldn't like it even though I saw plenty of my friends that they've liked it.
I loved the heroine, she was very strong and awesome and I also loved the hero.

I'm not going to write safety info because most of my GR friends have already read it but OWs or OM drama did not bother me at all.

Can't wait to read the next one!!

Ally is a shifter, but also a Seer, a person who receives visions about the future. Unfortunately, being a Seer makes Ally the victim of prejudices because a few Seers have abused their powers. This is not why she needs to switch packs, though. Ally was involved with another shifter, Zeke, to the point of imprinting because they wanted to be together in spite of not being mates, but then Zeke’s mate was discovered. Ally graciously stepped aside with her heart a little broken, but she genuinely wished Zeke happy. Zeke’s mate, Rachelle, wasn’t so nice. Rachelle maneuvered and manipulated until it wasn’t safe for Ally to stay in their pack any longer.

Derren has no love for Seers, because one nearly destroyed his life. When an old friend calls in a favor: stash Ally away and protect her, Derren has no choice but to take her in, but he doesn’t trust her. Doesn’t mean he can ignore the magnetic pull she immediately has on him. But Ally starts gaining the respect and trust of Derren and the whole pack when her visions thwart enemies and save lives.

I’ve been a fan of Suzanne Wright’s shifter series from the very beginning. She has a fun, sexy take on the shifter dynamics, and blends that in with some exciting action and danger. Ally and Derren’s relationship was filled with sizzling chemistry, but I enjoyed seeing their trust and friendship develop as well. As usual, Ms. Wright writes some sinfully sexy scenes, and I love the possessive and obsessive nature of Ally and Derren’s romance, typical of shifter romances:

“I’d always figured that love was sappy and gooey. But it’s not.” What he felt for Ally was a feral, hissing, clawing, boundless emotion that probably should have scared him but didn’t.

Spiral of Need
officially takes us into the Mercury Pack series although many of the stories from the Phoenix Pack series involved members from this pack, and they still are closely entwined. Especially now that Nick, the Alpha of the Mercury Pack and Trey, the Alpha of the Phoenix Pack are “blooded”. We get to “see” a lot of characters from the Phoenix Pack series, and I love the combination. Plus, this story just wouldn’t feel right without a cheesy pickup line from Dominic!

Dominic smiled at Ally: “If you were my homework, I’d do you on the table.”

Lol!

4 “Who knew Derren would turn out so sexy” Stars

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for a review.

So, first let’s make one thing very clear here: Suzanne Wright is The Queen of shifter romance. Period. Full-stop. The end. If you’re into incredibly sexy werewolves, and seriously hot schmexy scenes, you know you need to get this book. And fast! I do recommend if you’re new to Suzanne Wright’s books, that you begin with the Phoenix Pack series. Both the Mercury Pack and the Phoenix Pack series are related. So, it’s just better to start with the very beginning of the story.

In a series where there are literally a gazillion characters, and every single one will have their own story, it’s easy for an author to unfortunately do the same thing over and over again. However, that doesn’t happen in Suzanne Wright’s books. She always manages to make them somehow different. Each couple has a different complicity, each character has a little something different that differentiates them from the rest. What does that mean? It means it never gets boring for the reader. So, for that, I applaud you, Suzanne Wright.

I think it’s safe to say I really liked this book. I literally devoured it. The pages were turning on their own, the story was unfolding perfectly and I found myself being a very, very satisfied reader. The plot line was, as always, really good. I wanted to know what came next, I wanted to know when secrets and lies would be uncovered, and most importantly, it’s a shifter romance we’re talking about, I wanted to know when they would mate. Because let’s be honest for a second, isn’t that what’s interesting? At least, that’s my ultimate reason for ever reading shifter romance. And speaking of mating; Suzanne Wright never, and I mean never, disappoints. If you want sizzling sensuality, raw need and some, dare I say, excessively –but we wouldn’t take them any other way- possessive males, get on the wagon and read this book. Plus, her books are always hilarious, so, who doesn't like that?

I liked the pace of the book, it was fast, captivating, and attention worthy. I mean, I read this book in a couple of hours, everyone could put two and two together and understand that’s the proof of a good book. Warning, once you get caught up in the Suzanne Wright’s wagon, it’s hard to get out of it. It’s addictive, once you read one, you’ll want more. And more. And always more. If you absolutely don’t want to get crazily obsessive over an author, don’t read her books. You’ve been warned.

The protagonists of Spiral of Need were for me a surprise. I’ll be honest and say that when I saw it was Derren’s story, I wasn’t doing any sorts of overjoyed cartwheels. I didn’t like him before reading his story. He unconditionally won me over in this book. He turned out not being what I expected. I loved him, he was just as perfect as all the other men in this series. As for Ally? I really liked her. She was just as strong and opinionated as the others, she was a fighter, and I found myself cheering her on all throughout the story.

In the end, I recommend this book to anyone who loves shifter romances, dominant alpha males, or action-packed stories. This was a really enjoyable read, and I’m really looking forward to the next installment in this series!

Aug-2021 Another re-read. After binging PB's Alpha & Omega series, I needed some passion, drama, steam, and got hooked into reading several of these again.

Re-read Oct. 2020
On to the Mercury Pack; I was super pumped when I saw that SW was starting a series with the Phoenix’s neighboring pack. If you want to read in chronological order; Spiral of Need fits in-between, Dark Instincts & Savage Urges. I would strongly recommend reading the Phoenix Pack books first to ensure maximum reading enjoyment. 😉(especially Dark Instincts because part of the story carries over & Carnal Secretsfor Alpha Nick’s story)

We first met Derren WAY back in Feral Sins when he was Nick’s bodyguard. The two were in juvie together, and have been best-bro’s since. Derren is the beta, and receives a call from another juvie contact asking him to retrieve Ally from her current pack, because she’s in danger. Darren has been screwed over BIG TIME by a seer, so he has MAJOR issues/prejudices towards her.

I loved this one, and was instantly sucked in. I liked the seer aspect, and found it an interesting change. I loved Ally; she is super strong, but not bitchy at all. She actually reminded me a smidge of Roni without the wacky tidbits. The couple may have instant attraction, but aren’t instantly together. It takes about 35% for the smut, and twice as long for them to get their shit sorted.
We get several cameo/updates on are fav past couples, and I really liked her crazy foster uncles. They kind of reminded me of the crazy Russian Wolverine uncles we meet throughout the series.

Bottom Line- I dug it; there’re several subplots going on that provided tons of action. I also liked having closure with Roni & Marcus. I REALLY like the concept that their mates pretty much die if they do, so the females aren’t running around doing 🤦‍♀‍ TSTL stuff, which is so refreshing. It’s no secret I’m a big SW fan; she has a way of writing OTT caveman alphas while still empowering her h’s as smart and strong. So far, Shaya is the only one that’s a smidge wimpy with all her crying, but it works because she’s not a doormat either.
